Persona 3’s Aegis 1/7 Scale Figurine from Kotobukiya
2007-04-27 21:40:18
During that whole downtime period I managed to miss this bit of information from AnimeNewsI. It turns out that Kotobukiya, probably best known for their one-coin figurine series, is making a 1/7 scale (clocking in her at about 210 mm high, or about 8.25 inches), pre-painted PVC figurine of Aegis . She is posable at the neck, arms and wrists, unlike many higher-end PVC figurines. Of special note is that images show her with both her normal and gun hands, implying that these can be interchanged as you please. Kotobukiya plans to sell her for ¥6,090 in August, 2007. This equals out to about $51 USD. An image is included below, but you can see the rest on our Persona 3 merchandise page or by visiting the original source above. Share This

Fes First Week Sales Numbers
2007-04-26 06:31:58
Japanese sales numbers for the past week are in (from NeoGAF) and Persona 3: Fes has debuted at number three with 90,369 units sold. The charts don’t seem to differentiate between the deluxe (Persona 3 and Fes together) and basic (just the Fes expansion), but it seems to be a pretty fair debut. Coming in first and second were Super Paper Mario for the Wii and Fate/Stay Night for the PS2, respectively. Share This

No Fes for US
2007-04-26 02:01:27
A news post on RPGFan confirmed today that the US release of Persona 3 will not include the Fes expansion disc. Just released in Japan, Fes includes a new chapter to the story and other additions. There was some hope that Fes might be included despite how close in proximity the Japanese release is to the the US release of the main game, but those hopes seem to have been dashed. We’ll let you know if anything else develops. Until Atlus says otherwise, there is always some hope that Fes might pop up eventually. Share This

Persona 3 Wins Famitsu’s RPG Award
2007-04-25 06:46:36
Famitsu’s 2006 Award s were recently announced and as such are making the rounds on English websites. As a slight surprise, Atlus’s Persona 3 won the “RPG Award”. Of course, in a way it kind of feels like a third place nod considering Final Fantasy XII and Pokemon: Diamond/Pearl wound up with the grand prize. Here’s the overall rundown, thanks to QJ. Rookie Award - Blue Dragon Best Hit Award - Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Innovation Award - Wii Sports Rearrange Award - New Super Mario Brothers High Performance Award - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Dramatic Award - Ryu Ga Gotoku 2 (Yakuza 2) Game Design Award - Okami Multiplayer Action Award - Monster Hunter Portable 2 Impact Award - Dead Rising Portable Award - Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops RPG Award - Persona 3 Most Valuable Person - Hironobu Sakaguchi Game character of the Year - Mario Game company of the year - Nintendo Grand Prize: Game of the Year Award - Final Fantasy XII, Pokemon: Diamond and

Atlus to Have E3 Booth
2007-04-25 06:40:33
Not a major announcement usually, but given the proposed changes to E3 for 2007 (including significant downsizing), it’s still good to read. Atlus is signed up with dozens of other major publishers to have some sort of presence at E3. The point of the downsizing (and other changes) was seemingly to pull some of the spotlight off of the biggest players and to prevent it from continuing to be such a circus… we’ll see how well this works out for smaller companies such as Atlus. Persona 3 Deluxe Edition Announced
2007-04-25 05:56:54
Turns out that the information from EBGames that we reported on in March was correct. Persona 3 will be available in a collector’s edition package. Atlus confirmed this on their website earlier today with a PDF press release. This so-called “deluxe edition” seems to be the only option available. Aside from the expected PR lingo, the PDF explains that the game will contain the following items: A full-color, 52-page art book packed with character art, concept sketches, and more! Soundtrack CD featuring the hip urban-techno music of Shoji Meguro, composer of the haunting and unforgettable scores for Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga! A striking collector’s box to store your game and all the extra goodies! Exclamation points are Atlus’s emphasis, obviously. Unfortunately, the press release doesn’t give any more concrete information as to the release date. We’re still stuck with “Summer 2007″, although EBGames is claiming July. It’s ob

Digital Devil Database Is Back
2007-04-25 05:43:45
Note: This is a sticky post and will remain at the top for a short period of time. Newer posts will display below this one. So, that redesign took a lot longer than planned. The sad thing is that it is not finished yet. There’s still content to move (particularly in some of the lesser visited Games sections) and new sections to fill in (Downloads?). Most of the old posts are still not moved over and categories on the side are claiming they have entries they do not. This will be fixed over the next few days. Beyond that, I’ve taken the quick route with some of the banners. In the near future, expect there to be artwork changes as well as textual changes. On the plus side, every thing else has gone according to plan. The site now runs on WordPress instead of Movable Type. The main reason for this is for vB integration. You’ll notice that every entry now has a “comments” link at the end of it. Instead of having a separate comment form specific to WordPress

