Middle Name Tag
2007-09-08 03:49:49
It seems that tagging season have started again, I’ve been tagged for the second time in 10 days, this time by my mate Gazza. And for legal matters I have to post the rules, so here you go: You have to post these rules before you give the facts. You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog. Well, since arabs don’t use middle names, I’ll just use my dad’s name I guess ! Creative ? I know Middle name: Abdulatif (A) Astronaut is what I wanted to be while I was a child (Check the other “a” for the rest of this) (B) Bandwidth limit will kill me someday (D) Dubai is where half my family (dad’s side) live (U) Unite

Ciao Pavarotti
2007-09-06 13:26:31
It’s a sad day in Italy. It’s a sad day for opera lovers. It’s a sad day for the whole music industry. Luciano Pavarotti has died this morning in Modena, Italy after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71. This man has gone through a lot, 5 chemotherapies last year. For many, he was the symbol of opera, its world representative and face. Many only know him and charity will definately miss him. His biggest breakthrough came in Febuary 72 when he hit nine high C’s in an aria in the “The Daughter of the Regiment”. He never looked back and the sky was the limit. Well what can I say, RIP Luciano, you’re in a better place. Some can sing opera, Luciano Pavarotti was an opera. No one could inhabit those acrobatic melodies and words like him. He lived the songs, his opera was a great mash of joy and sadness; surreal and earthy at the same time; a great volcano of a man who sang fire but spilled over with a love of life in all its complexity

Usually I am against videos of American comedians be smalling other countries but this is funny ! And NO IT’S NOT because it’s making fun of Qatar ! I think that the ambassador almost lost it in couple of occasions ! I seriously thought that he would slap the crap out of Oliver Funny, Olivers Travels, The Daily Show

Facebook in the future
2007-10-09 05:54:10
With all the facebook-mania that’s taking over the world, we’re used to seeing pictures of our friends, family, the young hot and sexy, whatever we want basically. This is all a current-world view. Did you imagine what our pages might look like down the line (this could true for a few people now). The following image gives you a glimpse of how things might look like, that is if we decide to continue with this thing. Just click on the image to enlarge it. What am I doing wrong???
2007-10-09 05:34:36
This has nothing to do with me, all is wll here. This is rather funny and silly at the same time, sometimes a nice combination for starting the week or breaking a smile when we’re down. I could somewhat compare this to my “World’s Most Unique Party” post, but this one is more relevant to me as it has an investment twist to it. Long story short, this is a “marriage ad” that appeared on craigslist. What am I doing wrong? Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I’m articulate and classy. I’m not from New York. I’m looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all. Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes

Flaming Nano
2007-10-08 08:19:02
Since I am still on the iPod front, here is a funny story I bumped into while doing my rounds on the net: A Georgia man got a surprise recently when his iPod caught fire — inside his pants pocket. Danny Williams was working at a kiosk at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when he says he noticed “flames coming up to his chest.” It seems the year-old Nano he had in his pocket spontaneously combusted and the only thing that kept him from sustaining serious injury was a piece of paper in the same pocket that acted as a shield. Williams told Atlanta’s WSB-TV, “If [the] TSA had come by and seen me smoking, they could have honestly thought I was a terrorist.” Williams says Apple has offered to replace the Nano, and his mom notes she’s relieved it didn’t happen while he was sleeping or driving because the outcome could have been “much worse.” The guilty party ! Ermmm.. Hold on !!! It’s not exactly a good id

I am back !! The 2 weeks update !
2007-10-06 07:11:33
Ramadan, a couple of engagements with clients, Khalid’s return and Rafael Benitez’ s rotation policy are my excuses for not posting for the last couple of weeks. It’s been very hectic people !! And with a new special someone in my life (no it’s NOT you K) the drivel seems to be drying a bit lately. But fear not my friends we are back ! And I can hear you all going “Good lord ! Not them again” but.. but.. oh shut up moe and get into the post !!!! Anyhoo, Ramadan is nearing its end and we are going through the Last 10 days which is considered to be the toughest period of the month. What’s that saying that my mum keeps going on about now ? oh yeah it goes something like that ” 10 days burns the fat, 10 days purifies the flesh and 10 days is for the bones ” Still though Ramadan is fun, with the joy and peacefulness it brings. Oh and the grumpy sleepy mood that most seem to suffer from too. For some reason I can’t keep my eyes op

