EVE Online MMO Best Space Sim Ever?
2007-04-23 00:19:37
A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to try out EVE Online. This weekend, I finally decided to download the demo and give it a try. You don’t need to submit any credit card info… always a big plus for any trial run. My first impression was that this was a pretty cool looking stylish game. I was excited to dive into it. So I started to go through the tutorial. This seemed to go on… and on… and on… The interface is very point and click… hold down your right or left mouse button on things to choose what to do or how to interact. There’s a lot you can do… off the back it’s almost overwhelming. The universe appears HUGE! My biggest problem with EVE is the combat. It is more slow and strategic than I thought it would be. You click your target; select to attack it and kind of sit back while the fighting takes place. I’m told there’s a lot more to do once you have multiple guns and missiles to manage. One of my favorite space sims was Freelancer. That game wa

A Great Place to Buy and Download PC Games
2007-04-21 17:32:24
You’ll see me talk a lot about Direct2Drive on the site and this blog. I love Direct2Drive… They seem to just get it! More and more new games are releasing on their site as soon as they are available to purchase at the local gaming store. The site is extremely easy to use. They also keep your history so that if you need to switch your license over to a new PC it’s possible. If you’re looking for one of the best places to buy the newest PC games online, check out Direct2Drive. You might just save yourself a trip to the mall!

Match the colored balls… repeat.
2007-04-21 02:54:16
Between marathon sessions of Oblivion, I find myself playing Luxor 2 a lot lately. It’s one of those simple little casual games that you start up planning to spend a few minutes on and an hour later you’re not sure where the time has gone! What is it about matching colored balls? It’s a such a simple thing, but we feel compelled to keep doing it! From Luxor 2 to Jewel Quest II to Magic Tale and so many more, it’s all about matching up colors and patterns. I think it’s the simplicity of it that we secretly love. While there are so many hardcore games that will max out the latest 3D card, sometimes it’s nice to just fire up one of the old casual games and start matching colors.

Just Say No to Buying Games at the Store!
2007-04-20 01:28:31
So why did I start this site? Frankly, I’m sick of going to the store to buy games.  The future of game publishing is online delivery of entire PC games… and it’s here now!  The problem is a lot of people don’t know where to begin their search.  I wanted to start a site to bring together the different places on the web where you can buy and download full version PC games directly to your computer. What I hope to do with this gaming blog is present reviews on these sites and the games available to buy and download directly to your PC.  My hope is that we will only see more of this and that eventually all games available at your local gaming store will be available to purchase directly from and online store to download to your PC. The games vary from well known titles like The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion available from sites like Direct2Drive to lesser known but many times incredibly entertaining games from sites like Big Fish Games and Reflexive. So, check them out, buy games

A Cool Casual Game to Try
2007-04-28 01:44:04
Fairies is a cool casual game that I have been playing recently. You need to slide rows and columns of “captured” fairies and match colors to free them. The graphics are descent for a casual game like this. There are some cool particle effects as the fairies escape and as you make use of special bonus areas. There are four modes of play. In adventure mode, you are taken through a map and exposing fairy photos as you clear levels. Here you continue on a quest to free all of the fairies. In classic mode, you aren’t rushed because there isn’t a time limit. The relaxed mode lets you play continuously without any pressure to move on in levels. The last mode is playback which totally differs from the other modes. This one plays kind of like a game of simon. It plays part of a tune using fairy colors and you need to play it back by clicking the same colors and tune. Check it out and set the Fairies free!

A Cool Trading Card Game on your PC
2007-04-24 05:44:35
If you like trading card games like Magic the Gathering, you might want to check out Astral Masters. I used to be into MTG and some of the various Star Wars trading card games. The problem is, now as a father, it’s tough to find the time or people to sit down and play a trading card game like that. Astral Masters is cool since it gives me that TCG fix without having to purchase more cards! Collect Mana, summon creatures, cast spells, battle, etc… you know the drill. Like most trading card games, the play is fairly simple, but it takes quite a bit to master! For a “budget” priced game, there is a surprising amount of depth to it. You could spend a lot of time just assembling your deck and putting your cards together to find the right balance. The game has great fantasy art. You can also take your skills online to challenge real world players. While this isn’t going to replace you MTG deck, it’s a great escape for someone like me to bring back the

