Water-Proof LCD TV In Your Aquarium
2007-04-20 10:45:07
I had to do a double-take when i saw this picture at this website. The first things that came to my head was… 1. there’s a tv in the fish tank. 2. there’s a tv in the fish tank. 3. there’s a TV IN THE FISH TANK! okay…I didn’t know they made water-proof tv’s. I guess logically the best way to show off how waterproof it is, is to put it in a fish tank. The LCD TV in the picture is the 17″ Taka Widescreen LCD TV from Bodlan Electronics. Did I tell you that it’s in a fish tank? haha! So I then was thinking, if there’s a tv in the fish tank when there should be fish, why not use a fish screensaver and you have a easy to take care fish tank. Then I thought that wouldn’t really work. I’m not sure where else you would want a waterproof TV. In the pool? Have a great weekend everyone!

I was watching tv and saw that Osh Hardware stores are having a Tax-Free Weekend ! This would be a good time to stock up on any fish supply parts that you have been planning but have been procrastinating. like me. Let’s see what i need. Probably alot of plumbing parts like PVC pipes cause I’ll be re-doing my plumbing layout soon. I guess I could get a new night light bulb since it’s been about 5 years now since I got the last one. And I’m sure i’ll find other stuff.

Fishless Cycle
2007-04-19 10:17:33
Introduction Before we can have a discussion of fishless cycle, we need to make sure everyone understands what we mean by the term “cycle.” The Nitrogen Cycle is the most important thing we need to understand as fishkeepers. It’s chemically a very complicated process, but here’s the Cliff’s Notes version. Fish produce ammonia (urine), the problem is that ammonia is very toxic. Now, in nature, the currents in the water just carry the waste away until it’s processed. In the home aquarium unfortunatly, we don’t have that luxury, what we do have however, is millions of little allies. Those allies are in the form of bacteria, probably of the genus Nitrosomonas, these bacteria take the bad ammonia and convert it to nitrite. Great huh? Not really. Nitrite is just as, if not more toxic than, ammonia, so the process repeats itself, just with a new set of bacteria, probably from the genus Nitrobacter, and the end product is nitrate which is far less toxi

Shower Start - Conserve Water. Save Money
2007-04-19 09:56:46
Lately I’ve been more interested in finding different ways to help the environment and saving money. You get a good feeling from being able to help save the environment and yet at the same time, able to save some money. So I’m always looking for a new way to do that even if it’s just something small (cause every lil’ bit helps). According to the website it helps you save water and money everytime you take a shower. Everyone lets the water run while it warms up and what this does is once it detects that the water is hot enough, it’ll show down the flow until you get in (or are ready to get in) and then you push a button to start the flow again. It can save you over $75 a year in wasted water costs. I think I might buy one to test out and then post a review about it later. It sells for $39.95 and it should pay for itself within a few months.

How Many Fish Can You Keep In A Fish Tank?
2007-04-18 09:52:39
Many times when starting a tank, the most popular and very important question is: How many fish can I keep in my aquarium? Of course there are many problems with over-stocking an aquarium such as insufficient oxygen, lack of space etc. Most of our exotic fish will take a lot of punishment before coming to the surface to whisper their complaints by breathing atmospheric air. They can be overcrowded without any such demonstration. Many times the aquarium is in beautiful condition but the fish do not grow. This brings out the fact that the fish have neither enough “elbow room” nor oxygen and sometimes underfed. The rule of thumb I have heard many times is “1 inch of fish to 1 Gallon of water”. This, however, is only a rule of thumb, and many times it is hard to apply it to a specific fish. For example, let’s compare a 3″ neon tetra, 3″ discus, 3″ tiger barb, 3″ betta, and 3″ cichlid. Each fish has different requirements. A 3&Prim

Feng Shui For Your Aquarium
2007-04-17 09:07:02
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of achieving harmony with specific placement of certain objects in your house or office. How does this pertain to you and especially your fish tank? A person according to Feng Shui has an energy source called Qi. Qi is the person’s “energy” and can be affected postively or negatively by their surroundings. Luck, health and prosperity are usually the main focus for Feng Shui. Having a fish tank or aquarium can help increase positive Feng Shui in your life. It is said that it can help increase wealth and luck by having one in your house or office. The main belief is to have 8 goldfish (as gold symbolizes wealth/luck) and 1 black fish (to absorb any bad luck). Most common fish tanks practicing this belief uses goldfish. I have a goldfish tank in my office. Keeping a tank of 9 fishes in your office/home sounds simple but requires much more. In order for a good flow, you need to keep your tank cleaned and to make sure your aquari

