This is not about quaint shops, or strange lanes, or forgotten restaurants. It is about a special section of people - hawkers. And, no, not the hawkers who take up space on the roads and sidewalks and cause traffic jams and hardships to pedestrians. This is about those hawkers who carry their wares in huge baskets on their heads, or on long poles balanced on their shoulders or teeter-tottering loads on the carriers of bicycles. They make the day brighter with their various calls from morning to night.
There's the early morning 'hey bhaji walla' with basket full of fresh vegetables followed by 'tamatar' with cartload of lovely red tomatoes (now that the spoil-sport BMC has taken away his cart he brings them in a box on a cycle!). Behind them comes the 'dus rupya kiiilo kaaanda' (the rate changes each day!).

Ibibo's 1.5 crore Great Blogger Hunt managed to generate a lot of buzz, criticism and very likely, a huge chunk of traffic. However, as suspected, they failed to attract and generate good quality content. Looks like they've decided its time to scrap their contest and change the rules of the game, so that emphasis is placed on the quality of blog posts as well.
They've introduced ibQash, a program where you get rewarded based on which league you end up in. The quality of blogs will be the key factor affecting this decision. To quote from their website:
An independent audit of quality will be conducted, with a premium on originality and relevance. This will be applied to every blog.
Independent audit of quality - does it mean audit by an independent agency ? This is unclear and seems to be open to distortion and misinterpretation.

Kirby Ann Basken: Mutya ng Pilipinas 2006, Now Miss Norway 2007
Last year's Mutya ng Pilipinas winner, Kirby Ann Basken, represented our country in the 2006 Miss Intercontinental and placed in the top 12 semi-finals. Now, she tops the Froken Norge or the Miss Norway contest besting 23 other contestants and will represent Norway in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant. When she was still in the Philippines, she worked as a model and appeared on various tv commercials (like Bingo, Johnson's Baby Cologne and KFC) and tv shows (like ABC 5's Teka Muna with Joey de Leon). Right now, she's taking a qualifying year so that she could enter university and major in Psychology and the Social Sciences. Her dream is to work with children and teenagers with psycho-sociological adjustment problems. During her spare time, she likes to write.