Back in Bahrain
2007-10-05 05:36:59
Am back in Bahrain after a year away and it feels good to be here. Traveling and the excessive work before that is what took me off the radar and am sure me being here took Moe off too. I honestly never appreciate how easy life can be until I actually set foot in the island. This is definitely due to the fact that working life in London isn’t the easiest thing in the world, although it is rewarding. An added bonus is it being Ramadan, something I didn’t experience fully for many years. On the outside, the place did change significantly and overall infrastructure is in some areas much better, which is always a positive sign. I do stick to my belief that if all goes to plan, Bahrain should change 360 over the next ten years. I like to keep my optimistic hat on. As for the other side, it’s not to be discussed here. I do worry though about the traffic, boy is it getting worse. Having said that, I’d take it any day over the tube, especially in mid summer when there are severe delay

The Falconer (Al Sagar)
2007-10-15 05:59:53
I was cruising the other day with my friend through the desert trying to get a breather from the hustle and bustle of the city or what I like to call “civilization” and get a glimpse of the construction going on in that area. One of the topics that was discussed was falconry and this is natural given the surroundings. Now I’d have to say my knowledge in this area is very limited whereas my friend can be classified as an expert. The conversation revolved around many things which ultimately led to my friend suggesting that we pass by a shop that sells falcons. Now I’ve seen baby falcons being sold in the traditional market but the seller typically knew nothing about them besides the price that he wants to sell at. I jumped at the opportunity. Surprisingly, not many people know about this place. It’s a 10 minute drive from my house but given that I don’t venture in that area much, I never knew it existed. First thing you see when you walk in the shop is

Zain@Home (Poll)
2007-10-13 19:11:57
I think that I am starting to warm up to the idea of polls on our blog so here is another one for you all to participate in. I’ve been hearing from lots of people about Zain’s newly launched service “Zain@Home” and after having a peek at their site and some brochure I’ve got from a stand at Seef Mall, I am seriously into the idea of getting the service. Here are the service details and tariffs: Table & info are the curtsy of abdulla.tv Wimax is a wireless service so you don’t need Batelco’s fixed line. Not all areas are covered, but they promised that all areas should be covered within 2 weeks. Call 107 to check if your area is covered. After applying it would take them around 4 days to actually come over your house and setup the device. For each package you would get a 136xxxxx number (voice over ip, meaning that the call would go through the internet) and you can call unlimited calls to other 136xxxxx numbers for free. Wimax device would

BLT Scented Candles
2007-10-13 05:02:58
Hello all ! Since its eid and all, posting about scented candles is ideal. Don’t you think ? But hold on these are not your regular candles. Nope ! you’ll find no lavender, vanilla or cinnamein in this post because it wouldn’t qualify as drivel now would it ? Anyway, I have to admit that I think that scented candles are the best invention ! Well on par with sliced bread, and while looking for some “different” candles on the web to give as a presie for a friend, I came across these “VERY” weird candles. This is how the site discribe them: I’ve invented Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato votive candles. Maybe I’m crazy, but here’s how my mind works: I love the smell of bacon cooking. I fantasize about having bacon grilling on the stove day and night. In my philosophic musings I asked myself what is better than a BLT? As much as I try, I can’t eat a BLT at every meal and I can’t grill bacon 24 hours a day. Then I asked mysel

Tikka and Kebab Crush Style
2007-10-21 05:16:52
On my last night out in Bahrain (Thursday), there was general consensus that dinner has to be smashing with a Bahraini twist. Well, we had to look no further than one of our all time favourites, Crush, or if we go by its official name, Mashweeyat Al Nasheet. If you don’t know where it is, it’s definitely not the easiest place to find (located just off Manama cemetery). Now according to to the owner, this place has been around for 30 years. The speciality of this place is Tikka and Kebab and other places that are quite popular are Tikka Ameen and Tikka Abul. Now this is my personal view when it comes to Tikka and Kebab places: The food is great but to actually enjoy it fully, you need fantastic company and to be sitting outside on the pavement or even on a small road. One thing you need to keep in mind, don’t let the restaurant appearance fool you as such places tend to have “run down” looks. Just enjoy the food and think of nothing else and you won’t be disappointed. I’v

