Spammers come to Sticky End - Project Honey Pot 2007-04-30 21:53:00 Project Honey Pot tracks and identfies spammers who harvest email addresses from web pages and publishes the results on their site.. They do this by collating data received by multiple decoy web pages. To be truly effective the more information they can gather the better. We can all help with the project in a number of ways. If you do not have access to your server (as is the case with hosted blogs such as Blogger) you can help by including a link on your blog; which will cause spammers to get 'caught in the honey pot' (the link is invisible to legitimate readers) If you host your site on your own server and have access to its configuration you can help by either or both of these methods: Uploading a 'honey pot' to your site (a script that is generated for you on the project site) and including invisible links on your web pages. Donating a domain or subdomain. All email traffic to this site is redirected to Project Honey Pot. I can have unlimited domains and subdomai Read more:Project

Blaugh 2007-04-21 01:46:00 Blaugh calls itself the (Un)official comic of the blogosphere. As an individual's humor varies I will leave it to you to check out and decide if you would like to include it in your blog.It is very simple to add by copying the coding given on the site although you will likely need to alter the size to suit its location on your blog. For a sidebar, for example, you may want it to be width="210" height="116. Your blog editor will probably let you select the image, and hold the shift key (to keep the image in the correct proportions) while dragging the image to the size you choose.Tags:Fun-Stuff, Blog Tools Sueblimely
Betiquette 2007-04-20 08:50:00 Betiquette ( Blog Etiquette)Well, the word Netiquette is accepted (I know because my spell checker does not decorate it with a wavy red line) so why not Betiquette??I can summarize my own "Betiquette" by saying "be a considerate blogger":• Respect your reader• Respect other bloggers• Don't neglect the other sort of people (those who live in your house, those you work with, those that call you a relation, friend etc)Particular areas:I am sure others could add many more points to this list so please feel free add a comment to this post or email me; letting me know if you think I have missed anything out. I am writing this on the fly so it is likely that I have. Many of these points are not only relevant to behaviour but will also pay dividends in attracting and maintaining readers.Your readers:Respond to what you readers seem to find the most interesting by creating more posts of a similar nature or topic. This does not mean you have to neglect other areas especially if you are
Online Presentation Tools Useful for Bloggers 2007-04-18 04:09:00 I talked about Spresent in my last post. Altruistic Link Love Update 2007-04-08 03:20:00 I have only had two kind souls who have taken me up on my challenge to display an image link on their blogs to their favorite cause/charity. I thought I should post a reminder:I have some favorite causes/charities that I like to support. It occurred to me that it may be worthwhile giving some free advertising to them on this blog. It is so easy to do and potentially very worthwhile.I challenge other blogs to do the same.I will publish links to the first 20 blogs that contact me (via comments here) who show their altruism by creating an image link on their blogs to their favorite cause or causes. A permanent is preferred rather than just in a posting.I have started the ball rolling here by adding a linked image to a major fundraising drive by the FRAXA Research Foundation who, if they can raise $500,000 in new donations by the end of October, will have another $500,000 donated by Doris Buffett's Sunshine Lady Foundation.FRAXA's mission is to accelerate progress toward effective tre Read more:Update

Google Blog Bar Update - now searches a selected blog 2007-03-31 18:07:00 Google AJAX Search API Blog: Blog Bar Update
The blog bar, displayed directly below the top menu on this page, has been set to search a number of keywords that I thought were relevant to the contents of this blog. This tool has been very popular and, based on feedback, Google have updated the bar so that you can program it to search only over a selected blog. This would be useful if you wanted to display posts from your own blog.Filed in: Google sueblimely Read more:Google
E-Mail Icon Generator 2007-03-31 17:37:00 One way to display your email address securely on your blog is to image rather than text. E-Mail Icon Generator
is an online tool for creating such an image. Remember though that if you really want this to be secure do not attach a link to your email address to the image - if you do your address will still be readable from the page source code. This particular tool creates icons for GMail, Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo!, AOL and many others. Altruistic Link Love - Six Degrees 2007-03-30 11:07:00 You've probably heard of the Six Degrees
concept. Any one person (including me, Kevin Bacon) is connected to any other person through six or fewer relationships, because it's a small world.www.SixDegrees.org is about using this idea to accomplish something good. It's social networking with a social conscience. Through this web site, you can learn about and support the charities of celebrities and your friends, as well as fundraise for the causes close to your heart. I received this email today from Kevin Bacon (Ok it was a mass mail out to all members of 6 degrees but I thought it may catch your attention.)Hi Sueblimely,I’m Kevin Bacon and I’d like to introduce you to Six Degrees
, a program which makes it easy for you to raise awareness and support for a charity that’s important to you. It is my hope that Six Degrees will soon be a force for good, by bringing a social conscience to social networking. I’d love you to be part of this important effort. Since its launch in late

Add eBay ads to your blog using AuctionAds 2007-03-28 19:51:00 I have avoided putting examples of ads on my blog so far as there are plenty of sites that talk about monetizing your blog. Being a real fan of eBay (I love any chance of a bargain) I am making an exception.AuctionAds
provide a way of tapping into the eBay affiliate program - by displaying eBay ads on your web site. You earn commission when links clicked from your site result in a Winning Bid, a Buy-it-Now purchase or a confirmed user registration. Ads are customized to your site content and are country specific - e.g. ads on my site will be from eBay Australia.AuctionAds Reached 5,000 Publishers within the first week of launching. You can read more about it on the AuctionAds Blog.To get an AuctionAds account? - Sign Up Here!Filed in: Monetize, Blog Ads,sueblimely
Google AJAX Search Tools 2007-03-25 20:17:00 Google has recently introduced some clever search tools that you can use on your blogs. All of these searches can be customised to your own choice of subjects.I have shown an example of the blog search bar (horizontal) at the top of this page. It is much like the one that appears towards the top of the gmail window. In view of my aim to not slow this page down with too much coding - especially that on external sites, I have created separate pages to show you examples of this coding in action:Google Blog Bar (Vertical) - lets you embed a dynamic Google Blog bar in your web pages. ExampleGoogle Book Bar - books are shown with their images based on the search criteria you chose. ExampleGoogle Map Search
- a small Google Map image is portrayed zoomed into the place of your choice. The map is navigable, with scrolling functions. ExampleGoogle Video Bar - displays a horizontal or vertical bar of images of the category you chose when setting up the coding via the wizard. ExampleGoogle Video Read more:AJAX

Geo Visitors 2007-03-16 11:03:00 I am a real fan of Google Maps and Google Earth, often going on virtual travels around the world. Maybe it somehow scratches a life long travel itch in me? When I found the Geo Visitors
tool I immediately decided to add it. Being just an link image it is unobtrusive and quick loading. What it does:Click on the image link which you install on your site and you are taken to the Geo-Visitors site. A google map shows icons for the locations of your site visitors for the last 24 hours. How to do it:Simply add the code from the Digital Point Studios site Geo Visitors page which creates this:When added to your own site, your site statistics are shown of course - not mine!Categories: blog-toolssueblimely sueblimely

del.icio.us tools for bloggers 2007-05-06 01:50:00 I have tried many bookmarking services but still prefer del.icio.us for the way I can organise my bookmarks into categories and the way you can tag and categorise with remote tools such as browser bookmarklets and bookmarking scripts. I use onlywire to add bookmarks to my remote bookmarking sites and it is only in del.icio.us that they are automatically assigned to their correct tags.Other tools are offered by del.icio.us too as you can see below: The l'Link Roll' script below is using the actual script but the ones following are just image links to the scripted examples on my web site. iwebis - BlogCatalog Buzz Experiment 2007-05-09 02:06:00 I originally submitted my site to Blogcatalog when I first started blogging but did not revisit, as it seemed only a run of the mill submission and search site. With recent 'social networking' changes and a makeover it has become, for me, a contender with MyBlogLog - with regard to the amount of traffic from the site and the number of contacts that have added me. This is early days too, with membership levels on the rise; many people not yet knowing about the changes.iwebis has a explanation of the new features as well as running an experiment to increase awareness of BlogCatalog. It is asking members to post a "BlogCatalog Community Mass Buzz" post 0n Monday May 14th . Post about what you like about BlogCatalog and link to your blog detail or profile page. Increase Traffic to your Blog - Part 1 2007-05-15 07:39:00 I cannot start a series about this topic without stressing that whatever methods you use to increase traffic, none will be truly effective if the content and presentation of your blog is not compelling enough to bring people back. This is a whole topic in itself and I will cover this in more detail later. You could spend so much time attempting to get your blog known that it detracts from the time you have to post articles, which is self defeating. I know I have been guilty of this. I suppose in my case it is one of the research topics I have been following so without it I probably would not have been able to write this series. (I have justified not following my own advise so feel better now.)So where do you start?Work out your individual needsBefore you throw your efforts into methods for increasing your readership save yourself time in the long run by doing some planning and thinking about: Why do you want to increase traffic? This will influence what methods you use. For example, is
I got tagged - What are my 5 goals? 2007-05-18 01:52:00 I have been tagged by Sharon writer of Ghosts in the Machine, a blog I enjoy. Her site explores "digital identity, privacy and knowledge management". Please take a look at my prior post to see why I take up such a challenge. What are my 5 goals? In chronological order (I am a bit liberal with the timing of these)Age 3 - kicking rolled up sock down the stairs in between 'clothes horse' goal posts.Age 5 - throwing ball from top of the back garden air-raid shelter into bucket. Those air raid shelters were so solid they were made use of for many years after their vital role in the war.Age 6 - on the side lines of Hull KR rugby league field where I liked to mimic the players while accompanying dad on his St John Ambulance duty.Primary School - Netball goal. Being female we were excluded from other sports and at recess boys had to play one end of the school and girls the other.Grammar School - Hockey Goal - I shudder at the thought of the cold English winter days and hidden agendas of t
