What Are Spam Blogs?
2007-05-01 10:14:00
As with many powerful tools, blogging services can be both used and abused. The ease of creating and updating webpages with Blogger has made it particularly prone to a form of behavior known as link spamming. Blogs engaged in this behavior are called spam blogs, and can be recognized by their irrelevant, repetitive, or nonsensical text, along with a large number of links, usually all pointing to a single site. Spam blogs cause various problems, beyond simply wasting a few seconds of your time when you happen to come across one. They can clog up search engines, making it difficult to find real content on the subjects that interest you. They may scrape content from other sites on the web, using other people's writing to make it look as though they have useful information of their own. And if an automated system is creating spam posts at an extremely high rate, it can impact the speed and quality of the service for other, legitimate users.Source:blogger help

Why Blogs Have Become So Popular?
2007-04-30 18:24:00
It seems that blogs have come to the daylight just a few years ago. But in reality, it’s nothing new. Webmasters were using blogs for many years. The buzz started recently, because a few internet marketers discovered that it’s a great way to make money with blogs and started telling and selling another “how to blog” product to the rest of the world. Now, blogs have really started dominating the web. As some researches say, the popularity of blogs is going to increase in the next few years and even more people will start making blogs. There are actually few reasons why blogs are so popular now. First of all, they are search engine friendly. As long as posts are made very often and regularly, search engines spider them and index them very often. Second of all, it’s very easy to set up a blog. Lots of folks who don’t have a website want to get one. But they face a major problem. They don’t know HTML and how to create a website. Blogs eliminate this problem entirely. You can se

Others simply offer tips to do more specific things with your blog, namely increasing traffic, feed subscriptions, how to write regular content easily, and so on. So, what makes a blog successful? Here’s my take on it from another perspective. Just like a goal or generally life, you’ve got to have a purpose — a measurable milestone to cearly define what is success and otherwise. Having a successful blog is no different. As we know, there are many different uses of a blog. An individual may consider a blog successful if s/he is able to publish his/her daily public journal to the blog. In that case, a blog has been successfully established once s/he can easily make his/her thoughts available on the web. That aside, even if we narrow the context to just small business blogging, as this blog implies, still you have to clearly define your p

8 Ways to Use Alexa.com's Toolbar as Your Secret Traffic Weapon
2007-05-06 17:59:00
By now, most web marketers know that the Alexa .com ranking of their site is important. It gives an independent measure of your monthly unique visitors and reach on the Web to potential advertisers. To potential clients, it gives them a vehicle by which they can research your site, and if your ranking or reviews are favorable, an air of credibility as well. Across the Web, a trend is growing - webmasters display their graphical ranking on the front pages of their sites, and there has been a resurgence in reviews of websites on Alexa.com by the average web surfer. Yes, all this is common knowledge even among many new to selling their wares online. But did you know that there are other ways you can use Alexa.com to your advantage, specifically exploiting some of their latest changes to your advantage? How To Drive People To Your Site
2007-05-06 17:43:00
1. Upload new, original, and useful content often. Do not think of your Web site as a virtual brochure. Avoid blatant ads such as banners, which turn visitors off. Give them information they can't find anywhere else and give it free. People want and need how to's, especially. Always think benefits when you post some new article. Helping your visitors get what they want will bring you their trust and respect as an expert, and eventually, bring you profit from your book, other products, or service. 2.Update your Web site content regularly and often, perhaps daily or weekly. If someone visits your site and finds nothing new, they will disappear into cyberspace and spend their time on other sites. If you don't want to write articles, copy and paste other people's articles or tips from their ezines or Web sites with their permission, of course. Keep the pieces under 1200 words. Common lengths are anywhere from 75-1000 words. You can include a tip list, past feature articles fr

Blog BackUp Online:A new tool for blog backup
2007-05-08 17:50:00
I found this webware.comIf you're the owner of a blog, there's a chance that, come one day, you might lose some or all of your posts. In order to avoid this, there's BlogBackupOnline, a free solution that will grab everything you've ever done and make a backup of it off site. Registering your blog (or anyone else's for that matter) is easy, just give it the URL, and if the site is on a popular blogging platform like Blogger, TypePad, or WordPress, it will start backing up posts right away. You don't actually need to give it your login or password to get things going, BlogBackupOnline will simply go through and scrape posts. Once blogs have been registered with the service, backup is automated, so you don't have to worry about it. Users get 50MB of storage, which might not sound like a lot, but keep in mind the tool is only grabbing text and HTML formatting code, not pictures, videos, or any other related files. If you do run out of space, (for now) the service is offering use