Fate: A Diablo Style RPG game
2007-04-29 19:37:07
I heard of Fate before, but this weekend I finally downloaded it and gave it a try. I was very impressed! This was a whole lot more than I was expecting. Wildgame’s has done a fantastic job capturing the Diablo style RPG feel and control with great graphics to match. You have a pet companion that will accompany you and assist on your journeys and battles in Fate. You can fish in certain locations for food to feed your dog companion that will transform him into creatures that are much more powerful. There is a surprising amount of depth to this RPG for a game in its price range. Speaking of the price range, Wildgames has some interesting systems in place. First off, you can purchase the full game for $20. The other option is a “coins” system. With this system, you purchase a plan that gives you so many coins. You can use these coins to play 100s of their games. This is a neat idea… you pay less and get to play many different games without having to purchase the full version

Amazing StarCraft 2 Trailer!!
2007-05-21 19:52:25
I can’t wait for this game!! The original Starcraft is one of my all time favorite games. I know the cinematic trailers are more “fluff” than anything real substantial to the actual game play, but I love the detail that Blizzard always puts into them. Now I’m just hoping that they make this available on Direct2Drive so that I can buy it and download it online!!

One of my favorite accessories I own for my PC is my X-Arcade Dual Joystick. It’s the right size, feel, and response that seems to instantly transport you to an arcade! They have added a new product called the “Tankstick”. This is just like the Dual Joystick that I have except they’ve added a track ball to it. Imagine play something like Golden Tee the way it was meant to be played on your home PC. Grimm’s Hatchery Review: A Strangely Addicting Little Game
2007-05-31 20:55:00
Your father the king has died and left the castle to your evil brother. The only way you will be able to take back what’s rightfully yours is to raise 300,000 gold. How are you going to do this? With your Hatchery… that’s how! Protect your creatures from invading monsters, collect their eggs, feed them, heal them, and keep them alive. This is what you will spend most of you time doing while playing this game and damn if it isn’t addicting! With the eggs you collect, you can sell them for gold or attempt to hatch them with the strong chance of destroying the egg. As you progress you’ll be able to do more with them like try to combine them to make unique eggs and better creatures. Unfortunately, one of your first impressions of this game is the tutorial. This looks as if it was just kind of tacked on by the programmer after the designer left the project! The talking bubbles look pretty horrible as if someone was using MS paint or something. FATE Bonus Pack and Enhanced Media
2007-06-04 18:12:37
For those of you who own FATE, you might not know of the items you can download from the official FATE website. If you’re like me, you downloaded it and never looked at the main FATE site. I checked it out this weekend and was surprised to see these additional packages to download. They have an Enhanced Media Package to improve the games textures and sound. There is also a Bonus pack that adds new weapons, armor, and 3 new monsters. Nice little packages for an already spectacular game. As I’ve said before, if you like the Diablo games (only better graphics!), than you shouldn’t miss out on FATE.

Aveyond: An Old School Final Fantasy Style RPG Game
2007-06-03 08:29:10
One of the things I like to do is find the games out there that are a diamond in the rough. They may not have the latest and greatest graphics, but the fun factor is the most important to me. I found this in Aveyond. Aveyond is an RPG that is very much in the style of an old school SNES game like the Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger games. If you enjoy these types of turn based games, then this one’s a game you should check out. I had a nostalgic feeling as I started playing Aeyond. At first it felt like an SNES Zelda with the top down view and slowly building story elements. Once the turn based battles started, it felt like I found a classic Final Fantasy I never played. I think sometimes I go into checking out these games with the preconceived notion that because of the low price, I’m not going to get the full experience that I want. I’m finding as I explore some of these alternate non-mainstream games that there are a surprising number of great diamonds to be discovered: FAT

A Star Wars Game from a fan to Honor the 30th Anniversary
2007-06-02 15:48:12
Back in 2000 when I first started to learn flash, I wanted to learn by putting a game together. The Star Wars Trilogy has always been and still remains my favorite movies of all time. I decided to make my first attempt at a flash game a tribute to Star Wars. So that began Star Wars Tie-P Fighter. The game is a “typing game”. Basically swarms of tie fighters attack and the targeting is based on pressing a letter that is assigned to that ship. As simple as this premise is, it turned out to be a really fun game! Fast forward a couple years and over time many educators have linked to it to assist students in learning how to type! The game gets a lot of visitors a day. I’m thrilled that teachers have used this game to educate and that others still log in to try and top their highest score. So, in honor of the 30th anniversary, I wanted to post back out to my little Star Wars game I made in flash so many years ago. I hope you have fun with it, and may the force be with you!!

