We've been gardening! 2008-04-08 08:20:00 Oh the weather was so nice yesterday! So after some work, Mum, Gracie, Wiggy and I got in a little gardening
.Mum trimmed up the Peonies and staked them, so we wouldn't destroy them when we get the zoomies. Gracie had to get in there and help out! Then Mum worked her way down the fence to trim up the Sage that she didn't trim last Fall. But Wiggy was taking over the Sage, lying in it, rolling in it, smelling it, you'd think it was Catnip or something! I don't know if you knew this, but Catnip is from the mint family and so is Sage - guess that's why he liked it so much. Mum has tried to grow Catnip in our yard, but the minute it gets about 1/2" tall, Wiggy eats it. Mum tried to put chicken wire around it until it grew, but Wiggy just tore up the chicken wire to get to the darn stuff. Goofy c
Digital SLR's and vid cameras for agility! 2008-04-07 15:54:00 Lately I've been talking with a lot of my agility buds about what is the best digital SLR and the best camcorder or video camera for agility - to record those wonderful, amazing, horrific, embarrassing, and spectacular moments.I've received a few opinions! So I've been working on a Squidoo lens on the topic, in the hopes it can eventually provide a nice resource for agility enthusiasts (and flyball, disc dog, and all kinds of dog activities). But I need your help. I've added in the cameras and accessories that I'd sure like to have (I do have one of them). And would love to hear your opinion on what camera you use or would love to have, what lenses, what filters, what bags, etc., so I can add them to the lens.If you have any ideas, leave your comments and let me know what you'd like to see! Back from the trial! 2008-04-07 08:51:00 We are back from the trial! A little tired but feeling pretty good. Can you say, 'Double DQ'!This is me with my loot from the trial. Got four Q ribbons, two DQ ribbons and a gift for each Q - so Mum got me and Gracie a few toys and a new travel food/water bowl! Our drive over on Saturday morning was kind of a knuckle biter. There was an amazing amount of fog, nearly the entire three hour drive. Kind of scary for Mum, but we made it without too much stress. It took us a little longer to get there, but we got there in plenty of time to run.Overall my runs were kind of slow. My first run was good, but the rest just weren't up to where I was running last fall. But we'll get there - it's probably gonna take some time for me to get back where I was after my injury. My first run (Standard) was at a

Weave poles? 2008-04-09 05:35:00 Look! Weave
poles! No they aren't really, these are security bollards. Those removable and collapsible vehicle access control bollards to help secure your restricted access areas. You see them at parks, stadiums, construction areas and the like.Just as we saw these at the park the other day, we got to thinking about all the different things people make weave poles out of. We have a nice set of weaves that we got a couple of years ago.But when Gracie and I both started out we used PVC pipe with the channel method. First Mum stuck them in the ground, but they left huge hole that I could get my toesies stuck in. So our trainer gave us the idea to get those really small round tall pole markers form the garden store, stick those in the ground and then put the PVC over them. That way we could move

Stuff! 2008-04-12 08:28:00 Mum got me all nervous yesterday! She was gone all day at a meeting in Louisville, which is about 2.5 hours away from where we live. While she was gone our wonderful neighbor came over and let me and Gracie outside to do our business in the early afternoon, and then came over later in the early evening to give us our dinner. This was a big day for both me and Mum. It was the very first time that anyone has taken care of me, other than my Mum, since Mum had to board me when she went to Las Vegas back in November 2006, and I ended up with a broken toe at the boarding facility. And I did well! (So did Mum). The first time our neighbor came over to let us outside, I was totally confused. I thought my Mum was in the house! So our neighbor let me back inside and I searched the entire house looking
Video of my run last weekend! 2008-04-12 06:40:00 Last weekend was my first trial back since my injury in January. Mum didn't get a vid of my first run (technical issues). So we ordered the vid and we got it today! I was kind of slow last weekend, guess I have to adjust to trialling after being away for so long. But, this was our best run of the weekend, and we're pretty proud of it. 8th place out of 37 16" pups. Enjoy!Hope you don't need a magnifier to see my black dog self on that black dirt!

