Iran, Get Ready, Here We Come!
2006-10-22 14:57:00
I had received an email from the Crawford Peace House (reprint posted on jobsanger) about a Naval build-up in the Persian Gulf. The email is from a report by the DEBKAfile. the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group steamed into the Persian Gulf to join the US naval, air and marine concentration piling up opposite Iran's shores. It consists of the amphibious transport dock USS Nashville, the

Racism Is Not A Thing Of The Past, It Exists
2006-10-21 03:14:00
In a recent Washington Post article, the Post reported on a study conducted by Vanderbilt economist Joni Hersch where she found a correlation between skin color and income earnings among immigrants. Hersch found that Hispanic, Asian, and white immigrants with darker skin color earned less money than their fair-skinned counterparts. Immigrants with the lightest complexions earned, on average, about

The Race-Class Taboo
2006-10-18 19:04:00
The quandary in this country, classism has become sort of a no-no in America to speak about because there is a myth that this country is assumed to be classless. We are constantly bombarded with the notion that this is the "land of opportunity." And if you didn't "make it" it was your fault for not taking advantage of all the tools that are there for the taking. We are reminded of this everyday,

New Comment Policy
2006-10-18 16:55:00
I am starting to notice that I am attracting more unwarranted comments of the bigoted kind. I really don't mind criticisms, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, especially if your purpose is to engage in intelligent conversation. But when a few dipshit racist/white supremacists decide to venture out of their roach motels toting their predictable rhetoric over here, well, enough is enough.

Is the GOP the Party of White Supremacist?
2006-10-16 19:20:00
It is funny how the GOP loves to use Martin Luther King Jr's "color-blindness" line from the 1963 March on Washington when it comes to race issues. In fact, the Party recently has been actively recruiting minorities just to show how serious their efforts are to end racism. However, it is not hard to see how white supremacist groups have learned to play the system. Oh sure they are quick to

Oaxaca: Follow-up
2006-10-12 19:01:00
It looks like things are still not looking good in Oaxaca . It looked like the APPO, teachers and government were about to reach an agreement to allow the police to enter, until the police and roving band of strikers wearing hoods and carrying clubs and rocks started shooting at members of APPO and some university students. According to La Jornada, gunfire erupted as a band of roving strikers -

When in Doubt, Spin
2006-10-11 21:16:00
A growing sentiment among the Rethugs for the undocumented immigrants is becoming more evident as November is just right around the corner. And the closer it gets, the closer they are to their downfall as the GOP continue to explode into plain view right before the mid-term elections. I wrote about one Rethug in CO, Rick O'Donnell, who is interested in establishing a national service corp. for men

The American Empire: Conquest Through NAFTA
2006-10-09 22:00:00
I apologize for not posting for the past few days. I was away from my computer for a family emergency. The situation is a bit to complex to explain. Not that I don't want to share, but I am trying comprehend the situation myself. All I can say, things are ok for now. Soon after the Mexico's Electoral Tribunal declared Felipe Calderón President-elect on Sept 5, three of his advisers met secretly

Profiting From Public Education
2006-10-23 17:07:00
Back in Oct 2005, the US Department of Education (ED) had published a decision that forbids educators (teacher unions) affiliated with a troubled school to offer remedial services to struggle students. Decisions in Florida by the U.S. Department of Education, if implemented nationwide, would bar groups affiliated with school systems rated "in need of improvement" from participating in the tutoring

XP's Endorsement for Governor
2006-10-24 17:26:00
Elections are just around the corner and here in Texas. I figure I will give my endorsement two cents worth this year and see how it goes. Ever since the defeat of Ann Richards in 1994 and the overwhelming dominance of the Republican Party in TX politics over the last several years, everything has gone down hill. The truth is, Texas government really does need a change. This is not say that the

All Good Things Must Come to an End
2006-10-28 12:07:00
To paraphrase Shakesphere, "Alas,...poor YouTube! I knew them well." Jeff at NewsCloud (via The Raw Story) is reporting that YouTube is removing all of Comedy Central Clips based on DMCA claims. This would include all Daily Show, Colbert Report and South Park. I received a couple of emails from YouTube this afternoon (see below) notifying me that a third party (probably attorneys for Comedy

8 things beautiful

I would have done this a lot sooner, however, Blogger has become more of a thorn on my side this past week, since Blogger had a significant number of unplanned outages. I could putt on my worn out tinfoil hat and say that the outages are part of the Google conspiracy. But no, they are not working with the NSA to silence bloggers, they are doing it for themselves. Its Google's way of letting people know they want people to switch to their newer version of Blogger, since none of my problems I experienced affected the new version of Blogger. Only problem, I will not be able to switch everything into the newer version. It is not as if I haven't thought about switching to a new blog that would give me the creative freedom to design the blog the way I like to see it. Truthfully, I started thinking about back in June. I started with Blogsome, but like the new version of Blogger, I am unable import all my post to the new blog. So I looked into Wordpress because I knew I could my import posts

