Shipping
2007-07-10 16:23:10
Quite often I sell items that have been donated to Utah Collie Rescue, Inc., and donate the money earned to the rescue. One of the thing that is the biggest problem with this is finding out how much the items weight when they are all packed up. Really I need some good quality Shipping Scales to help me out with this. This web store sells Shipping Scales, and they have a huge variety, from inexpensive ones that I could use to get just the right weight on an item I am selling for collie rescue, to large heavy duty ones that would be great for a business. Their scales also have great warranties, some about 20 years, which really means these scales will last a long time. They have an easy to read layout on their website, and it makes it easy for us customers to find what we are looking for. They have food scales and baby scales and even, most important to us, veterinarian scales. We have a cheap cat scale that we used for Littles when she had Fatty Liver, and it’d be nice to ha

Muffed up my Database
2007-07-09 22:23:08
Well, I’ve been trying to get this blog to validate with the W3C Validation service and in my attempt to do so I accidentally deleted all my sidebar widgets… in the database. I have a ticket in to see if my host can restore it. Until then please be patient and I’m sorry about the mistake! If they can’t restore I’ll have to rebuild it. Ugh.

Drive Leakage
2007-07-09 15:47:45
Had an agility/obedience/drive shaping lesson this morning with Chase at the agility yard. It went really well. It was interesting to see how we was after his run at the fun match a couple of weeks ago. And he did have some drive leakage. In other words, he lost his brain a bit, didn’t think as much or pay attention. Got full of energy and too high and not in control. But it was just a bit, and we were able to get him back more quickly. So instead of going on a Florida vacation anytime soon, I’ll be working with Chase more. And as I start to trial him again, I may only run him once a month or so, so that we can keep that drive under control, and teach him how to run fast and think and listen too. It’s amazing, watching this boy grow. Technorati Tags: collie agility, border collie agility, drive shaping, clicker training, agility, obedience

Excellent Only
2007-07-13 17:00:48
Well today was excellent only in agility. Levi did really well! His Mom, not so good. I tripped him up once on each run, darnit! So no Qs. But it was my fault. And his weaves were gorgeous both runs! I was so happy. We have a house guest and her dogs this weekend so I probably won’t be blogging too much. Time for dinner!

Dog Blog Platforms
2007-07-13 12:21:57
For all the dog blogs I have been looking at lately, I swear hardly any of them are on Wordpress. I love Wordpress. I love that I get and send pingbacks and trackbacks. I love that I can have a whole slew of plugins to customize it, including the comment email responder. I love that the files and database is on my own server. So how come dog people don’t usually use Wordpress? Surely dogs can figure Wordpress out!

4 The Love of Animals - Meme
2007-07-12 16:03:48
Tip Tail’s Animal Review Meme for this week is going to be about 4 The Love of Animals . 4 the Love of Animals 4 The Love of Animals is a website run by a person who lives not only in the same State as me, but in the same valley! I’d say city, but I think she’s in another city but very very close. 4 the Love of Animals is looking for rescue stories, so if you have any cruise on over there and let her know. Aimee shares a love of animals with me. She is a huge supporter of animal rescue, as am I. She even set up a website to help out the animals in need of homes. It is called… Aimee’s Animals Aimee’s Animals is a great website that helps us find rescue groups in our areas. Are you wondering what is around you? Check out Aimee’s Animals and you are sure to find something close to you! Help Promote Rescue 4 The Love of Animals is also willing to help promote websites, stories, and organizations that support rescue. And I do, as well. As you al

Dogs in Los Angeles
2007-07-12 15:54:33
Strangely enough, I’ve been to Los Angeles twice in just over a year. And before that it’d been oh… probably 8 year since I went. I love going there, and I really understand why most of the country wants to live there. The weather is so nice all year round. Here it is hot hot in the summer, and cold cold in the winter. In Los Angeles , it’s just nice. And I like nice weather anymore. I want to go on vacation there with the dogs, because they have a lot of agility trials there. Not only AKC, either. But other venues. I will have to find Hotels in Los Angeles that allow dogs. I can just imagine myself there already. This would be a good time to go, because it’s just too dang hot now to be where I am, here in the desert. When I go to Los Angeles, of course the place I want to go most is the beach. I love the water. I would love to see if they have a dog beach. Do they have a dog beach? I would sooo want to go and get the dogs in the ocean. Chase could s

Left the Flyball Team
2007-07-12 14:13:07
Well, I officially left the Flyball team today, the Utah Tailblazers. Just sent off my resignation email. I just don’t think I really fit there. About half, maybe, but I’m not really liking the rules I’m discovering. They don’t mesh with me. I hope to find another team. I still want to do flyball and Chase really loves it. I hope I haven’t burned any bridges. I was polite and succinct and I don’t want to criticize anyone. It’s just not the place I want to be right now.

Tip Tail’s Web Cam
2007-07-12 08:16:10
The web cam here is temporarily out of service. I cleaned out the spare bedroom that housed the PC that was powering the cam, and took the PC out and made it a real bedroom. So until I get the old laptop set up to power it, it’ll be down. I sure hope I don’t keep forgetting when I’m home, and remembering when I’m at work when I can’t do a thing about it. =D Usually the web cam is live on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during work hours.

