– So whats all the fuss about? Its actually quite an exciting development, and, I suspect will have some impacts on the ways in which online retailers operate..My Theory – which please remember is just a complete theory.. If integrated with Froogle, it would essentially become possible for Google to become a complete shopping portal, where customers search for a product they want, identify the cheapest available, then the chosen retailer, simply fulfils the order once paid via Google checkout – essentially completely removing the customer from the retailers website.. Retailers simply compete on price, driving traffic through adwords or Froogle and fulfilling orders are the cheapest possible price..Just a theory, but wouldn’t be too surprised it happened in the not too distant future. In the shorter term however, what does this mean for advertisers using Google to drive traffic? The main thing I can see is that the prominence of any links with the Google Checkout

Page Rank 10 - is it ever achievable? 2007-04-24 20:38:00 I have been pondering this one for a while..... Is a Page Rank
of 10 ever actually do-able? I personally have never seen a page with a PR of 10.. Although there are a number of sites out there trying to achieve this prestigious position.. just check out http://www.pagerank10.co.uk/Google rank pages, based on a number of factors and then assigns a page rank (mostly down to the recripocal links to/from your site) This then goes towards your ranking in natural listings..Cleverly Google also takes into the consideration the PR of the sites linking to you..This link to Wikipedia explains the theory behind PR in some more detail..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRankAs a bit of a test I will be putting code on all of my sites (This one included) and will be monitoring the page ranks over time.. My intention is to try different methods of increasing page rank on each. I will keep everyone updated as to my progress, and what actually woks and what doesn't..Please let me know if you have any f
The Power of Viral - Threshers... 2007-05-09 20:56:00 Its been a while since the Threshers Viral
campaign, although I thought it was worth highlighting as it seems to have been such a successful campaign.According to Threshers the campaign was never meant to be communicated to anymore than suppliers and their close friends/family. However, the offer quickly spread all over the internet via a myriad of blogs and e-mails.Before long Threshers were inundated with shoppers taking advantage of the 40% off voucher..Although Threshers do say this was completely unintentional, it really does highlight the power of viral marketing, and shows that s good offer can be spread quickly and cheaply all over the internet with near £0 marketing spend. As well as being a particularly cheap campaign to deliver, Threshers have also benefited by collected a vast amount of customer data. On every coupon the customer is required to complete their details – with the success of the campaign I can only assuming that thousands these vouchers were completed – wh

Farley Dropped from Dragons Den 2007-05-30 14:25:00 Not a very Online or e-Marketing focused post, but hopefully interesting none the less! The BBC have announced that Richard Farley has been dropped from TV show Dragons
Den!I personally really rate the show, and Richard Farley is one of my favourite entrepreneurs! Why couldn't they have ditched Deborah Meaden and her whingey whiney views on all investment opportunities...It has been rumoured that he has been dropped in favour of recruiting an ethnic Dragon! Farley commented... "It would be disappointing if that was the reason - rather than anything fundamental - if it was because I was the wrong colour. "I don't know why this has happened and I am very disappointed and bemused - I wasn't expecting it because all the feedback I got was very positive. "I had even moved back to the UK to focus on commitments for the show. I am gutted that I have not been invited back.Anyway, sad to see Richard go, but at least it wasn't my favourite Dragon - Duncan Bannatine... Here is one of Read more:Dropped
Building Successful Landing Pages 2007-06-11 13:18:00 Almost anyone looking to make a purchase will start my making a search. As such landing pages and the relevance of information relating to this search becomes key, if a landing page isn’t relevant to the customers search Sales funnel drop-off becomes much more likely. Below I have detailed some key points to try and help make relevant and useful landing pages.1. Keyword focused landing pagesIdentify some keywords of high relevance and value to you, and create dedicated landing pages focused around these keywords. Start by focusing on some high level keywords, but its also worth investigating some more niche keywords or phrases, although the volumes of traffic are likely to be lower, the relevance will be high, and potential conversions may be improved.2. Keep it relevantIf a customer has clicked through looking for one product, make sure it is easy to complete the purchase/transaction. There is nothing worse than clicking through, and having to search through various product pages fo Read more:Building

