Move over Squirrel! Llamas are now in da house…
2007-05-11 15:06:30
Llama Llama duck&hellip ;…..la la la I think I like it better than my all-time internet favorite Gonads and Strife. So while I’m on the subject of internet videos, I’ll share a few of my other favorites. Pets and Their Licking Problems Let’s start with Charles. He has a licking problem The above video inspired Chaco and his foot fetish problem. Chester must be Charles’ brother. He has a thing for drugs. On second thought, I think Charles’ licking problem is the least of his worries…… This whole thing Charles and his licking problem has spawned a lot of parodies on YouTube.com. I wonder if this, or something like it will be the next internet meme, like All Your Base Are Belong to Us. Last, but not least, I present one more pet. The Guinea Pig. Let us live the Piggy Way. On to Something Else This is just plain weird. Weird enough, that I remember it from years ago, when I first heard it. I present to you, dear reader: Hatt Baby.

Knit Spotting
2007-05-10 17:50:27
So, I’m sitting on the bus this morning….snoozing as usual. This lady sits next to me, and lo and behold, she’s a new knitter. What fun we had talking about our projects and techniques. I didn’t get her name, unfortunately, but the lady said she learned to knit from another lady on the bus. So there’s more than two of us…..Sure hope I meet her. I wouldn’t mind having a knitting group on the bus like the one I read about in one of my knitting magazines recently. It would be better time spent than sleeping, that’s for sure….well, maybe. Apparently, the knitting-while-commuting philosophy is more popular than I thought.

Elann Never Disappoints
2007-05-09 16:40:07
Wow, I want to make this so badly…..but I must finish the shapely tank first. I swear, Elann *never* disappoints. Free pattern - Lara Pinwheel Sweater I made the Flower Petal shawl, and it’s one of my most favored knitted items. Check it out. The pattern called for a DK weight yarn, but I used a cheap, but beautifully colored accrylic worsted weight, and it still turned out beautiful. And yes, yes, I will post a picture when I get a camera.

I Doubt I’ll be Missed
2007-05-07 16:57:26
I decided not to go and see the Queen today. Why? Well, most of my team hasn’t shown up yet, and I’d like to keep watch in case something needs to get posted. It would be terrible if nobody was here to do that. Not only that, but I’m freezing. I’m wearing a fluffy, mohair shawl, but I wish I had worn socks as well. I just can’t seem to warm up, even with downing cup after cup of hot coffee. So, I apologize, Your Majesty, but I just wasn’t up to it today. Anyway, let’s rewind a little…. I had a rather lovely weekend. Mac suggested we take the boys out for lunch yesterday. We discussed plans for going on vacation this summer….something I haven’t had in many years. We’re considering having a three day weekend in Colonial Williamsburg. I don’t want to jinx it by looking forward to it too much. Ahhh, now I know I’ve put the knitting down lately, but I got back on track yesterday. I started shaping th

I might be on the TV this Monday. I’m going to meet the Queen of England! No lie…just found out. I must call my Mom tonight to learn the proper ettiquette. I guess I’m supposed to curtsy?

I Know This is Wrong….

but it’s so funny and therefore feels so right! I just read an article on yahoo news about a popular news column called “¡Ask a Mexican!.” Of course I had to investigate. Now this gabacho is hooked. Yahoo Article: Confused by your neighbors? Then ask a Mexican! Excerpt: [¡Ask a Mexican!] The brainchild of a Mexican-American reporter, Gustavo Arellano, and his editor at the OC Weekly in Orange County, southern California, the column started out as a prank in 2004. Since then it has become a sleeper hit read by more than a million people from California to New York each week. It has also spun off live radio appearances for Arellano, and is to be published as a book in May by Scribner. I’d love to say that I’m feeling rather educated now, but right now, I’m just laughing too hard.

Finding Yarn at the SOMD Celtic Festival
2007-05-01 18:25:45
Wow, I had a really busy weekend. It all started on Friday night when Mac and I had Lindy over for a craft night. She didn’t work on anything (which kind of bums me out), but I finished a new necklace. It’s made of pearlized pony beads and silver cording. Yes, I know that it’s not made of premium materials, but it’s quite lovely and sparkly. Anyway, Mac started a new necklace for Lindy, but he plans on restarting it. I really like his combination of yellow and orange hemp. It makes a sweet butterscotch color when blended into knots. Saturday! Saturday we went to the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival . We all had such a wonderful time, but what about knitting??? Well, as usual, the Celtic Fesitval never dissapoints. I went over to the spinning and weaving tent and and I was close to drooling when I saw all the ladies spinning baby alpaca hair into a beautiful, fine sock yarn. I did not buy any though. I’m already feeling guilty over the size of

Mac just completed two necklaces today. Both are done in hemp and single spiral. He made one for Jeremy today, which pleases me more than I can express. Pictures coming soon of our creations…..

