His: America a failed democracy: Lessons we can learn from France
2007-04-27 12:31:06
On the tailend of the first debate in this political season, much of the international media is still focused on the presidential election taking place in France .  It might not be making the huge headlines on this side of the Atlantic as it is in Europe, but there are some lessons America ns can take with them as they head to the polls in a little more than a year-and-a-half.  It’s not about who’s running and who made it to the finals that’s important in France.  A woman one election away from France’s top post is impressive (the two candidates will go head-to-head May 6), but that’s just the icing on the cake.  What’s more impressive is the fact that France hands down is more democratic than the United States. It’s a slam dunk, you can’t even compare the numbers. (more…)

Hers: Rosie will be missed
2007-04-26 17:36:09
Rosie is a strong woman who fights for what she believes in. Sometimes she fights too hard. She doesn’t let others have a fair say. But she is great television. When we first caught wind of Rosie was right after her tirade against Donald Trump. She quite rightly said he is not the moral compass with which teenage girls, such as the troubled Miss USA Tara Connor, should be guiding themselves. Since then, she has made ire-inducing comments about Chinese people, got into again with Trump and, of course, there was the Clay Aiken-Kelly Ripa incident. (more…)

Hers: Condi vs. Hillary
2007-04-26 17:24:40
Many people say Condi Rice will never be president because she is a single woman. The president of the United States needs to be family-oriented. And while Hillary Clinton isn’t exactly the warmest mother and wife in the country, she has stuck by her husband and her daughter. I, for one, don’t think being a family person should be a qualifying characteristic for the presidency. Condi Rice has yet to test her elect-ability in any market. And we have not in recent history had a straight-up adviser elected to the highest office in the land. She is a strong, tough woman, sure. But so is Clinton, who has proved elect-abililty. And her husband, for whatever reason, is extremely popular. As is his former vice president, Al Gore. What has Clinton done for this country? More than you realize. Just visit this Web site and search for bills she has sponsored. Some of them include: (more…)

Hers: Is America next?
2007-04-26 16:31:48
The French have put a woman in the runoff for its presidential election. They are on the verge of becoming one of the numerous countries who have put women in their highest elected office. Mongolia, Argentina, Bolivia, Iceland, Germany, Ireland, Ecquador, Switzerland and Chile are just some of them. Segolene Royal, 53, made an issue of her gender during the election campaign, claiming it as both an asset and a handicap. She says she’s had a tougher time as a woman, but insists voters should make her president because a woman in charge would be a real symbol of change. “I don’t see why you should have to resemble a man to be taken seriously,” Royal has said. The Gazette (more…)

His: Actor cans photographer with beans
2007-04-26 13:26:49
LONDON — Men are known to have a temper, but baked beans as a dangerous weapon? That’s a bit strange, even for us. The Independent reports actor Hugh Grant was arrested in London for assaulting a photographer with a can of baked bins. The alleged clash happened on Tuesday near the actor’s west London home. Hers: Guns deadly no matter what
2007-04-26 11:56:28
I am not sure if gun control is a His/Hers issue. Guns are deadly , no matter whether it’s a woman’s finger or a man’s finger pulling the trigger. Research shows that only 10 percent of women in the United States own guns. And it is said the idea that owning a gun will keep women safe from attackers and rapists is a myth. In 1998, according to the Campaign to End Gun Violence, women were 101 times more likely to be murdered with a handgun than to use a handgun in self-defense. Also, less than 2 percent of rapes are committed with guns, while almost 70 percent of rapes are committed with personal weapons (physical violence). It is said women would be better off knowing self-defense than carrying a gun. (more…)

His: Bush proves white boys can’t dance
2007-04-26 09:10:19
President Bush yesterday proved white boys can’t dance at a Malaria Awareness Day event at the White House. He was hosting an African dance group, apparently the music got the better of him. Go, George, go!

His: School shooting survivor says Gingrich was wrong
2007-04-26 01:42:22
Newt Gingrich on last week’s “This Week” said that America must arm its student population. “I would just suggest here that the professor who gave his life to save a class, who himself was a Holocaust survivor, had he been in a position to stop this deranged person, would have saved an awful lot of lives, including his own,” Gingrich said on ABC’s “This Week.” Gingrich cited an old school shooting incident at the Appalachian School of Law in 2002. Ted Besen, an unarmed spectator at the shooting, tackled the shooter. In the chaos that followed, Besen’s actions were forgotten in the media and the attention turned to two other students who followed Besen with guns in hand. Gingrich said that this is an example of how concealed gun carriers have stopped killers in the past. (more…)

Hers: Drew’s company
2007-04-25 14:48:25
I completely agree that Drew Barrymore is a beautiful person. She shows all women (and men) that you can turn your life around. Beating those dark demons like drug addiction is possible. She is now one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood and is an animal rights activist. But the most beautiful person IN THE WORLD? I don’t know about that one, folks. Here are some of my picks for that title: (more…)
