I hate customer service. I hate scripts that they follow, I hate the fact that they are too oblivious to see a problem when explained. It can make one understand why there are people who go on shooting sprees. The Transcript: 2:05 PM Taylor: Hello, Andrei. Can I help you with anything today? 2:04 PM Andrei: Paid for 2nd day air on order #11881. Tracking says it's shipping as ground. 2:05 PM Taylor: Ok. 2:05 PM Andrei: Don't know if I will receive it in time for when I need it. Also confused as to what happened for the money I paid for 2nd day air shipping. 2:05 PM Andrei: $22.08 to pay for ground seems very wrong 2:06 PM Taylor: I would suggest sending an email about the money that you paid with this link: 2:06 PM Taylor: http://www.ourcompany.com/contact_us.php 2:06 PM Taylor: I will look at your order for you. 2:06 PM Andrei: Thank

The level of stupidity in the business world...
2006-10-10 15:10:18
I have a phone line for my Apolo Productions work. The phone is listed as "Apolo Productions."I get constant calls from Vendors that want me to lease credit card machines. I also get calls from agencies who want to list us.So far this has got to be one of the stupidest script bound callers I have ever received:AP: Me on the phone as Apolo ProductionsCA: CallerPhone: (Ring)AP: "Apolo Productions..."CA:" Hi this is Info...USA. Have we reached the business, 'Apolo Productions?'"AP: "That'd be why we answer the phone Apolo Productions" (smiling chuckle)CA: "And is it that you're located in Sunomish... Washington?"AP: "Yes we are...may I ask who you are and why you're asking these questions?"CA: "Sure. This is Info...USA. We provide information for online search engines. 80's Silly Acts
2006-10-08 23:26:03
Last week I asked people to list the top 5 silly acts of the 1980'sThere was a little confusion between group and act. I also don't think people got the idea of ranking them #1 most silly, #5: 5th most silly. But none the less I got 80 votes. The ranking went as such:For each vote you got a pointThen for each #1 you got 5 pts, #2 you got 4 pts, etc...Below the cut are the 19/32 silliest acts (acts that got at least 2 votes, or 1 "most silly")In the comment field, I'd love to hear what people think of the ranking and if they'd like to see this expanded a bit.But first, the acts that were considered Silly , but not silly enough to make the top 32:A-Ha, ABC, B-52's, Baltimora, Bananarma, Beastie Boys, Cameo, Cinderella, Dead Milkmen, Depeche Mode, Doctor & The Medics, Duran Duran, El Debarge, Elmo & Patsie, Europe, Eurythmics, The, Family, The, Flirts, Debbie Gibson, Glass Tiger, Go-Go's, Haircut 100, Jefferson Starship, Jets, The, Kix, Kool Moe Dee, Cyndi Lauper,Huey Lewis & The News

Glad to see this coming around again

Something less serious... The 80's were silly
2006-10-01 19:55:59
In the 80's I paid my way thru college (or more properly earned a couple of bucks on the side) as a professional DJ playing "Top 40" music with an Urban emphasis. What this means is that I know "Buffalo Dance" and "Cherry Pie" by heart whether I want to or not.I found myself listening to one of my compilation discs last night on the 'drive home.'I realized... You know this stuff was big and popular.. I really loved some of these songs... but in retrospect... They're really silly. The whole group was just, really... silly. So, I'm curious... It's a top 5 list. What are the 5 acts of the 80s that you liked, loved, knew were popular... but... 15-25 years later... Wow. What were they thinking. What were we thinking?!?!Results.. next week :)View Poll: Top 5 80's act that you loved, but in retrospect...they're really silly

Political thought followup

I mentioned in the previous post that our government has perfected the polarizing bi-partisan activity of 'us' vs. 'them. In the 2000 elections I was told how someone slapped a friend of mine in his house because she disagreed with his politics. In the 2004 elections I read countless stories of election motivated violence. If this feeling of us vs. them continues... if we poliarize this nation perfectly down the center. 50% of us hating and mistrusting 50% of us. If the violence keeps building... Now, for those of you who may have taken a history class. Do the words, "Civil War" make sense?Because sooner or later it will only take one event. That's how these things begin. Let's stop talking about Black and White. Let's go back to thinking for ourselves.

