Good Debt vs. Bad Debt 2008-11-22 08:37:22 I have read numerous books and articles that detail the difference between good debt and bad debt. Television financial experts tell us that debt is not a bad thing. That its all about how you manage debt. We have been taught that good debt is borrowing money to purchase something with the expectation that the price will rise. Home mortgage loans, student loans [...] Read more:Bad Debt
Forget Yahoo….Buy Time Warner 2008-11-21 15:03:27 In February, Microsoft offered to purchase Yahoo
for $31 a share in a deal valued at 44.6 billion dollars. Yahoo declined the deal and has seen its stock pay the price for refusing the deal. I think Microsoft should make a play for Time Warner
. Time Warner’s stock is currently trading at $7.28 per share [...]
Stocks that I am buying now 2008-11-21 04:13:14 The current economic crisis is creating unique buying opportunities for some of the blue chip companies that are trading at historic price lows. Alcoa (AA), which is the largest aluminum producer in the US, is currently trading at below $7.00 per share. Alcoa’s stock has not been this low since the early 90’s. Alcoa has a market cap of about 6 [...] Read more:Stocks
Stock update 2008-11-21 02:35:39 Purchased an additional 100 shares of GE stock today right before the market close Thursday at $12.60 price. The stock is risky but I think it is significantly undervalued. Read more:Stock
Chief Excessive Officer 2008-11-20 06:29:02 Why do executives get paid millions of dollars a year to run a company into the ground? Why do these same executives earn hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses, stock options and golden parachutes after driving these companies into bankruptcy? I was watching CNBC the other day and saw an alarming statistic. The average [...] Read more:Chief
Is bankruptcy next for General Growth Properties? 2008-11-19 12:54:34 GeneralGrowthProperties
(GGP) is the 2nd largest mall owner in the United States. General Growth Properties owns over 200 malls and shopping centers throughout the country. I first noticed General Growth because they own a lot of malls that I frequently visit. Malls such as White Marsh Mall, Owings Mills Malls, Towson Town Center and [...] Read more:bankruptcy
Can Citigroup regain its lost luster? 2008-11-18 15:35:44 Citigroup announced that they would be laying off 53,000 workers yesterday. Citigroup has already laid off 23,000 employees earlier this year. Citi has lost 20 billion dollars over the past year and has had four straight quarterly earning losses. Citigroup is on its third CEO in the last year. Citigroup has watched its stock price decline to $8.00 per share [...] Read more:Citigroup
5 Ways to Live Debt Free 2008-11-17 18:23:23 1) Renegotiate your high interest rate loans.
High interest credit card debt can be renegotiated with your credit card company. You can call your credit card company and negotiate a lower interest rate. If your company refuses you can threaten to transfer your balance to a lower interest credit card. Many times this will make the [...]
Is GE a buy? 2008-11-17 09:26:42 I have been watching General Electric’s stock for the past few months as it’s value has declined significantly. Warren Buffett recently bought 3 billion dollars of GE preferred stock yielding 10% and has the option to buy 3 billion dollars worth of more shares at $22.25 over the next five years. This plays right into Buffett’s philosophy of [...]
The Economic Crisis 2008-11-16 22:17:55 What caused the economic crisis?
A number of contributing factors have led to the current economic crisis that we face. I will list three of the major factors.
1) U.S. Housing Bubble - From 1999 - 2006, home prices in the US rose at a rate that was not sustainable and property valuations appreciated much greater than income levels. [...] Read more:Crisis

5 Signs you are drowning in debt 2008-12-30 12:00:25 5 Signs that you are drowning
in debt
1. You use your credit card so that you can pay your monthly bills. You use your credit card to pay for necessities like your phone bill, gas & electric or groceries.
2. You depend on cash advances in order to make it through the month. Cash advances charge upfront fees, [...]
Rohm & Haas 2008-12-29 13:47:16 I bought 100 shares of Rohm & Haas Company(ROH) at $53.45 as an arbitrage play. Dow Chemical agreed to purchase Rohm & Haas for $78 per share earlier this year. The Kuwaiti government pulled out of a 17.4 billion dollar deal with Dow Chemical which could hurt financing for the Dow Chemical-Rohm & Haas deal. ROH stock is down over [...]
SRS Sell 2008-12-29 13:04:58 Sold off 100 shares of Proshares UltraShort Real Estate ETF(SRS) at $62. This was after the $4.56 distribution declared last week which would make my exit price over $66. There could be more upside to SRS but I never invest long term in any short position. I sell short positions once I have made a profit.
Buy It Like Buffett 2008-12-29 12:17:27 Below are excerpts from a Motley Fool article by Anand Chokkavelu.
It took him long enough.
At the end of 2004, Warren Buffett
’s Berkshire Hathaway had around $44 billion in cash. Ditto for 2005. And 2006. And, yes, 2007 as well.
At one point, more than 20% of Berkshire’s assets were earning money-market returns. While armchair investors complained [...]

Wendy’s 2008-12-26 16:01:36 I purchased $5 April call options on Wendy
’s stock. This is the third largest burger franchise beneath McDonald’s and Burger King. I already own stock in McDonald’s which has performed well this year. I think Wendy’s may also see an increase in sales as consumers downgrade to cheaper restaurants.

Stock Watchlist 2008-12-26 15:58:35 I am keeping an eye on the following stocks:
