What's Up With That? Vol. 2: Clicks
2007-03-08 17:08:53
A publisher wrote in a couple weeks ago and asked, "Your click count and Google Analytics' click count are way off. What's up with that?" And lo, another "What's up with that?" post was born. Welcome to What's Up With That Volume 2: Clicks . Publishers who are interested in measuring audience engagement through their feed often turn on our clickthrough tracking service (StandardStats users, click "StandardStats" and check the box marked "Item link clicks"; TotalStats users do the same under "TotalStats"). When this service is enabled, we rewrite the clickthrough link so that the initial click request goes through ours servers; we log the request and then forward the browser on to your site. Publishers with access to advanced web analytics products (Google Analytics, Omniture, to name a few) often have the ability to measure clickthroughs as well, albeit through a different mechanism: these services use the addition of a parameter at the end of the URL - something like www.blog.com

Headline Animator Overhaul, Part Three and One-Eighth
2007-03-07 05:47:20
Faithful readers are most likely aware of the minutiae that concern us here at FeedBurner inter-agency headquarters, especially when it comes to new features and notable drama such as "We're running low on decaf and 2% milk. OMG!" Today's enhancement to Headline Animator , the FeedBurner service engaged in a renovation comparable to the Dan Ryan expressway reconstruction project (minus the many reflector barrels), is all about expanding the reach of your content and making things look how you want them to look. Place Your Content in More Places, Easily It has been suggested by considerably more than seven of you that we should offer new capabilities to help grow your audience, and that's exactly what we're committed to doing with Headline Animator. It now features step-by-step instructions for placing your content on your MySpace page, a TypePad, Blogger or WordPress.com blog, a bunch of email programs, and "Other," a category we reserve for those interesting places whose names a

UTW plugin acting funny
2007-05-03 12:51:59
Anyone who subscribes to my feed may notice old posts being updated. It is because I need to re-tag everything. I decided to completely start over with the UTW plugin to see if it would fix the problems I have been having with my tags. I actually deleted the tables that UTW makes along with some other entries that I noticed in one of the WordPress tables. UTW Tables I deleted were: wp_tags wp_post2tag wp_tag_synonyms Sicne I had exported the tags to custom fields in WordPress, I had to delete those entries which resided in the “wp_postmeta” table. So, cross your fingers and wish me luck. Here we go…. I really hope this fixes everything. Cluttered Thoughts

Cleaning out WordPress Categories
2007-05-02 04:18:29
I have been trying to organize my categories in WordPress a little better so that you can find things easier and so I have less trouble trying to figure out which ones to use when I write new posts. I originally started using my name (Jason Stone) as a category, thinking that it would help me rank higher for my name. At first, it worked. I used to be on the first page when you would type “Jason Stone”. I think Google’s filter decided it didn’t like that idea because my rank dropped to 99. The other categories I deleted were: Web Server Hot Funny Blogging If you have trouble trying to find something, try looking in “Cluttered Thoughts” I Added the “Cluttered Thoughts” for when I am in a hurry or if I post some random stuff that doesn’t relate to my main topics. I have also added the “Coding” category to organize articles that contain full scripts or source code snippets in any coding language that I end up needing to us

Geeks do not have slow computers!
2007-04-26 12:36:45
I used to pride myself on having one of the fastest computers of its time. For you fellow geeks out there…I will tell you the stats of my computer in a second. I used to always compete with a neighbor (actually 2 neighbors), about who had the faster computer. Of course, at the time, it really depended on who had the parent with more money. But we never thought of it that way. Honestly, we thought that we were competing 1 on 1 on 1 with each other where we all had an even slate. Of course, after a while, 1 of us so-called geeks fell out of the race. But we didn’t realize until years had passed that the only geeks that we were competing with, were ourselves. Anyways, back to the story… I can imagine that most geeks had some sort of competition as they grew up. To us, it was sort of a superiority complex that we all had to get over. If you have yet to get over it, then I feel sorry for you and your lack of friends. (more…) Cluttered Thoughts, Computer, Hardw

Backup DacEasy data automatically for multiple companies Part 2
2007-04-16 18:22:10
After my post “Backup DacEasy data automatically for multiple companies” I realized that we ended up buying a new backup program, but since I promised you an easy way to run Backup for DacEasy data automatically for multiple companies, I will try my best to deliver just that; without telling you to go out and buy a newbackup program. Let’s see if I can keep my promise! The following requirements are listed only because I have not tested it on any other systems or versions. The requirements are DacEasy 13 and Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server. This solution should work if people are logged in to DacEasy, but to be safe, I recommend that anyone using DacEasy be logged off while you run this backup. You will of course need to have DacEasy installed. I am assuming that your DacEasy directory is: “C:DacEasy” If this NOT correct, please adjust the path to match your installation directory.
