Disappointed 2007-06-08 07:12:00 I have not gotten to kayak all week. I am really disappointed because I have carted my kayak on my car top all week in hopes of getting out early enough from work to get on the water at least once. Just didn't happen. However I am happy to report that my Lasso security lock has been doing a great job. I am going to have to post daily like my pal papersurfer and say things like.I didn't Kayak today.Help me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! Please Vote.If you liked this post Please Click a button.
Kayaking on Long Pond 2007-06-10 08:57:00 Yesterday morning I went out for a nice paddle on Long Pond in Falmouth, MA. I hadn't been kayaking all week although I had my boat on my car all week long and carted it to and from work each day in hopes that I would get on the water. But I did not, things prevented me from being able to do so.I took my video camera and my Canon Sd800is with me. This time I went with the intention of making Wired Kayaker Podcast #4. This time I went and documented the two areas where people can go and park. Then I filmed my intro and also filmed with the camera facing the bow and the water. I am going to try something different with Episode #4. I am going to do some voice over in the podcast. That way I can write a script and things would sound a little better. There will still be me in my cowboy hat chatting about what I see on the water. I met a kayak fisherman on the water too. He had his own homemade rig for two rods and a work platform for his tackle box. He was having good luck on Long Pond too Read more:Kayaking

Gadget: The XShot 2007-06-14 00:56:00 I am getting an XShot. It is in the mail as you read this. And You can get one as well for a discounted price. Why, because I agreed to have a sample sent to me to test out while I take photos and I was also offered a promo code for my readers. You get $5.50 off the retail price of $24.95. That is a good savings for a nifty product. I need to use it before I can say much more about the features and what I like or dislike about it. I have a feeling I am going to like it.However I can say that it has a 37" reach, and compacts down to 9" in length. That is going to go great in my camera bag of goodies. I can use it to photograph and videotape myself anywhere. I will have to use it on a future Wired Kayaker Podcast. So how to you get your XShot discount. Head to http://xshotpix.com and put an XShot in your cart then just enter SparkRocks when you checkout. Wired Kayaker Podcast - Episode #3 2007-06-19 06:35:00 Last evening I spent quite a bit of time putting together the third episode of The Wired
Kayaker. During this episode I was photographed for the Sun Chronicle Newspaper article, the one that came out this past Sunday. Also during this episode I took photos of some frogs and flowers for Macro Monday for a group that I am part of on Flickr. I also reference my other 3 blogs. The BenSpark, BenSpark 2: Electric Boogaloo and Flat-Water TechThis is the first episode that I have uploaded to PodShow. I am a huge fan of Cali Lewis and GeekBrief.tv. She is on PodShow so I decided to check it out. The uploading was so quick. And my file is about 130MB in size, that is 30 MB more than what YouTube allows. My address for Podshow is http://wiredkayaker.podshow.com/. Help me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! Please Vote.If you liked this post Please Click a button. Read more:Podcast

Episode #3, Delayed 2007-06-18 22:06:00 Episode #3 has been delayed. It is being rendered at this very moment. I will have to upload it tomorrow. I am hoping that Podshow takes files larger than 100MB and that my MPG will be accepted. But the episode is essentially complete, just needs to be rendered. And that is supposed to take an hour, so Episode #3 won't be up tonight.Help me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! Please Vote.If you liked this post Please Click a button. Read more:Episode
Welcome Sun Chronicle Readers 2007-06-17 08:35:00 Well imagine my surprise today as I was leaving church when Fr. Dave said to me in excitement that he had seen me on the front page of The Sun Chronicle
. That is our local newspaper. I had been interviewed by Rick Foster about 3 weeks ago and then photographed by Martin Gavin. Well those images were on the front page today along with an article about local people who are using You Tube to post their own videos of the things that they are interested in.The article was pretty interesting, there are quite a few other pepole who are uploading videos from the Attleboro area. There is a train enthusiast, some urban explorers and other interesting videos.I will try and get episode #3 up today, that is the one I made when I was being photographed for this article. Trailer: Into the Wild 2007-06-27 09:39:00 I read Jon Krakauer's book Into the Wild a while ago. It is an amazing story about a young man who is out to challenge and to discover himself. He gives away or leaves all that he has to wander the world and to live in the wild in Alaska.I read this and Krakauer's other book, Into Thin Air. I liked them both. Well now the story of Chris McCandless will be told on the big screen. And the Into the Wild trailer looks pretty powerful. One of my favorite folk singers, Ellis Paul even has a song about Chris McCandless it is called The Ballad of Chris McCandless.Help me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! Take it to the slopes... 