Hoffman Challenge 2008 Part 1 2008-07-06 22:47:00 I'm almost finished the doll for the challenge, should be tomorrow...but for tonight I thought I would show you part of it. This is a chair I made for her. The base is a small wooden plaque with a small wicker basket upside down on top of that and then the base is covered in batting and fabric, then trimmed up. The sitting part of the chair is the top part of a corrnucopia that I cut the bottom po Read more:Challenge
Garden Goodies 2008-08-05 11:18:00 Every gardener plants things in the garden to try them out, see how they work out and if it's successful...great. Well a couple of years ago I got two black currant bushes at a good price and thought I would give them a try. We did get some berries last year, but just a sampling. This year however was another story. Must be all that good compost they get treated to a regular basis. It took us a wh Read more:Garden

John Dean Park 2008-08-03 17:44:00 Is this not a wonderful site. We went for a walk/hike to the summit at John Dean Provincial Park. The sun coming through the trees just made this such a lovely site. It was great inside the wooden areas, very cool and refreshing..... Doesn't this just look like the best place on earth to forget your troubles. The sounds of nature were very soothing. There must be a busy family or two of crows or r
From the garden 2008-07-25 21:37:00 Just a quickie about the garden and what I've been doing there. I decided that since my parsley is doing so well, I have lots and it's so bushy I just had to dry some to keep for over the winter for soups and stews. So off I went and picked some. This is the first batch and it's almost finished now, so I can get more drying this weekend....and it's oh so tasty just as is to...I always load up our

A Journal Project 2008-08-12 22:34:00 Since leaving work, and probably for some time before that I haven't been taking the best of care of myself. As a health care worker, you tend to want to look after everyone else around you and think of yourself last. Anyone who is in health care knows exactly what I'm talking about. Well, when I quit my job in June I didn't really notice for the first two weeks that I was kind of running out of s Read more:Journal

Birthdays are fun! 2008-08-10 16:24:00 Today being my birthday, I am enjoying just playing. I finished my class doll last night and now I can get my next contest doll made and sent away to do her best. Yesterday my friend and I went over to Saltspring Is. and just poked around in some shops, went to the Saturday market and had a nice lunch. I intended to get to one particular place because their website said it was open to the public a Read more:Birthdays
The Soul Whisperer 2008-08-09 22:00:00 Have just finished this doll in a class with Colleen Babcock. It was a great project and if you're interested in making a Soul Whisperer
for yourself, the class runs until the 29th of August...You won't be sorry, great instructions and great teacher. I've decided my dolls name will Raya, which means Friend. I think that's a good name for her as only a true friend would whisper the right things in
Beacon Hill Park 2008-08-07 19:28:00 A few weeks ago we went into Victoria to take a walk around Beacon
Hill Park and just spend some time relaxing and enjoying a nice day. There is a petting farm at the park and who could resist going and seeing the new babies of the year. These little guys are Alpaca's, and after their hot weather hair cut. Poor things, don't they look silly. They were fun to watch as they chased each other around.
Techniques 2008-08-06 13:14:00 A while ago I asked my artsy group if they would be interested in doing some art techniques. They will be varied and on a mixed media basis. Since there was some interest in doing those, I got busy and started putting some techniques together. These are just simple projects to hopefully inspire them and motivate them to try other things that are out their comfort zone. This is the first one, the i
A new book!! 2008-09-11 16:43:00 Last December 8th, my friend Colleen Babcock, posted information about a Christmas craft book she just knew we all needed a copy of. (shame on her) Click here to see another book to add to your "must have" list. What a great book it is and of course had to have it and it is worth every page to have it my library. It's full of great easy to do projects. From simple but
A Charity Project 2008-09-10 00:22:00 This past week I spent working on a project for one of our local hospitals. They are calling it the T.L.C. Packages and they are for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Victoria General Hospital. I quote " Each year, up to 600 babies, many premature and /or medically fragile, from Victoria, Vancouver Island and across B.C. receive specialized medical care from Victoria General Hospital's Neonat Read more:Charity

