Resident Evil 5 PS3 Conference Trailer Breakdown 2007-07-17 20:31:02
After hearing that some footage of RE5 was at the Sony E3 Press conference I assumed that Capcom wouldn’t be generous enough to give us a new trailer different to the MS Conference trailer. Well it turns out that they did and finally separate video has surfaced of just the RE5 part of the conference.
So if you haven’t seen the clip then check it out without delay:

Now I am going to refer to many points made in my breakdown of the 360 conference video. So I suggest reading that before you delve into this post. This video is much shorter than the previous one and many points have already been covered. So there isn’t a whole lot to break down.
To begin with this trailer repeats a number of scenes from the previous trailer, including:
-the stage scene
-angry crowd scene
-the brief snippit of the claws growing
-the scene with the strange man being restrained

Risks Revised: A Blogging Revision 2007-07-16 09:49:59 Hey guys, I think that now is the right time for me to talk about a few new blogging projects that I have been secretly working on. Of course I need a bit of reasoning to back this up, hence a:
Prologue
It all started about 2 weeks ago, I had decided to conduct a survey for PrimeScape in order to get some solid feedback for site and content improvements. Overall the feedback was very useful. It reconfirmed my thoughts about the site; being that I write some good stuff which is worth a few visits but I am still a long way off of writing some major gold.
Something that really stood out in the survey responses was that one person said that there was too much variety in the site’s content. This has been a problem that I have been weary of for some time now. So after a few hours dwelling on how I could constructively use the feedback to improve the site, I came out with the following outcome.

Hidden Secrets/Clues in the Resident Evil 5 Trailer 2007-07-11 13:09:45
Earlier today Microsoft showed off a mountain of video of new games for the Xbox 360 at their E3 press conference. Arguably the most important trailer of the lot was the Resident

Unfortunately it will probably be months before Capcom actually inform us of these tidbits. So I have gone through the trailer with a fine comb in order to hunt the down some juicy details. A Niche Interest 2007-07-08 09:28:16
Hey friends, sorry about the lack of posts recently, I shall explain that one a little later. For now let me just run thru some stuff that has been going on with me.
Recently I’ve redeveloped my passion for niche and retro gaming titles. This was kick started by a retro gaming blog that I read at RacketBoy.com . Bascially I had decided to run thru the site and pick out the posts that I was interested in reading. After 6 hours straight of reading I was satisfied.
This also reminded me of how I’d been meaning to get into a number of 2D fighting franchises as well as some Neo Geo stuff. So I continued my research for a few days and this is my conclusion. I have decided to pick up:
-King of Fighters XI
-Neo Geo Battle Coloseum
After reading some reviews of the Art of Fighting Trilogy I decided to pass. I’m still unsure about Fatal Fury Battle Archives 1, I will have to wait until its released. I have found it impossible to find Guilty Gears XX, so I will wait for Acce Read more:Interest
This Weeks Linkies - Freshness 2007-07-04 21:22:49
I’m very happy with the pile of links that I have managed to collect since the last post. Let me jump straight into it:
I am suprised that I haven’t linked off here yet. For the past few weeks I’ve been reading the blog of Thomas Ella @ Whatisdelicious. His blog is strictly about games and he does a good job of it. From reviews, editorials and news Thomas has a great variety of quality posts. If you like my blog then I strongly recomend checking out his as well as its very good. He is also now on my blogroll just incase you forget.
I am into the whole desktop customization thing and wanted to share some wallpapers that I have been using recently. The first one is a collection of wallpapers from my favourite digital illustrator j3concepts. He did this pack for a modelling website called SuicideGirls based on alternative models. The other wallpaper is of a modern building, its rather minimalistic bt you gotta love that contempory design.

