What's in the bag today?
2006-05-04 12:22:00
This is probably all over bloggerland already. A new (not very good) track by The Stills is available at Myspace. New album Without Feathers will be released on Tuesday May 9.+ DestroyerAdam from Canada (that's all I know) sent me a mail yesterday suggesting that I should check out the new versions of My Timekeeping Heart and RAMJAC on the Myspace page of Swedish band Convoj. And they are indeed different (and better) than the versions I posted previously, so thank you Adam for keeping me updated :-)+ My Timekeeping Heart+ RamjacAdam (yep - him again) also recommends Canadian alternative rock band Constantines. The band didn't make an immediate impact on me (the music is bit complex and takes a while getting used to), but the more I listen the better they get. So I have to agree with Adam that this is a talented and quite interesting band. Thanks again :-)+ Soon Enough Really good!+ Love In Fear+ ArizonaThe New York Fund (the band formerly known as The Cherryfalls) has uploaded two n

It's the first day of the new month, so (as usual) I'm quite busy at work. But of course there will be time for listening to some music and posting a song or two.+ Kni9hts - The Lost LakeI've mentioned this indie pop band before and I'm crossing my fingers hoping that they'll be signed very soon!+ Stickboy - Now Its All Gone + Pills For The PainNice indie pop band from Manchester. Recommended by Kni9hts.+ Built To Spill - Conventional WisdomI've just ordered You In Reverse. Free downloads ain't necessarily such a bad thing!

Juno Bell
2006-04-27 12:15:00
Earlier today I received a ”friend” request at Myspace from Danish rock quartet Juno Bell. Even though the band plays a kind of rock music I haven’t paid much attention to in recent years (influences include Pearl Jam, Incubus etc.), I’ve nonetheless decided to give the band a little exposure. Maybe because I have a soft spot for little known Danish artists, but also because I have to admit that their music isn’t bad at all (quite an understatement). So if you’re into American inspired rock I'm pretty certain that you'll like the music of Juno Bell as well!+ A Heart Eclipse Of Stone+ Run+ Gamma FlashTwo band members have recorded a few other songs under the name Madrigal. The music is a little more pop/acoustic and very, very good!+ Entitled To This one is absolutely wonderful!+ Headlong

Midweek musings
2006-04-26 21:18:00
I was really surprised by the number of people interested in the 80's songs yesterday, because the blog received nearly 600 hits, making it the most successful day by far. I thought most people owned several 80's compilation CD containing most of those songs anyway! But apparently that's not the case or people simply wanted to listen to the songs at work? Another 80's soundtrack is in the making. However it was quite a disappointment that hardly anyone had the "courage" to check out some of the lesser known bands mentioned here.Soundvenue reviews debut Everything All The Time by Band Of Horses and gives it 5 (out of 6) stars.Waiting for Peter to mention this song by Bombs Over Berlin, since he's the one who introduced me to the band in the first place. Sorry Peter, but I couldn't wait any longer, because I simply had to recommend this superb and very, very catchy new wave, pop song!+ Love Asylum2 unreleased songs by The Field Mice are available at Myspace.+ I Wish I Meant More To

Finally it's Friday :Chris has written a piece about his trip to London. As always this is good read. Chris, you really should update your blog more often. And check out some pictures from his trip here. The Oxygen Ponies have put up two more songs on their a/v section. Don't Know Why [MP3] is my favorite of the new ones. Pretty and emotional as always!I thought the album I had ordered by Campsite arrived yesterday, but when I opened the parcel I found an album by Hell Is For Heroes inside. I'm going to return the HIFH album asap. Listen to One Of Us [MP3] and you'll understand why!The creativity of people when it comes to naming their bands never ceases to amaze me. Next in line with a highly original band name are psychedelic shoegazers A Cricket In Times Square. Careless [MP3] and Cult Favorite [MP3] are two fairly nice ones.If you dare; check out the Danish album chart. What a joke! I guess you're right Peter. The German one sure isn't any better!Beacon Street Radiants is a rea