Canvas of the Boys
2007-07-16 10:09:35
So check this out! Is this a cute picture of Levi and Chase or what? I thought I’d take a picture of the picture, and also have Levi and Chase in it too. I got this from Canvas on Demand. It’s an 8×10. The photo was too grainy for a bigger image, but that’s okay. I love this picture. It’s from dog camp last September, by Lake Tahoe. And I love how Levi is sitting calmly, and Chase is in motion. So typical of my two boys. Giving one of these canvases for an anniversary gift is a great idea. They take a photo, either printed or digital, and make a canvas for you. This is mine. I love having dog pictures and I’m excited to hang this on the wall with my other dog pictures. This canvas has the image wrapped around the sides of the frame, which adds a nice touch. It’s great quality, and will be with me for the rest of my life. A good way to remember my trip to camp with my boys. We had such a great time. We are even going back this year, and

Weekend is Over
2007-07-15 15:45:14
Whew! Well, the busy agility weekend is over. I’m home very early, too. It is very nice to be home early. Any minute now.. actually I feel it already, I’m going to be dead tired and not want to get my bottom off the couch. Though we are going to check out a flyball club tonight so I’m going to have to get up in a few hours. :p Well good news about agility. While Levi didn’t Q on Friday, he got a standard Q on Saturday, and another standard Q on Sunday. Of course I messed up his jumpers runs on both days. But that’s normal, though not desired! All of his runs were gorgeous. He only missed one weave entry, and he didn’t have one 11th poll pop out. I think having 3 weeks off agility has really helped him a lot. My boy is awesome, and he just doesn’t like doing agility every weekend. But that’s okay! It’s a good thing to know about him. Maybe we’ll have to take some cruises to check out agility in other parts of the world! H

I miss my boy Kip
2007-07-18 20:13:18
Well, I finally battled through the tears and made a tribute page to Kip, my shepherd mix who left this world in April 2000. I still love him, and miss him, and I always will. He left some huge pawprints on my heart, and stood by me in an ever changing, very unhealthy time for me. I hope you will go and read Kip’s page, and maybe send some good wishes and some white light and some love up and away, to wherever he may be now. If time even exists, and if thought even exists, and if light even exists where he is. I don’t know, but I hope he is fulfilled.

Factoring Service
2007-07-18 19:59:22
Doing collie rescue I don’t yet have to pay employees. I wonder if some of the bigger rescues do that. Actually, I think they do, because the rescue I used to work with had an employee at one time that got a stipend. Anyway, using this Factoring Service to help with your accounting can really benefit your company. I like this site because it’s easy to use, and has a great deal of information about their product. It helps out businesses because they will purchase invoices from you, which gives you the money you need, and they can collect on the invoices. It sounds like a great idea, and they have great prices, too.

Lucy and Angel Pages

If you click the pictures, you’ll get a bigger view!

Home Theater
2007-07-18 17:27:00
My dog room downstairs is also the TV room. It’s set up for dogs, and for me to watch TV, and the dogs sit with me on the couch. They don’t watch the TV, well, unless a dog comes on with a particularly loud yap. Anyway, I’m building a home theater in my TV room. I have an HDTV already, and so I’m always looking at HDTVs to compare and learn more about them. I would love to have a home theater to go along with my HDTV. The visual is nice, but the audio would finish it off wonderfully. I like this piece because it would really enhance my TV watching experience. I love movies, aren’t they better than real life? AND I especially love dog movies, and dog agility, and I would love to watch agility on the HDTV with surround sound! Houston furniture has more great items, including electronics and home furniture. I need a dresser to go into my spare bedroom that is no longer a computer room, but is still a dog room. And I’m always looking for fu

Smooth Collie Tattoo
2007-07-18 13:54:51
Well I posted this over on my other blog, but I had to put it here too because it’s dog related. I have a new tattoo on my upper left thigh. I have another tattoo, a sun, on my left ankle. But when someone gave me the idea to have this smooth collie image tattooed, I had to jump on it. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this myself. I didn’t draw this image, the guy over at Smooth Collie s.net did so, and isn’t he talented? I have a sweatshirt and a T-Shirt with the image, too. the tattoo artists put Levi’s name in the image. I love it. It’s high enough to hide at work under skirts, and hopefully low enough to show under shorts. For now I’m careful with it and keeping it clean, dry, and lubricated so it heals. I love it!

Nice and Quiet
2007-07-18 08:24:05
As much as we love Faith, it’s nice to have her gone. The cats will especially be happy because she just wanted to chase them. She was a sweet squiggle butt, always on the go. It’s just so nice to have our regular four again. All of them are mellow and mature. Chase is the youngest at 3.5 years old. Lucy is 8, Levi is 7, and Angel is probably about 10. They like to play, but they also like to snooze and relax. So the house is quiet again. I hope Faith gets a home soon.