Persona 3 US Special Edition Info
2007-03-24 01:11:01
It turns out that Gamestop and EB Games have both updated their Persona 3 listings. The pre-order is listed for $49.99 with a ship date of July 24th. It’s worth noting that this about a month later than Atlus has listed before. It remains to be seen which is the correct date. Of special note is that the game is listed as a “Special Edition ”. Both sites claim that, while supplies last, Persona 3 will be packaged with a soundtrack and an official art book. The site seems to imply that this is something Atlus itself is doing based upon the wording. If you’re interested in these items, it’s probably a safe bet to pre-order the game as soon as you are able. Thanks to Eric for pointing this out to us. Share This

Nirvana Now Archived at Digital Devil Database
2007-03-21 01:11:48
Those who visit this site are likely familiar with Nirvana , a fan site for the Digital Devil Saga series. Somewhat recently, the owner, Argilla, decided to close down the domain it was hosted at. She has a short post discussing this and the future of her sites at yosuga.net right now. As such, Nirvana no longer had a home. She brought this up to me and figured the best bet would be to host it here, something I had already offered when it was down once before (although only temporarily). So, basically, Nirvana is now hosted at this site. It will always be reachable at nirvana.digitaldevildb.com. If you’re looking for more Digital Devil Saga information than is currently provided on this site, Nirvana is really the best place to go. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t already. I figured I could also mention that if you have a Megaten related site that you’re just not interested in hosting any longer for whatever reason, I’m more than willing to archive it her

2007-03-19 01:13:23
I used a randomizer to choose between all applicable entrants in the .hack //G.U. Vol. 1 give away. The winner turned out to be Arjuna. I’ve made attempts to contact Arjuna, but haven’t had much luck yet. If for some reason I continue to be unable to reach the winner after another week or so, I’ll be forced to choose a new one. Mitsuru Figurine from Kotobukiya
2007-05-02 21:02:52
James H. wrote in to let us know that not only is Kotobukiya making an Aegis figurine, they’re also making one of Mitsuru. It turns out that the Mitsuru figurine was actually the first of the two announced. It is planned for a July release in Japan and follows the same 1/7 scale specifications. She comes with both a sword and gun. James was also kind enough to send over several related links. In addition to the original Kotobukiya page, AnimeNewsI also has a page on the figurine that is complete with photos (which can also be found on our Persona 3 Merchandise page). It also turns out that Big Bad Toystore still be stocking both of these figures in the Fall. You can pre-order them for around $35 USD each. Share This

First Persona 3 English Screenshots
2007-05-03 22:43:54
Atlus updated its press site today with a whole bunch of English Persona 3 images. These are actually the first translated screens to surface. They have made their rounds on a bunch of web sites already, but assuming you’ve not seen them you can check them out on our Persona 3 screenshot page. Something I noticed is that Aegis appears to be called “Aigis” in these screens. I wonder if that was deliberate or just a typo? Share This

Site Updates: Lightbox Plus, Screen Galleries and Missing Sections
2007-05-06 21:07:50
I’ve gotten a few e-mails asking where some of our older game sections are. Part of the reason it is taking so long for these sections to appear on the new design is due to some changes in construction of stuff behind the scenes. Our resident programmer, Alan, recently created new image gallery software that has been implemented into the site. He’s tweaked some random things for me and I think we’re both happy with the final result. Now that this is finished, there’s more reason to actually bother with the additional sections. If we were to make the sections beforehand, it would pretty much double the work involved. It just didn’t really seem worthwhile. The result of that specifically is that gallery pages (screen shots, merchandise, art, etc.) in individual game sections now display differently. They still make use of thumbnails, but we now have something called Lightbox Plus enabled when viewing the large versions. You can read more about that on our ab

Site Update: Lightbox Plus Nixed for Slimbox
2007-05-08 07:12:58
I received an e-mail today from Alex informing me that Lightbox 2.0 might be better to use than Lightbox Plus for the site. I think this was somewhere in the back of my mind; I was uncomfortable with Lightbox Plus (let’s face it, image resizing by a browser isn’t exactly going to result in quality output). and Alex’s e-mail kind of just snapped something in my mind that made me realize the best course of action was to drop it entirely. As I went to find Lightbox 2.x (which, incidentally, was actually installed here briefly before making way for Lightbox Plus), I stumbled upon a different version known as Slimbox. It did the same thing, but its file size was substantially lower. This isn’t important so much for my bandwidth as much as it’s important for the stability, processing consumption and speed of the site for the users. I figured it was worthwhile to use it instead. I feel that it runs noticeably more quickly. So, in a round-about way, thanks to Alex