Improving link popularity and PageRank of your blog by removing Nofollow attribute in the comments
2007-05-13 14:28:00
The New Blogger have added a Nofollow attribute into the template to prevent hyperlinks in the comments section from being followed by search engines. This is to discourage spammers from posting spam comments in Blogger blogs. However, if you, like me, often respond to comments with links to your own posts and/or add signature line with a link to your blog/blogs, that is a disadvantage to you, especially if you moderate your comments to weed out spam comments. By doing that, you allow search engines to follow links in the comments section and will help increase link popularity and PageRank . This will help you bring more traffic to your blog. This will involve tampering with the template of your blog, and a wise step to take is always to backup your template before you make any changes so that if anything goes wrong, you can always upload the backup template and you will be back to where you were. If you don't know how to backup your template, refer to this post: Backing up and changing

Improve your site's Google Page rank
2007-05-13 07:44:00
One of the best ways to drive traffic and attract customers to your Web site is to improve your Google page rank. While a search engine optimization strategy won't ensure top billing for your site, it will increase the likelihood of higher exposure. Google uses automated programs known as "spiders" or "webcrawlers" that scan the Web regularly and rank Web sites according to a number of factors. Although much of the process is veiled in secrecy, here are some of the things that factor into your site's page rank. Links from other sites. Google spiders move from site to site across the Internet by following hyperlinks. The company's proprietary PageRank algorithm tallies "votes" for sites by counting the number of links a site has pointing to it from unrelated sites. Therefore, increasing the number of links to your site should elevate your ranking. All votes are not equal, however. Google gives heavier weight to votes from sites it deems as more important, so make sure to register y

How to add background picture to the sidebar
2007-05-12 18:41:00
A blog reader asked about how to add background picture to the sidebar. This can be done. The first thing you need to do is to upload the picture to the Web, perhaps using the method outlined in this post Getting New Blogger to host the photo for your profile, sidebar, Header, etc. (click BACK button to get back to this page) or use a photo host like PhotobucketWhat you need to do to to sign into Dashboard, click LAYOUT, then click EDIT HTML and look for this block of codes:#sidebar-wrapper { width: 150px; float: right; word-wrap: break-word; /* fix for long text breaking sidebar float in IE */ background:}Type this into the block of codes:url(photo URL);#sidebar-wrapper { width: 150px; float: right; word-wrap: break-word; /* fix for long text breaking sidebar float in IE */ background: url(photo URL);}You can see the result here: Dummies Test Blog. The links and wordings are a bit hard to see though because of the color. I probably have to choose another photo to demonstrate.

Start a Blogroll
2007-05-12 14:48:00
Actually, before you start one let's define what a blogroll is. Basically, it's a list of blogs you link to from your own blog. Usually your blogroll would go in the sidebar of your blog, and would include links to blogs you read frequently, or wish you read frequently. It could also include blogs you've exchanged links with - they add your blog to their blogroll, and in return you link to them from yours. Exchanging links between blogrolls can be an easy way to begin generating traffic to your blog and building visibility in a community of like-minded bloggers. If you like, you can also organize your blogroll in various ways. Alphabetically is the simplest and most obvious, but you can also create categories for the different types of blogs based on their subject matter, personal or professional focus, writing style and quality, frequency of updates, or any other criteria that will make your blogroll more useful, comprehensive, and comprehensible. You can make updating, maintaining a

Why everyone is pinging their blogs
2007-05-12 14:45:00
If you've blogged for any length of time, like an hour, you've probably come across the term "ping" somewhere out there in the blogosphere by now, or else right in your own blog dashboard. For instance, Blogger gives you the option in the Settings > Publishing tab to send pings to Weblogs.com, which tracks updates to blogs on a near real-time basis. But I'm already getting ahead of myself - what are these "pings" exactly? A ping is a digital signal (in XML-RPC format, if you care) that your blogging platform or another pinging piece of software can send out on your behalf each time your blog has been updated with new content. Pings are typically used by blog and RSS search and tracking services like search engines, news and RSS aggregators, and RSS feed generators and managers like FeedBurner. So they're a pretty hot commodity for services that want to make sure they're including the latest blog content as soon as it's been published. For example, following a ping, a blog search e

Promote Your Blog Via Syndication Services
2007-05-12 14:43:00
One way to increase your blog's exposure is via syndication services that will make your posts available to other websites to republish. If a high-profile website decides to feature your content, you'll get a prominent byline with a link back to your blog, which can potentially generate significant amounts of traffic and increase your online readership. The best-known blog syndication service is probably BlogBurst, which boasts such notable publishers as USA Today, Gannett, Reuters, and The Houston Chronicle among its clients. By joining BlogBurst, you'll agree to make your blog's content freely available for these publishers to include on their websites, in return for that byline and link back to your blog. If your blog joins the ranks of BlogBurst's top performers, you'll be eligible for their cash rewards program as well, with payouts ranging from $50 to $1500 for the most widely syndicated blogs.Another syndication service worth considering is Feedzilla, which operates on a sl
