Keyboard Necklace 2007-05-03 21:41:09
Check out the cool keyboard necklace! This reminds me of the time I made a custom letter necklace for my girlfriend at the Coca Cola store in Las Vegas.
Keyboard Key chokers! I popped all the keys off of two keyboards, washed and sanitized them in a little bit of bleach and detergent, then filed down the backs of the keys and drilled holes in the top. The choker bands were made of crochet thread.
Right now I’m also working on a Pirate one, including a painted “Jolly Roger” key. I think these are so neat and unique, so I wanted to share!

Dell Ubuntu 2007-05-03 03:50:00
Cool, Dell is going to be supporting Ubuntu
! This is a sign that Linux and open source movement are taking over the world soon not to mention the cool open source CMS softwares like Wordpress, Joomla, Pligg, etc…etc… This is a surprise from the company that announced to not ship their products with Linux in the past.
Ever since we heard that Dell would ship computers with Linux pre-installed, we wondered which flavor it would be. It doesn’t really come as a surprise that it will be Ubuntu, which Michael Dell uses it on his home laptop.
The official announcement is expected anytime now, but we got the heads up from Ubuntu contributor Fabián Rodríguez. His post is down (thanks, Digg) but can be seen on Dugg Mirror.

Wind Power from Highways 2007-05-03 02:45:41
Here’s a great concept for re-using the wind generated from cars racing on the highways. Great idea! Save earth and peace!
Average vehicle speeds on the valley highways are approximately 70 mph. Using average annual wind speeds of 10 mph as a baseline, each single wind turbine will produce 9,600KwH of energy, annually (enough to fully power my 700 s.f. apartment). This power production estimate will increase exponentially with an increase in wind turbulence speed. I believe that the wind stream created over the freeways by our primary mode of transportation will create an average annual wind speed well beyond the baseline of 10 mph.

Eco-design - rotating towers that can power itself 2007-05-14 02:54:22
Download latest version of Flash to view video! . Click Here to View in Full Screen Mode
Wow, check out these rotating towers that can power
itself!
While the technical details of the wind-power system are sketchy at best, the architect, David Fisher, claims that the tower could power itself and ten other similar sized buildings. Frankly, the claim seems somewhat outlandish, but even if it produces just it’s own energy, it would be a significant achievement.
Fisher has proposed that towers be built in a new way, basically by stacking platters on a central concrete core. This will allow for two unique and awesome features. First, a wind turbine between every floor (see image above) and, second, rotating floors.

Wow, check out some of these really cool DIY Thumb
Pianos!
Sometimes an instrument you know can become something else altogether. Bob Collier has been constructing his own thumb pianos, adding amplification, effects, self-sampling features, and novel cases involving recycled camera bodies and faux fur. As Bob says, "Sometimes the crudest and roughest looking kalimbas can sound surprisingly good especially with the right context of fx and
amplification"
I find kalimbas beautiful and delicate to begin with. Throw in some faux fur and Korg KAOSS Pad effects, and they take on a whole new life:

DIY USB HACK - Unlocking USB Disk Drives 2007-05-11 22:40:15
Here’s a cool USB disk drive hack that shows you how to bypass the password retries with 1 wire and tips to getting started with cracking the actual password. This shows how vulnerable those USB disk drives are in the hands of smart hackers.
The package seems to be made of black velvet, and there’s a nice keychain hidden in a compartment of the package which you can use to hang the stick around your neck. I’m not so fond of metal on my body, considering I work with electricity a lot, but I can imagine it’s a nice way to carry really valuable data around.
First thing I did is plug the device into my Linux-machine. It showed nothing but a 2MB partition containing a Windows program called PASSWORD.EXE, so no chance of getting it to work easily in a non-Windows environment. So much for cross-platform compatibility… Ok, so let’s boot into Windows.
Under Windows the program was runnable OK. Hmm, seems someone already entered a password for me… a Read more:Unlocking

The audio is encoded as uncompressed WAV files sampled at 44.10 kHz and up to 1411 kb/s, so you have CD quality sound. You won’t get too much on a 2GB Nano, though: The files come in at 618MB per hour on the high quality setting.

Set up your Wi Fi Network 2007-05-16 14:44:33 Do you have dreams of taking over a city? Well maybe you can, we are talking Wi Fi right? Anyway Meraki have developed this cool little set up, where you can buy as many of the little Wi Fi repeater modules as you need, of which each one has a 10/100 auto crossover Ethernet port, this can connect to non Wi Fi compatible hardware.
The little units can be bought in lots of 3, 20 or if you are a master, 100, then all you need to do is put these little guys at specified locations, the range outside is about 750 ft max, possibly even using Google Maps, to show where they are and your done, you will even have the capability to bill other users should you wish, are see the light bulb has just lit up! Talking about light bulbs, slight problem with the units, they need to be powered, so you need to find a suitable place where they can be powered and complete the network too.
Cost is around $50, cheaper if bought in bulk.

Neat little speakers 2007-05-16 12:36:28 This is a great idea for people who travel or who just like a better a sound to their computer, the point with these are that they have a unique on and off switch or rather no switch at all, as you need only tip the whole speaker up and down or over, whatever it is, anyway the unit is powered from the USB port which is a slight inconvenience but the power and connection to the computer has to come from somewhere.
The Boynq Saturn Speaker has a couple of great features, like being magnetically shielded which is supposed to stop the interference of cell phones and other devices, with a 5W RMS full range driver, which is a mere three inches in diameter but will not distort the sound.

The seal that bites 2007-05-16 11:44:26 This cute little baby seal look nice and pink, but boy does it really pack a punch!
But should someone try steal your cell phone or worse, the little seal quickly turns into a non lethal weapon, no you don’t have to hit them on the head with it, oh no, more subtle than that, with a flick of the lid it turns into a tazer which delivers a shock of around 195 volts, which is not deadly, but is sure enough to make the attacker think twice, or three times, but defiantly not a forth.
The problem with things like is that they can cause more trouble than they prevent, but if used in the correct manner it quite literally is a life saver. One other point, when you are looking for that new girl in your life, just be careful about what you say to the one with the little pink baby seal around her neck!
But I will tell you something else that is shocking, the price of $14 for this device.

Microsoft sells a few vista copies of Vista 2007-05-16 11:15:32 It does not seem to have been only a mere 100 days ago since the launch of the famed operating system Vista, and who would have believed that since the 30th January 2007 that they would have sold over 40 million licenses, it works out that nearly 400,000 licenses were sold each day, which in whatever world you live in, is quite simply awesome, how much does it cost again?
