Post It, NOT. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Did I say there would be loads of Cartoons posted over the next few days? I think I did. Not wise to make such promises. Blame Mr Jack Daniels for this latest blip. I'm never going to drink again. Ever.
The 911 Report 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This idea came from that mythical place, called nowhere. Didn't do any prep sketches, didn't redraw it at all. It's good when things fall into place. I love a good conspiracy theory. Influenced by Air America radio - which I listen to online. Quite a few ideas floating around Clang Towers, at the moment, so updates should be more frequent over the next few days.
Shopping Hell 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I have to confess that I hate shopping. Any kind of shopping apart from stationery, and computer shopping. Clothes shopping is the worst kind of torture for any man. Men walk into a clothes shop, decides which colour jeans to buy, in which size, and then chooses the cheapest T-shirt being sold. Job done. Women will browse for hours, try things on, buy things that she knows she'll never wear, and then go into the first shop that she went into, to buy the first thing she looked at. Any suggestions offered by the man will get responses like; "I wouldn't even let my mother wear that". We just can't win.

Parking 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Lovely Rita, meter maid.....or not. This car is almost a VW Beetle. Didn't intend it to be, but that's how it turned out.

Crime & Punishment made easy 1970-01-01 00:59:59
A court in China is tested some software that's decided sentences passed in 1,500 criminal cases, including crimes of robbery, rape, murder and state security offences. Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) could take on a whole new meaning!

So much for the new rougher style of drawing. This is the 5th version of this gag. The subject matter required a scene to be set, which was difficult to do, in a sketchy style. I may even publish the other versions in the newsletter at the end of the week. Talking of the newsletter, I have decided to publish it on Fridays, instead of Sundays as originally intended. The reason being - it gives you lot the chance to read it over the weekend, and Sunday is a 'school night' for most people.

Dig It 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Ever seen workmen dig up a road, leave the hole for a week, fill the hole in and then the next day another utility company dig the same hole? No? Just me then! Maybe my invention of zips in roads isn't such a great idea after all.....
Strandbeesten - Wind Powered Robot 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Stumbled upon this amazing video today:
Theo Jansen is a scientist turned artist that creates remarkable wind powered robots called Strandbeests. These robots are entirely low-tech with no electronic components and are designed using a simulated evolution program made by Jansen over 17 years ago. His goal is for these robots to one day live in herds on beaches along the Dutch coast.

Pound Shop 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Don't Click to Enlarge, it doesn't get any better.
Haven't been drawing much lately. Having a bit of a cartoon block. This is out of my sketch book from a few weeks ago. Don't really like it - but I have to post something. Going through a style crisis at the moment. Don't like the staid look of the drawing with this one. I know I can do better. Maybe I'll rework the idea into something more visually pleasing. Work in progress. Yes, that's what it is. Read more:Pound
Style Council 1970-01-01 00:59:59 In an attempt to break the cartoon block (it's more to do with drawing style then ideas) I have been doing some rough sketches. I know that my drawing style changes all the time, if you look back at some of the cartoons on this blog, you will see many styles. I don't seem to be able to stick to one style. Cartoons drawn on the same day seem to have a similar style (all the crap ones are drawn at the same time).
I've been covering news items, which require quick drawings. Old news is no news, as someone once said. The sketchy style is my personal favourite. It's easier to hide the mistakes in a sketchy cartoon, and they don't require so much preparation. I also think that the sketchy style is more 'Clangnuts' then anything else I may draw.
I hate cutesy cartoons. Cartoon vomit. I have been guilty of emulating this style of drawing from time to time. I need to branch out and make a unique identity with my drawings. It's all experimental at this stage. I'd love to hear your view Read more:Style

Love Island 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Got that strange feeling that this cartoon must have been done before. The reason I try not to look at too many other cartoonists work. The brain absorbs and then regurgitates the idea again. Oh well, can't think where I've seen this - and I like the cartoon. As someone once said, you can't copyright an idea. Read more:Island
POOT! Comic 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This cartoon is a rework of one I actually had published! In the early 90's there was a Comic
, called POOT!. It was a rather silly imitation of Viz. I sent them quite a few of my cartoons. I thought my cartoons, if not good enough for Viz, would at least be good enough for them, and I was right! This cartoon appeared in the last issue. They went bankrupt soon after publishing my cartoon. Pity, as they had loads of other cartoons, they were going to publish too.

A rare colour cartoon here. I was going to be all flash, and use Photoshop, until I realised how long that would take. Concerned this might be too subtle (excessive subtly is a curse, alongside extreme modesty). Oh well, some of you will get it, some of you will scratch your heads.

Fired 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Thought I'd add a little colour to this one. As some of you will not have noticed, I've changed my drawing style for this week. Thick lines and hatching are back in. Thanks for all the comments - keep them coming.

Medium 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Most cartoons are drawn twice. Once in pencil, then in ink. This time I have not bothered with the pencil drawing first. It's a simple drawing, so mistakes could be avoided. It makes a refreshing change not to have to draw something twice, and all that rubbing out was dispensed with. I may continue to draw them raw for a few days. Could be interesting...

Why Don't You? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Britons are the worst energy wasters in Europe with bad habits which could cost £11bn by 2010, a survey of Europe's five most populous nations suggests.
I often leave things on standby, simply because they need resetting every time they are unplugged. It seems to me that electrical goods are very badly designed. If the DVD recorder, and the set top box could remember all it's settings and channels without electricity - then people would be more inclined to switch them off. The TV doesn't have a problem remembering, so why can't the digibox remember a thing? I don't want to have to spend 10 minutes coaxing the thing into something useful, when I'm missing my favourite programme.
Stand Up Comedy 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The last cartoon wasn't drawn in the 'raw' - but this one was. No pencil lines to rub out at all! I think in future I'm going to do the simpler cartoons without pencil, and the more complicated ones (like this one) in pencil first. Ideas are overflowing at the moment, but have not had time to draw them. Many people have said that the blog would benefit from a regular strip cartoon. That is something that's been worked on now. Ideas are good at the moment, but I still welcome all the (polite) suggestions offered, so keep sending them in.
Spell checker reports no errors - that's another small achievement!

Mediocre TV 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Another 'raw' cartoon. It's simple enough, so to use pencil would have been a little pathetic anyway. Perfectionism means more time drawing the same cartoon at least twice.

Vera Lynn - Campaign to Save Post Offices. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Vera Lynn has joined the campaign to save rural post offices. Cartoonist mind immediately thinks of this. Decided that it was time for some colour.
