Nicole Hyde 2007-05-11 06:47:00 My preferred medium is oil paint. With each subject, I strive to portray tension and mystery through the use of light, color, and texture. In my still-lifes I believe in simplicity in composition and a bit of whimsy in the staging. By using various techniques, my goal is to create a sense of space and depth and encourage the viewer to provide their own narrative. My new work is an exploration into those physical spaces that shape not only one's environment, but also, an inner life. I call them *Elemental Landscapes* -- landscapes that evoke an emotional tug-of-war between awe and isolation.Through my favorite landscape subjects of big skies, fields and prairies (especially in winter), and large bodies of water, I want to convey a sense of optimism or anticipation as you look toward distant horizons with your feet firmly planted on the edge of those vast expanses. My trusty, paint-caked palette knives and favorite brushes (with the odd fingertips, cosmetic sponges and Q-tips t

Sarah Wimperis 2007-05-24 04:48:00 Sarah Wimperis has been a professional artist and illustrator for over 25 years. She is an English artist and has lived in many countries, including Norway, China, Israel, Russia, before finally settling in France. She divides her time between illustrating children’s books and painting the life and light of Brittany. She sells her work to collectors all over the world and uses her blog 'The Red Shoes' to showcase her smaller, very affordable work. This blog is worth a visit, if only to enjoy a little trip to France via Sarah’s work.Sarah's BlogTechnorati Tags art, blog, artist, paintings Read more:Sarah

News from Art Blogs 4 U ..... 2007-06-30 15:23:00 I've been away for a few weeks but I'm back now busy updating Art Blogs
4 U. The site has been up and running for seven months and we currently have 109 artists listed! .... this is really GOOD NEWS. However, some members have been lost to us because they have taken the reciprocal link from their blogs .... this is sad. Displaying a link to Art Blogs 4 U is necessary to remain listed here. It has been pointed out to me this week that clarification of criteria for inclusion at Art Blogs 4 U may be in order:1. The artist's work should be mainly two-dimensional - definition "having only length and width" - as in a drawing/painting/wall-hanging. Three-dimensional work is "of, relating to, having or existing in three dimensions" - as in free-standing sculpture, ceramics, decorative artifacts, etc. Blogs displaying mostly three-dimensional art will not be included.2. For the purpose of this blog the genre Mixed Media is defined as "where more than one method/medium is used on the same

Paula Art 2007-07-16 00:33:00 Born in Illinois in 1961, Paula
is a first generation self taught artist. She moved to Arizona in 1981 and in 1985 studied massage therapy and spent the next 20 years building up her private practice. In the spring of 2003 Paula quit massage and prepared to travel around the states camping and hiking while looking for a place to live and to find a creative outlet for herself. She spent the winter of 2004 in Minneapolis and became interested in painting on tile and experimenting with other mediums. Paula had made a handful of pen and ink drawings in 1995 and was still uncertain of what mediums she felt drawn to. By summer of 2005 she had covered most of the Northern slice of the United States & parts of Canada but it wasn't until she arrived in Vermont that she felt drawn to stop for another winter. As soon as she settled in she began working with found objects and photography as a way to capture texture and mood. Her work is an expression of her fascination with Verm

Jax Chachitz 2007-08-27 18:10:00 Abstract art - manipulating canvas - keeping away from concepts, objects, figures - I feel a form creeps in. I use the image to give the painting direction then remove myself from the constraints of these forms - a ghost appearing and then disappearing. Painting for paintings sake - colors, shapes, lines, patterns juxtaposed with a random purpose. Aggressive paint strokes against delicate organic forms - fresh paint on canvas - the first strokes give an exciting raw edge. Do the opposite of what I was taught - paint like a child - don't think. Paint "ugly", mix pigments, paint wet on wet, paint dry, put direction in corners going away from the canvas, create imbalance.Within these spontaneous parameters a natural balance occurs.Jax's blog

Three community murals in Kurri Kurri with the assistance of my two children – Alexander (17yrs) and Charlotte(15yrs) . This can be from direct observation of the subject or from the imaginary world. I constantly refer to the work of the cubists in my drawing and painting using simple geometric formulas to break forms into planes of light, colour and space. I work with oil, acrylic, pastel and charcoal as well as multi media. I use photography and computer technology in my research practice.Kim's Blog
Serena Lewis 2007-09-16 21:55:00 Hi there! I was first introduced to art over fourteen years ago when I took some basic lessons in Folk Art techniques. While this was only available to me for a very short time, it did ignite a passion for painting that I have enjoyed ever since. I am basically self-taught and I love the challenge of trying to achieve a sense of realism in my art. I was approached to teach art classes over three years ago and I currently teach two mornings a week. It's very rewarding for me to see the look of pride on my student's faces when they complete a new painting. I work with acrylics and, in 2007, I plan to focus my art more on wildlife and domestic animals though I do paint other subjects also. My Blog is a place for me to share my continuing journey through art as well as my personal musings about various topics. I invite you to pop in for a visit anytime and share part of that journey with me. You are always welcome.Serena

Lisa Call 2007-09-07 15:32:00 Lisa Call is an artist working in fiber who creates bold geometric quilts that are composed of her richly colored hand dyed fabric. Her work is abstract but draws elements from many places: her love of the colors and geological forms of the southwest, her interest in human-made structures for containment such as fences and stone walls, and her exploration of her own internal psychological walls and boundaries.Lisa's award winning work has been shown in exhibits throughout the United States and in Europe including Craft Forms at the Wayne Art Center, National Crafts, Quilt National, and Layers of Meaning: The Art Quilt 2005 at the Contemporary Crafts Museum in Portland, Oregon. Her piece, Structures #11, was selected for the cover of the Quilt National 2003 catalog.A self taught artist, Lisa began making one of a kind contemporary quilts in 1993. In 1997 she founded The Fiber Connection, a successful online artist support group. She received a Master of Science in Computer Science fro
Margaret 2007-10-02 08:08:00 I am a self-taught artist but it is only in recent years that I have been able to develop my love of painting. For me colour, light and expression are all-important and in my work I try to capture the essence of the subject and give a very personal stamp of my own creativity. My subjects are varied and my preferred medium is oil. I have lived in Kent for over 20 years and also enjoy working 'en plein air' with watercolours in the local countryside. My own taste in art is varied; Van Gogh - Vuillard - Palmer - Prendergast - the list is endless.Margaret

Melody Lea Lamb 2007-10-28 02:53:00 Is Melody an artist who can also talk to animals—or a lover of fur and paws who also draws like a dream? Her fans can’t tell where one gift ends and another begins. All they know is that the combination has led to some pretty interesting life circumstances, from teaching art in a chicken coop to composing watercolors on horseback. And that may also be why Melody’s renderings of fairies and forest vistas seem as alive as her portraits of horses and cats. All creatures great or small, real or imaginary, inspire Melody’s brush.Having done her time at art school and the gallery scene, with a successful series of commissions along the way, Melody now paints miniature masterpieces in the Berkshire Mountains while tending to a menagerie that includes a horse, a husband, three cats, two kids, and a dog … all of whom have modeled for her at one point or another. Melody’s newest work is available on eBay through Art Cards, Editions and Originals (ACEO).Melody's Blog
Roxanne Vise 2007-11-13 15:50:00 My paintings express my sense of wonder of the natural world. More than just an abstract view of objects, I explore individual beauty and the divine connection to all things. Using layer upon layer, sometimes adding, then scraping away - building texture and depth to draw the viewer into the moment of viewing - to expand the experience - to bring a sense of calm before moving on to buy groceries.Roxanne's Blog