Retro Review - Shinobi III Return of the Ninja Master 2007-07-01 10:33:52
Much like my last Retro Review this game is from the 16-bit era. I remember playing Shinobi on my cousin’s Megadrive(Genesis to you Americans) when I was a little tacker. Thankfully SEGA have included Shinobi 3: Return
of the NinjaMaster
in Sega MegaDrive Collection(which I have been madly playing), so I have been able to get back into this awesome ninja game.
Summary
Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master is the 3rd game in the Shinobi timeline and sees the return of evil Neo Zeed. Shinobi 3 is regarded as the best game in the Shinobi series which couldn’t be any truer. When you play Shinobi you can’t help but feel like a ninja, despite the somewhat ‘Americanized’ feel to the game. Stick that ninja feel with some crazy ninja scenarios and you have yourself one of the best damn ninja games of the generation.
Story
NB: The word Shinobi means ‘ninja’ in Japanese, in the Shinobi games, the Shinobi is the hero of the story. Hence the Shinobi char
Getting out and about The Social Gamer 2007-06-30 08:31:47 If there’s one thing that I sometimes feel guilty about is not being social enough. This is normally a result of me focusing too much on one particular thing and whoring it out until I am satisfied. Now I must admit, for the last 2 weeks I have been doing this for my Chinese study. I guess its a good thing though as I have made some astounding progress and am very proud of it.
Fortunately for gamer nerds like me(and probably you) I can have a great social life and game at the same time. I wanted to bring this up as I am now officially on holidays an there are a slew of great gaming events going on that are going to keep me constantly busy. Plus I had one of our regular gatherings with the boys yesterday, so it reminded me to post this. Here’s a list of what is on this holidays:

Three Recent Positives in the Gaming Industry 2007-06-27 02:45:52 Children feel really warm inside when a parent treats their child to something special. Much like children gamers feel the same way when a developer decides to treat their gamers with something special. This kind of consumer love should definitely not go unnoticed. So I have decided to talk about some of these highlights for the gamer.
Final Fantasy I + II
The great thing about these remakes are that most gamers haven’t really played the original games. There’s a lot of Final Fantasy fanboys out there that would have killed to own the original FF games but thankfully Square Enix has prevented any deaths with these two remade games. This is such a positive thing for the gaming industry as it gives gamers what they have wanted for years and honestly what we deserved.
Final Fantasy I has been shipped out to retailers just recently. Infact Square Enix know how badly people want this game that they had/have(damn American timezones) a launch party down at the Metreon Playstation Read more:Three

Retro Review Lufia 2: The Rise of the Sinistrals 2007-06-24 09:17:06
Welcome to this new and now regular segment; Retro Review where I look back at games of old. This isn’t like a game review though, think of it more so like a retrospective. The name ‘Retro Review’ wouldn’t stop poking at my brain when it came to brainstorming names, so thats why its the review.
Summary
Lufia 2 was developed by Neverland and released on the SNES in 1996. Lufia 2 is the second title in the Lufia series and the first Lufia game to be released in PAL territories. Despite being the second in the series it is actually a prequel to the original Lufia. So where Lufia 2’s story finishes Lufia’s starts.
Lufia 2 is one of the many RPGs to have graced the Super Nintendo. Unfortunately for all its worth it received little notice from the gaming community due to its late release in the system’s life cycle. Which is disappointing as Lufia 2 was the first RPG that I fell in love with. Like many RPGs of the time period Lufia 2 contained the
Getting the most out of your avatar (Feat. Hugh Jackman) 2007-06-21 21:28:05 Avatars are generally under estimated, your avatar is your friend. Treat them well and you will be rewarded. This guide shows you how to get the most out of your avatar and also how your avatar can help you out. So let me start with the basics:
What makes a good avatar?
An avatar is a small image which suits your personality, therefore a good avatar is an avatar which best expresses your personality. That is if you are a happy person then display an image of something happy. Simple.
When people communicate with other people through the internet they assosiate that person to their avatar. That is each person’s “identifier” in our minds eye is their avatar. Try it for yourself think of someone you know on the internet and one of the first things that you will think of is their avatar.
This might sound somewhat strange but when peopl communicate thru the internet they literally believe that they are communicating to whatver it is in the persons avatar. Therefore your av Read more:Jackman