Pet First
Aid AwarenessMonth
!Taking care of us pups is a big responsibility. Just ask my Mum! We've had some times together that I was so glad that my Mum knew what do to in an emergency. And we've had some friends that had some emergencies of their own. From Gracie eating something that she shouldn't, to our good friend Tish helping her pup live through a very scary choking incident, to pup friends with cut pads, to me getting stung on the nose by a bee, and much more - we knew what to do because we boned up on some basic first aid techniques. And we encourage every pup owner to learn what to do in an emergency! Here are some resources you'll want to keep on hand, read and study:Take a pet first aid course from the American Red Cross - find a class near you!Keep this Read more:First Aid
It's National Pet ID Week! 2008-04-14 11:31:00 This week is National
Pet ID Week! See me, I'm wearing my tags. This week is a great time to check your pet's id tag and make sure all the information is up-to-date. We do this every year.A few times in the past year, Mum and I have found dogs wandering around our neighborhood. Mum and I immediately get in the car with a bag of treats and try to catch them, in hopes that we can help them find their way home. The nice thing is that all of these pups had tags. So Mum called the numbers and were able to get the pups home in just about an hour! We've been able to do it quite a few times, and we have to say the pups were grateful and so were their owners.Having a tag or microchip for your pup is soooo important. What if, heaven forbid, that they would get lost, one day. It's so much easier for th
Web designing frustration! 2008-04-14 11:00:00 Mum is getting frustrated! She wants to redo my main website - JohannTheDog.com, but is pretty clueless about web design and website building. Yes, she made my current website - but she did it in FrontPage, which is kind of easy. But it's not optimized or structured correctly. And she wants to give it a new look. She downloaded the free trial of the new Dreamweaver CS3, and has been tinkering (tinkering too much IMHO!) with it. Every time she gets in there she starts making all these grunting, frustrating sounds. Makes me nervous!!!!So today she is going to talk with a website designer who can maybe get her started with a template or something that she can build on from there. She likes the new Dreamweaver because it's more WYSIWYG like (she needs lots of help like that). She's also spending
Million Dog Mosaic! 2008-04-14 08:52:00 Have you seen this? It's the Million Dog Mosaic
!Here's your dog's chance to help Pedigree help dogs. They will make a $1 donation to The PedigreeĀ® Adoption Drive for every dog photo that's uploaded to the mosaic. You can upload your favorite dog photo and then they will send you a search code, so you can see your pup's photo in the mosaic.Even though we aren't a big fan of Pedigree food, they do a nice job in helping shelters and rescues all over the US through their adoption programs, share food programs and more.
Remembering your loved one! 2008-04-14 08:37:00 We came across a great site today that has all kinds of outdoor decor. What really caught our eye was their Angel Cat and Angel Dog markers for your yard. This marker would be a wonderful way to remember your pup who has passed to the Rainbow Bridge, or to provide as a gift to a family who has a recently departed loved
one. We thought about our good friend, Saba, when we saw these markers. The site also has really nice mailboxes, address plaques, garden hose holders, personalized doormats and other great exterior decor.

Run free dear Paw Paw! 2008-04-16 05:54:00 We are very sad to hear that Martha Stewart's beloved Paw Paw has crossed to the rainbow bridge. Run free dear Paw Paw!Here's is a portion of Martha's tribute...As many of you know, my beloved dog, Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow, was not feeling well in recent weeks and I am very heart-broken to announce his passing last Saturday, April 12, 2008 as he was approaching his 13th year. Paw Paw was a spectacular chow and an even more spectacular dog. He was always my loyal companion, displaying the most agreeable temperament.Paw Paw loved traveling with me and was always a willing model for the camera. In addition to taking part in television commercials and several national print ads, he has been part of numerous photo shoots and is a familiar face on my television show, in my magazine,
Fun day! 2008-04-15 18:02:00 We had a pawsome day today! We got up really early this morning and Mum finished our monthly newsletter and sent it out to everyone. We really enjoy putting it together. Below is Gracie's joke of the day! Then Mum finished up our taxes and got them ready for the mail, whew, just in time! We took a quick power nap and then headed out to the post office. On the way back, we stopped at the pet store to pick up some cat litter, and got to get loved on by all the pet store employees, scarf up some treats off the floor and explore all the cool smells. And we got to do some tricks to show off. That was fun 'cause we got lots of treats for that. Then Mum had a big surprise for us. Since it is such a beautiful weather day, we headed down to the park near the river and took a long hike in the woods. Dog Read more:Fun day
Zoing! 2008-04-15 16:52:00 Now here's a toy I think both Gracie and I could get into! It's called the Zoing, from Ruff Wear. The Zoing is a stretchy tubular webbing assembly that provides tugging resistance with a Lunker⢠attached to one end. Tie it to a tree and let the dog do the rest, but the harder they pull the harder the Zoing pulls back! It's an all day game of tug of war for your dog!
A great gift idea! 2008-04-15 16:33:00 Now this sounds like fun! Mum and I are fairly adventurous - she's gone up in hot air balloons, we've both gone canoing together, and we love hiking. We came across this site today that specializes in unique gift giving. They say they believe gifts should be given, received and above all else experienced. Sounds like a great philosophy to me!The company has a wide variety of interesting and exciting activities, ranging from Helicopter Tours, culinary classes, dinner cruises, America's Cup sailing tours, and even car racing experiences. We will definitely keep this site in mind for either a unique gift, or a fun time for us the next time we're on vacation! Very cool.
There's much more to see from Gin (and Kate)! 2008-04-17 17:39:00 Leave it to a British tabloids to find out the real scoop on Gin and Kate! Read the full article from The Sun!Kate Nicolas and Gin performed on Britain's Got Talent, last Saturday night and wowed Simon and Piers, the audience, and the 10.6 million viewers with their amazing musical freestyle talent. Check out my previous post with a video of their performance!Seems Kate, who is only 16, by the way, has had a rough go of it with classmates who just didn't understand her relationship with Gin, even to the point of making fun of her!Now Kate is probably the most popular girl at school, and this shy girl is coming out of her shell. The teenager from Whitchurch, Shropshire, left school last year after completing her GCSEs. She is now at college studying for a national diploma in animal manageme

