Photo of the beach in the evening with long exposure 2007-04-11 00:26:19 View it large for a better impression of the foreground.
In this photo I used an exposure time of 15 seconds to try get the “foggy” effect you can see on the ocean. Very fun way of photographing although very time consuming and cold when you have temperatures of -4C. Read more:Photo

A Day of Waves and Sounds 2007-03-31 11:21:21 Was a very windy and snowy day. Got a little beach trip inbetween the snow.
The waves was very impressive and the pictures don’t give them credit at all of their size and massive energy. You could really feel the forces of nature.
Tried to record the sound of the beach with my mp3 player. You can [...] Read more:Waves

Photo of the Moon, Venus and Earthshine 2007-04-12 12:19:37 Here is a picture of phenomenon that I have not seen often. The moon was a thin crescent and Earth reflected light on the moon. It’s called planetshine and Earthshine when the earth lights the moon.
You can also see Venus
below the Moon. Read more:Photo
Photo of typical Norwegian boathouse 2007-04-14 22:55:03 I’m a big fan of the old boatsheds! They have such great texture and colors and tell stories about old times.
Notice the planks in the foreground that are used to get fishing boats out on the ocean without much hassle.
In the back you can see some beautiful mountains called Stakken and Snøtinden. Read more:Photo

Picture of formation of clouds looking like a river 2007-04-16 18:53:10 View the photo large.
This sight was very fascinating! It looked like a river coming down from the enormous cloud formations. Probably created by down-streams of air?
The nature sure is beautiful! Read more:Picture
Photo of blizzard in March 2007-04-18 14:29:06 Taken with Olympus E-500 digital camera
A snow storm made it impossible to go outside so I settled for taking pictures indoor. Notice how the wind are sweeping the trees.
But even when there is a blizzard you can see the blue sky in the background signaling better weather.

Photo of pebble beach and a mountain covered in snow 2007-04-25 15:51:23

This beach is very special. It is filled with millions of these pebbles and it is pretty steep so it is real hard to walk it.
When big waves hit it produce an unique sound when the pebbles roll out.

Had to capture this moment when the moon was in such a great position.
The mountain you see is called “Kråketindan”, Peaks of the Crow in English, and is about 800 meters above sea level.
Soon I will venture up there to take some mountain pictures. Still a bit too much snow to trek safely.

Photo of great black-backed gull 2007-04-24 16:21:46
Taken with Olympus E-500 digital camera April 22nd 2007. Click image for larger view.
This is a great black backed
gull (Larus marinus).
It is the biggest kind of seagull with it’s length of 61-74cm and wingspan of 1.4 to 1.7m. A grown gull weighs 1.5-2kg.
I find this bird very fascinating with it’s very coarse cries and rough behaviour. I have seen them snap the neck of smaller seagulls, eating eider ducklings alive and swallowing pretty large cod fish in one gulp.

This is a very popular beach in the summer with people coming from all the small villages on Andørja. You can see the sandy part below the white house.
I made this shot because of the dramatic clouds and light streaming through from the sun.
As you can see I’m standing in a river. The combined sound of a river and waves hitting the shore is very nice!

Macro photo of ant dragging a spider 2007-05-09 00:39:35
Taken 6th May, 2007. Click image for larger view.
As I have said before, macro photography is so much fun and a real challenge when you try to capture moving insects.
I believe the ant is some kind of wood ant (Formica rufa), but I have no idea what species the spider is.
I bet some of my readers have the knowledge. Feel free to write a comment with the information about species as I always love to learn new stuff about the nature.

The days are getting longer and longer. This picture were taken at 10 PM in evening!
The nights are also getting very light and as I’m writing this, at 2 AM, the horizon is still orange.
We are just talking about a couple of weeks before the midnight sun is showing up here. I will be capturing it so you might want to visit this site later

I was hunting down this Common Raven (Corvus corax) with my camera and suddenly it took flight. My camera was in manual mode and was not set to take a photo with the sun in it.
I must say I’m pleased with the result as it is somewhat different. Might call this photo an accident

Atlantic Puffins (Fratercula arctica) sure are beautiful. They are not very common in my parts, but on my last two fishing trips I have seen many puffins. Very surprising and I hope this means that the number of birds are increasing after years of decreasing populations.