Stephen Welton?’s Blogging Success Challenge! 2007-06-19 21:10:25 It may surprise that you that although I blog about videogames I don’t really read many video game blogs. Most of the blogs that I read are about internet entrepreneurs, blogging and success. I find these blogs very motivating and inspiring.
Today I wanted to share something that a fellow blogger wrote about success. Stephen
Welton set his readers a challenge, titled Stephen Welton?’s BloggingSuccessChallenge
! Stephen’s idea is that visual images of what we want to achieve in life continuously inspire us to try and reach that goal. This is because when we visualize that image it reminds us of how much we want to be successful and it motivates us to do so. Now Stephen’s challenge was for his readers to:
Go out and take a photo of something you want of something you really care about that you consider to be part of YOUR success. It could be something you already achieved or something you want. It could be something you consider important to you like your family.

Uni life has been going fine. Being the end of the semester I’ve had plenty of work to do. Thankfully I currently only have one exam left which is Chinese. I have completed my 2 major linguistics essays, my design exam and a phonetics assignment.
Beyond the workload everything has been bumping along pretty typically, I haven’t seen my mates much in the last week as I have been dead set focused on getting all of this work out of the way. But now that its over that is going to change.

This Weeks Linkies - Now a Regular Segment! 2007-06-13 10:27:58
G’day people thanks for tuning in. Its been a while since I’ve written something not related to anything. In the next few days I’ll probably put out something about how my personal life is actually going but until then we have: This weeks linkies.I’ve decided to turn this into a regular segment which I shall try to post bi-weekly. And as its a regular segment now it deserves its own header. Okay lets get into it.
I’ve been saving this one up for a while now. Its a link to an IGN article about a photoshoot with all of the Tomb Raider models. That is models that have cosplayed(I guess) as Lara Croft. For some reason they are suited up in the typical Lara Croft get up. But it makes for a good link anyways. So check it out.
Talking about Tomb Raider, GameTrailers has had a few good video reviews recently including Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. I love video reviews. Screw Attack also have a bunc Read more:Weeks

The Playstation 2 Story 2007-06-10 07:23:34
How it (tradgically) went down
I haven’t posted about this yet and I really should. Basically I’d been meaning to buy a PS2 for probably 2/3 years now and I finally got around to it the other week. I have been keenly looking for one for about 3 months and found and pretty good deal at Harvey Norman. That was:
-Playstation 2 console
-Extra Controller
-8mb memory card
-2x Platnium titles Total price - $299So I worked that out to be about $170 or so just for the console by itself. Which was close enough to my target goal. The deal had everything that I needed to get started so and I was getting a bit anxious of just watching a few decent sales go by. So I decided to get it.
I was assuming that they may have a few other titles that I might want to pick up down at my local Harvey Norman so I was prepared to maybe buy a few more games. Unfortunately their range of games were pretty average infact I was more impressed by their PSP bargain bin. Out of the limited range I chose Bur
RSS Folders Problem Fixed Opera 2007-06-07 19:06:19 Now if your like me you like everything to be nice and organised. I am an Opera browser user and unfortunately in Opera you cannot sort your RSS feeds into folders. This is a feature that really should be added in future versions. You can add filters to your feeds but they just don’t work as well as they should do.
So I thought of this quick fix, basically I just add ‘Category Name -’ to the front of the feed and Opera automatically sorts out all of the feeds into alphabetical order. Sure its a mega basic idea but it might help someone else out there.