The Importance of Back Links with Anchor Text 2007-06-25 13:15:00 Whilst at CJU there was a particularly good speaker who was talking in some detail, about the importance of good back links to your site, and especially the anchor text used for the back links. He gave a great example…. Type click here into google, and the top result will be Adobe, yet nowhere on the landing page, or on any of the key pages have I been able to find ‘click here’. So we can be pretty sure that they are only ranked in that position on that keyword due to the massive volumes of back links from high popularity sites saying ‘If you don’t have Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here’. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=click+here&meta=If you are in a generous mood and feel like spreading some link love, please feel free to link to this blog. I will reciprocate and add one to you as well. (just e-mail me and let me know where your link is on your site) In the anchor text please add one of the phases below…Online MarketingDigital MarketingOnline Marketing Bloge-C
CJU - Commission Junction University 2007-06-25 13:12:00 I was at CJ U EU Thursday and Friday, and would just like to say a quick ‘Thank You’ to all those at CommissionJunction
, the conference was exceptionally good, with a wide varied range of excellent speakers, some great seminars and some good opportunities for Networking!. Tim Waterstone (Founder of Waterstones Books Stores) spoke at the event and gave an exceptional motivational speech, on what key characteristics you require to be a great entrepreneur. It’s a bit late now, but if you are interested in finding out a little more on CJU, here’s a link.

Blog position in google 2007-07-12 14:31:00 Apologies it has been a while since the last post, unfortunately I seem to have rather a lot going on at the moment, and the blog has slipped in the priority list a bit.. However, over the next few weeks im going to be making a concerted effort to post more regularly...spurred on by the slight increase in this sites ranking on google, im keen to see if i can make it to the top for a couple of good key phrases...Online Marketing Blog - 4th position
Online Marketing - +100 got fed up lookinge-marketing blog - 95the-commerce blog - +100I'm aiming to post back on the ranking positions for these phrases monthly. Keep your eyes peeled hopefully we will see some movement..p.s (Will also try and post some stats on the effects this has on traffic)
Update on past posts 2007-07-17 14:42:00 I have been posting for a little while now and on a number of posts
have promised to come back on a number of points. This is just a quick post to pick back up on those points and give a bit of an update.Domain'ingAlthough I now have a few half decent domains in my portfolio, all of which are parked with Sedo, none are generating any real traffic or income from those clicks. Most probably due to the lack of indexing by the search engines. (again not helped by the fact that they are all parked domains) - Next steps to try and rectify this will be to build some basic pages, add some quick content in the form of text or reviews and add some adsense to the page. I'm not expecting amazing results, but will let you know if it helps deliver a few more clicks, and ultimately more ££. My SitesOnline Photo Printing Site - The site is now pretty much built, although a few sections are only about half way there. More content will be coming soon. Initially it doesn't appear to be ranking very w Read more:Update
My Favourite Blogs 2007-10-08 15:08:00 Here's a couple of few of my favourite blog reads, these are just two of the blogs which I will read regularly - both focused around online marketing.Here.org.uk - Affiliate Marketing blog by top Affiliate Marketeer Kieron Donoghue - updated most days and includes loads of useful tips for all online marketers. The best bit is that Kieron explains everything in plain English, and unlike many other blogs gives some good examples of techniques and their results. An all round great read!davechaffey.com - Dave is truly an Online 'Guru', and has even been named as one of the most influential people in the e-commerce world! His blog, and site as a whole are definitely worth keeping an eye on, lots of useful SEO and e-mail tips, as well as providing a great deal of other e-marketing insights.