Lil’ Romeo Is Playing Basketball For USC Trojans
2007-04-17 09:06:25
Something that you might not know about me is that I follow USC (University of Southern California Trojans ) Sports as I graduated from there years ago. This will be my first post relating to USC as football season hasn’t started yet and that’ll be when you’ll start to see alot of posts. haha. Anyways…for those who follow college basketball know that the USC basketball coach Tim Floyd signed one of the top players in the nation for next year’s class in O.J. Mayo. That guy is a superstar. Too bad he’s probably one and done (meaning one year of college and then off to the nba). but never fear b/c we have Lil’ Romeo ready for us after that. Wait..I think it’s just Romeo now right? No lil’? like how Lil’ Bow Wow is now Bow Wow? Anyways, when I was told about this, I thought it was a hoax but FoxSports confirmed it. This isn’t a joke, either. Percy “Romeo” Miller is putting his career on hold for a while. Ro

Follow His Happy Nutrisystem Diet
2007-04-17 09:05:27
Thanks to Mr. Happy at HappyAsianGuy.com for adding a link to MFT on his site. I figured that since he was the first one to do a linkback here, I’d write a short review for him as a thanks. Mr.Happy has a pretty new site but has a really interesting way of writing that makes it entertaining in his quest to eat less and lose weight. It’s actually funny to a point where I can relate to his struggles to start his diet but can’t start just yet. (been trying to lose a few pounds since the cruise i went on) Since the site is so new, it’s just started to talk about his Nutrisystem Diet plan which means I started reading just in time. (who likes to get involved in a story in the middle?). He decided between multiple diet plans such as Medifast, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and more and has done his research and looks like the Nutrisystem Diet program is what he’s going to start off with. I also like to read blogs that have lots of pictures and he does take pic

Ring of Rose Anemones Picture
2007-04-16 15:50:55
current count I think is 9 rose anemones currently in my tank. 4 of them are clones and the rest were purchased at my local fish store for varying prices that range from $60-99 dollars. I personally think roses should be currently priced at about $60. A few years ago when rose anemones were scarce and literally impossible to find, this would be one valuable tank. haha. i still remember seeing the first rose anemone in my friend’s tank. Review MyFishTank.Net Linkback Promotion
2007-04-15 10:02:12
Following the tradition of bloggers worldwide, I’ve also decided to jump on the bandwagon and start a linkback promotion if you review MyFishTank.Net. What Do I Need To Do? It’s simple actually. If you have a blog/journal online (if you don’t click here to find out how), just write a short review of MyFishTank.Net approximately 100 words minimum. You then link back to this website with an anchor text Freshwater Aquarium Fish. An example would be: “I found this site that has alot of information about Freshwater Aquarium Fish if you are interested in keeping fish. The site also has a great community forum where members are very helpful and take the time to help you out.” Okay I wrote a review. What Do I Do Now? Email me or leave a comment below (get some free traffic while you wait!) with the URL and once I get 5 of these reviews, I’ll make a post linking back to you. I’ll even write a short blurb about your site. This will help you get more vis

Stuff I Got At The Fish Store This Weekend
2007-04-23 09:01:02
This weekend I finally got a chance to stop by my LFS and pick up some stuff. Here are some goodies that I picked up to add to my tank. Another Rose Anemone to add to my collection. I picked up 2 today but 1 went into hiding. this was a green anemone with red tips. It was huge and I haven’t seen this variation in awhile so i couldn’t pass it up. It’s currently hiding under a rbta. Crocea Clams all look the same to me so when I see something unique, I have to pick it up. It looks better at the store. haha