Collie Barking
2007-07-20 16:29:43
He he, collies bark, which is no surprise. Levi is my most vocal dog. He is a sweetie with a ton of personality. This is a little video, just under a minute long, of him barking because he wants some dried chicken treats I just put up on the shelf behind the couch. He will do this for hours. Even if we are not home and there is something really good on the fridge, he will bark and bark, saying he wants some! I have seen him do it on the web cam. Goofball, I love my boy.

Where do you hang your leashes?
2007-07-19 21:23:53
Okay.. maybe you don’t hang them, maybe you put them in a drawer. We have a leash hanger by the door, and it is full of leashes and collars. Too many of them! Oh and some toys, too. They clutter up the kitchen and I’m thinking of moving them to the garage. I would love to put them on a metal pegboard and be able to organize them there. I would like some white 16 by 16 inch metal pegboards to organize our leashes and collars with. I really should organize our garage, it’s a mess!

Getting Titles
2007-07-19 20:34:36
Kip had no titles, not even a CGC, and often I wish I would have done so much more with him. He would have had fun doing agility, or obedience, or even flyball. My four current dogs have titles, and Levi has a ton of titles. I hope the number of titles Chase has will grow and grow. Why do I like titles, you ask? Well, I actually didn’t really know myself until I read this article over on the Flyball Blog about titles. And I agree with all my heart. To me, my dogs’ titles are a physical indication of how much time I have spent with my dog. Working, training, bonding, playing, and having fun. The more diverse the titles, the more proud I am that I have given my dogs a happy, healty, active, full life. Obedience, Agility, Herding, Flyball… I am extra proud that Levi is a Versatility Collie. That means the most to me. Because it lets me know that I have spent a lot of time with him doing many diverse things, and he’s good at them too! So just because people like

Collars
2007-07-19 19:36:59
Do your dogs wear collars on a daily basis? If so, what kind? When I was a dumb kid I had Kip in a metal choke all the time. I didn’t know they could be dangerous. When I found that out, when he was probably about 10 or so, I put him in a buckle collar. Angel wears a martingale because she can slip a collar very easy. Lucy wears a really super pretty buckle collar that Jen made.. I need a picture of it. Chase wears his buckle collar from dog camp, and Levi doesn’t usually wear a collar. Because, we’ll, he’s so handsome I hate to give him a collar line. He has one from dog camp, too, though. Lucy and Angel have tags. Chase and Levi don’t, because I do so much agility with them and tags are not allowed that they are not on their collars. What type of collars do your dogs wear?

Holiday Tomorrow
2007-07-23 20:50:01
Yay tomorrow is a holiday here in Utah. The bad thing is that it’s another fireworks holiday. So Chase and Angel have been medicated so they will sleep through tonight, and we’ll do the same for tomorrow night. Lucy and Levi don’t mind the bangs much. The good thing is I get the day off. I’ll be taking Chase and Levi for agility/obedience practice in the morning and see how they are doing. Then the rest of the day I get to be a bum. Yay!

Reptiles
2007-07-23 14:13:21
Well, reptiles are not dogs.. as we all know. However, whenever I get an opportunity to plug another good animal care site I will take it. And many people who have dogs also have other animals, such as reptiles. Personally I love reptiles, and I had a couple of snakes back about… oh, many years ago. Now I just have the mammals, but I’m always interested in learning more about reptiles. I love snakes, and will check out the Ball Python message boards to find more information about them. Reptiles are a responsibility one should not enter into lightly. Research is an important part of keeping any animals. To find out more about reptiles, please visit these message boards, as well as the care sheets, to find out what you need to know about caring for your reptiles.

Flyball Again
2007-07-23 13:53:29
Well, Chase and I have been going and practicing with the Thunder Paws Flyball club here in Utah. And so far, so good. Chase is a great flyball dog, and he’s doing really well. He is fumbling the ball at the box most of the time, though. He really didn’t used to do that at practice. Maybe half the time… now it’s most. But we have some ideas of what to do to get him to catch that darn ball. It can’t be that hard, the ball comes out exactly the same angle every time! Goofball Chase. Anyway, we are having fun. We are hoping to go to the U-FLI tournament in Longmont, Nevada, the last week of October. If we do that, I’m probably going to get in the 3 day agility trial the very next weekend in October, and bring both Levi and Chase down. If I’m there it’d seem a waste not to go. My boss tells me if I can find internet connection, I can even work from there. Woot!

Environmental Health
2007-07-23 09:54:32
I like to think of myself as an environmentalist… I recycle, I do what I can to reduce my impact on the earth. I do think most individuals do the same things, now. We can’t deny the information we see everywhere, the TV, newspapers, and even in the break room around the water cooler, that our planet is in danger if we don’t stop polluting. And I consider my dogs very close to nature, more so than humans, and so I try to put myself closer to nature as well. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, and the great lakes are still close to my heart. And so when I see that there might be a company polluting one of the great lakes, Lake Michigan, my interest is peaked. There is a debate going on about a BP Factory in Whiting, Indiana, that has received permission from the government to discharge more ammonia and sludge into Lake Michigan. This Chicago Tribune Article give more detailed information about what is going on. I’ll not repeat it here, as the article is informativ