100 of the Best Legal Free Full Version Games You Can Download Online
2007-06-16 19:01:37
Over time I have found many fully functioning games that are free to download in various places across the web. Here are 100 of these great full games that are free to download online. They range from independent games, to games that were once commercial but are now free, free to play MMO games (some of the MMOs do have the option of purchasing in game items, etc.), free action games, 3rd person games, games designed by hobbyists, and many more! If you know of others, please leave a comment with the URL.  I’ll approve comments as I have time. The graphics do not need to be the most up to date or have the most advanced physics engine.  The requirement I’m looking for is that they are fun to play! I want to create a single source to find these free games so that others don’t need to scour the web for them like I did. 100 Free Full Games to Download Online: Allegiance http://www.freeallegiance.org/ America’s Army http://www.americasarmy.com/downloads/ A

50+ More Free Full PC Games (Follow-up to 100 Full Version PC Games Post)

I never expected the original 100 full version PC games list to make the impact and receive the traffic that it did!  The response was phenomenal. Thanks to everyone for checking it out and contributing to the comments.  I hope it lead some to find new games to play. Many people were disappointed that this or that game were not mentioned in the list. This post is a compilation of games and links mentioned in comments on both the blog and on digg. Many people would like to see the games further categorized, rated, and described.  Being a “gaming dad” with a very full time job, I haven’t had the time to get that together.  I’m hoping to convert http://www.downloadfullversionpcgames.com/ from a site about games to buy and download online to a full featured engine for full free games.  Look for this in the future.  For now, I hope this expanded list will help you find something new to fire up and play! 3D Asteroids - an unusual but interesting game:

Infantry Online, Tanarus, and Cosmic Rift are now FREE to play!!

These great Sony Station Pass games are now free to play for all! Here’s the official post from the Sony Station Pass Message Boards: Hello All, It’s been a few months in the making but finally… it is my great pleasure to make the following announcement: Starting June 26th, the Station Pass games, Infantry, Cosmic Rift, and Tanarus, will be completely free. Yes, 100% (no money needed, no small print, no exceptions, etc) free! In order to make this transition, as of May 26th, billing will be turned off to prevent anyone else from subscribing and to allow everyone’s paid time to be completed. Since some accounts will expire before the end of the month and before the games are set to free, guest accounts will have to be used for that transitional period. My apologies for any inconvenience this transitional period may cause, but there’s no way around it, and well, I think some may say the end result makes it worth it. Additionally, as some of you may

Over 75 CCG games available to play online including the Decipher Star Wars CCG
2007-07-01 10:49:21
I’ve mentioned before that I used to be into collectible card games in the off line world in the past. If you have been into CCG games like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer CCG, Decipher ’s Star Wars CCG, the Babylon 5 CCG, or Dark Eden, then you need to check out the gatlingEngine from CCG Workshop. The gatlingEngine allows you to play strategy and hobby games online . From collectible card games, to miniature games, to boxed card games, to board games, to dice and tile games, this engine makes it possible for free! You can see the full list of games available in the gatlingEngine wiki. I can’t tell you how much money I poured into some of these cards back in the day. Decipher’s Star Wars CCG used to be one of my favorites for my brother and myself to play. I am blow away by the fact that I can now log in, download every card ever made, create my perfect deck or even use a randomly generated one, and jump into a game. There is a great community here with volunteers that will

Transformers the Movie Free Online Game “Battle for the Allspark”
2007-06-29 18:40:34
Being a child of the 80’s, I can’t wait to see the new Transformers movie coming out in a few days. I religiously watched the transformers battle it out and nearly cried during the original “Transformers the Movie.” (Come on, that movie was traumatic to watch!) I know, I’m a little worried about changes, updates, etc. But I’m ready to sit back and be entertained by Mr. Michael Bay and company. There’s a cool, free to play, online flash game that they have posted called “Battle for the Allspark”. First you choose your side, pick your bot and name him. Then you enter into a map that shows Autobot or Decepticon controlled regions. You choose the region you want to enter into, find an opponent, and battle it out. It’s very simple combat, but fun to jump in and play. They’ve got a built in chat so that you can chat (or taunt) your opponent. As you gain experience, you can actually rise in rank and develop new abilities to use in battle. There are also prizes for