First English Persona 3 Impressions from 1Up
2007-05-11 17:27:24
1Up added impressions for the English version of Persona 3 to their site a few days back. It covers some of the basic aspects of the game, as expected, but most notably it discusses some of the localization that’s in place. In an early version of the English game we played, the localization is shaping up nicely. Fitting American teen-slang to Japanese kids usually has disastrous results in other games and anime productions, but here it at least fits with the game’s stylish presentation. And since the voice acting doesn’t sound too mechanical, fans (and cynical gamers in general) shouldn’t be disappointed. Be sure to check out the rest of the impressions for more information. Site Update: Hosting and 404 Errors
2007-05-17 23:31:53
Just a quick update to address a few lingering issues. Some of you may have noticed that the site has been down quite often over the past few weeks. I brought this up to my host and have been moved to a different server. Since then, I’ve not personally witnessed any issues. Let’s hope it stays that way. The site still has quite a few missing sections, which in turn bring you to a 404 Error page. I’ve been working on gettin this under control and am on track to have at least a few of these finished by this weekend. I’m not very happy about this whole issue, but it’s being dealt with as much as possible. Thanks for your patience with these matters. The worst of it is over, thankfully. Share This

Atlus Persona 3 Interview at RPGamer
2007-06-08 23:27:26
RPGamer was fortunate enough to be able to interview some Atlus team members about their upcoming titles. One of the titles in question, of course, was Persona 3. Here’s an excerpt. Though Atlus has no plans to release Fes in North America, is it even a possibility for the future? I’m sorry, we have no plans for it at this time. You can read the rest of the interview at RPGamer. IGN Persona 3 Impressions
2007-06-08 23:20:10
Now that I’m back from the dead, it’s time for more news. IGN stuck up some hands-on impressions of Persona 3 last week. While they don’t exactly offer any new information, it might be worth reading if you’re absolutely starved for details. You can check it out here. I’ve tried contacting Atlus for interview information about the title, seeing as though it appears to have been sent in some capacity to major mainstream media. Unfortunately, I’ve yet to hear back. Atlus seems to change PR people about as often as the weather changes. We shall see what happens. Share This

It looks like there’s some chance that we’ll be having an interview with Atlus concerning Persona 3 soon. So, feel free to respond to this post or e-mail me with your suggestions. Thanks! Share This

Site Updates: Downtime Ending
2007-07-02 00:51:19
I wanted to address some of the “downtime” this site has had recently. Obviously it’s been accessible, but it’s not been updated as often as I would have liked. This is being rectified by a couple of things: Restructuring of the staff. My current main assistant, Traci, will see her role in the site increase. In addition, there are finally some others interested in helping with updates to the site. I expect that this will play the biggest part in keeping the site well maintained as, frankly, it’s quite hard to do by yourself. Other web site commitments I’ve been involved with are essentially over. Digital Devil Database, currently, is the only “hobby” project I am involved with and therefore will receive a lot more of my attention. My actual job is relaxing some and will seemingly remain as such for most of the year. Good news. Essentially this site will again become the priority it was for me in earlier this year when the switch to the

Another bit of hands on impressions concerning Persona 3 has hit the Internet. This time around it’s from the comics-themed GameAlmighty web site. While it doesn’t offer any real new information for those who have kept up on the title, it does help raise the hype level. Persona 3 is officially dated for July 24th 2007. Only 23 days away. Shin Megami Tensei Online: IMAGINE Section Back Up
2007-07-09 14:33:52
I managed to get the Shin Megami Tensei Online: IMAGINE section back up today. As of this post the screens page still needs to be added (and the banner has to be changed), but every thing else is the way it was. This includes the beta play guide, since I’ve been asked about that a few times recently. If there’s something that’s changed since the beta or should be corrected, just let me know. Share This

Revelations: Persona Section Up

Our section for Revelations : Persona is now working properly. It contains the same information (and wallpapers) as it did on the last version of the site, so see this more as a catch-up moment than anything. If you have information you think should be added or expanded upon for the title, please feel free to contact us. Most importantly, I’m looking for screens of the game… preferably without site logos on them. If you happen to have some you’ve taken yourself and you’d like to share them, it would definitely be appreciated. Share This
