Gig Photos - Off The Wall
2008-11-15 18:26:56
My dear photo buddy Mark invited me last week to see a Pink Floyd tribute band called Off The Wall. It was my first gig with the main purpose of taking nice photographs, so exciting! It was also my first experience shooting only RAW so I made sure I brought both my 2GB cards, which [...]

Leeds Sunset
2008-10-20 13:03:03
It’s one of days you really wish you’d brought the SLR… The other day I saw a beautiful Leeds sunrise with the sun lighting up the clouds beautifully from below. Today I saw a beautiful Leeds sunset, where was my camera?! Another missed opportunity. Oh well, I managed to capture it on the iPhone - [...]

Photo Experiment: Macro Photo Studio
2008-10-11 11:27:41
In the end the Macro Photo Studio cost me as little as £3 (not counting the £5.20 I paid in parking and the petrol…). I managed to source the cardboard box from the office, tracing paper (or bakin parchment) from the kitchen, and scissors, carpet knife and tape from the cupboard. In the end it was [...]

Professional Make-Shift Macro Photo Studio?
2008-10-11 09:13:50
It took me 5 or more shops and 2 hours to find but I’ve finally found the background I was looking for. It’s not actually paper but polystyrene. And so far it works great with nice reflections. The sheets have 2 sides - one very shiny and one less shiny. I use the less shiny [...]

Macro Studio - The Making Of…
2008-10-11 05:39:59
As mentioned last weekend I’ve now started building a make-shift macro studio on a tiny budget. So far I’ve spent £0 using what I have. Have to go to the shop to buy black and White poster paper though, which might cost a couple of quid, but nothing that should make a major impact on [...]

The Strobist Blog - DIY Macro Photo Studio!
2008-10-04 18:56:57
I’ve decided what’ll be my next project. I’m not sure how happy my girlfriend will be with me buying new 300W Halogen lights, but I definitely want to try out making my own DIY macro photo studio. I got the link from my friend for the Strobist Blog, who give alot of good photography tips. [...]

Photographic Experiment: Effects of Different Aperture Settings
2008-10-04 10:28:09
Education while having fun is great! My question is how does the aperture setting affect the photography? Photographers with some experience will know that aperture has a direct effect on the depth of field, but what other effects do you get? I don’t have a macro lens, which is a bit stupid. Not deterred by that [...]

Studio Setup - Capturing Light… Literally
2008-10-04 08:46:31
How about that. This is my new studio setup with reflection from most sides. I’m using a candle for todays testing. Will be testing aperture.

Canon RC-1 Remote Controller
2008-10-04 08:41:49
To avoid camera shake when doing my studio and other work i’ve invested in a Canon RC-1 remote control for the camera. I’m using it for todays experiment so it remains to be seen how well it works! Fingers crossed…

Photography Experiment: Photograph Light, Not Objects
2008-09-27 05:50:21
I figured I’d experiment with some light this morning so I setup my own little make-shift studio in the study. This is the setup, it’s quite simple! Just need the camera, some white paper, a few lights (scavenge the house, your partner will love you for it), and some reflective surface. As I don’t have a [...]

2008 NEC Bike Show Photos
2008-11-28 14:44:44
I was invited to come to the Carole Nash NEC Bike Show on trade day and it was great fun with all the major bike brands represented and lots of fun stuff going on. I’m personally not a biker but there were also interesting fun stuff for non-bikers, including the Bat Bike from the latest [...]

Christmas Photos
2008-11-17 16:49:56
How about a few macro-licious christmas photos? Here are a few that I took using my make-shift macro studio, and they don’t look to bad eh? To get the maximum picture depth I’ve used F22 aperture with my 50mm portrait lens. As you saw in my previous post about the header, the photo below is of [...]

New Header
2008-11-16 12:32:41
Hey, check out the new header image. I know it’s not even December yet but as the retailers start already in September, I figured why not replace the old and ugly header with a nice photo of a Norwegian “nisse” (or “tomte”) and “nissemor”, which is basically the Norwegian version of Leprechauns. We also use [...]
