If you’re into second life (we’re not, we’d love to be but we know that we’d just get sucked in and addicted and lose hours or days, or months, of productive time) then you know what an avatar is. It’s a little graphic that people use on websites to represent themselves. It’s a picture that isn’t really a picture, just a cartoon if you like.
Well we mention that because yahoo use avatars for many of their services. So instead of using a photo of yourself, or just having a blank where there would be a photo, you can customize your own avatar. Neat eh? Then you can have one that’s all yours to represent yourself on Yahoo without using a photo of yourself, which many people are reluctant to do.
So what do avatars have to do with plus size clothing, or any other plus size issues, we hear you ask?

ever heard of Charming Shoppes? No? Well next time you head on over to, say, Lane Bryant or Catherines have a look at the address in the address bar of your browser. You’ll see Charming Shoppes there. The Lane Bryant address for example isn’t lanebryant.com, it’s lanebrant.charmingshoppes.com.
You see Charming Shoppes owns Lane Bryant, and Catherines. Both plus size online clothing stores. And Charming Shoppes is a serious business. According to DM News Charming Shoppes are now the leading online retailer of plus size clothes in the US with revenues predicted to reach over $2 billion. That’s a serious business. Like we say, the plus size market is a pretty big one, they have to take us seriously.

Did Anyone Know That Old Navy Is Destocking It’s Plus Size Clothes? 2007-05-09 05:06:34
Apparently Old Navy
is pulling it’s line of plus size clothes. Theyr’e heading on to their store on the internet. No more will you be able to walk into an Old Navy store and browse around their plus size clothes.
Old Navy is a store owned by Gap inc (which owns a whole lot of other stuff too). They started in California and have had up to 900 stores, so they’re a pretty major enterprise. We wonder how they decided that it was a good business decision to destock clothes that a huge percentage of American women buy.
Maybe they weren’t selling well. Well if that’s the case they’d better look at themselves first, because plus size clothes sell extremely well. They should, it’s estimated that around 40% or more of the US market wear size 14 or bigger.
So if they weren’t selling well then maybe it’s something they did wrong, like fail to market them properly.

I’ve just been reading the website “overcoming overeating.” There’s some interesting stuff there. Here’s the headline: “What do you think would happen if women stopped hating their bodies?”
Interesting isn’t it. Does that describe you? Do you hate your body? Are you on a constant diet to try and lose weight because you hate your body?
We certainly aren’t saying that it’s a bad thing to diet, there’s lots of good reasons to lose weight if you’re above, what shall we call it, the optimum weight for you. Lots of good health reasons.
But if you’re a plus size woman then hating your body isn’t going to do you much good at all. love your body, then you can do something about making sure you take as much care of it as you can. Love yourself and your body, that’s a much better recipe for health than if you hate your body (and yourself).
