Professional Disc Golf Association
2007-11-28 08:30:00
Yesterday I wrote about improving your golf Swing. I'm no golfer and I think that if I had a better swing I might actually enjoy the game. Once I put up that post I was immediately contacted with a comment about Disc Golf. Disc Golf is something that I have never heard of before and well the idea intrigued me. And doing a quick search on Disc Golf brought up the Professional Disc Golf Association. These folks are organized. I never knew how big this sport was. Now I am thinking that I'd like to give it a try sometime. I wonder if there are any New England courses for disc golf.

Sport: Golf
2007-11-27 06:40:00
I am by no means, a golfer. I have played once in my lifetime, not including mini golf. On my first hole I birdied and it was all downhill from there. I have a terrible golf swing and very little patience for the game. I think that I would probably enjoy it if I was somewhat better at the game.I was checking out the perfect golf swing dot com and started reading the FAQ section. Slicing the ball seems to be one of my big problems. Luckily there was a question about it and an answer."Question: Why do I slice and periodically hook the golf ball?Answer: The left hand is probably turned to far to the right or the left when gripping the golf club."Sounds pretty simple but there is a lot of science behind the perfect golf swing. The program was developed by Physical Therapist, Jim Clark. Before Jim developed the Perfect Golf Swing program he developed a state-of-the-art rehabilitation program for Stroke and Spastic Cerebral Palsy patients. Jim studied the patterns and motions of the professi

Vacation Coming
2007-11-27 06:37:00
I have a vacation coming up in 92 days. Well, you might be reading this on a day other than the one where I posted so it might be less days now. However you can always see when my vacation is coming because I installed the Mad Gringo's vacation countdown widget on my sidebar.I love countdown widgets and well this one was so awesome I needed to add it to my sidebar. I'm going to be heading down to Orlando in February for a conference and then I'm getting a week in Boynton Beach visiting my in-laws. I need to start looking into kayaking opportunities now so that I can go while I am in Florida.Join the Blog Rush.

Wired Kayaker in the Christmas Spirit...
2007-12-05 22:02:00
I caught back up with all of the episodes of Geek Brief.tv. I had been so behind. One fun thing that Cali Lewis has done is created a site called iYule where you can buy and download a beautiful crackling fireplace.powered by www.PremiumCast.com There are quite a few versions of the iYule Log.iYule Log for standard playersiYule Log for widescreen playersiYule Log music-free editioniYule Log for TV & computersiYule Log, The Complete AlbumNow you might be asking yourself, why sell a 30 minute podcast of a crackling fireplace and beautiful music? Well for one thing there are plenty of DVD's and VHS tapes out there that you can use to watch a fireplace on your TV. So now with people having many different portable media players why not have a fireplace for those as well. A crackling fireplace invokes a feeling of home so why not have that feeling with you everywhere. This project is a collaboration between Cali Lewis and her husband Neal, Geoff Smith, and Paul Colligan, they are d

Win a Mad Gringo Hawaiian Shirt
2007-12-01 07:00:00
During the Month of December I am holding a contest in conjunction with The Mad Gringo at at http://www.madgringo.com/. We will be giving some lucky bloggers sweet Mad Gringo Swag including an authentic Mad Gringo Hawaiian Shirt or Mad Gringo Sarong if you would prefer. I own two Mad Gringo Hawaiian shirts and they are incredibly comfortable and look great.I discovered the Mad Gringo site and fell in love with the idea of "Go Slow". That relaxed lifestyle where you aren't constrained by the corporate life and you follow the Mad Gringo within yourself. So enamored was I that I went on a Mad Gringo sized shopping spree and bought 5 shirts in a whack. I also decided that the Mad Gringo and the Wired Kayaker had something in common. Being a flat water kayaker I'm all about Going Slow and enjoying life. I figure I might as well look stylish doing so.The Mad Gringo website is a very magical place for me. For one thing there are all the great Hawaiian shirts, but that is not all. Mad Gring

SnowShoeing in Nottingham, NH
2007-12-23 11:14:00
I decided to take my snowshoes with me up to my Brother and Sister-in-laws for the weekend. They had a ton of snow and their property butts up along a set of power lines. There is a ton of snow up here and I just had to get out on the snowshoes. I took my GiSTEQ PhotoTrackr and my XShot with me to use my Canon SD800is to take a bunch of photos and a video for Utterz. Here are some photos, check the Geotagging too. I did it with my GiSTEQ PhotoTrackr.Join the Blog Rush.

