Walmart to sell more gadgets 2007-05-16 10:09:01 The store that is renown for selling cheap and in bulk are looking to revise their damaged profit margins by selling more gadgets
and electricals, at last someone has seen the light!
For us mere consumers there can be nothing better than a super store price war, they lose and we win, with prices cut to the bone it will be a great time to get over there and pick up some bargains.
So what can we expect to see in the stores, lots of computer peripherals like skype phones etc, web cams and printers, but it will be probably be a great opportunity to pick up a bargain in the HDTV market, digital cameras and video cameras too.
If this pays off, Walmart
can actually revise their current position and sink a few competitors at the same time, so they are playing a serious game now.

DIY HACK - Wireless Keyless Entry using Relays 2007-05-16 09:00:35

Here’s a very simple wireless keyless entry DIY using some relays and stuff, very similar to the Wiimote Door Unlocker.
The mechanism is simple enough, just a momentary button on the panel in my apartment, but the mess of wires in the wall is a little unsettling. I took some meter readings of the terminals and sorted out the door button wiring. You can see where the door button is soldered through the PCB, which made it easier to identify the proper terminals. This panel has a “Door”, “Talk” and “Listen” button. The “Door” button is normally-open and the circuit is about 22V. In the following steps we’re going to effectively bypass the button with our own circuit.

Cufflinks that show your emotion 2007-05-15 14:43:51 You could say that these are cufflinks for geeks, but do geeks actually use cufflinks? Or rather would they even have a shirt that requires cufflinks? Maybe I am being just a little bit harsh there, no hard feelings.
Any how for everyone who has those little holes in the cuffs of their shirts, cannot find any buttons to do them up with and know about emotions, well these cuff links from Sweet Tooth Designs, are made just for you, there are over sixteen emotions to choose from, each with their own little message to tell your work colleagues how you are feeling, of course you can always wear two different cuff links and really confuse people.
They are made from hand finished sterling silver and will cost around $110 per pair.

It’s a chair but not as we know it 2007-05-15 13:25:46 At first glance this contraption looks slightly rude, in what way I am not completely sure, but having read about the Solar System Chair it appears to be the cutting edge design for furniture, even though it does look somewhat uncomfortable.
The solar system part of this chair has nothing to do with technology of gadgetry but in fact if you study it closer, the red balls represent the planets rotating around the sun, I think!
Whatever the design purpose it is certainly eye catchingly brilliant, made from bright stainless steel tubing, and the red balls, which act as cushioning, it is defiantly a cool design, but somehow I don’t think that I would like to be sitting on that all day long.
At a price of only £99 ($200) it does appear to be good value.

Cool, we are looking forward to Maker Faire for cool steam tanks like this!
So what do you do after you’ve made a bunch of steam powered r/c tanks? Well you try making a steam turbine tank of course! Making a steam turbine r/c machine has sort of been one of my Holy Grails, but there are many issues with steam turbines, that made it difficult for me to tackle on the project.

New type of camera tripod 2007-05-15 12:48:46 Tripods for cameras are great unfortunately even though they three legs, hence the tri, they can sometimes be a bit unstable and either topple over or in some cases it may just move slightly because of the uneven surface that it is placed on.
But never fear there is always help at hand, and this time it comes in the form of the All Terrain Tripod from red envelope, this unique design means that the legs of the tripod can be twisted around the anything suitable to give you’re camera the right height and a secure footing, no more watching your expensive camera falling to the ground as it takes photos of you running towards it.
Prices for the stand start at around $25 rising to $45 depending on the size.

Shredding documents is safe right? 2007-05-14 22:40:05 Unfortunately if you believe the claims of some German research studies, they believe that they have developed a program that can actually fix, shredded documents, oh yes that is what they are claiming.
Basically the software can put together the text that from the original documents, to most of us it is a frightening prospect, however if we look at it from another point of view, when there are investigations into crime or governments that are overthrown, it would appear that shredding all those files would be enough. Maybe they will need a large furnace too.

DIY HACK - Supercharged Airplane 2007-05-14 15:54:12
Check out this cool supercharged airplane you can make in your free time!
The single-sheet paper airplanes you made when you were a kid (or perhaps last week in your cubicle) were, well, kid stuff compared to this beefed-up paper craft, which uses an electric motor from an old pager or toy powered by a big electrolytic capacitor. Known as a “Gold Cap” and made by Panasonic, the capacitor charges from a battery pack and then metes out a steady flow of power to keep your propeller whirring for about 10 seconds—just long enough to send the flyer airborne and carry it between 30 and 100 feet.