All the girls are sleeping and since I'm really tired I should be sleeping too. On the other hand the piece and quiet was a little too tempting, so I had to listen to some music before going to bed. So I've done a little searching and the first thing I came across was UK band The Electric Mainline. I love the way the band describe its music; "we make modern psych garage, experimental and noisy, drony indie rock". That kind of music sounds like this - I guess? We Are Now [MP3]Next stop Sweden. Where else do you go these days if you want to hear wonderful indie pop? Citylights is next in the incredible long line of virtually unknown (but still great) Swedish bands.Put It Out [MP3]Reset [MP3]zzzzzzzzzzz - goodnightoh well - before you go to bed listen to What We Know Inside [MP3] by The Ascent. A quiet and pretty way to end the day!

Today I'm listening to...
2007-04-24 09:30:00
The 2004 self-released album Unbelonging by Danish one-man project Mushi (though it was actually called Mushy back then). The list of influences is quite an interesting read and includes just about everything (and everyone) from Cabaret (genre) over Calexico to The Pixies. And it is indeed rather difficult fitting the music of Mushi into any specific category, but no matter what genres are being added to the mix, the fine melody lines are always present underneath it all, which makes listening to the album a pleasant and highly entertaining experience. And of course I should mention that the entire album is available for free right here.+ Grease Monkey+ Elise And The Guardian Angel+ The NightcrawlerA new album called Unfairytales was released last month, but no songs are currently available for free (but five new and really good ones can be streamed here). I'll get back to that album, if/whenever a track (or two) can be legally shared.

Buildings, Trees and a Bahnhof...
2007-04-23 18:30:00
Some will probably recall that I mentioned Danish alternative/electronic rock band Bahnhof quite a few times last year, because I had fallen absolutely in love with the track Tanktop Girl? Since then the band has been signed to new Danish label Strange Ears and the band's debut full-lenghter called Reverse will be released May 7. Four album tracks have been uploaded to Myspace with one of them being a free download.+ A Brighter Day9 tracks by friendly Swedish indie pop/americana (the band uses the term americana-indie) quartet Buildings & Trees are available for free from the band's webpage. This is really nice and fairly laid-back stuff that should please fans of bands like The Magic Numbers, The Lucksmiths etc.+ Little Wonders+ Without the Light

Nothing but music - the endless post?
2006-10-02 11:21:00
In this post I'll re-post some of the songs I've mentioned before in the blog or simply some of the stuff I've found that I find interesting, but have no time to write about. None of the songs are hosted by Myspace, which has pretty much turned into a disaster!IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED IF YOU'D CHECK OUT THE REST OF THIS BLOG, ONCE YOU'VE DOWNLOADED THE SONGS YOU WANT.....+ Aberdeen City - God Is Going To Get Sick Of Me+ Against Me! - Don't Lose Touch+ The Airfields - Leaps And Bounds+ Airiel - Kiss Me Slowly+ The Alpine - Trigger (A.T.O.C. remix)+ Anamia - Butterfly In Paris+ Anotherstory - Plans+ The April Skies - Rise & Rise Again+ Arab Strap - Where We've Left Our Love+ The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)+ The Arrogants - Don't Die Before Your Day+ Ash - Meltdown+ Asobi Seksu - I'm Happy But You Don't Like Me+ Asobi Seksu - Strawberries (Cassettes Won't Listen remix) + Asobi Seksu - Walk On The Moon+ Avocadoclub - Too Much Space To Walk Away+ Bahnhof - Tanktop Girl+ Th

The Steadies - New EP
2007-04-30 09:07:00
Wonderful UK indie pop band The Steadies has uploaded the 4 new tracks from the band's forthcoming EP to Myspace (as free downloads of course). These are really friendly people and promise to send the EP to anyone interested, once the sleeve is finished. So if you love gorgeous, laid-back and utterly beautiful indie pop with acoustic guitars, flute, violins etc.; look no further. Below I've posted two of the new tracks (and you can find two more here).+ How I Did Wonder+ Elegance In Defeat