Snow on the ground, I'd rather be biking...
2007-12-19 08:16:00
It is winter in New England and the snow has covered the ground , then rain fell upon the snow and the beautiful looking snow is a thick hard mass of evil. The snow is so hard and the weather has been so cold that we have gotten thick ice all over the driveway and walkways. The dogs cannot even walk anywhere because it is so cold and hard and sharp and dangerous. So I've started to think about the summer and long for the beach. A time when I can get back out on the water in my kayak or cruising the bike path on my bike. What I'd really like to be able to do is cruise along the bike path on a beach cruiser bike. The one s that I would love to have are either the 26" Man Deluxe Thick Frame Beach Cruiser - Blue or the 26" Man Deluxe All Black Beach Cruiser to use to cruise along the beaches of Cape Cod.I would also like to be able to use some cruiser bikes at my in-laws in Florida. That way I could ride around down there in beautiful weather each time I went for a visit. Staying active is

Underwater Test Video
2008-03-07 16:02:00
I bought a Sanyo EC1 digital Video Camera and I love it so far. There are a few things that bug me like there not being a lens cap as well as the buttons being so small. However it rocks for taking photos and videos. The underwater capabilities are very cool too. Check out this review video I made.

Mad Gringo = Vacation
2008-03-04 19:42:00
I started my vacation this past Friday. When I packed for my trip the most important things that I wanted to take with me were my Mad Gringo Hawaiian shirts, hat and flip flops. I bought all of my shirts (5 of them) and the Mad Gringo sent me a baseball hat and a pair of flip flops. I am not big on flip flops because I am afraid to step on something and won't know it because of my Neuroupathy. I have not had bare feet in a long time but I tried out the flip flops.I really like the design of them because they have the great Mad Gringo logo on them. They are also pretty basic and easy to wear as well. Comfortable and great for the beach. The baseball hat is a light green one with a white Mad Gringo logo on it. I like that one much better than the blue one that I bought Allison.I love how rel

I'm on Vacation
2008-02-29 06:07:00
As you can see my my vacation countdown I am now on Vacation . I am so excited to start 10 days of sun and fun in Florida. The vacation officially starts when I visit IZEA HQ today. I'm going there for the Friday IZEA Loco. This one should be extra special as it is leap year! I'll be wearing a Mad Gringo Shirt and Green Baseball cap. Had I known that there would be a contest for the best green outfit I would have prepared, but alas communication with my contact was not stellar.Tomorrow I am very excited to go to Sea World. I haven't been there since I was a kid. I am pretty excited to see Shamu, go through the Shark tunnel and take a buttload of photos.

Get your IZEARank
2008-02-20 09:45:00
Back in November I went to PostieCon. There I learned all about some great things that were coming from the good people at IZEA. One such awesome item is IZEARanks. If you are a blogger then you might know about the 'smackage' that has been going on from the big online G. Well if you do any sort of advertising on your blog then you probably know firsthand about this. When you got smacked did your blog get any less popular? Did the quality go down? I'm assuming the answer to those questions was no. The previous ranking system from big G was pretty arbitrary. With IZEARanks the ranking is based on real data and metrics. I have been using IZEARanks for a month or so now on all seven of my blogs and it has worked out great. I can see at a glance which blogs are doing well and which ones need i

Chair Lift Speed Dating
2008-02-08 10:52:00
On the radio this morning I heard about this thing called Chair Lift Speed Dating at one of the local mountains. This actually is a great idea. You have 5 to 10 minute ride up the hill and in that time you can chat with your chairmate. This kind of makes the familiar call of 'any singles' in the lift line a bit more literal. Here is where this could go wrong. What if the lift gets stuck and you are trapped with someone that you wouldn't want to spend 5 minutes with let alone 10 to 20+ minutes.I like seeing incorporating sporting events and singles events together. That way you have a common interest built right in. So if you run out of things to talk about you can at least talk about the outdoor activity. My friend Kim at Cape Cod Kayak does a singles paddle each summer. It is a nice event t

Send me a Hawaii Chair, please...
2008-02-07 12:15:00
Allison has been watching Ellen often and despite the writer's strike Ellen is still giving us a great show to watch. The Ellen video I saw on Be A Good Dad. I had heard about this thing called the Hawaii chair on the Mad Gringo's blog. The Hawaii chair is a chair that has a motor and swivels around as you sit. The infomercial is a riot and I think it is unintentional but then Ellen has guests sit on the chair and it is very very funny. Here is the real infomercial.I am posting this open letter to the company Perfect USA.I would love to review this product. I work 8 hours a day in a chair and can provide amazing feedback on a daily basis on my many blogs. I need to lose weight and would gladly add this product to my regimen of sitting. I know of nothing else I could use to work out for an

Lost Sunglasses
2008-01-15 11:23:00
Back in April of 2001 I took a kayaking certification class in Rhode Island at the Kayak Center. I had just gotten some new sunglasses and didn't have croakies on them at all. So two minutes into the class I flip over accidentally (not my boat, first time in a dry suit, basically just bad luck.) and I lost the glasses. They had cost me about $300.00. I know, an exorbitant amount to pay.I recently came across a website that offers a Great Discovery: $ 8 Zenni Optical Rx Eyeglassess. Did I mention that my glasses were prescription and so I had to go back to a much older frame. Well, looking at the ZenniOptical.com site I easily found myself a pair of $8.00 glasses that look almost the same as the ones I had lost. I really liked those glasses. How can a site offer $8.00 prescription glasses?