Rithets Bog Walk 2008-09-06 22:30:00 Today we decided that we would do one of the walks that was in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago. It was listed as "EASY"...Well yes, the walk itself was pretty easy except for one spot that is uphill coming back for close to a mile. It levels off a wee bit but that's only to fool you into thinking that there's no more uphill. I hate uphill now. I used to think it was good exercise, but I have s
Update on Ms. Peacock 2008-09-04 08:53:00 A while ago I posted pictures of Ms. Peacock
that I entered in the Hoffman Challenge for this year. Although I didn't win a prize, I did win of sorts. She's one of the dolls that's been chosen to travel in the trunk show for the next year. I don't know what shape she'll be in after all that moving around, but it's pretty special to have her chosen none the less. For those of you who have had that Read more:Update
Don't do as we did !! 2008-09-01 16:22:00 So yesterday being Sunday and a nice day to go for a walk. We headed out to Gonzales Bay (the east side of Victoria), intending to find and walk a trail hubby was told about... NOT ! Couldn't find where it was, so we pressed on. We were going to walk up the road to MT. Tolmie but that didn't work out either, so MT. Doug sounded like a challenge... The intention as I said, was to walk along a maint

Microsoft Live Writer 2008-08-23 21:27:00 I just bet I'm the last one to know about this, but if not, I hope to save someone else the aggravation I've been having with the blogger posting feature. I don't know about you, but when I spend my time trying to make sure that I have everything in my posts just how I want them, and then I go to the preview feature....it looks nothing like I set it up as. Then I set about trying to adjust things Read more:Microsoft

A Good Day 2008-08-23 21:13:00 The other day was just one of those days that you would like more of. I walked to town for my exercise, did my shopping, stopped into a couple of shops to say hello to the shop owners, share a cup of tea and headed home. A great one hour of walking plus between stores. Then I got busy in the garden for an hour and a half of heavier yard work. You know the kind, cutting back all those things that w Read more:Good Day
Mushroom Soup and More 2008-08-22 16:49:00 Are there any mushroom fanciers out there....?? We just learned about a mushroom called Chanterelle's. They are not a readily accessible as fresh mushrooms as far I understand, please correct me if I'm wrong. You can find them in small packages, dried. You will have to re-hydrate them. The package we got has a recipe in it for mushroom soup, so far be it from me to not try it. It is very good I mu Read more:Mushroom
Geo Caching 1 2008-09-29 17:56:00 We haven't been geocaching for ages. Bet you're scratching your head and wondering what the heck I'm talking about, and others just sat straight up in their chairs because they know exactly what I meant. Geo caching simply put is like going on a treasure hunt. You visit the geocaching site (the link is on the left column of my blog, scroll down a little way) plug in your postal code, and up pops a
Last remarks re: the Hoffman Challenge 2008-09-25 09:08:00 Having never entered a "big" contest before, of course I was bound to make mistakes. I got the judges comments back and feel very good about them. I do however understand now where I might have done better and stood a chance at winning a prize. I post this information only for others like myself who have never entered a big contest or are thinking about doing so. To me it's very im Read more:Challenge
More New Books!! 2008-09-21 13:20:00 A couple of posts ago, I posted the cover of a new book. In that time I spoke with Colleen and she is the reason I now have another one in the series by this author. I won't say it's entirely her fault, but certainly she deserves some of the blame. The first one I saw was the Crafting Christmas Gifts....Excellent book for quick easy but oh so perfect gift giving. Full of unique gifts or a rebirth Read more:Books
Gypsy Challenge Doll 2008-09-18 17:10:00 Well my doll is finished and will be getting sent off tomorrow. She turned out great I think. I fashioned her after a vintage post card I found on the net while researching Gypsies. According to my mother, there were Gypsies in our family somewhere along the way. I have no way of finding that out for sure, but I'll go with the idea that there were. My doll is named after my grandmother, Franziska. Read more:Challenge

Gowlland Tod Provincial Park 2008-09-13 20:07:00 Today was such a nice day, sunny and bright and so out the door just after 10 to hike another trial. This one wasn't so hard. The trail is wider and more used, but there are some spots you still have to be careful of. Rocky areas and some slippery areas to because of dried leaves, pine needles and the ground itself being so dry. This is the start of the trail....looks nice doesn't it. The trai
