AUSTRALIAN Rugby Union bosses have scuttled Test coach John Connolly’s masterplan to resurrect Matt Burke
as a World Cup Wallaby.
The ARU board met on Friday and decided to stand firm on a long-standing edict that Wallaby selectors must only choose players from the four Super 14 franchises.
"We don’t feel at this stage the policy needs changing," new ARU chairman Peter McGrath told

DERICK Hougaard was the hero as the Northern Bulls set up South Africa’s first Super
final, defeating defending champion Canterbury Crusaders 27-12 today (AEST).
The fly-half kicked all the points, with eight penalties and a field goal, to earn the Bulls a Super 14 showdown with the Coastal Sharks, 34-18 winner over the Auckland Blues, in Durban next Saturday.

AUSTRALIA discard Peter Hewat tried to quit last weekm because he had been criticised by selector Michael O’Connor in a phone conversation with champion centre Lote Tuqiri that was overheard by teammates.

can reveal that Tuqiri rang O’Connor when the Waratahs were out drinking last Sunday and had his mobile on loudspeaker.

THE Coastal Sharks
scored 20 unanswered points in the final quarter to romp to a 34-18 Super 14 semi-final win over the Auckland Blues today (AEST).
In next Saturday’s final, the Sharks will host the Northern Bulls, which upset title holder Canterbury Crusaders 27-12 in Pretoria.
Dick Muir’s Sharks took a 14-3 lead after 35 minutes, but 13 minutes after the restart the Blues had fought their way back to lead 18-14.

THE Super 14 final will be an all-South Africa affair.
In today’s (AEST) semi-finals, the Sharks
beat the Auckland Blues 34-18 in Durban, while the Northern Bulls upset title holder the Canterbury Crusaders 27-12 in Pretoria.