My Sanyo EC1 arrived!
2008-01-08 19:49:00
So, my Sanyo EC1 waterproof digital camera arrived the other day. I found it for a great price on Circuit city and got 12 months no interest as well. When it arrived I took it and charged up the battery and took a quick little video of the cats. Then I put it away so I could take it with me on my next trip.Well, I took it on my trip and ended up that the battery ended up draining. I didn't take the charger with me and so basically I can't do anything with it this week so my review is going to be later when I can actually use it.This explains the situation better.

Our Media Center PC is dead...
2008-03-14 09:01:00
Our old PC that I rigged up to the TV has gone and died. We were using it as a media center and it was recording our shows for us. We were also loading our CDs on it so that we could use it for entertaining. Well, the other day after Allison was done using it she noticed that it went to a blue screen. I came home and tried to start it a couple of times and it wouldn't start. I couldn't get in with a keyboard and reboot the system. It is dead.Well, we got used to the ease of having a media center PC in or living room so I did some searching online and found PC Kits that I could put together to make a new computer. The website is called Easy AS My PC. Their kits have everything I would need to build a computer. Maybe this would be the solution to our Media Center void. I'm pretty sure I coul

Flatwater Tech is dead...
2008-03-14 08:56:00
I have been struggling with the idea of killing off one of my blogs. The blog is Flatwater Tech. It was originally set up as an online bookstore of mine. However it became a blog in its own right. But I've been trying to maintain two tech blogs at the same time and it just isn't working. So Flatwater Tech is no more, the posts and focus of that blog will be absorbed into this blog. Since I like to talk about gadgets on Wired Kayaker (It is a tech blog after all and an outdoors blog) I find the marriage of the two blogs perfect. This is all part of my major refocus on quality. Quality posts for you on this blog as well as quality on my other main blogs. The weak links are being severed and the strong blogs are being given more attention. The next step, move this blog off of blogger and onto

I want to work from home...
2008-04-03 06:07:00
One of my dreams is to live on a lake and have a kayak storage building with tons of different kayaks that I could use daily and review on this blog. While that is not happening any time too soon I can still do reviews on this blog. Some reviews I can even get paid for. I'm a member of SocialSpark and I make money blogging. This money has helped me supplement our family income so my wife can stay home with our baby girl. There are many people who have work at home dreams. With SocialSpark you can help to finance those dreams a bit. There are many different ways in which you can earn money through SocialSpark. For one thing, you can write reviews and advertisements and earn money. You can also allow your blog to be sponsored in order to earn money. I am hoping that my wife will work with So

The Deadliest Catch: Captain's Call
2008-04-07 06:12:00
Guest post from Lisa of My Thoughts, Ideas and Ramblings and Lisa Reviews.Drew asked me to guest post this entry since I am a huge fan of Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. He also allowed me to take his place on a conference call with two of the captains from there. Both Andy and John from the Time Bandit were on the call, and we got to ask them any questions that we wanted. For those of you who don’t know, The Deadliest Catch shows what life is like on the crab boats. This is one of the most dangerous jobs there is out there. You can make a ton of money doing this, but if you ever fall into the Bering Sea, the chances of you coming out alive are slim. I personally think it is one of the best reality shows out there! Some of the cool things that I learned is that Andy and John are

Where did my files go....
2008-04-15 09:37:00
This would be a great post to tie into an ad for online storage or somethign but it is not. This is a sad day for the Wired Kayaker indeed. I have been working on a video for IZEA. This video was an application to be part of the IZEA Fab 4 at IZEAFest 2008. I wanted to include some Wired Kayaker footage from the 1st 3 shows and the outtakes. I went searching through my hard drives, DVDs, CDs and both computers. The files are gone, wiped out no where to be found. I am so mad at myself for letting this happen.I am going to buy another external hard drive to make sure that all the episodes I tape this summer never get lost like that. I can't believe that all the photos and the raw footage is toast. I was able to convert a youtube video to a usable video in Adobe Premiere.I did mine a long and

On the Water Tracking
2008-04-18 13:41:00
When I paddle I go places that I know, but there are times when I paddle alone. I know I should paddle with a group or at least one other person. I just love to get out there and do my own thing. I was reading about a GPS car tracker and I thought, that would be a great thing to have in a kayak. Why? Well if you go paddling on your own like I do a GPS tracking device in the kayak and one on shore or one that you could track via the internet would give piece of mind to my family about where I was off paddling.I could use a GPS device when I go out taking photos. I noticed that the trackers also record speeds as well as times. I don't have much use for speed when I am taking photos but it would be really cool to know how fast I was going while I was paddling. And with the software I could ea