Tassel Bracelet
2007-04-25 15:20:48
I started a new project last night….I shouldn’t, I know. I always feel guilty if I have what I feel to be too many irons in the fire. But I let that go rather quickly since the project is rather small, portable, and easily worked on with just a few minutes per night. Anyway, the design is based off of an old, tarnished wire bangle. Using a size E crochet hook, black thread and beads, I’m triple crocheting around, adding beads as I go along, giving it a slight tasseled look. It may turn out to be rather ugly….I don’t know, since I’m making it up as I go along. If it turns out to be pretty, I’ll be sure to post the photo and the pattern. Love y’all. music: none

Knit Storm
2007-04-24 21:48:38
I’m still working on the shapely tank (err….t-shirt).  I’ve been tempted to use some novelty trellis yarn to make a summery scarf though.  Usually, I’m not a big fan of the novelty stuff, but this one slid under the radar. Still have to complete my “weekend sweater” as well.  I’m a little bummed since PeeWee spilled coffee on part of it.  I think that’s thrown me off my game a little.  Ahh yess, but it’s a weekend sweater…..not supposed to be glamourous. Yesterday I was knitting up a storm on the commute home.  I was in the zone….that is until the bus broke down.  I just packed up my project and began again on the new bus.  That reminds me….I’m on row 6 of set 4. I still haven’t met up with those ladies yet….must do that. music:  Dave Matthews Band - Grey Street

Why I Love Short Row Shaping
2007-05-16 18:58:57
I’m so in love with short row shaping. Because: It gives garments a more defined contour as opposed to a regular tube. Short row shaping is especially helpful for sweaters designed around a generous bust line. It’s easy. It saves on yarn. It sets the garment apart from mass-produced garments since it has a more customized fit. For an easy project, you can try the Shapely Tank Top from White Lies Designs. (You must be sick to death of hearing about this pattern, but I truly believe it to be a knitters must-have and it’s free!) The pattern is pretty straight forward, covers short row shaping, and is even perfect for the novice knitter.

I want….
2007-05-15 15:46:07
I want to sit out on my back deck in the sunshine and tasting the breeze. I want to finish that book (Inkspell) I started months ago. I want to knit while on that back deck. Perhaps I’d fall asleep in that lounge chair. I want to take pictures with my new digital camera. I want that digital camera to come in. I want to be home right now watching Stargate SG-1 with Mac.

Switch Knot
2007-05-14 18:11:59
I learned a new knotting technique over the weekend. It’s called the ‘Switch Knot’ and boy oh boy does it save on the amount of hemp used for projects, as well as looking very attractive. Hemp Masters: Ancient Hippie Secrets for Knotting Hip Hemp Jewelry (by Max Lunger) has turned out to be quite a treasure, as it offers a lot of practical advice on correcting and avoiding mistakes and having lots of new knotting techniques as well. So, on Saturday night, I put the new technique into practice, and started a new project using navy Blue hemp paired with navy blue and aqua pearlized pony beads. I’m 90% done with it. I love immediate gratification projects. They seem to keep me going with my more complex delayed gratification projects (like my Shapely Tank Top that I still need to finish up). Pictures…..ahh, still no pictures, but Mac got me a digital camera for Mother’s Day. It’s just not here yet. I think it’s due by Friday and I

Morbid Curiosities
2007-05-18 17:35:57
As you may know, I’ve been on the lookout for an “instant gratification” project. Well, I think I’ve found one. Let me start of, though, to state that I’m usually not a big fan of stuffed animals (however, I am a fan of real animals). Anyway, stuffed animals have to be pretty funny, pretty cute, or pretty morbid, or a combination of the above for me to even waste my time. I found this little gem this morning……an Amigurumi snail. So, why this one??? And, what’s so morbid about it? Well, I don’t want my snail to look exactly like the one pictured….no, my snail is going to be…………..different, shall we say. You see, it all comes from a story from when I was a little girl. My sister was entrusted to care for a goldfish while her friend was on vacation. The goldfish’s bowl also had a resident snail. I suppose that the snail’s job was to keep the bowl clean. Several days later, I g

