Verizon Wireless today introduced new features for its VZ Navigator service. With time-saving tools like Place Messaging, a new VZ Navigator Web site, and the ability to synchronize searches from the Web site to VZ Navigator-capable phones, customers now have even more help to get where they are going. With Place Messaging, a customer can send directions to others through VZ Navigator’s new Messages option. For example, users making dinner plans can send the restaurant’s location to friends, opening up VZ Navigator on their phone, so they can navigate to the destination, map it and save it to their Favorites folder. The message will automatically be sent as a standard TXT Message to recipients with phones that do not subscribe to VZ Navigator. Nokia Alerts Users to Save Energy

In an effort to encourage consumers to save electricity, Nokia has launched phones with alerts informing users to unplug the charger once the battery is full. Nokia decided to put the alerts into mass markets products first to help maximize the potential energy savings. Mobile phones sounding a beep and displaying an alert - “Battery is full, please unplug the charger” - could save enough electricity to power 85,000 homes annually, Nokia said. The unplug alerts are set to first appear on its 1200, 1208 and 1650 phone models with later handhelds to follow, targeting fast growing markets like India, China and Latin America. The alerts are the latest in a series of energy saving initiatives from Nokia. The phone maker had agreed with other mobile industry companies on measures to reduce energy consumption and pollution as a project in partnership with the European Commission. They call it e-paper, but in reality it is probably neither one nor the other. But whatever it is called, it is most defiantly a next generation display screen. Being flexible it means that there are so many more possibilities for this to be introduced into, something like this if it works as good as they say it will, we can expect to see new ideas for computing and communications. The brilliant people in the labs of LG Philips in South Korea have been working on this for some time, in fact the concept is not entirely new, we have seen various other electrical manufacturers come up with the same idea, but not on this scale.
