Q&A: To Stare Or Not To Stare?
2007-05-02 05:24:22
I was at Souplantation (a fine restaurant) Sunday evening. There was a man sitting a couple tables away from my mother and I. The notable thing about this man was that he walked with a severe limp. He was walking back and forth from the buffet. Every time he walked back, I just couldn’t help [...]

Future: Power Napping
2007-05-07 07:46:03
The folks over at the University of Wisconsin have created a “power napping machine”. Apparently, all you have to do is strap on a device and you can squeeze in about 8 hours of sleep within 2-3 hours! I could definitely use one of these. Think of all the time I could save! Read about [...]

Quick Post: PS3 Price Cut

There are rumors of a $100 price cut for the Playstation 3. Basically, there seems to be a larger supply of Blu-Ray diodes that will help facilitate its expensive price tag. Article also talks about a price cut for the XBox 360 as well. A price cut seems a bit too early for now, as some [...]

Goof Off: Solar Powered Lighter

My dad would love this one. He always gets pissed off when the lighter runs out of lighter fluid. Anyways, this is a lighter from a Portugal-based company. It’s solar powered and the bottom serves as a bottle opener. Talk about being both convenient and green simultaneously. Unlike traditional lighters, this lighter expels sparks instead [...]

Ouch!: Breakdancer Kicks Toddler

Fortunately, it wasn’t intentional, but I’m sure the toddler was bawling her head off going back home. If you can’t see the video, then here’s the link. If the mother decides to sue the breakdancer then I think all my sympathy for the toddler would evaporate. But I don’t think there will be any suing going on though. breakdancer, ouch, toddler

Rants & Raves: Flyte

Hehe, I stayed until 3:00 am in the morning this weekend just so I could finish reading a book called Flyte by Angie Sage. It’s soooo green and preeeetty! And I feel as if I’ve bonded with the characters with this book. Now I must search for the third book, Physik, which is, unfortunately, not in my local library. Internet Porn Stats
2007-05-13 23:39:55
Usually, I’m not inclined to write about such suggestive things on this blog, but I felt that I should write this for purely educational purposes. Good Magazine made a very creative video that displays facts about internet pornography. Due to the suggestive theme of the video, you can go see it at TechCrunch or Youtube instead. So here are some of the interesting facts disclosed in the video about the internet porn industry: 89% of porn is created in the U.S. $2.84 billion in revenue was generated from U.S. porn sites in 2006 $89/second is spent on porn 72% of porn viewers are men 260 new porn sites go online daily 3,412 people visit Kellemarie’s website daily, the website of the lady in the video. Wordpress 2.2
2007-05-18 03:44:58
So yesterday night I’m trying to deal with my auto-redirecting admin page on this blog when I pop on over to Wordpress .org to check for any new stuff. What a pleasant surprise when I saw that Wordpress 2.2 “Getz” was just out and I could upgrade. This new release is a lifesaver I’m telling you. There is a list of new features over at Wordpress for the new release, but I think I should highlight some good ones. (at least in my opinion) “No breaking your blog” feature - This is my most favorite feature. Basically, Wordpress won’t allow you to activate/edit any plugins that will break your blog. I think this one would let many other Wordpress bloggers like me breathe a sigh of relief. (Because who knows how many times I’ve broken my blog after installing a plugin! ) Now I can feel at ease every time I try a new plugin. Infinite comment stream - I don’t think I’d use this very much, but I think it’s a very useful feature

New! Meebo Rooms
2007-05-17 03:31:47
I have a slow computer and lazy person so often I use Meebo for all my instant messaging needs. For those who don’t use Meebo, it’s basically an online instant messaging that combines multiple IM services like AIM, Yahoo! IM, MSN, etc. And it’s all online so I don’t have to download any software just to talk to my friends. Anyway, Meebo just introduced a new release and one thing I like about it is the new Meebo Rooms feature. Join rooms and you can receive alerts on what’s going on in the room without being in it. Another feature I like is the ability to embed the room into your own blog or personal webspace. The best feature I like is that you can play videos inside the room just by typing in a link! I love that. Saves time to load the video on another website that I have to open using an extra tab. So all in all, just check out Meebo Rooms. Lots of neat stuff and does miracles on loading time. aim, gtalk, icq, im, instant messaging, jabber, Meebo, ms