2007-07-27 07:29:00 It has been a few years for me since I have been skiing. I should probably get back on the slopes this year because I have all of my equipment and it would be cool to do a little podcast on the slopes.I have only been skiing out West once before in my life. And I have been out to Utah many times, however I never got past the airport. And Utah has some great skiing, especially Park City. And if I get a chance this season I may be on the lookout for Park City accommodations. Skiing is a sport that The Wired Kayaker needs to go out and tackle. If only for the great views and huge mountains. Some great Photo-A-Day shots will be taken on a trip like that. So when I next go to Utah, lets hope I can get out of the airport and onto the ski lifts in Park City. Read my disclosure policy. Where have I been... 2007-07-25 11:46:00 I have been pretty absent from this blog for a while. It all began back on the 2nd of July where I went to the Cape after Transformers BotCon 2007. I haven't been in contact with my boat or paddle or any of my equipment in well over a month. Can't exactly do a 'weekly' podcast when I can't be on the water to film. I do have footage for a 4th episode, however no time to actually produce the podcast. I give a lot of credit to those people who can podcast each and everyday, some as full time jobs and others as enthusiasts. I won't be back to the Cape to get my boat until the weekend after this one, I will make a point to get out on the water.Help me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! A place to buy boating gear... 2007-07-25 07:40:00 On my kayak I really have no need for much marine equipment but there are quite a few things I could find and use from American Marine Supply. Sure it would be silly to have any nautical clocks on my kayak but there are many more things to enhance my kayaking experience. For example I could get some shock cords for tying down my gear. And if I start fishing from my kayak I would benefit from rod holders so that I wouldn't have to fumble with my paddle and my fishing rod at the same time. And if I would like to extend my kayaking season I could certainly get myself a Wet Suit.Read my disclosure policy. Places to find Kayaking Information 2007-07-20 06:49:00 There are many resources online to find out information on Kayaking
and where to go to Kayak. In New England you can take a look at the places that the state allows for car top boating. Car top boating is where your boat is transported on top of your car to the destination. Kayaks and canoes are the boats that fall into that category. Massachusetts has a table of all the places where people can boat that have parking facilities. Some are free and others you need to pay for but there are many locations across the state.Take a look at the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and RecreationHelp me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! Get a Flickr or Zooomr PRO account to host your outdoor photos... 2007-08-03 12:38:00 This month I am sponsoring a contest all by my lonesome. And it is a crazy one, only the innovative need apply.By hosting this contest I am hoping to create greater exposure of all of my projects across the web and to build community among my readers. Isn’t that what we all are looking for with our blogs, exposure and community. The more exposure, the more readers, the more communication and interaction the better the community. I love interacting with everyone who visits and comments here on this blog and my other blogs. So I am giving away three prizes. The prizes will be photography related. I have found that as my photography has improved so has my group of readers (I’m talking quantity here, I have always had quality readers) and photography related prizes are perfect for this blog.I’m going to do something a little out of the ordinary here. The contest will run for the month of August and there will be no voting but there will be many ways to earn points instead. Are you up f Read more:Flickr

Get out and Bike.. 2007-08-09 12:33:00 I have a bike, It is hanging in the garage and I have not used it once this year. It is a MT bike and paid pretty good money for it to have all the latest fancy gadgets. But do I ride it, not that much. The last time I remember riding my bike was last summer on Cape Cod. I rode my bike on the Shining Sea Bike Path. This is a great little Bike Path that runs from Falmouth to Woods Hole. I guess I really don't need a fancy bike that goes off road and on when all I ever do is ride the bike on bike paths leisurely down the beach. That is why I have been giving much thought to selling my fancy expensive bike and getting back to basics, albeit with some style. I've been checking out the beach cruiser bikes on Copacabana Bikes.com. These are well made quality bikes made for cruising up and down the boardwalks and bike paths. I need a beach bike because that is where I do the bulk of my bike riding. I even picked one out that I really like. That bike is the Firmstrong Bruiser and it is only $

Dev3.ro - Web Design Services 2007-08-07 09:08:00 Before my job in marketing I used to work for a web design firm. We did everything. Now that I am on the outside of that world I sometimes long to get back in. I saw this company called Dev3.ro Web design Services
and I checked it out. I wanted to see what sorts of services were provided as well as what the prices were. They have many services and the prices are more than reasonable. Here are some of the services that they offer. Website Development, Database Design, E-Commerce Solutions, Search Engine Optimization, Corporate Identity and even Custom Web Applications. I know that I myself no longer have time to work on each of those aspects of my websites. Having a good team behind you is key. I browsed through the portfolio for Dev3.ro Web design Services and found some very clean design and eye catching corporate logos. I even went and looked at some of the sites that were designed by Dev3.ro Web design Services. Birthday in a box is light years ahead of anything we ever created at m Read more:Web Design