Make Money Online With A Blog
2007-04-23 08:01:13
So there’s this website I’ve been visiting for awhile (since last year). So when I came across his blog with a picture of a giant lobster (along with the fact that I’ve been watching Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel) I figured it was time I did that review about his site that I’ve been procrastinating on. In fact, I can tell you when I first came to his site - JohnChow.com. It was about the Biggest Google Whores back in September of 2006. It’s a list of people who are making alot of money online with Google Adsense. Ofcourse there are probably many others that are successful but not on that list but it still gives you a glimpse of the possibilities out there. So that’s how I got hooked on his site and I’ve seen it grown to where it is today is pretty amazing. His blog now is about how to make money online and it’s not a rehash of information. It’s attracted quite a large following to the point where he’s been in maga

Diet For Your Fish with NutriDiet Food
2007-04-26 09:21:50
We don’t eat the same thing everyday otherwise it would get really boring and depending on what we were eating, it would be really bad if we happened to be eating fast food everyday. But how about our fishes? How many of us are guilty of feeding them the same food over and over again…every single day? I feed my fish mostly flake food for most of the week and once or twice a week, I’ll add a frozen cube of mysis shrimp for them. In my opinion, mysis shrimp is a bit more healthier and nutritional for them than brine shrimp (unless it’s live brine shrimp). I’ve tried buying live brine shrimp from my LFS but eventually it got a bit messy because you need to keep them in the fridge and it got a bit too much work. So frozen cubes work for me. They also get a treat here and there when I feed my anemone shrimp. So I think overall I give them a good variety of diet. But is it healthy? Enter in Seachem’s new NutriDiet food. NutriDietâ„¢ Naturals are the

Freshwater Snail Removal
2007-04-25 10:27:15
While you often hear hobbyists saying they can’t get rid of all the snails in their tank, having snails in your freshwater aquarium as a rule is actually quite beneficial. Most snails act as a “clean up crew” in the aquarium, eating excess food, decaying plant or fish matter, and moving gravel on the tank bottom. The problem with snails in an aquarium is that they reproduce very quickly, and can marr your beautiful tank by being stuck all over the glass and decorations. The real challenge is keeping the snail population in check. Snails are most often introduced into an aquarium through plants, gravel, or decorations that have moved from other tanks that have snails. While the snails themselves may be small, their eggs are even smaller! Unless you are willing to thoroughly clean everything before it goes into your aquarium, snails will eventually be introduced to your tank. Snail Eating Fish In most cases, this solution requires the least amount of work on your par

Floating Jellyfish Pool Light
2007-05-01 09:38:52
now how cool is THIS? Forget the lights around your garden. if you have a pool, this is the way to stand out..and to show everyone how much of a fish nerd you are. This is the floating jellyfish pool light. according to the website…. All show and no sting, these battery-operated Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights unleash a kaleidoscope of color as they float in the water. For larger pools, unleash a flotilla to create a crowd-pleasing effect. * Crafted of durable PVC * Realistic, fiber-optic tentacles emit a vibrant glow * Top changes colors throughout the light show * Controlled by a simple auto-off switch Uses four AA batteries (included). My only wish was for it to be solar-powered. That way you can leave it in the pool 24/7 and every night it’ll light up without having you to worry about changing out the batteries or turning it off and on.

Walmart Not Selling Live Fish
2007-04-30 21:28:04
Cichlid-Man pointed this out in his thread that an article a few months ago said that Walmart would no longer be selling fish at some of it’s US stores. Some bits from the article… The world’s largest retailer said it would stop selling live pet fish at some U.S. stores in response to consumer demand. Wal-Mart, which has more than 3,000 U.S. discount stores, declined to say how many stores would stop selling live fish and that it is “certainly” not abandoning the business. “You see too many floaters,” Chappell said of its displays. “You walk in there and there are a bunch of dead fish….It’s not that consumers don’t want fish, it’s just, in my opinion, it’s just consumers don’t want to buy fish there and it’s in large part because they don’t look particularly healthy,” Chappell said. Do You Buy Fish From A Chain Store Like Walmart? Yes. I buy them at Walmart, Target and/or ot

My Red Ear Slider Turtles From Chinatown
2007-04-30 09:03:03
I forgot to mention that I have a turtle tank. I have 2 turtles actually. 2 red-ear slider turtles. I got them probably like 4-5 years ago when I went to Chinatown to eat Dim Sum. I was walking around and saw these tiny turtles for sale and I had to get them. I actually got 4. Then I gave 2 away when they started to get kinda big. Turtles are like the easiest pets to keep. They always get all excited when you get close to the tank because they are happy to see you..or they are happy to see you b/c you feed them. One time the filter broke and I didn’t get a chance to fix it and yet they were as happy as if the filter was working. I feed them sparingly to keep them small. My friend has 2 also and feeds them everyday and they’re twice the size of mine. I hope one day to build a pond and give them a permanent home there.

