How to Make Your Sewing Look Professional 2007-04-20 19:47:00 One of the great things about crafting is that you can save money by making your own items or, if you are good enough, you can even turn your craft into a small business and make some money. Of course, when you are starting out with a new hobby you are likely to make some mistakes and create items that you can be proud of but that you won't find at eye-level in your local fashion outlet just yet Read more:Sewing
Paper Baskets 2007-04-20 19:36:00 The Little Craft Box blog has provided the instructions for creating some fun little baskets. In the case of their blog, they created two paper baskets just large enough to hold some oranges.
This is definitely a low cost project as it only requires some thin card and some glue. You will also want to use crayons, felt pens or something similar to decorate the baskets with your own design. Read more:Baskets
Make Your Own Bunny Rabbit Ears 2007-04-20 19:28:00 I just missed Easter with this link but never mind, kids like to play dressing-up throughout the year and a bunny rabbit is a good fancy dress costume.
Easter Crafts and Recipes provide the instructions this time to create your own bunny ears with simple materials. Only some small pieces of coloured felt and a child's sized headband are required.

A Bunch of Origami Flowers 2007-04-19 23:08:00 Three origami posts in one today. One of my favourite sites for paper-folding is Origami Instructions. I have posted several links to their site previously (and they appear in my favourites list too).
Each of the links below is really a small project in its own right. Each gives a set of folding instructions for a different type of flower. Click the link for your favourite or visit all three Read more:Bunch

Sock Monkey 2007-04-19 22:59:00 While I am on the topic of odd creations (see Little Green Men), here is another funny little creature. This pattern, provided by craftbits.com is a Sock Monkey.
I would say more but I am baffled by it all!

Little Green Men 2007-04-19 22:44:00 OK, I don't really know what these little guys are all about. mochimochiland.com have provided a free knitting pattern for Grass. They are odd little fellows to be sure but kind of cute.
I will let you all make up your own minds!

Duct Tape Wallet 2007-04-19 00:00:00 I have seen wallets constructed from simple duct tape for sale on various web sites for as much as £10 each. Not bad profit one would imagine!
Well, now you can create your own duct tape wallet using (wait for it) common duct tape! The instructions for this simple and cheap project can be found at Cut Out and Keep.

Undervalued and Under Priced Craft Items 2007-04-18 23:35:00 Michele at Blog About Craft
s has written an interesting article.
One of the problems with craft work as a small business, generally a one-person business, is the pressure to sell items quickly. There is apparently nothing worse than putting an item up for sale that you have worked your fingers to the bone producing, only to find that nobody buys it immediately. The pressure builds to lower the Read more:Items
Baby Yoda Hat 2007-04-18 21:38:00 I couldn't resist posting a link to this small project, especially after finding it only days after posting the Baby Yoda Sweater link.
This project is to create a hat (to go with your sweater). The hat is a simple cap design with attached Yoda ears. Put the two Yoda projects together and you have your very own Jedi master!

Bleach Stencilled T-Shirts 2007-04-17 21:23:00 Cre.ations.net has provided an interesting use for those tired old T-shirts, or even for new T-shirts from the cheap rack at the shop.
Using a cardboard stencil or template and a spray bottle containing dilute bleach you can create a funky design. A word of warning though, make sure you don't over-spray onto anything valuable!

Clay Geisha Doll 2007-04-16 23:27:00 This project is something that requires a reasonable level of skill. Cut Out and Keep, one of my favourite sites, has provided the instructions for the creation of a clay model of a Geisha, the traditional Japanese entertainers.
The doll is made from modelling clay and synthetic (or real if you can stand the pull) hair. Some material will be required for clothing and some acrylis paints for
Clay Pot Frog 2007-04-15 18:57:00 I am not sure whether this project creates a garden ornament or a toy but it sure looks fun!
All you need to make your very own frog is a terracotta pot, a wooden ball, two pompoms and some paint and glue. You may also want to include some fun foam and self-adhesive googly eyes but these are optional items.

Napkin Folding 2007-04-15 18:50:00 Ever been to a restaurant and, like me, been more interested in the shape of the napkins rather than the contents of the menu? (OK, for a short while anyway!)
Origami Instructions has gone slightly off topic with napkin rather than paper-folding instructions. There are three designs to choose from, the simple but elegant pyramid, the old favourite bishop's hat and the slightly more Read more:Folding
Guitar Pick Jewellery 2007-04-15 00:28:00 Cut Out and Keep has produced some instructions for creating charms from shrink-plastic in the shape of guitar picks. These are great for charm bracelets but can also be used for other forms of jewellery such as necklace pendants or earrings.
I have not tried this idea as yet so cannot vouch for the usability of the finished article as a true guitar pick. However, they do look funky!