Today's Last.fm recommendation...
2007-04-27 22:08:00
was To The Bright and Shining Sun by Irish band The Walls. Since I was familiar with the band, but not the song, I decided to give it a listen (and I'm glad I did). This absolutely brilliant up-tempo indie rock track was one of the singles found on the band's 2005 album New Dawn Breaking. Apparently the album sold really well on the home market, and if the rest of the album is as good as the two singles below; I'm not at all surprised.+ To The Bright and Shining Sun+ To The Bright and Shining Sun (acoustic version)+ Black & Blue

Goodies...
2007-04-26 11:45:00
I've lots of stuff that I'd like to post, but time is as always a very limited commodity these days (look at the burden I have to carry). So here are the songs and hopefully I'll be able to add a few comments during the day...+ Tilde vs SuperTroels - Toss Away (SuperTroels Remix)SuperTroels was rather pissed off yesterday (to say the least), because a Danish blog (which now has been deleted) had made the entire I Know That You Know album available for free. As a blogger I can only support free downloads of a few tracks, but the artists still have to make a living, so I can never support actions like that! Should add that his album is pretty good, so I can only recommend that you buy it!+ Pete White - The Light & Friction Makes FireThat UK singer/songwriter Pete White is one of my favorite artists is probably one of the world's worst kept secrets. He's been in the studio and re-recorded a couple of old tracks and in his own words: "finally got a dark version of friction makes fire

TF vs. JT
2007-04-25 11:53:00
Once again I'm really busy, so I only have time to post a quick one from the mailbox. Swedish singer Tobias Fröberg covers What Goes Around by Justin Timberlake. This version is a lot (and despite the Swedish accent, I mean a LOT) more likeable than the original (probably because JT is second on my list of "least-favorite-artists").+ What Goes AroundThanks to It's A Trap for directing me to these two new (and really nice) ones by Swedish indie pop trio Double Dan.+ When The Sun Falls Down+ A Picture Of You

Songs...
2007-03-09 23:12:00
Today has been awful at work. And it didn't exactly get any better by having quite a few songs that I'd love to post. Here are the songs and hopefully I'll find a little time tonight to write a few comments....+ Spencer Tricker - Hey JessicaMore songs like this and chances are pretty good that he never has to get a real job one day (check his webpage for explanation).+ Professor Pez - Indiepopkids+ Professor Pez - Imperial AirwaysWas checking out a friend's profile over at Last.fm and noticed that he had been listening to this Norwegian indie pop band. And how can you not love a song called Indiepopkids?+ Fine China - Are You On Drugs?+ Fine China - I Can't Fall AsleepPreviously recommended by Peter and Chris. New songs and some mixed stuff...
2007-02-13 22:24:00
Below I've posted 5 new tracks found over at Myspace. The quality of the songs has indeed improved from the lowly 96 Kbps and the bitrates of the new songs are 128 Kbps or better. I still cannot figure out how to link directly to the songs (Chris is working on this), so I've had to upload the songs myself (hopefully no one minds?). The Myspace download function doesn't seem to be working perfectly, but hopefully they are trying to fix it, so we can return to "the good old days"!!!Shoegazers Tearwave from US has posted two new ones. The band has recorded a fine cover of The Church's Under The Milky Way and Read Me is a really great shoegaze inspired track (noisy guitars, dreamy vocals and stuff ). A full length CD has been recorded and that one should be a "must".+ Read Me+ Under The Milky WayAlaska (Chris' guinea pigs) from Sweden is one more band in the ever growing line of fantastic Swedish indie pop band. A new EP should be just around the corner, and hopefully the rest of the t

The Bastard Fairies...
2007-02-08 09:05:00
Download the entire 12 track album Memento Mori by US alternative, avant-garde, experimental (feel free to add whatever you think is appropriate) duo The Bastard Fairies for free here or here. The music has been described as "Suzanne Vega shtupping The Knife" by (((withoutsound))) and most pictures of female singer Yellow Thunder Woman (which I've read is a translation of her Indian name Wakinyan Zi Win) are rather, ahem (*blush*) interesting. The entire "concept" is certainly both weird and fascinating, though at first it leaves you with the impression that this is meant to be some kind of repulsive joke! But once you listen to the music you realize that it's surprisingly catchy, and much, much better than you ever expected it to be..+ A Venemous Tale+ Everyone Has A Secret+ Apple Pie