Tomorrow is International Guide Dog Day! 2008-04-17 05:03:00 International Guide
Dog Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the wonderful work of Guide Dogs throughout the world and the enormous difference they make in the lives of their vision impaired companions. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of how community members can support the work of Guide Dogs. The work they do and sacrifices they make for two-leggers is amazing, and incredibly admirable. Two-leggers who cannot see wouldn't be able to have an independent life without them. We thank and salute all the past, present and future guide dogs of the World - where would we be without you. Here's a very informative video about Guide Dogs!According to Wikipedia:Guide dogs are assistance dogs trained to lead blind or vision impaired people around obstacles. Earthquake! 2008-04-18 15:37:00 We had an earthquake and and aftershocks here in Indiana today. The main quake hit just before 5:37 a.m. EST and was centered six miles from West Salem, Ill. That's about 190 miles from where we live.We usually get up at 5:00 AM, but we slept in until about 5:45 AM this morning. Mum didn't feel a thing during the quake; and I, nor Gracie or the kitties, made any fuss. So we didn't know anything happened. We worked until about 11:00 or so, Mum had a really long conference call this morning and was exhausted. So after her call we took a little power nap in bed with Mum. Just a few minutes after we all settled in, the bed started shaking and shaking.Mum looked around, 'cause she thought Gracie or the kitties had jumped up on the bed and all of us where running around, but all she saw was me Read more:Earthquake
More hiking! 2008-04-18 11:59:00 It's so great having nice weather again. Mum loves it, I love it, Gracie loves it - so we went hiking again, yesterday. And we got to experience something new. We rode in the back seat of the Rover! Mum never lets us do this, but the park where we started our hike is only about 1/2 mile away from home, and there is very little traffic. Mum drove 20 miles an hour on the road to get there, because she was nervous about us being loose in the car, she is so funny! We got there and left the Rover parked in the lot. Mum put on her hiking shoes and then ventured down the path to the river. It's the White River.According to Wikipedia: The White River is a two-forked river that flows through central and southern Indiana and is the main tributary to the Wabash River. The west fork is the longest fork

Agility practice on Wednesday! 2008-04-18 06:04:00 The weather this week has been just amazing! 70s and sunny. 'Bout time!So what did we do? On Wednesday
, we went to agility practice at our trainers house in the country. It was kind of windy at the start of our practice so we kept off the dog walk.Gracie started first and worked on some serpentines, and a kind of nasty weave entrance. She did pretty well. She was even in the jumpers ring, which we don't practice in very much and it can be kind of a distraction, but Mum was happy with her enthusiasm, attention, and focus.Gracie and Mum worked on a longer sequence with Gracie, and Mum was super happy she focused on the entire run, even with weaves at the end (which she made by the way). Good girl, Gracie!Gracie only worked about 15 minutes of our hour private. Because our trainer wanted me t
All kinds of dogs for all kinds of people! 2008-04-18 05:33:00 I love dogs, and so does my Mum and my sis, Gracie. Even Wiggy, my kittie bro, kind of likes dogs, within reason of course.Mum's preference are herding breeds. Why? Because she loves the wacky, crazy, wild side of us herders. It kind of fits with Mum's personality, which says a lot, BOL!But some of our friends prefer other dog breeds , for a wide variety of reasons and we totally respect that. Some of our friends like Beagles, some like Lurchers, some like Dalmations, some like German Shepherds. And for those that have a mixed taste, there are even mixed breeds of us pups. Thankfully, there is any type of dog for any type of person.Mum admits it. She didn't do a lot of research into the different types of breeds that would be suitable for her lifestyle before she adopted me. Bad Mum! All s Read more:people
I'm a MAD dog! 2008-04-19 18:28:00 Woo, hoo! I got my Masters Agility Dog title today with a pretty nice Standard run and Third Place! All my other runs pretty much stunk, but I pulled it out for the one we needed...more trial tomorrow, more info to come then. We're beat!