Why we aren’t going to see a Final Fantasy VII remake 2007-06-06 06:23:43 In the early days of the Playstaion 3 many buddying developers released conceptual gameplay clips in order to show what the system was capable of producing in real time. Square Enix, not to be left out released a trailer of their own based on the most popular entry of their Final
Fantasy series; FFVII. This trailer was purely conceptual and they had no intentions of releasing a FFVII game on the Playstation 3. Now despite saying this the FF fanboys across the globe went rampid speculating that SE were secretly developing a FFVII remake for the console.
Now fast forward to a few days ago where SE character designer; Tetsuya Nomura denied the speculation that SE have a FFVII remake in the pipeline. Now despite him saying this, a few (perhaps) desperate people still believe that SE are secretly going to remake the game.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love the Final Fantasy
series, especially the Tactics series. But I don’t think that a re-make will happen and hence I present to you Read more:Final Fantasy VII
Playing Console Catch ups 2007-06-02 23:08:01
I’m sure that some of us gamers may have done it once or twice. Infact its inevitable for most of us poor gamers out there. There comes a time when we need to decide whether its worthwhile to invest in another console. This can be because we missed out the first time around or we just want another console to expand our gaming horizons.
Deciding whether it is a worthwhile investment is the tricky part. I’ve done this numerous times before and did it again today. So lets take a look at whats required to make that important decision.
Getting started
Lets make the case study for this article be the latest console that I’ve picked up; a Playstation 2. Its better late than never I guess. I’ve been eyeing one off for about 2 years but only recently has it been the best time to buy. Lets take a look at what I did to prepare for a console catch up.

More Great Capcom Tidbits 2007-07-20 09:47:39 Hey guys, not sure if you have read this or not. I actually posted this on the 20th of July but because we where switching servers it got deleted. I know that it went thru my RSS reader, not sure about anyone elses, in anycase. Here it is:
Another excuse for me to post about Resident Evil 4? Well yes. I seriously didn’t expect all of these new details and videos to pop up so suddenly. But they have so by law I must blog about them.
To begin with Capcom

news, should sit nicely along side Street Fighter and Dark Stalkers. There’s not a lot more to say, you can check out some screenies and scans here.
The most important part of news is that new details have surfaced on Resident Evil 5 straight from the producers mouth. Overall they are actually pretty juicy. Lets run thru:

…on how damn difficult it is to keep up to date on everything that happened! E3 finished a few days ago(when this was written) and I still have over a hundred feeds to read just on the event itself. Its ridiculous.
Just to stress the ridiculousness here is a run down of everything that I had prepared for E3 Basically everybody wants news, screenshots and a comprehensive list of video. Pretty simple right?

Unfinished Business 2007-08-05 08:01:42 I just wanted to take the time to chase up some old business related to some previous entries in the blog. Firstly I’ll begin with the recent release of Shinobi III for the Wii’s Virtual Console. I wrote a Retro Review on the game early last month(more RRs on the way ;)). Now that this game is readily(or will be shortly) available its a good opportunity to snatch it up. If you’re unsure then take a flick thru the review. Metroid and Castlevania fans whom also have a love for B-grade ninja action should check this title out.
I mentioned in my Avcon Adventures post that I would link to photos from Avcon when they became available. And they are now available, in fact there are piles of photos and videos available. So take a peek.
Lastly I added DP’s Fav Posts to the side bar, so if you are new to the blog, this page tells you where to find the gold.

This Week’s Linkies - Galleries 2007-08-04 07:56:37
The game industry is still recouping from the news buzz that was the E3 expo(see previous entry for an elaboration). Although it wasn’t as exciting as previous years it was still enough to leave us in this fairly dry state. So to recover from the lack of interesting news and flood of after E3 impressions I have decided to add a few more links to the chain.
Lemme start off with 2D fighters, its no surprise that I have been fanatically interested in these games recently. So to start off with I have two intro movies; one from Guilty Gear Accent Core and the other for King of Fighters MIRA. To be honest they arent even that good but its good to find some new video on these games.
Sticking to the theme for a second, earlier this week I emailed out a link to Udon Comics to my friends. Udon Comics are responsible for the excellent artwork for fighters such as Street Fighter and Guilty Gear. They also do a manga and comics as well. Back to Back: Proving Ground + Metroid Prime 3 2007-08-12 07:41:45 There have been a few news bytes on two games that I am much anticipating. First details and media have been released for the new Tony Hawk game for the DS, once again created by the excellent Vicarious Visions. Also we have started to see some of the pre-release hype for Metroid
Prime 3: Corruption.
Tony Hawk Proving
Ground
I am a loyal follower of the Tony Hawk franchise, like most people I began with THPS2 for the PSone and held a steady interest in the series until the slim upgrades almost made me lose sight of the franchise. That was until the DS iterations of the series came along and rekindled my interest. I personally believe that these games have been a real under appreciated breath of fresh air for the series.
So far we have seen American Sk8land and Downhill Jam. Both excellent titles developed by Vicarious Visions; the developers for the also great GBA titles. These games packed a plethora of features such as online play, touch screen customization and voice input. These fe