Murnau...
2007-02-07 15:47:00
Thanks to Fadeaway, Italian shoegaze/ alternative rock band Murnau caught my attention a while back and now the band's wepage (in Italian) is finally working again. 8 tracks (as well as a couple of live recordings) are free to download and all of them are well worth a listen. I don't understand a word Italian (not quite true - I actually understand the meaning of "molto bene"), but according to a message I've received from the band, all of the tracks are new recordings. The band has existed since 2004, is still unsigned (hopefully not for long) and lists the Post-Rock, Shoegaze (and a few other) genres in general as the main influences.Molto bene indeed!+ Come un fantasma+ Dentro Me+ Last Hope Sound

Friday evening.......
2007-01-26 20:18:00
The closing track Catch and Turn of the Green Concorde debut (Ten Cities) has been pumping on my stereo tonight, and since the band has granted me permission to post a track of the album in the blog, there really is no doubt in my head that this superb piece shall be the one. It's an epic/majestic track; sounding like something you'd expect to find exactly in-between Interpol and the shoegaze classics. Not sure if that description is any good, but the track is definitely worth a "right click" and 5 minutes of your time.+ Catch and TurnThanks to Fadeaway (go make him your friend!) I've been streaming Italian shoegazers Murnau a few times recently over at Myspace. It doesn't really matter that they are singing in Italian, because the music is awesome (especially Organico). I'm still hoping that they'll send me a few tracks to post.+ Goccia (no language barriers here, as this one is an instrumental)Celestial is releasing a 3 track single on Florida label Cloudberry Records on Februa

Shakin' The Tree....
2007-01-19 11:01:00
In his fine post on the Labrador label the other day, Chris forgot to post this beautiful one by Laurel Music.+ Dreams and LiesAnd I found another nice one by the same band over at Last.fm.+ Sacred HeartAnother fine one from the Labrador back-catalogue" overlooked" by Chris is Everything That's You by Airliner. It should be obvious to everyone by now that I'm a big fan of Labrador, but their webpage could easily be a bit (or rather a lot) more informative. The track is from the album The Last Days of August that I believe must be at least 3 years old (catalogue no. is LAB030 and they have just reached no. 100), but I'm not certain. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, when the song is as wonderful as this one.+ Everything That's YouEntakt entered the Danish album chart at no. 28. Can anyone help?Snowden has uploaded the album track Sisters to their Myspace profile, urging everyone to download and share it.+ SistersThanks to Falk/Darkerradio (don't know what he prefers) for recommending Canadian indie pop/rock band Red Orkestra. J.A. Recommends!
2006-11-23 09:52:00
This is getting more and more "insane". The flow of recommendations from J.A. just keeps growing, and I'm continuously baffled by the great quality of the songs and artists. I have no idea how he's able to keep finding new stuff, but he's sure damn good at it! Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to give each band a decent description/introduction (after all this is not a full-time job!), so instead I've decided to post the complete list of artists (plus a few songs) from J.A.'s recent mail and add a few of my thoughts during the day.+ Odgens - Face The TimeAlready posted by Peter and labeled "the German answer to Oasis".+ Bedroom Eyes - Blueprint for Departure + The Skywriter"Just" another Swedish indie pop band. We all should know by now what that means! Irresistible and catchy pop songs! The line-up for this year's Vesterbro Festival (June 15th & 16th) looks absolutely fantastic. Here's a list of the band's I plan/hope to be able to catch during the two-day festival (unless of course they play at 2 a.m. - I'm way too old to be staying up all night):+ 1 2 3 4 - Saddest+ A Kid Herafter - Boogiepunk+ BREUM - Ikke Bange+ Cinnober - Fate Is Out (To Get Me)+ Decorate.Decorate.+ The Elephants+ Entakt+ The Floor Is Made Of Lava+ Green Concorde+ Kind of girl+ Mushi+ Turboweekend+ Us With Millions+ Velour+ Volvoeand probably several others once I get familiar with their music. More songs, comments, thoughts etc. will be added along the way as well.