Sustainable Skyscrapers 2007-05-14 12:49:55
Erin joins our new Blog network site, Keetsa! Blog, which is a new blog about eco-friendly and green. Well, here’s a cool post she wrote about the sustainable skyscrapers, similar to previous post on the Rotating Towers to be built in Dubai. On the side note, can you believe it? I went from hacking gadgets and embedded devices to selling mattresses! Well, I can still keep blogging more and more and that’s one good thing. Our blogs will act as the community building marketing thingee while we try to sell beds online as our main revenue. Speaking of, we might start selling some magnetic bracelets for like 20 bucks. Well, Garrett says it won’t sell but who knows…
Anyways, I really need to pick up the pace here…
Tree Hugger posted about this today, but it is so neat, I felt the need to share it with you guys! Eckhard Gerber, a German architect, wants to build skyscrapers that are completely self sufficient. His proposed design is extremely eco-friend Read more:Sustainable

Carton of Milk, no it’s a radio 2007-05-19 18:00:59 This cute little carton of milk looks all the part of what it should be, but upon closer inspection its true identity is discovered.
It’s a funny idea, but as you look at it, you get the feely that it would look good in the kitchen as a back up radio or just for display.
This seems to be an obsession with designers and companies to create items that look like one thing, but actually turn out to be something completely different, or something that you would not really expect it to be, that is the fun of these types of gadgets.
Though it has to be said about this piece the actual radio is probably not as good as the design of them milk carton itself, well you cannot have everything I suppose.

The little cubes of time 2007-05-19 17:00:37 With some new time pieces, it is hardly surprise that some designers try to come up with something different, something that would stand out in front of a crowd, and that special something that nobody else has designed before, this is a hard concept to follow, but these cube key chain and time pieces do appear to hit the mark.
The cubes are just 20 mm in size, and will display the time when the cord shown is pulled; the time would even be visible in the dark too, which will come in handy on some occasions.
The power comes from two small watch type batteries that are housed in the small tube that you can see attached to the cord.

This grill is a Porker 2007-05-19 15:00:47 For anyone who loves the sun, beer and barbeque on a long summers evening, then this grill will most certainly thing that you are going to want to show off to your friends.
It is so strange that it is a cross between the funny and deadly serious, can you just imagine turning up at a family get together and see thing sitting there with smoke bellowing out of it and the smell of pork hanging around.
This is the sort of thing that meat eaters would love to pull out at the annual vegetarian get together, you can just see the look of distaste and even if there were just veggie burgers cooking away on it, would they eat them, I don’t think so.
You get a massive 418 sq inches of cooking space, virtually enough for whole pig, or at least a small one, the cost of this pigbeque is a massive $1,599 only serious grillers only I think.

How safe are you to drive 2007-05-18 22:00:25 It is so easy to miss-judge when you have had enough to drink and drive
home, but as this is such a serious thing it is good to see a great gadget being brought out, this device will analyze your breath and give you a clear indication as to what your alcohol level is and whether or not you should be driving.
Because everyone’s body is different the guide that is given may not be that accurate, so you may think that just because you have had two drinks that you will be clear, but some drinks are stronger than others and some people can handle the alcohol easier than others can, why take that chance.
BreathKey Features:
* About the size and weight of most keyless car entry remotes.
* The only digital keychain breathalyzer certified by the FDA.
* The only consumer breathalyzer to use a fuel cell alcohol sensor, just
like those used by police departments across the nation.
* Lifetime battery assures years of use, even if breathalyzer is used daily.

Snore Stopper stops SNORING! 2007-05-18 09:18:15
Everytime my girlfriend’s brother Bodin comes over to my apartment and sleeps over, he SNORES! So we’ve outlawed him from sleeping in the same room ever again. But it’s about to change with this cool SnoreStopper
. It will give you a slight electric shock or wave everytime you start snoring. We haven’t tried it yet, but I plan to buy it for Bodin since his birthday is coming soon. By the way, Bodin runs the OnEarthTravel blog, so check that out too and leave some nasty comments about his snoring. Don’t worry, he won’t mind, he’s a very nice guy.
Reduce snoring frequency and volume with natural biofeedback techniques. A simple wrist belt worn while sleeping allows the Snore Stopper’s biosensors to detect snores. The unit then issues a gentle electronic wave of light stimulation onto superficial skin. Rather than waking the snorer, this 5-second impulse merely causes a reflex—either a change in body position or an increase in throat mu