is a new featured series showcasing the various images that changed the way we thought about gaming, the characters and franchises within it. To view more entries in this series click here.
D’arci Stern
is the main character of the PSone, Dreamcast and PC title Urban Chaos. Urban Chaos wasn’t a very successful game commercially nor critically. Infact when you look at it that way the game was generally pretty useless. Although it did start a positive trend in the gaming industry.
You see the gaming industry has a few elements of the film industry embedded deep inside it. One of those being the strong focus on visually appealing women, no I’m not talking about non blocky women with not a jaggie in sight. I’m talking about sexy white chicks with big boobs like Lara Croft and the Dead or Alive girls.
Thankfully though there has been a small trend forming in the gaming industry over the years. Where developers ditch this cliché and in
Gamers are just Interested in the Games 2007-08-14 07:07:28 From an outsiders perspective it seems fairly obvious doesn’t it? That the key thing that us gamers care about is just the games. The point that I am making is a result of data from the following survey. 6,260 next gen console owners were involved in the survey, from ages 6-44. It shows that gamers do not have very much interest in the multimedia features of consoles but rather the games.
Here are some of the figures worth noting, if you are lazy and don’t want to click the link:
-DS owners were more likely to take their system online than PSP gamers
-50% of people knew that the PS3 had HD graphics
-30% of people knew that the Xbox360 had HD graphics
-40% of PS3 owners knew that is equipped with a Blu-ray player
This survey is further proof of the current consumer trend towards more accesible gaming. Combine these with the high sales of the Wii, DS, Singstar, Buzz and the gang and its not hard to see where gaming is heading.
I wanted to bring up this data because it got me Read more:Gamers

BioShocking Reviews 2007-08-18 08:13:24 I should probably begin this article with a list of review scores for Bioshock. The reviews are in and the game isn’t doing too bad by the major sites:
IGN - 97.0%
GameSpy - 5 out of 5
Game Informer - 10 out of 10
Eurogamer - 10 out of 10
TeamXbox - 95.0%
1UP - 10 out of 10
Official Xbox Magazine UK - 10 out of 10
GamePro - 5 out of 5
Xbox World 360 Magazine UK - 94.0%
So if you haven’t already, check out one of the reviews. To be honest I wasn’t really anticipating the game that much due to its nature(a 360/PC FPS title..meh). But from the reviews that I have read the game sounds like gold.
On the topic of reviews, Rune Factory has just been released and has reviews to accommodate that as well. Rune Factory is the DS Harvest Moon + battling elements game. Thankfully the game is a return to the original quality gameplay mechanics. I haven’t played a HM title since the SNES title, so Rune Factory might be another must buy.
Square Enix has just opened up a new w
Jeanne d’Arc :: leading the resurrection of the PSP? 2007-08-16 23:53:22
I’ve previously spoken about my uncertainty as to whether it is worth me purchasing a PSP. With the upcoming redesign and a slew of fresh quality titles on the way it is almost looking like a certified purchase.
One of the key titles that has persuaded my decision is Jeanne
d’Arc. Jeanne d’Arc is a new Strategy/RPG developed by Level 5. These guys were also responsible for other great games like Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud. The game is based on the Joan of Arc story but it has a number of changes the the formula. The most notable aspect is the anime inspired graphics; the game features beautiful cell shaded graphics and anime cut scenes.
The main hook for me is the deep, engrossing, RPG/Stratergy gameplay which isn’t unlike Final Fantasy Tactics(probably my favourite strategy title). The game should be out now or at least coming soon to your region. So definitely check the title out. IGN recently did a 3 page review of the game giving it a 9.0 out of 10, you c