Texas Lt Gov and The Intelligence Business
2006-10-27 05:00:00
Here in Texas , Lt Gov is the office you if you want to run Texas Gov, even though on the books it considered the second-highest office in Texas. It is considered the most powerful post because the Lt Gov controls the work of the Texas Senate and controls the budgeting process as a leader of the Legislative Budget Board. The Lt Gov is elected separately from the Gov, rather than on the same ticket; so it is unusual to have the Gov and the Lt Gov to be from different political parties.David Dewhurst, who was elected Lt Gov in 2002, is running for re-election. Dewhurst will face Democrat Maria Luisa Alvarado, a veteran's issues research analyst and the winner of the April 11 runoff primary, in the November general election. However, one of most mysterious Republican candidates is Dewhurst. So far, Dewhurst has raised more than $3.4 million against his much-underfunded opponent. That still doesn't mean it is a cake-wake. Recently, I have been noticing he has been coming out with his tele

Rest in Peace Brad Will, May Justice Prevail
2006-10-30 18:12:00
I have been meaning to write this, but, once again Blogger was not cooperating. On October 27, 2006 Indymedia journalist and videoblogger Brad Will was the killed while covering the teacher's strike in Oaxaca. He was known to have supported the protesters and their cause New York City Independent Media Center reported that Will was shot Friday in the stomach while he was documenting the assault

Exercising My Civic Duty : I Voted
2006-11-01 21:33:00
Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule - and both commonly succeed, and are right. -- H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956) I have done my civic duty and voted today. I went to my local grocery store since it was designated as one of the county's early voting location. For whatever good it will do, I, at least, can say I've

Election day
2006-11-07 16:08:00
Sorry for the lack of posts. There is a couple of reasons, one good and one bad. Currently, I am working on a project. The completion of the project will depend on the next issue. Currently, my uncle is in town because he is scheduled for open heart surgery. Not only is my uncle here in town so are all my relatives from my father's side of the family. Normally, I would write what this day

Congrats Everybody but Texas
2006-11-08 23:08:00
There is a lot to be excited about Democratic victory. The Democrats have won 228 seats leaving the Republicans 196. This now means Rep Nancy Pelosi of CA will become the new Speaker of the House, not only will it be Dudya worst nightmare, but she will now be the first woman to lead the chamber, which also means she is 3rd in line to the Presidency. CAN WE TALK ABOUT IMPEACHMENT NOW! In the

How Red Is Texas Really?
2006-11-09 15:30:00
I find it hard to consider the Texas election went smoothly for the Republicans. They continue to slime their way to "victory" through fraud and strident propaganda, as they did after election since the 1980s. The only way to stop it is to face it, and then shout so long and loud until the people finally perceive that their suspicions are perfectly just - and ultimately say BASTA! Ever since Bush

Blogger and I are parting ways

I was tired of playing guessing games with Blogger . Therefore, I have decided to pack my bags and say adios to Blogger. I have moved on and looking forward to a new journey over at my to my new place over at xicanopwr.com. America and Mexico, Being Played For a Fool
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Yes, the anti-immigrants are being played for a fool and they don't even know. As anti-immigrant proponents lavish and complimentary media attention orchestrated by rabid nativist crying out how the "Mexicans" are intent on destroying America as we know it, they soon will enter their own matrix of public spin. Mexican President Vicente Fox has rehired Rob Allyn's lobbying firm to ease the

Assassination Attempt on Chavez Failed
1970-01-01 00:59:59
According to the Melbourne Herald Sun, a plot to assassinate Hugo Chávez by the Bush Administration was once again foiled. Chavez says he has received warnings from within the White House that Washington is plotting to assassinate him or topple his left-leaning government. Citing information from an alleged White House informant, Chavez told thousands of supporters at a campaign rally today that

Pat Buchanan: Xenophobic Poster Boy
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I have been waiting for this video to be floating around the Internets. Pat Buchanan went on the "Daily Show" to explain his theory of Mexico's secret plot to recapture the Southwest with an army of hardworking immigrants who, he claims, don't like English or America. His interview was nothing but a string of fabrications that needs to be exposed. [forced to take down] Buchanan was true to form

The People in Oaxaca Need Your Assisstance

The Lead Up to the Oaxaca Crisis

[Update: The same post can be found here at my new blog.] One of the best thing about small town newspapers, sometimes you get better reports than you major mainstream media. One of the best and clear explanations of the issues in Oaxaca happens to come from Border Hotline - an online news magazine for Texas' Big Bend Area and northern Mexico. The only downside it is an online subscription based

Privatized Prisons for Immigrants
2007-03-10 01:28:06
In the nation’s response to the tragedy that occurred in 9/11 attacks, the border acquired new significant importance in the “war on terror.” Among the most relevant of the changes that transpired, the immigration issue is now assigned to the Department of Homeland Security. Although Mexico has no significant Islamic population and houses no known [...]

A Call to Action
2007-03-08 04:02:38
There is an urgency this minute, I am alarmed by the complacency in reaction to the things that are taking place right here, right now in the United States of America. Most people of color love to say about the bygone days of the struggle, what they have been through to maintain what they [...]
