The New Year 2008-12-31 00:00:00 I was just about to start this post with "Now that Christmas has passed..." but it seemed familiar. It was almost exactly the same as my last post, "Now that we're half-way between Christmas and..." I can't start my posting that way, but how do I start it?Oh, it's already started. So, here's another post-Christmas goodie. What did you get for Christmas? Here is a graph of the things my true love ga
Happy Holidays 2008-12-28 14:36:00 Now that we're half-way between Christmas and New Year's Day and the final day of Hanukkah is upon us, I'll take this opportunity to wish everyone happy holidays.I hope that your Christmas was festive and not without the love and sharing that the holiday prescribes.I hope that the oil in your lamps lasts a miraculously long time in these financially difficult times. It is also my hope that everyone Read more:Happy

FINALLY - a post 2008-12-16 06:46:00 It's been a while since I've posted. However, I've not been idle. I thought I'd add a few photos of some of the things I've been doing. However, since I'm a teacher, I have to do it in a silly teacher sort of way.Joe went to the country, and this what he saw:From Recent photosHe saw a farming church; cabbage ready for harvest.Joe went to the country, and what did he see? From Recent photosHe saw
Life Magazine and Google 2008-11-25 07:06:00 Life Magazine
has partnered up with Google
to create Life Photo Archives which have literally millions of images from the magazine's archives. It is an amazing set of pictures. Search Korean images for some eye-opening and gut-wrenching images of the Korean War.But keep in mind that they are images of war, and as such, are upsetting. Here's a few of the tame ones.US withdraws Army from Korea after
WTF news story of the week 2008-11-25 06:19:00 I know it is a few days old, but when I read this story
at the Korea Times, I couldn't believe it.I read it again over at Brian in Jeollanam-do's page and it still made me so mad that I couldn't even formulate words to respond. The Korea Times' title. "Court Ruling on Rapists Draws Anger," doesn't do the story justice. I like Brian's title to the story much better: Extended family members lo

and thought you'd check out my blog, welcome. If you didn't hear me there, why don't you click on over and give it a listen. Joe, Jen, and I have a nice chat about this and that. My episode is sandwiched between two shows filled with Korean blogosphere's big guns. Last week was Super Party Blowout featuring Stafford Lumsden (The Chosun Bimbo), Regina Walton (Whe

Literally, I was so close that I had to duck a few times to miss the acrobats. In fact, I'll show you where we're seated:Yeah, it says the wheel cha
Anyangcheon and Omokyo tunnel 2008-11-02 09:11:00 With these and the next several posts, click on the picture and get a bigger size. You may have to re-size the image to make it fit your screen. Sorry for there being so many posts, but blogger wasn't working right, soI posted them directly from Picasa. Unfortunately, Picasa only allows four at a time. These had been spread out all over the field. Then someone put them all in a cluster, and I sus Read more:tunnel
Along Anyangcheon, part 2 2008-11-02 08:50:00 There is a bike path that goes along both sides of the creek. On the far side, it goes all the way to Anyang, if not further. Along the way, there are various sports facilities. They had a nice field of cosmoses (I never thought of that word being plural) and of course with a field of flowers, you need scare crows. The moon in the very corner of the picture was an accident.Or was it?
pics along Anyangcheon 2008-11-02 08:48:00 Dusk had already passed when these photos were taken. Thank God for the image stabilizer, as most of these pics were taken at 1/10 of a second or slower.A cyclist is riding by in this pic, you can just make out the blur in the foreground. This is look back towards guro. The next picture is pretty much the same, but without the cyclist. All white that you see in the sky are insects. I was standing Read more:along
Kotesol and Halloween 2008-10-30 09:49:00 Ok, I admit it. I’ve become somewhat of a lazy blogger as of late. I’ve been suffering from a bit of a lack of inspiration. Sadly, this is not limited to blogging, but my teaching as well. And my writing. And exercise. I’ve lost my mojo. Can you help Joe find his mojo?My friend John flew to Korea for a week, got married, and returned to Canada. Sounds like some sort of holiday, doesn’t Read more:Halloween
2008 Kotesol International Conference 2008-10-30 09:15:00 I really didn't take many pictures. Here are just a few that I did manage to take.My next post will have more on the conference.SaturdayI didn't take pictures, but check out Jason's blog post for many wonderful pictures. The poor volunteer in this picture had the worst job. It was quite chilly in the morning, then windy, then rainy. She stood dutifully in that spot all day Saturday and Sunday. Read more:International
Obama vs. McCain 2008-10-17 02:37:00 I got this email sent to me the other day, and after watching that video on Mike Hurt's blog, I thought I'd add it here. Some of you who know me, know that in a past incarnation, I was quite interested in politics. I even have a degree in it. It was while working on a senatorial campaign that I had to take the video tape that a high school student had been making and edit out a great deal of hi Read more:McCain

Things learned 2008-10-14 00:16:00 If you standing and waiting for an elevator, and that elevator happens to be located next to the toilets, one learns just how many (or how few) people wash their hands after doing their business.
job opportunity 2008-10-12 08:35:00 Oh, by the way, Sookmyung's General English Program is hiring. At this point, we won't be posting an ad on Dave's; we'll start with word of mouth references. Happenings and ramblings 2008-10-12 01:03:00 It's a new week. September saw pretty light postings, and now that we're into a new month, I don't want to fall into any bad habits. Let's see, what happened last week.I had a little run-in with the police. I was the second of three cars driving around a corner. Half-way through the corner and noticed that the crosswalk light was actually red. (not an intersection, but just a corner near a par Read more:Happenings
Ah, nuts 2008-10-05 00:31:00 I learned something today. If you don't have walnuts, hazelnuts and pecans work just fine, if not better, for making banana nut bread.I started making the batter, then checked my walnut supply and there was no supply. I dug through the 2.5 pound jar of "Extra Fancy Gourmet Nuts--no peanuts" from Costco to find some pecans. Someone else must have beat me to it because I only could get about eight

Some changes to my Korean Blog List 2008-10-03 10:06:00 It's been quite a while since I made any changes
to my Korean
Blog list. There were some on there that I had not looked at in a couple of years. Time for them to go. Over the past year, I have started reading a number of blogs that are really quite good. Most readers of Korean blogs are already familiar with most of them, but here are just a few that have just found their way onto my list:Fatmans
Zepptember has flown by 2008-09-30 04:20:00 Here we are at the end of the month; I look back at my pitiful number of posts. There are a number of things in play causing this. One is motivation. I’ve lost my blogging mojo as of late. Perhaps that is due to the fine weather we’ve been having. Though it has been unseasonably warm for September, it’s been beautiful. It’s hard to sit in front of a computer when it is so nice out.
Ass Man 2008-09-15 20:14:00 I have no idea where this picture came from. It is too small for me to have taken it with my camera, unless I took it with my phone cam. Did I steal it from someone else?Update: It seems this is a brand of shirts. Pics have been floating around Flickr for a while. Here is one, Here is another. Oh, here's one more. It also seems to be not just a Korea thing, but the shirt has been spotted in Ja
New pics added 2008-09-13 09:28:00 I've added some new pics to my flickr page and many pics on the picasa web album. Check them out on the sidebar. Many of them are the same pics. The Picasa album is easier to upload, but more difficult to share, and there is no monthly limit for a free account. That is why there are a ton more pics there. Here's one from On the Border.