Rumor: Google Gobbles Feedburner?
2007-05-20 06:36:42
Mashable heard from Vecosys who heard from a “very trusted source” that Feedburner is going to be acquired by Google . Once again, heard. This might go from a rumor to a fact though because why wouldn’t Google buy Feedburner? Feedburner would allow Google to get into the RSS ad market. Then Google would be able to serve ads in RSS feeds. A lot people read RSS feeds from their favorite websites and don’t really go to the website at all so that would make Google’s AdSense program kind of useless for publishers. According to Vecosys, the only thing that’s keeping this deal from happening is beacause Google still needs to seal the DoubleClick deal back in April. A[Philiac] uses Feedburner to manage its RSS and email feeds. If Google does indeed buy Feedburner, then I think we can expect to see Adsense and DoubleClick ads in those feeds. adsense, doubleclick, email, feed, feedburner, google, mashable, rss, rumor, vecosys

Face Off: Apple iPhone vs. LG Prada
2007-05-19 06:07:34
A while ago, I wrote about this issue but it seems that post has gone missing. Doesn’t matter. Gizmodo’s Brian Lam wrote a post to give his final verdict on the little spat between Apple iPhone and the LG Prada . Obviously, the Apple iPhone was named the victor. Remember, this is Gizmodo we’re talking about here. However, despite the bias that comes with the Gizmodo name, Brian does bring up good points. At $700-$850, the Prada is too expensive with its lack of many features. While Prada doesn’t really utilize its touchscreen, the iPhones allows you to zoom in/out on pictures, scroll through long names, etc. Sync software much better in iPhone than Prada. Think wonderful widgets. iPhone uses EDGE and WiFi, while Prada uses 3G. And iPhone has a better browser than Prada’s. Simply put, the Prada sucks in the tech part but it’d make a pretty personal touchscreen phone. Now that this iPhone/Prada thing has been “resolved”, another competit

Q&A: IM Use and Client?
2007-05-24 17:22:30
You know what they say, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” It’s true and one way to live up to that is through IMing. Instant messaging is a great way to expand your friends list. With new friends, you can receive help, garner more knowledge, and even help others out. (But as a kid, the prevalent reason in why I chat online all day is so I can get my homework done. ) An example of this is meeting Rishi from rishiraj.info. Nice guy. Helped me fix that commenting problem. So anyway, I just have a question. What do you use IMing for? Has it helped you and what IM client do you use? (Pidgin, Trillian, etc.) Share your instant messaging experience. Maybe you can learn about new IM clients through other people’s comments. I use the AIM software but I mostly use Meebo because of the convenience and it combines multiple IM protocols in one nice-looking package. Thoughts in the comments. On a side note, if you’d like to chat with me onlin

FineTune + Wii
2007-05-21 21:46:23
Or it could be great party audio. What I’m talking about is FineTune, a website that allows users to compile their own playlists and acts as a referrer to other music that the user may like. (Think Last.fm) I just began using FineTune and I thought it’s great that they offer a media-playing service made specifically for the Wii . You see, I’ve been looking for a way to stream files to my Wii without any hassle, but that’s been hard. (You can try out Red Kawa but I’ve been having some problems.) I knew about FineTune but I had no idea that I could play my playlist on my own Wii. So if you’re looking to play some music on your Wii for party or just because, you might wanna check out FineTune if you haven’t already. finetune, music, nintendo, red kawa, wii