USC Trojans NFL Draft 2007
2007-04-30 09:02:33
Isn’t that a great commercial? (Those who don’t know, Texans didn’t draft him #1 so the New Orleans Saints took him #2 (so his dig is just at the Texans haha). Last year was a great year for Trojan fans. This year, not so great but here were the Trojans that were drafted…. Dwayne Jarrett - 2nd Round: Carolina Panthers Jarrett joins an all-star class of USC Trojans receivers. Keyshawn Johnson and Keary Colbert are already there along with the wrong Steve Smith (now there are 2 Steve Smith’s in the NFL) Steve Smith - 2nd Round: New York Giants Eli Manning can thank Steve Smith for saving his job. Ryan Khalil - 2nd Round: Carolina Panthers Solid pick up for the Panthers. I guess I might have a new favorite NFL team. Was hoping Arizona Cardinals picked him up so he could snap to Matt Lienart again just like in college. Dallas Sartz - 5th Round: Washington Redskins Should be a immediate impact with special teams. Oscar Lua - 7th Round: New England Pa

Match.com Dating Site Review
2007-04-30 09:01:43

Using Fake Plants and Corals
2007-05-03 09:29:36
Sometimes we get really into our hobby and want to make everything as natural as possible. Real sand, real rocks, real plants, real corals and hopefully real fish. But sometimes using fake decor items such as fake plants and corals can accomplish the same effect without much effort. Ofcourse there are times when using fake decor is a good thing…such as a fish-only tank (where using real plants or corals would be an expensive way of feeding your fishes) or those who don’t have the time or passion to be fully-vested into this hobby and want a nice looking tank. Pros: - inexpensive way to have a “real” looking tank - less maintenance - no need to worry about the fake decor dying like real ones - less tank requirements (lighting, Co2, etc etc) Fake Plants The past few years I’ve seen the quality of the fake plants decor get better and better to the point where they almost look real and will last for a very long time. I currently use 2 groups of fake plants i

Top 5 Things Not To Do When Setting Up A Fish Tank
2007-05-02 09:35:50
1. Not Buying A Big Enough Tank Raise your hand if you wish you had a bigger tank than the one you started out with? This is what happens. You want a fish tank and you decide on a certain size tank (29 gallon for me) and think that’ll be big enough for everything you want to put in there. You set it up and get more into it and realize that the tank is too small. So you get a bigger tank. You realize again that it’s not big enough. Repeat. This is why many of us have MTS (Multiple Tank Syndrome). You can avoid this by looking around your place and finding out where you can put the largest tank possible before you even start. For the rest of us that already have multiple tanks? There is no cure for it. Sorry. But welcome to MyFishTank.Net online community where you can join the rest of us MTS’ers. 2. Rushing Into It You watch Finding Nemo and you want your own Dory and Nemo. So you go out and buy a tank and unfortunately things don’t usually go well if you go th

As some of you may have noticed, I have a MyBlogLog widget on the right side of the site. Basically it’s for bloggers worldwide as a tool to show who visited your site if they signed up for MyBlogLog. Not only is it great to getting new visitors, it’s always great to find new sites to read as Shane from AskShane.org mentioned here (thanks for the mention also!). I never thought of using MyBlogLog as a way to find new interesting sites to read but I was already doing that w/o even realizing it. So the past few weeks, I’ve built quite a list of sites to read (thank goodness for RSS!). So I thought I’d share some of the sites I found via MyBlogLog.com (I might go into more details later about them but here’s a quick list of linky love)… AskShane.org DoshDosh.com EverybodyGoTo.com Frankophilia.com FuzzyFuture.com HappyAsianGuy.com LeonChiang.com Kumiko Suzuki JohnChow.com JohnTP.com Samanathon.com Meridiancrest.com
