Helio Ocean Review - LaptopMag 2007-06-05 06:09:44 HelioOcean
Review - LaptopMag, “The 5.6-ounce, 0.9-inch thick Ocean isn’t exactly supermodel thin, but we dig the soft-touch finish and oval design. Sliding up the brilliant 2.4-inch display in landscape mode reveals a slightly cramped but perfectly usable QWERTY keyboard. The layout seemed a bit too wide at first, but we were typing quickly in no time. Sliding the screen up when you hold the phone vertically reveals a traditional dialpad, making the Ocean more comfortable for use when making calls than the Sidekick. Too bad the dialpad is so big and slippery; we constantly entered the wrong digits.”

LameXP 2.01 2007-06-04 10:29:04 LameXP is a graphical front-end for the LAME MP3 and OggEnc Vorbis encoders. The GUI accepts Wave Audio files for input, allows batch processing and supports ID3-Tags. All encoder binaries used here have been kindly provided by Rarewares.org.
LAME gives you the best possible quality/compression, provides lots of function and works very fast. The original LAME mp3-encoder is aviable from the official homepage (www.mp3dev.org), but it´s only avaible as a console-application. Such console-applications are very flexible, but most users prefer to work with GUI (graphical user interface) applications.
LameXP is a GUI for the LAME mp3-encoder, that makes it much more comfortable to use LAME. Using LameXP is very easy, because the user-interface has been desingned as simple as possible and it uses the new WindowsXP* style.

Nokia 8600 Luna Press Release 2007-06-03 17:49:52 Nokia
8600 Luna, Building upon a tradition of crafting its most unique and prestigious phones from trend-setting materials like chrome, stainless steel and titanium, Nokia today unveiled the Nokia 8600 Luna, which has been precision engineered from the same material that has inspired both artists and craftsmen for centuries- glass.
The melding of nearly opaque smoked glass with unique, soft-touch stainless steel makes the Nokia 8600 Luna as enchanting to behold as it is a joy to touch. Adding to its mysterious allure, a gentle keypad illumination pulsates from beneath the glass case while the phone awaits a call. Combined with the warmth of its glass and stainless steel body, this “heartbeat” transforms the Nokia 8600 Luna from an inanimate object into a trusted companion with an organic, virtually alive form. When a call does beckon, the signature slide movement is carefully balanced to smoothly raise the ergonomic keypad from within its glass cocoon.

Sony Cybershot DSC W55 Review at Unbeatable 2007-06-03 17:43:11 SonyCybershot
DSC W55 Review at Unbeatable, “The DSC-W55 has 7 mega pixels, 3x optical zoom, a 2.5 inch LCD screen and a viewfinder, which is very rare to find on a digital camera these days, but is very welcome on a bright, sunny day when it is hard to see the LCD screen properly. There is a smart zoom feature which increases the capacity of the zoom when shooting at lower resolutions. A small selection of built-in scene modes have been included and two image resolutions are available, one for taking 6×4″ photos and the other for displaying images on a widescreen TV.”

SP-550 Review at ImagingResource
, “The SP-550 also has a flexible, high-speed sequential shooting mode, which allows bursts at rates from 1.2 frames-per-second for 7 frames at full resolution, to as rapid as 15 frames-per-second for 20 frames at 1.2 megapixels. A separate mode uses a “Pre-Capture” feature that starts capturing shots the moment focus is locked, storing five frames just before the shutter release is fully depressed, compensating somewhat for user response time and shutter lag.”

Photo quality was about what you’d expect from a VGA camera, which is to say not great. Colors looked washed out and images were blurry.”

Latte Boom Music Phone Review 2007-06-08 06:12:46 Latte
Boom Music
Phone, “The interface is simple, but pretty enough, navigable by the click-rocker. The screen is tiny, just over 1.5-inches diagonally, and poor, with an obviously low resolution and blocky text. The phone’s USB port triples as a headphone port and charger port, like Samsung’s proprietary port, though we always prefer a real 3.5mm jack on music phones. Thankfully, Latte has included an adapter for 3.5mm headphones. ”

.co.uk, “With the lens zoomed right in the photos are not pin sharp, but it is still a good effort. There is a small amount of purple fringing showing in the photo. This is less than with many other super zoom cameras I have tested. Another familiar problem shows a reduction in the colour of the sky, with the blue taking on a greyer colour. One thing I really like about this picture is the way the DMC TZ3 handles the lighting.”

D40x Review at DCResource, “The original D40 brought ease-of-use and a comfortable compact body to the D-SLR world, and it was a welcome development. It offered a solid design, great photo quality, a very user-friendly menu system, and the kind of performance that you’d expect from a digital SLR. Naturally, some features were “stripped” to keep the price down, most notably the lack of a built-in focus motor, which meant that older lenses were manual focus only. Still, the pros outnumbered the cons, and the D40 earned an easy recommendation.”

Review, “According to the spec sheet, the S50c has a flash range, at wide angle, of 1 foot to 19 feet, 8 inches. At telephoto, this range is 1 foot to 13 feet, 1 inch. These numbers also are with ISO set to Auto. I believe that 19 feet is a little optimistic, but my test shots at about 12 feet were illuminated sufficiently, although an increase ISO introduced a decent amount of graininess. Id give it a few more feet, but after that youll notice the illumination drop off. And by the way, you can always try out Nikons D-Lighting feature to lighten up the dark areas after you capture a shot.”

-T100 Review at Trusted Reviews, “The resolution and zoom power of the T100 put into the top bracket of performance compacts, alongside cameras such as the Casio EX-V7 that I reviewed last week, or the Ricoh Caplio R6 and Panasonic Lumix TZ2. It is an expensive camera compared to these models though, currently retailing at around £240. Considering that it doesn’t have any of the manual exposure options of these competing models that’s a lot of money for a point-and-shoot compact. It does have some interesting features though, including a Carl Zeiss branded lens, 3200 ISO maximum sensitivity, Sony’s Super Steady Shot CCD-shift anti-shake mechanism and DRO (Dynamic Range Optimiser) exposure adjustment system as seen in the Alpha A100 DSLR, and the ability to output images in 1080 HD format for display on high-definition televisions.