Testing testing 1-2-3 2007-11-29 14:00:00 Apologies for all the problems with the site at the moment, I'm currently redeveloping the blog and at the same time trying to migrate to wordpress. But don't fear, I'm almost there and soon there will be a shiny new onlinemarketingblog.co.uk with daily posts from either myself or a series of industry guru's and guest speakers. Thanks for being patient in the switch over.
Theo Paphitis - Dragons Den 2007-12-04 13:12:00 Now that Richard Farley is long but forgotten on the Dragons
Den, I have to say that Theo Paphitis ‘fondly know to Radio 1 listeners as Theo Fajitas’ is fast becoming my favourite dragon, especially love his new catchphrase which has been in a few episodes…‘You want me to spend my Children's inheritance on that!’Be sure to check out his website www.theopaphitis.com – some very interesting background on him and also his companies.Another good one is Theo Paphitis – Top 5 Entrepreneurial tips www.theopaphitis.com/tips.aspHere is also a quick video of a clip i particularly like from the show. Spongebob theory for indexing new sites 2007-12-04 13:05:00 The SpongeBob Squarepants TheorySaw this posted on the a4uforum today, and it has got me thinking that this could be a good way to get your new site quickly indexed by Google, in cases where I have built a site and quickly started PPC campaigns it does seem to have a positive impact, but then the PPC campaigns have always been relevant to the content, and encouraged repeat visits.Interesting one none the less. I will be trialling on a new site I’m building and will let you know if it does have any potential. The SpongeBob Thereory(Sponge Bob can be replaced by any high volume term)When your site is ready – create a page calledspongebob.html/.php (whatever).Treat the foot of your Sponge Bob page likeA site map. List a straight text link to every pageon your site.Ok! So you’re thinking Affi is on speed and lost itWtf has Sponge Bob got to do with broadband…Now – if you don’t have one, open a google adwordsaccount and create a campaign called, you guessedit, “Sponge Bob”.Bi
Eggnog 2007-12-04 12:58:00 Its almost that time of year again, and for many people (Not so much here in the UK) that means we have 31 days to soak up as much Eggnog as possible! However, for some strange reason its almost impossible to buy Eggnog in this country. God knows why as it is quite a popular drink in Europe, and is all over the place in the US and Canada! If you get really stuck, and would like to make some Eggnog yourself, there is a recipe below. You will need· 6 eggs· 250 g of sugar· ½ tsp vanilla essence· ½ tsp of ground nutmeg and a little extra for garnishing· 200 ml of brandy· 100 ml of dark rum· 500 ml of cream· 500 ml of milk· 4 glasses· 1 electric hand mixer· 1 spoon· 1 large bowl· 1 ladle· 1 glass punch bowl1) Prepare the mixtureBreak the eggs one by one into the bowl. Using the hand mixer, beat the eggs for 2 to 3 minutes, until frothy. Slowly beat in the sugar, nutmeg and the vanilla essence. Blend for a few more seconds and then remov
Google to add blogs to Search Results 2007-12-17 14:53:00 Grabbed this off e-consultancy.com - Its very interesting and a big step forward for both google and online marketers as a whole, this is the first new media to be added to google for quite some time, and poses an even greater emphasis on good on-site content. This really goes some way to show how blogs have become far more mainstream in recent months, and more importantly how the end user uses blogs as part of their browsing habits. Taken from e-consultancy.com Marissa Mayer, the firm's search products and user experience VP, told eWeek that its search listings would start to include blog pages from this week or next. It's the first media type to be added since Google
launched its Universal Search
programme in May - an acknowledgement of blogs' growing popularity. It's also been seen as a response to recent search engine revamps by rivals Ask, Microsoft and Yahoo!. Mayer said that further innovations were planned as part of the scheme, which has already seen i Read more:Search Results
Ive got some rankings back!! Yippeee 2007-12-17 14:43:00 After Google harshly de-ranked my blog, pushing it out of the SERPs for a lot of good keywords, I have been busily SEO'ing, and it seems to be working. I'm now back in te SERPs for my biggest keyword 'Online Marketing Blog' and although it wasn't as high as it had ranked previously, I wasn't expecting this as I have only been concentrating on SEO'ing for the past few days. The results had dropped due to my own lack of focus on the site, and since I have started re-posting I have noticed a marked difference. However by far the best method for climbing up the SERPs seems to be getting a good linking strategy in place, I have managed to secure a few good links on relevant sites, with high Page Ranks (PR') and the knock on effect has resulted in kick starting my blog to having a PR of 2! (See below)Now for a few hours work in the evenings, that is a real result, and definitely something that will spur me on to get some more good links, and to continue to write content for the site.A

Google - wheres my rank gone? 2007-12-11 14:05:00 Back in July I posted about this blogs positions in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), ome of which, condisering it was a new'ish site in July were pretty good. (See below)Online Marketing Blog - 4th positionOnline Marketing - +100 got fed up lookinge-marketing blog - 95the-commerce blog - +100Since then, to be completely honest I havent done a lot to SEO the site, (Havent eve had enough time to write posts, let alone optimise) But the site had gradually creeped up the SERPS, with the term Online Marketing Blog moving from 3rd to 5th/6th position. But always on the 1st page for the term. Now it seems in Google
's infinite wisdom, some changes have gone in, and suddenly my blog has disappeared off the face of the earth. Altough I appreciate googles changes are probably for good reasons, it is none the less frustrating as this come just at the time where I have started to redveleop the blog, and things were starting to move.At least I have a chance to truly test out my SEO skills.
Next - Clothes delivery online - Get your payment system sorted!! 2007-12-19 14:40:00 I've been rather stretched for time recently so I have been buying a lot of Christmas presents online
. One such present which I had no luck getting on the high-street, I decided to buy online from next.co.uk - as with most online stores I had just assumed I could pay as normally with a credit or debit card at the end of the shopping process - Little did I know. Anyway, shopping process online was fairly easy once I had found the item, going through the departments was a bit of an effort, but eventually I found it using the search function. Once in the basket it was much the same as any other site, but not reading the small print as most people online never tend to do, I skipped through the registration process, and suddenly shopping was completed without entering a credit/debit card number... Strange, I thought.Later after investigating more, it seems that unknowingly I had signed up to Next Directory, had been credit scored, and sent the item on Credit. Now, I was more than Happy t Read more:Clothes
