Search Engine Marketing - Dying?
2007-05-09 19:43:26
by: Manoj Jasra Search Marketing is dying and everyone who is a Search Marketer knows it. OK let me rephrase that, search ENGINE marketing is dying. Google is making it too hard for most new and even a few established websites to get noticed. Let’s face it, after spending thousands of dollars on a website, does a site owner really have the budget to hire an SEM firm to help them get decent Google placement, or the patience to wait the months it takes? How To Use Digg
2007-05-09 15:54:13
Great Post Written by GrayWolf For anyone who’s looking at the social bookmarking space the one of the websites getting a lot of attention and shouldn’t be ignored it’s Digg . In Part I I’m going to go over some of the basics to help you get started with Digg. Sign Up Signup is pretty straight forward username, password, captcha and a verification email. One piece of advice if you are going to be submitting stories/pages from your own website or blog I would try to choose a name that doesn’t immediately make a connection. For example “BlueWidgetJohn” submitting stories from “bluewidgets.com” is frowned upon. During the signup process you are asked to email your friends who you want to let know you are on Digg, I’d skip this step for now, unless you already know people who have been using Digg. I’d also suggest uploading an avatar. Avatars that are brightly colored and distinctive help you build your own brand on Digg. (more…) How to

SEO Research

I have been doing alot of research tonight and I have come across so much out-dated information I thought it would be best I post something about it! Please beware when reading articles about SEO , SEM or even anything for that matter. The internet is such a wealth of knowledge and there is so much out there … it’s very easy to get wrapped up reading, clicking, and browsing around that … you could potentially be reading Old, Out-Dated information just like I was … a few minutes ago. I always try to look for a date on articles or writeups … some have them … some dont. However just be carefull of what you are reading … you might implement something that is two years old and is a waste of your time! Keep Chugging Along! The Number 1 SEO Tip
2007-05-15 14:46:41
By: Jon Rognerud Learn this single SEO secret and how it can get you on the 1st page of Google. Let me ask you a question: What’s the # 1 business killer on the web? The answer is obvious, but many people miss it. The answer is: can’t be found on the first page of Google. I refer to Google alot, since the search engine accounts for approximately 50 percent of search traffic. In February 2007, Google sites garnered 47.5 percent of the U.S. search market, with Yahoo! coming in second place at a distant 28.1 percent, according to comScore. Preparing your SEO strategy around Google makes your plan work for other search engines, as well. Write Away So what’s the number-one tip for search engine ranking? Articles. With articles, even a brand new domain–some call this the “Google sandbox hell”–can get updated into the search index quickly. Many sites are spidered or crawled, but not indexed, a major problem for new sites. Let’s first take a look

Localized Search: A Threat to SEM?
2007-05-19 09:01:54
by Heather Frahm IT LOOKS LIKE 2007 WILL be the year when localized and personalized search really take off. Analysts are forecasting billions of dollars in ad spending growth and new players like BooRah and Oodle are striking lucrative deals and securing funding. From Google to Microsoft to AOL, the big players are also concentrating on developing local and personal search capabilities, pointing to the fact that this is not simply a trend. But what are the implications for online marketers? Organizations have finally started getting a handle on search engine marketing — only to have it change on them. The fact is, localized and personalized search are a danger to SEM campaigns. Both local and personalized search extend the “what” of typical search to add the “where” and “who.” Geo-location techniques help search engines tailor for local and personalized search. In fact, if you have a Gmail account, you will see personalized and local paid sea

Analytics - Bounce Rate
2007-05-17 08:30:41
Have you ever looked at your site stats and saw the words Bounce Rate with a number and you had no clue what that was for? Well … heres an explination! What does Bounce Rate mean? The bounce rate for your homepage, or any other page on your site which visitors enter, lets you know how many people ‘bounce’ away or leave your site after viewing only one page. So, if your bounce rate on your homepage is 25% (which is relatively low), that means that 25% of your viewers ‘bounce away’ from your homepage. The concept is really designed to notify you of how well your homepage performs. Keep in mind that different types of resources, for example, products, services, or information, will have different bounce rates and usage patterns. How can I improve my bounce rate? As a first step, consider updating your entry pages to lower your bounce rate. Start with your homepage. Think about the old saying that “you only get one chance to make a first impression”. What is Google Page Rank?
2007-05-20 03:49:26
I thought I would write a post to clear the air about Google Page Rank. So many people do not really understand what it is and what it means. So here is my straight foward explanation of Google Page Rank ! ————————————– Google PageRank is an analysis algorithm of links that assigns a numerical weight to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E). PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank[1]) and Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named

Google Trends

In Search Engine Marketing, you need to watch trends closely. If you don’t you may miss out on opportunity! So I use Google Trends a lot! Looks like Google is finally ready to share some up to date info as they have changed their Trends product around a bit today! This change will allow you to actually search and see what was popular on a certain day in the past, as well as give you daily updated information on changes in the “Google” world! Example today I see that “ancestry.com” is very popular today … it’s on the list twice! That tells me people are looking for their Ancestors or interested in their family trees! This can be very valuable information as its grows. You can check to see during a period of time … whats HOT! This could help a Search Marketer through this tough time of Universal Search and learning the new system and tricks! I advise all you Search Marketers out there, Bookmark this site, check it daily and keep ch

Universal Search
2007-05-23 12:28:06
By Kevin Newcomb Last week, Google announced a major change in the way it delivers search results, moving from “siloed” searches for blogs, videos, news and other categories to a “universal search” model, incorporating all of those categories in a single page, ranked against each other for relevance. Many search marketers are trumpeting the move as a win for searchers, with an expectation of increased relevance of search results; and a win for Google, which can finally bring together the various vertical search properties it has been developing separately. “Google Universal provides increased relevance in that it provides a seamless pathway to connect users to a variety of information. It is still in the early roll-out stages, but Google Universal supports the vision that we have been putting forward for some time now, that search is common pathway on which users engage in all new media,” said Jeffrey Pruitt, executive VP at iCrossing. Pay Per Click Management - Part 5
2007-05-28 08:58:40
What does Google Quality Score do for me? I don’t think alot of people know about the Google Quality Score and how it can effect your Pay Per Click Account at Google. If you don’t even know where it is … here is the steps to finding it! Once in your Google Account, click on an Ad Group and look at your keywords. In the Row above your keywords you will see a row that shows: + Add keywords: Quick add | Keyword tool Edit keywords | Search this list Customize columns Click on Customize columns and it will turn into a drop down box and a option in that box should be Show Quality Score … it looks like this: Once you click on this option it will add another column to the Keywords Section of your account showing you, your Google Quality Score! Here is Google’s Explination of the Google Quality Score: Quality Score is the basis for measuring the quality and relevance of your ads and determining your minimum CPC bid for Google and the search network.