Still in Shock
2007-05-22 13:14:06
So, what have I been up to? Well, I’m still blown away by Saturday’s news. It’s all still so new to me, and I guess I’m still in a bit of shock. It changes everything. Everything. Lest you think this a complaint, please don’t. I’m not complaining, just planning. However, to be honest, I’m not exactly relishing the thought of going through labor or the sleepless nights, and all of the maladys that accompany pregnancy. How can I possibly put into words the myriad of feelings that I’m experiencing? I suppose that I can’t. I’m feeling great though, and I have a new and VERY good reason to quit smoking (not that any of the other reasons weren’t good enough, it’s just different when it has to do with the life of your child). I wanted to work on the new blanket I started over the weekend, but felt too tired. Perhaps I’ll cover a lot of ground later this week if I’m up to it. I know I’ll get a

Baby Patterns
2007-05-21 10:03:00
I guess that I will have to put some of my current projects aside and start knitting up baby things instead. Because…..I’m pregnant. It looks like I’m due in February, so I started a new blanket over the weekend. This pattern comes from Knitting on the Net. Mac and I are shooting for Valentine’s Day, so hence the heart-themed blanket. Easy Heart Baby Blanket However, I will be doing my version up in Caron Simply Soft Autumn Red, and I chose larger needles for more drape. I know that I will have to adjust the pattern accordingly, but since it’s a blanket, that won’t be difficult at all. So far, I feel great. Quitting smoking is tough though.

Weekend Roundup
2007-05-25 15:17:40
I must say that Saturday’s BIG news overshadows most of what I’ve covered this week. Yesterday, I covered “Knit in Public Day” and Ravelry’s Knit and Crochet Community. As for knitting, I have not given up on the Shapely Tank, but the Easy Heart Baby Blanket has taken some precedence.

New Knit and Crochet Community
2007-05-24 11:20:00
Here’s something that I came across today. It’s a knitting/crochet community called Ravelry. Right now, the site is in Beta, and not open for public use, but it looks like you can keep track of your stash, projects, notions, and books. I look forward to the site going live and I signed up for the notification. What I hope they have are project tracking widgets. That’d be great. If you wish to sign up, you can go here: http://www.ravelry.com. Also, don’t forget that June 9th is ‘Knit in Public’ day..(??? huh???) Even as a devout knitter, I do not understand why a day was devoted to this. I knit in public all the time. Is this a day when knitters across the world are supposed to come out of our stash closets, waving our needles around, while chanting in the streets “YES, WE’RE HERE, WE KNIT, SO GET OVER IT.” Ugh…ok. I think it would be much more interesting if it were “Shave a Sheep” day…..or &ldquo

Memorial Day Weekend
2007-05-31 12:20:28
I haven’t been up to a whole lot lately. Just making it to work with all this nausea has been my biggest accomplishment. We didn’t do a whole lot of Memorial Day weekend…just had some family over and I worked on the baby blanket. I think that had to be the best part of the weekend. We were all in the living room, talking, watching TV, just hanging out as a family. My biggest struggle right now is nausea. Nausea and mood swings. My sweet Mac has been such a help to me though. I must go cry now. lol

Unlikely Nausea Cure
2007-06-04 11:25:27
This morning was the worst one yet. On the way to the bus, I was almost overcome with nausea. I really thought that I was either going to have to pull over, or barf in a bag in the parking lot of the bus stop. Fortunately, I did not have to do either. It took me well over an hour to “talk” my stomach down from that virtual barfing ledge. Falling asleep helped…..sleep always helps. I suppose I should have eaten more this morning. I had a cup of coffee and a Dannon Yogurt Smoothie. I started feeling a little better once I arrived at work, but the nausea crept up on me again. Ginger ale and Elf crackers didn’t seem to help me, but made me feel a little worse. I think I have found a small comfort, or cure, or whatever you’d like to call it. A frothy, icey-cold, milk-laden coffee seems to really do wonders. One sip seems to fix me up for at least an hour or two and almost instantly at that. Ok, I didn’t have to get the crushed up Oreos, or the