Dell Launches Ubuntu Computers
2007-05-26 20:51:39
On May 24, Dell began selling Ubuntu Linux computers. A positive development for people who’ve been waiting. The thing is that Dell’s selling the machines at Windows prices! It’s just like Engadget said: Prices start at $599 for your choice of the E520n desktop or E1505n notebook while the XPS 410n will cost you $899. Interestingly enough, Vista pre-load pricing starts at $369 for the E520, $699 for the E1505, and $899 for the XPS 410. Huh? I assume there is a reasonable explanation behind this pricing scheme. Perhaps Dell thought there’d be less sales generated from their Ubuntu computers? Let the Windows monopoly be dispersed. (Despite my bias towards favoring Windows.) Postal Service Reference Solved!

Does anyone in here visit Whitesoap regularly to read about news stuff? Kudos, if you do! If you don’t, well, it’s got some interesting links there. Whitesoap is: a constantly-updated directory of interesting blogs, links, and news-stories. Readers can even suggest stories to help. Yay! ^_^ Every time I visit Whitesoap, I see that little pink animal pictured above (rabbit?) saying, “DeeCee sleeps.. a-lone, 2night.” What the heck does that mean? It was like driving me crazy despite the pink animal’s cute and furry appearance. And then I was listening to my music when I heard myself sing, “D.C. sleeps alone tonight” and then it hit me. “Hey isn’t that what the pink animal says on Whitesoap?” I click on over to Whitesoap. Lo and behold, there’s the pink animal with its constant phrase floating to its left. I laugh my ass off until I begin to choke on my noodles for lunch. So it turns out the phrase is from a song by i

Sold: One Million Zunes
2007-05-29 20:40:59
Probably a bit more than a million by this time. M&C reports that one million Zunes have been sold since its release on November 14, 2006. Hooray? (Well it depends on how you feel about Zunes.) Microsoft estimated that they would reach the one million mark by June, so I guess they’re happy right now. However, I don’t think that one million Zunes are necessarily in someone’s hands. A portion of that million are most likely still on store shelves. But whatever. If franchise owners are willing to buy the Zune for their stores then they must have some sort of calculation that made the Zune a good deal. So what digital music player do you like or own? Was it good? or crappy? Thoughts in the comments! microsoft, one million, zune

BlogCatalog Bloggers for Good Fundraising Challenge
2007-05-28 16:57:43
This Memorial Day (in the USA) celebrate the past and invest into the future. Give back to the community by visiting DonorsChoose.org and funding a project. DonorsChoose.org is a website created by teachers at a Bronx public high school back in 2000. Their mission is to provide funding and materials to classrooms that need it. However, the thing that singles out DonorsChoose.org from other similar websites is the way it carries out its mission. Instead of limiting a donor’s choice to one cause, DonorsChoose.org gathers many requests by educators all over America and lets the donor choose to fund whichever project they feel will be best. Of course, donations big or small are accepted and project requests must pass eligibility requirements, so donors know they’re not being scammed. So if you have a bit of time, hop on over to DonorsChoose.org and help out. I promise you’ll at least have that warm and fuzzy feeling inside you after you donate. Help Public School Kids

Google-Feedburner Deal Confirmed
2007-06-02 18:28:26
Remember my earlier post on how a rumor about Google buying Feedburner was circulating around? Well that rumor is now officially a fact. (truemor?) Yesterday, the Google Blog published a post on their official acquisition of Feedburner as did the folks over at the Feedburner blog. Google’s reason for acquiring Feedburner: …we’re constantly looking for ways to identify and offer new tools for content creators and website publishers. Likewise, we constantly aim to give AdWords advertisers broader distribution to an even wider audience of users. For these reasons, we’re very pleased to tell you that we’ve just acquired FeedBurner. “Aiming to give Adwords advertisers broader distribution” will mean ads in our feeds which was anticipated so no surprise there. Though the price tag for this deal was not mentioned in the post, TechCrunch’s source says $100 million. Fortunately, they’re not planning to change any Feedburner features as of t
