Nokia raises market share forecast, shares jump 2007-05-15 11:35:13 PARIS/HELSINKI — — Nokia
[NOK-N], the world’s top mobile handset maker, lifted its market share outlook for the second quarter on Monday, saying it expected to have more than 36 per cent of the global cellphone market. The Finnish firm is benefiting from growing demand in emerging markets, like China and India, where it has a strong position.
Shares in Nokia were up 4.6 per cent at 19.26 euros at 1:19 p.m. GMT. It had earlier forecast that market share would remain at the 36 per cent level.
Nokia said in a statement it expected its phone shipments in April-June to be positively impacted as excess device inventory in the market — which held back its market share at the start of the year — had sufficiently cleared.
Nokia’s lead on the global market over closest rival Motorola [MOT-N]grew to its widest in years in the beginning of 2007 as the U.S. firm’s handset prices plunged when it tried to hold market share against competition from Nokia.

Nokia and Sony Ericsson hope to iPhone with the open arms 2007-05-17 18:22:20 Mats Lindoff, of SonyEricsson
, and Rick Simonson, of Nokia
, seems to be very safe of their position of leader in the market of the movable telephony, but the recent announcement of Apple with his iPhone
has turned east market a time bomb, a pump that could explode to him in the hands of Steve Jobs, or to crack the present panorama and leadership of both companies.
On the one hand, Mats Lindoff, CTO of Sony Ericsson
, say that the company is not worried about imminent iPhone, simply because his Walkman devices already well they are positioned in the market, in addition… offer 3G, contrary to iPhone of Apple that in principle would not have 3G.
By another one, Rick Simonson, of Nokia, says that the opening of iPhone will lead back the market of the moving bodies made the concept of devices multimedia, something in which Nokia does not have anything to envy to others and it even has great lessons that to give. Nevertheless, the final decision is into the hands of the public.

High-end smartphones such as the Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson W950i Walkman are becoming increasingly popular. Some 15.9 million Symbian -powered mobiles were shipped in the first 3 months of this year.
The latest figures from Symbian represent a 35.9 per cent increase on the number recorded for the same quarter last year. The increasing dominance of the Symbian smartphone platform demonstrates the difficulty facing Microsoft ’s Windows Mobile platform and the soon-to-launch Apple iPhone . Making headway into the lucrative high-end smartphone market is not an easy task.
Since the Symbian platform launched in 2000, over 126 million Symbian smartphones have been sold. There are now 114 Symbian mobile models on the market - 73 per cent up on a year ago. Nokia has led the way for Symbian with numerous popular S60 handset including recently the N73 and
