A long day.. but- 2008-05-08 21:41:54 I must be having a good transit between communication and family. In the past week I've been contacted by 3 old Order members from L.A. that I don't chat with very often. I also got to emails that made me very happy.First - The relative the ex-actress. Many friends know that I have a somewhat distant relative who was a fairly famous child actress for about 15 years. I'd been emailing her about my genealogical research. Her letters have been pleasant... but reserved. In my last email to her I gave her a lot of research information and mentioned my great Aunt. "Aunt Fanny". Yes, I think every Jew has (or should have) one.Fan was my paternal grandmother's sister. "Great Aunt". Fan was also the first cousin to my relative's father. So she also considered her an "Aunt". Even though technically..
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: Sleep 2008-05-13 09:29:20 I normally don't get to bed until about midnight. Of late I toss and turn throughout the night. I've been able to see most hours on my clock during the night from waking up. To be honest... a good bit of waking has been from some well placed kicks from a tiny foot.Last night however, I went down hard. No clue why. For the first time in quite a long time, I slept until my alarm. This is interesting Read more:Whiskey

Spoiling the broth... 2008-05-23 15:51:27 The LiveJournal Advisory Board election is underway. It's really just started... but I think most of my readers will agree... the initial figures are not merely disturbing... they are very disappointing.I'm going to make some comments that in an election are probably damned inappropriate. They could seriously affect my chances. But then, what is LiveJournal if not a blog that affords social networ

I wish I could write for the Onion 2008-05-26 12:45:27 Please remember, I've already come out as a supporter of Barack Obama. The following post is tongue-in-cheek humour viewing the nomination process.Translation... please don't flame.I wish I were a better writer so I could flesh this out as a submission for the Onion.----It struck me today looking at some of the press on how the Clinton campaign is fairing sounded vaguely familiar. Looking up an ol
Sigh... Shields raised captain 2008-05-28 15:24:24 I have a lot of things going on in my life at the moment.I don't post about them. Unfortunately, due to a couple of issues my posting may seem... less frequent for a while.I feel the need to Re-enable Filter25 for a while. If you discover you're not seeing posts for a while, you may not be on Filter25 and I apologize. This too will pass. It's basically my way of dealing with issues for a few.Hopefu Read more:Shields

Logic in inaction 2008-05-27 15:47:59 I've been listening to some of the funnier reasons against Gay marriage. I recently heard one that just made me shake my head. The concern is that Gay couples will produce Gay children. I laugh at this because the Straight couples have been doing a 100% job at producing only straight children. Some people tend to forget the basic rule.Make sure brain is in gear before engaging mouth.I have yet to fi Read more:Logic

Happiness in meditation 2008-05-31 11:01:21 It's really not my place to post this.. But it seemed appropriate for a few.I have a really good friend who's been a little stressed and nervous About a major 2 week project she was due to start on Friday.I told her to relax by using a mantra. A personal favourite goes 'along the lines' of:"Pretend your next pint is in London"I can say with all positive assurances that this style of mantra met wit

My Choices for Doctor 11 2008-06-01 11:06:18 Now.. there are still no confirmed stories that David Tennant has no intention to leave at the end of series 4, or at the end of the 4 specials.Statements have been made that he has a commitment to being in the 2009 specials. But eventually, The Doctor
will regenerate. (Because I refuse to see the show go away again)So... now we start looking for potential actors.Right now I have two front runners.

Dating site epic fail
Here are two pieces of email received from a facebook based dating site.
I don't know about you. But personally, I think they really need help with their algorithm here. Is it really in their best interest to say: Hey! 56 people looked at you. Only two are interested. So much for facebook.

An anecdote 2008-06-05 10:50:16 This morning on the way to the bus I wanted to check something on the 'net. I reached into my pocket at pulled out a USB Sprint Networking device for my laptop. The device sits in the palm of my hand. It's about 2 inches long and maybe 1/2 inch for the other two dimensions.I pulled it out and stared at it.I thought about the first typewriter I ever touched in my father's office. It was one of the n
An advert: Utterly hooked 2008-06-05 09:32:54 I'm not one to typically post about FanVids. If you have access to digital footage and a cheap editting program they are relatively easy to put together. But like many things you discover they're easy to learn, hard to master.I've seen FanVids that are basically blasts of images to videos. Sometimes interpretive, usually just literal. I'm old enough to remember the horrible day that MTV showed eve
Poor, poor boy 2008-06-07 05:16:09 As you can see by the time.... it's... late.Well, I guess it's only about 1:15 in the afternoon if you're in Greece ;)Sadly here, we are experiencing a parental milestone. The child has awoken us by sharing his unhappy stomach in bed with us.Of course this begins with chaos RIPPING you from the warm embrace of unconsciousness. You then move into controlled, battle mode. Making sure everything is cl
Putting my money (and yours) to work 2008-06-06 19:20:46 This is just a reminder...Obama fought a hell of an impressive battle to make it to become the presumptive nominee for democratic candidate for President. But now the real battle begins... and the cost to do this isn't over. The republicans are raising lots of money to fund McCain. And money will be necessary to defray the costs to get Obama around the country.I strongly suggest dropping by my fund Read more:Putting
Andrei, welcome to your surreal weekend 2008-06-06 18:57:27 So, the weekend started with me doing a presentation on programming in a new language to my team. My first presentation and about 80% of my team is in there. Lots of people. No pressure ;)Afterwards we had a Friday celebration for a really cool guy on the team that has now been in our group for 10 years. I spent the bulk of that period discussing Doctor Who and Highlander and explained that Highla Read more:Andrei