My political opinion
2006-09-29 18:55:16
In the past few months our government has passed laws along the following linesWarrant-less WiretappingArrest without due processState laws making talking about specific topic on the internet a felonyMy issue is not with any one individual law but with an idea. You remember ideas? We are told to remember the idea, not the man, because a man can fail. He can be caught, he can be killed and forgotten, but 400 years later, an idea can still change the world. I've witnessed first hand the power of ideas, I've seen people kill in the name of them, and die defending them...There was an idea in the founding of this country that"One is innocent until proven guilty"Personally, we as a nation have given leave to our govenment to say,"We no longer trust innocence."Our litiginous society is now eager to find and prove guilt. So much so, that we will pick away at the only wholes some people have to prove said innocence.Everyday, I see pop up windows that ask the question, "Do you trust Bush?"... I

Bitacle Debacle, Part II
2006-09-24 18:50:53
As pointed out last night, the new player in this little town we call the internet is Bitacle.Bitacle is aggregating content and serving it with advertising. The problem is... they aren't asking anyone if the content is allowed to be served for a commercial purpose. How does this differ from YouTube, Kazaa, Limewire...etc?In those cases, people are simply taking owned content and using it. There isn't any advertising. Now... if youtube starts generating huge amounts of income... that will change the playing field. Effectively, what Bitacle is doing is going into a movie theatre, filming the movie in perfect digital quality, and then selling the copy. They go even further by stating that they hold the copyright on the material.Copyright is one of these 'implied' things. You do have it, but it does help to state it. If you are reading this on a self styled 'friends' page you will see the content in your self styled format. On the other hand, if you're viewing it on my journal, or o

Bitacle Debacle
2006-09-24 08:15:35
It's been discovered that bitacle.org has been stealing the entire content of some blogs, repackaging it, crediting it as their own, relicensing it under Creative Commons and offering it on their own site which is filled with adverts. This is a method of banning these idiots.read more | digg storyI went to the bitacle site to discover that the site refuses to load now. Aparently within 24 hours they have taken so much flack that they've either taken the service down or been hit by an uncontrollable wave of Denial of Service attacks.Personally, I'd have liked to see if my content was on there. I actually have the creative content license on my journal page. My license says that the contents may be used but NOT for commercial purposes.Translation: If they are using advertising with my content, it is in direct violation of stated copyright. I am pretty sure I can sue for damages. :-D

has already posted but I'm gonna add in to the elation.Intimate Fire had its first public ritual tonight at Moonflower Magicks. A fantastic Occult store in Everett Washington.up on the IF siteSister N. Brought coloured candles for the elements, a central altar table, Port, and wonderful honey bread for eucharist. I supplied Apple Juice (for those who did not will to take alcohol), SJ supplied the talismans (beautiful little glass stones with one of the numbers 0-21 on them)We were expecting about 4-5 people.... 16 showed. Everyone enjoyed, participated, asked questions, took communion. It was fantastic. One of the new people who'd never heard of Thelema, OTO, or Intimate Fire offered to read the role of Thoth and was awesome.N.E. Puget Sound has a definite Pagan community and all of the attendees asked if we'd be doing more.Oh, yes, the 19 day old boy for his second ritual... was perfectly behaved. He's 2 for 2.The real test for him is tomorrow :)happy bouncy Proto-Master of CIF. Y

I admit to being a Weird Al fan. I think he is an amazingly talented satirist. Most people only recognize him for his song parodies. Eat it, Yoda, and Saga Begins come to mind.Personally, I am a huge fan of his Style Parodies. These are original songs that just happen to sound like "A doo wop song" or "The B-52s" or "Devo" without satirizing any one song. His newest album is due to hit the streets in just over a week. From what I've heard on it so far... it may be his best to date.I discovered this last night when embed ded the video for "White and Nerdy" (Lyrics here, should pop up in a different window){Spoilers behind a cut at the end of this post}But this isn't what brings me to post today. Oh, no no no no no.In probably the most vicious thing he's written since "One More Minute" or "You Don't Love Me Anymore", Al has made a statement about the music industry in "Don't Download This Song"The song is unbelievably powerful on its own. Style, lyrics, music. But that just wasn't en

