Sony Announces Blu-ray Disc PricingSony announced the pricing for the upcoming Blu-ray disc movies.Sony introduced the Blu-ray Disc Movie Titles for 2006 at the CES 2006 a couple of weeks ago. New Blu-ray disc movie titles will have a wholesale price of $23.45, about 20% higher than that of DVDs. Old movies released on Blu-ray have a wholesale price tag of $17.95. Amazon.com lists the 1987 released movie Chronos as first Blu-ray Disc title. They charge $22.49 for it.A Reuters report mentions that the first Blu-ray discs are to be expected early summer. This would be contracting original comments by Sony at the CES calling for a March release of the first Blu-ray movies. Amazon.com also lists March 14th as release date for Chronos. Sony Introduces RDR-VH95 and RDR-VH85 DVD, HDD and VHS RecorderSony introduces in Japan two new DVD recorders with Hard-drive and VHS tape deck.The Sony RDR-VH95 features a 250GB HDD and the RDR-VH85 a 160GB drive.Both can recorder DVD-RW and DVD-R discs. The new Sony recorders feature two tuners that enable users to record two programs on two media types at the same time.The Sony RDR-VH95 and RDR-VH85 are available now in Japan. Six New Sony BRAVIA HDTVsSony announces six new HD-Ready BRAVIA LCD TVs in Japan.The Sony Bravia V2000 series includes the KDL-3C2v2000 (32"), KDL-40CV2000 (40") and KDL-4C6v2000 (46"), while the S2000 series includes KDL-3C2s2000 (32"), KDL-40CS2000 (40") and KDL-4C6s2000 (46") models.Colors are supposed to be more vivid on the new Sony LCD TVs. New Sony HDD DVD Recorder RDZ-D97A, RDZ-D77A and RDZ-D87Sony announces three new digital recorder in Japan.The Sony RDZ-D97A (photo) and RDZ-D87 feature a 400GB HDD, while the RDZ-D77A comes with a 250GB hard-drive. Mitsubishi Laser TV Coming 2007Mitsubishi will show the first Laser projection TV set end of this week.Instead of white-light mercury lamps a Laser TV uses a red, blue and green laser to generate images. The advantages are bright and deep images on large, thin, lightweight screens.Apparently the first commercial Laser HDTV will go on sale in 2007.Plasma and LCD technology are getting competition from new technology such as S.E.D. and Carbon Nanotube in the near future.Mitsubishi will show a 52 inch Laser TV Mitsubishi laser television on Friday in Huntington Beach, Ca.More details on the NY Times.

Surprise! Japanese Get First Toshiba HD DVD PlayerThe Toshiba HD-XA1 HD DVD player is in stores in Japan and it comes even with HD DVD movies.Initial shipments of the Toshiba HD-AX1, until April 27, will bundle two complimentary HD DVD movie discs, "Resident Evil" and a Japanese film, "Moonlight Jellyfish". The HD DVD experience costs 110.000 Yen (~$932 ) in Japan. The Toshiba HD-AX1 will sell for $799.99 in the United States.Japanese consumers will be the first indicator if HD DVD is able to leverage the first to market bonus. Sony's Blu-ray Disc Player is shipping in July. Microsoft Puts SideShow on Media Center RemoteSmart little color displays are just neat. Microsoft thinks so too. We reported about the Windows Vista SideShow feature for notebooks already. Microsoft plans also to use the concept for new Windows Media Center Remote Controls.Microsoft showed at the Media Center Boot Camp at the Electronic House Expo in Orlando, Florida, that the SideShow thingy can also be implemented on a remote control.One application could be a EPG that is transmitted via wi-fi to the remote and being displayed on the Media Center Remote.More details on CEPro. Carbon Nanotube TV Go Into Test ProductionCNET reports that Applied Nanotech and manufacturer Da Ling agreed to a trial production of Carbon Nanotube TVs.Carbon Nanotube TVs work like CRTs but are as slim as LCD TVs. Applied Nanotech showed a 25 inch Carbon Nanotube TV prototype last September (photo). The image quality is still pretty bad, but maybe it is just a matter of money to make it work right.