Surf's Up! 2007-08-10 12:13:00 My friend Andy, he would be Stephen the Dog's A., is a water sports athlete and he has done many different on the water sports like wake boarding and kiteboarding. I am not sure if he has been surfing but I bet he'd be awesome at that as well.I am not sure if Andy has a board but if he wanted one he could check out The Surfboard Warehouse of a custom surfboard. Once he has been hooked up with a shaper for his custom board, and he has a ton to choose from like Lost, Linden, Cordell, WRV, Cannibal, Rat, BAT, Orion, Lucas and Wooster, he can start looking for accessories. Gear that he could find includes fcs fins, and future fins to name a few.Being the jet setter that he is, Andy could also get his board delivered to him no matter where he was because The Surfboard Warehouse delivers anywhere and can get boards to customers even if they are traveling. That is pretty sweet, say for instance I knew that I was going someplace to surf within four to six weeks I could have my board delivere
So envious... 2007-08-10 12:08:00 I have been following the exploits of Mark from Southwest Sea Kayaking and every time I see his photos I am so envious of the amazing life he is leading. Mark is writing a kayaking book and has been researching and kayaking for the past year. He posts very often and it is worth adding his feed to your reader because the posts are informative as well as entertaining and the photos are amazing. Simply amazing. I can't wait till the book is finished because I want to get a copy. I hope that the photos are in the book as well.Help me Get Paid to Blog for a Year! Healthy Kayaking 2007-09-27 10:46:00 With any outdoor activity you need to make sure that you are in good health to participate. And doing such outdoor activities can keep you in good health, so health is important. With Kayaking
you want to be sure that you have a proper technique for paddling so that you do not hurt your back of make yourself too tired with improper strokes. Think of your body as a spring that can be coiled and uncoiled. Your trunk, the lower back, stomach, basically your midsection should get as much exercise when paddling as your arms do. I have seen so many people go out and try to power through it and just use their arms to paddle. And then some of them need to be towed in by a much smaller paddler who has been going non stop all day. So what is the secret to paddler number 2's success. Well they could be eating a healthy diet and supplementing their nutrition with products like muscle milk and vitamins and be really strong. But then again paddler #1 may have been doing all those things. While prop
Sea Kayaking Dot Net 2007-09-27 10:38:00 As I search around the Internet for other kayaking websites, products and other items I came across Sea Kayaking
Dot Net. The author Adam Bolonsky is an avid kayaker from Gloucester, MA. He watches what is happening in the world of kayaking and is great about reporting the information to his readers, that is when he is not out kayaking. He also writes for several print and online publications. Some of Adam's latest posts have been about NOAA charts. Reading through his posts one can see why he writes for so many publications, he is clear and concise and full of great information. I will be adding his blog to my list of kayak resources and frequenting his blog often to learn more.Join the Blog Rush.
Storing your boats... 2007-09-27 10:27:00 For a few years my Dad and I have toyed with the idea of setting up some shelves for the kayaks in the back of the garage, on the outside wall. We would like to put the boats up onto shelves that have little rollers on them so that you can slide the boats in and out. I know that major manufacturing places have steel buildings, forklifts and all sorts of ways to store the boats. But we are looking for a much smaller scale in our own backyard. However if I ever hit the lottery I am going to get my own steel building and buy one of every kayak I can find, live on a lake and spend the rest of my time kayaking in each boat and writing detailed reviews of the ins and outs of each of those boats. But, if some company wanted me to review their boat I would certainly be up for getting on the water to demo and then review. For now our boats are on the second floor of the garage handing off hooks from the rafters. It is kind of a pain to get them down because you need two people. How do you store y
Point 65 Kayaks 2007-09-27 09:56:00 In my search for many kayaks the world over I learned about Point 65 kayaks, they are from Sweden. And I was reading their blog and it seems that Nigel Foster (Basically he is THE MAN when it comes to kayaking) is now heading up the Point 65 Research and Development team.Point 65 has some beautiful kayaks that range from the cute Nemo recreational kayak to the high end sea touring kayaks like the Sea Rover.Point 65 is sold in the USA. They are distributed in both Maine and New York. I'd love to go and try one of their boats out if I ever get a chance to go to Belfast Maine or Plattsburgh New York.A really cool bit of information also is not that the Point 65 kayaks are being sold in Iceland. But rather, they started being sold on the 30th anniversary of Nigel Foster and Geoff Hunter's circumnavigation of the island back in 1977. How awesome a trip that must have been.Join the Blog Rush.