Why yes, I'm stuck on a Muscial. As a director you pick things apart. In a strange way it's almost like trying to craft the perfect ceremonial ritual. Making sure that every word and phrase is intentional. Finding new life every time you look at a script. There are times that I wish I had a far better instrument to work with. I consider myself a passable singer, adequate drummer, and overacting ham on stage. I love to be out there, I love to sing along to musicals, and give me a drum circle any night. But I will honestly not feel like any great shakes out there. The reason I feel this way is because I have faith in my senses. I often feel that I can spot talent a mile off. One of my dearest and closest friends in college I picked out of a 'group of extras' in a children's production while doing promotional work. She pulled my focus the first time I saw her and she became one of the more memorable actresses the department ever had.I can see it, I can feel it, and 9 times out of 8 I can

I hear him breathe. I wonder if it is normal breathing. I lay next to him wondering if I am doing enough...wondering if I'm not missing something obvious and important. Was that grumble to hoarse? Should I be checking him for fever? Are we over/underfeeding him? is that a bister, a rash, allergy? Will I always be strong when she needs me?I find myself impatiently waiting for the time where I'm searching for the answers to everyone of his questions. But now... I just hope I make it day to day being there when and as needed for them.As I lay down... I see myself wantimg to be 6 again. I lay in my fiberglass, racing car bed. I see my room growing up...my desk, my windows...But the safety of that time is gone... I am a little boy grown up...I hope I am doing this right.

Edit: This is the one thing that I was looking for on the original theatrical release. Theoretically, this now proves that the current theatrical release isn't the one that I saw opening weekend in L.A. That being said... a good strong search of the web has told me a few things.1) I didn't imagine this scene2) This scene was only shown in a few preview theatres before the major release... so it is understandable if its not considered part of the original widespread release3) No one has been able to post an actual copy of the scene or photos of it which means.. Even Lucas may not have it anymore. Here's what I foundEnd of recent editFrom the site: http://www.cedmagic.com/featured/star-wars-lost-footage.htmlFrom ely2b@aol.com:....An entirely different group of people seem to recall seeing Luke at the chasm throw his grappling hook and miss the first time, then throw it again before swinging across with Leia. And from the site:http://www.cedmagic.com/featured/star-wars.htmlOne persistent

DIY, the phone, the cable... and other crazy stunts....
2006-10-30 03:05:54
Tired, Punchy and my head hurtsFirst the news... Yes... it's been a week since I've posted. Work, Baby... Family... you do the math.Today was filled with a DIY project that was filled with so much promise. And met with failure. We have a room with no phone jack that direly needs one.The room has a cable jack... But we don't use the cable.I had an idea... what if I ride the phone signal on the unused cable from a room with both phone and cable to the room with just cable. I got two wall plates that each had a phone jack and a cable connector. I got a 3' long coax cable to sacrifice for connecting the back of the cable connector to the back of the phone jack. I figured I'd cut in half, strip the cut end and attach it like I was wiring a phone. I also got a little multimeter... hoping that might help. Granted I know nearly -0- about electronics (I'm a software guy)... so the multimeter was more of an amusement.I walked into the parking lot of the hardware store. Booty in hand. I was

Well, it's another halloween. I love this holiday.I still need to track down pictures for 2005's furry costume. I know we took them. Just need to find'emI seem to have gotten into a rotation of Make, Buy, FakeAs always... I should do some catch up:This is oddly the 1 yr anniversary of the Microsoft interview that didn't pan out.Also... as you read... Sunday I managed to ding myself rather bad.Interestingly, no one at work seems to want to ask. They look... they notice... But they never ask. Which was sad because my wife had two answers prepared:Her: Did you tell them that I've been beating you?Me: This? Oh.. um... The first rule is that I can't talk about it.no one asked. :(So.. now the recap for the newer readersAgain.. I love Halloween :2005: I went furry. Tiger mask, tail, fuzzy slippers. Additional information about 18 month olds

First. You need to start by reading the post by shimmeringjemmyFar too many things. As H points out.. there's just too much in a month to summarize. But things I've noticed.Aiden enjoys having his teeth brushed. He's also become adept at getting his hands on door knobs and let me tell you the climbing has swung into epic proportions. In the last month, we've stopped 'carrying' Aiden everywhere. We let him walk. He's gotten very good at holding on to our hands...or at least a finger. He tends not to wander off too often. H will often let him walk from the car in the driveway to the house and he does so fairly well on his own.At his 18 month appt instead of taking the elevator up to his pediatrician we took the stairs. The amazing thing was that Aiden was able to take the stairs without climbi
