Herzog & de Meuron

Allianz Arena The new Allianz Arena football stadium in Munich, designed by Herzog and De Meuron, is a quite beautiful piece of work, which puts Norman Foster's compromised new Wembley to shame on several fronts. For a start, it's come in on time and on budget (for a quarter that of Wembley, actually), but also features innovations such as cashless payment, is acoustically brilliant, and its distinctive appearance has already been taken to heart by locals, who have dubbed it 'the rubber dinghy.

osteogenetic chair
2007-03-28 06:12:00
The OSTEOGENETIC CHAIR addresses these issues. Similar to the structure of bones, one single material is used for its outer solid shell and the internal micro grid. Not only does the design follow the distribution of forces on the outside, but also internally. The supporting 3D grid alters, depending on the required strength at each individual location. Therefore, minimum use of material and weight is guaranteed. Contemporary rapid manufacturing technology opens the gate to such new concepts that were previously not able to be manufactured

ow1
2007-03-28 06:10:00
The idea behind the OW1 stool manipulates the simple form of the obi and transforms it into diverse and complex objects. There can be complexity in simplicity. Masayuki Sato designs things that obey the theme of “containing complexity” by adding simple touches and treatments to simple forms. He believes this gives the object diversity, clarity, logic and profundity at the same time. For the design of the OW1 stool, he adopted the idea of a single element – a felt sheet shaped like an obi (a simple, traditional Japanese belt worn with the kimono). He saw the potential in this simple rectangular object to be shaped into various kinds of configurations and to be functionalised, just like origami. The form of OW1 serves to satisfy structural requirements at the same time. The felt obi can be made structural by “filling it” with resin. Wire mesh placed inside the felt obi enabled the creation of shape without the use of any mould. With this method of forming and making organic-shap

About Second SkinEvery object has a skin. Thick or thin, smooth or rough, porous or impermeable, skin is the line between a hidden interior and a surface that we can touch and see. Contemporary products, furniture, fashion, and architecture reflect the convergence of natural and artificial life. Designers today manipulate surfaces to create skins that both reveal and conceal, skins that have depth and complexity. As advances in science dissolve the boundaries between technology and nature, a new organicism has emerged, expressed in the conjunction of artificial materials and fluid forms. As our bodies become more like industrial products-subject to miraculous procedures of maintenance, repair, and redesign-we expect objects to be more like us: responsive, erotic, and soft to the touch.Second Skin presents examples of products, furniture, fashion, architecture, and media that are expanding the limits of the outer surface. Reflecting the convergence of natural and artificial life, the exh

the typeface called Soho
2007-05-14 21:36:00
A new slightly beefy typeface called Soho was released yesterday by Monotype out of the U.K. Good for publishing and corporate branding, Soho features many different stylistic sets, allowing for personalization (Regular is pictured right). Lightweight, condensed, or super-strong and heavy, it's a versatile font based on a slab serif (characterized by thick and blocky serifs) that's clean and easy to read. Typeface designer Sebastian Lester's goal was to make a font that looked very 21st century and he comments, "perhaps 60,000 fonts in circulation and only a small handful of multi-weight, multi-width slab serif designs exist." Add one more to the handful

"Exciting, visionary and innovative design has always been the product of new materials and technology." Werner Aisslinger was born in 1964. Studied Design at University HdK Berlin. He said"Today's lightning-speed technological advancements have led to the appearance of three-dimensional fibreglass, gels, aluminium foam, three-dimensional textiles and neoprenes from which entirely new products can be created. Aesthetically, the design of these future products will be utilitarian, organic, reduced, soft, puristic, poetic, modular and nomadic."nic chair designed by werner aisslinger for magis in 2003.A chromed steel tube frame provides the support for this comfortable and unusual looking chair, which we think would be great in any kitchen, dining room, or diner.

1597 Wall Sconce by Janne Kyttanen
2007-05-27 02:29:00
Amazing wall light !!1597 is based on the Fibonacci sequence of numbers appearing in the nature all around. 1597 is inspired by the Coneflower and the way its seeds’ growing patterns are arranged. All the holes in this shade are arranged around the bulb, so no matter where you look at it, you can’t escape the beatiful rays of light it creates.1597 can be mounted on the wall or on the ceiling. Due to being such a strong decorative shape, it works well as s single source of light as well as an arrayed sequence of lights.

Curator: Alex AdriaansensDate:8/11~10/7/2007The exhibition is very interesting and meaningful. Many programs are thought-provoking,such as"The Catalogue" by Chris Dakley."how would you face a world in which you have become catalogued data that could be examined and read?".In this generation, everyone could be monitored,if you just watch "The Bourne Ultimatum"or "Enemy of the State"that would let you feel deep after you see this program.Another"Feed" by shane cooper which symbolize couch potato that eat TV dinners.about exhibitionElectronic media as video, television, radio, film and the internet are closely intertwined with our understanding of history. These time based media function as our collective memory. Our understanding of history is also closely related to the way we collect and organize information, and retrieve meaning and knowledge from information stored in archives and databases. But in our digital and networked age information isn't solely a means to retrospectively look