Make a Yo-Yo 2007-04-14 20:11:00 The yo-yo is one of the oldest toys that is still available to purchase in every toy shop. It is thought to have originated in Asia in 400-500BC. Most modern yo-yos are simple mass-produced plastic items that are not particularly durable. It is quite rare to find good quality wooden yo-yos.
Tom Kuhn has written an interesting article with instructions for making your very own wooden yo-yo
Baby Yoda Sweater 2007-04-14 11:22:00 This may well be the funniest craft idea I have seen for a very long time, but that doesn't make it any less useful. DogsStealYarn.com have published an ingenious, simple, quick-to-knit wrap sweater for babies from newborn to six months in the style of the Jedi master, Yoda.

Fabric Colour Changes 2007-04-13 20:19:00 This is one job that I have to admit to being poor at.
Whenever I attempt to dye material, rather than achieving a smooth colour change and a fabric ready for working with I actually end up with the same hippy tie-dye almost without fail.
Recently I came across a post on the 'Sheep Geek' blog. The article gives a step-by-step guide to re-colouring and includes lots of photographs to show the Read more:Fabric

Origami Swan 2007-04-13 20:12:00 The first origami I ever learned was a simple swan. I remember being over the moon that I had created something so lovely with only a white square of paper. Origami Instructions have reproduced the swan instructions, exactly as I remember them. I am sure that my mother was equally happy for me to get so much enjoyment from a piece of A4 copier paper.
I even remember taking the strip that was
Miwa Koizumi PET Project 2007-04-12 21:51:00 Miwa Kauzumi is an Asian artist who has created many beautiful works. I find some of her creations using PET (polyethylene terephthalate, a type of plastic used in making food and drink containers) to be incredibly beautiful. The image above is taken from her PET project. the image below is from her aquarium.

Fun Crafts for Free 2007-04-12 00:00:00 During the holidays it can be difficult to keep the young ones occupied (without resorting to Grand Theft Violent Murder 3 on the XPlayCube). I always like to keep a look out for cheap and cheerful ideas for crafting to expand their minds in a much more positive way.
Adeina has published the first of three posts for free (or nearly free) crafting ideas. The event mentioned may be over but the Read more:Crafts
Origami Links 2007-04-11 23:33:00 Origami is good, clean and ridiculously cheap fun for the kids over the Easter holidays. All you need is some reasonably good quality paper and some instructions and the little people will be entertained for hours. Throw in some nice coloured paper sheets for that extra appeal.
There are a lot of companies selling instructions for making models using the paper-folding skills of origami. There
Soap Dipped Roses 2007-04-11 23:21:00 "These make wonderful little guest soaps and look lovely in your bathroom too. These soap dipped roses are wonderful gifts for loved ones to you, and exfoliate the body at the same time. You can even drop these into the bath tub for lovely floating soap effect."
This page describes how to create some funky soap roses using very few ingredients, just some silk roses and your favourite soap recipe Read more:Roses
The Magic Robot Cross-Stitch Generator 2007-04-11 00:15:00 The MagicRobotCross

Bubble Art 2007-04-21 23:18:00 What do you get when you cross paint and washing up liquid?
Well, if you mix in a little paper you get bubble painting! Great fun for the children or for creating scrap-booking paper.
Kid Buckaroo have posted this article on bubble painting. As the name suggests, it is basically painting with bubbles. I am sure this will keep the kids amused for hours. Make sure to cover everything in sight Read more:Bubble
Where Are You? 2007-04-21 14:19:00 I thought it might be interesting to find out where the crafters who visit this blog are so I signed up with Google Analytics. Recycled Rainbow Crayons 2007-04-21 13:43:00 Adeina has come up with a great way of using all of the left over pieces once that packet of wax crayons has been used. In this post she describes how she uses a mini-muffin pan in a low-heat oven to melt down the remaining pieces of coloured wax and reform them into rainbow crayons.
If anyone has found a good shaped baking tray or other utensil than can be placed in the oven to make more Read more:Recycled

Make Your Own Rub-On Transfers 2007-04-21 13:23:00 I have often sat for hours with a pack of Letraset rub-on letters or shapes, carefully positioning the letters, using a biro or lolly stick to make sure I have got every last bit of the letter onto my paper and then run out of the letter I need the most before the project is complete. This can be infuriating!
Well, no more should I have this problem after Debbie's great post at Scrapbooking Read more:Transfers
Hobbit's Doll House 2007-04-23 19:43:00 This doll's house has to be seen to be believed. This unnamed girl has created a doll's house based upon the Hobbit
's house in Lord of the Rings. The quality is excellent and the amount of skill and work that must have gone into the design and creation is astonishing.