My “To-Do List” Problem
2007-10-20 06:01:07
The front door of our house makes an annoying squeaky noise when opened (coincidently it’s exactly next to my room). I could solve that problem by putting a bit of WD-40 on the hinge. Every day, ever since I finished my studies at Scotland, I have considered doing just that. But every day, something else seemed more important at that moment. My life is dotted with such little tasks that are just below the threshold of being worth doing. And that threshold is a moving target, depending on how busy I am. At one point in the last couple of years, I had a full-time job as teacher, a full-time job as a trainee, and I was job hunting. I think I went 3 years without getting any of these little things sorted out. I think I went four months without getting a couple of burnt out light bulbs “my room’s bulbs” changed. Toward the end, I developed super eyes capable of night vision. I realize it’s sometimes difficult to know when to throttle back. For example, I’m not

iPad Tower: iPod Inspired
2007-10-24 16:24:52
People say Dubai is crazy for so many different things. I can’t refute that at all. After all, how can we forget the proposed or now never built Burj Al Arabi, the tower shaped on a Gulf Arab Man. Now, the city has drawn some inspiration from the iPod . Now this one is designed by Hong Kong based architecture firm “James Law Cybertecture International” and they have designed a lot of towers for the UAE. In the words of the architects, it’s designed to be “the world’s most interesting and young living building”. Visit the following link to see renders of the interior and exterior: iPad Tower It’s crazy what the iPod has done to this world. I suppose you can be inspired by just about anything these days, or well, Dubai is. As crazy as this concept is, I can see it working, but not in any city. Who knows, they might just build an iPhone tower just for you Moe . Blogging, Crazy tower, Dubai, ipad tower, iPod

Buying Legal Digital Music
2007-10-27 08:16:38
I’ve been trying to get iTunes Shop to work for me. And Judging by the last AppleiPod related post, I need to add the following disclaimer before anybody starts with the Apple/iTunes bashing comments, you all must’ve noticed that I am quite a Mac fanboy by now, so telling me negative things about them will not change my views regarding my favorite company and maybe “stock” soon. :wink Anyhooooo, all my tries reached a dead end due to my Aramex address not matching my credit card’s billing address “There is a trick for that to work but it’s a huge hassle”, so off to the next choice “Amazon.com’s newly launched mp3 shop” and yooouuuu’ve guessed right ! Yup, I got the same response ! And that got me thinking, what does a person who lives outside America do to get some legitimate music ? I was starting to give up hope, I could’ve went the other way and downloaded the albums but the musician was VERY good and

Invention of the Year
2007-11-05 16:39:42
When I first saw the title of this article, I took a minute to think about the great inventions of this year. There are lots out there and if we consider the year of the invention as the year where the device starts operations, I would choose the A380. Now take a moment to think about what you’d consider to be the invention of the year. Once you do that, check out the Invention of the year according to Time. Did you expect this? It might be obvious to many but I still can’t help and think that this is the invention of the year. I might just end up with it at the end of the day . Why???
2007-11-10 05:23:03
Just under two years ago, we heard about the project “Al Salam Resort” to be developed by Sama Dubai, a company owned by Dubai Holding. Well, earlier in the week, we hear that things are nearly sorted and work should begin on this project soon. The cost of this is north of $1 billion, thanks partly to the fact that they’re going to reclaim land (they are getting an untouched beach location so don’t ask me why on earth are they reclaiming?). Now what really worries me (maybe I’m reading into this a lot) is the fact that Sama Dubai will give as part of the project, 6 palaces to the Royal Court. Why??? This is the first time I hear about giving gifts of this magnitude as part of a project. Typically, when companies win contracts, they promise to invest in the country, but giving palaces for me is unheard of. The article can be accessed here: Salam Resort What are your thoughts? The whole thing was a blast and unlike the other work related workshops, seminars and conventions which I usually attend, I learnt a couple of things that I’d like to share with you all: A theorist is a person who is ready to assume everything but responsibility. An academic is a person who is ready to test everything in theory. I love this sort of phrases, so feel free to share the ones you’ve got guys. If you don’t hear from us in the next couple of weeks, I just want to wish everyone eid mubarak and merry xmas and hopefully this time will bring lots of blessings to all . Khalid & Moe Break
