Your 'Arch of Triumph' 2008-10-26 12:37:00 Low/flat arches, high arches, normal/neutral arches. You've heard these terms, and like many, probably look to athletic shoes manufacturers (and running magazines) to point you in the right direction. To cure the handicap you seemingly poses. But do you?I personally have somewhat low/flat arches. Yet, I've been running injury free for nearly 7 years now... and barefoot, can you imagine? It's

Moe]With all the barefoot running buzz it seems little spotlight is put on the simple pleasure and benefit of barefoot walking. When a person wears shoes all the time, their feet (soles) become soft and tender. So by barefoot walking outdoors at least several times a week your feet won't be as sensitive to the different textures you may encounter. Take pleasure in the di Read more:Walking

Take it from the pro's 2008-10-22 18:58:00 Gymnasts, dancers, martial artists and specialty performers. What do they have in common? They're naked from the ankle down. Our foot & ankle is designed perfectly through evolution. This relatively small part of the human body contains 26 bones, 33 joints and over 100 muscles, tendons & ligaments. By being barefoot, our bodies are capable of amazing feats... no pun intended. It's no won

between the same runner wearing shoes versus barefoot, and the position of her feet as they're about to make contact with the ground.[These are images have not been staged, directed or altered in Photoshop. You can find these two images on popular micro-stock photo sites, ie. dreamstime.com]On the left: The runner will heel strike; thus causing a jolting, braking action wit

the naked foot : beauty or the beast? 2008-10-17 18:05:00 Why is the naked human foot viewed as less attractive then the rest of our body?Who can we thank for this? Fashion designers, footwear companies, the effects of wearing shoes all day (read: stinky feet)..... I don't know...The reasoning and source of this anti-foot propaganda has always interested me. POLL: barefoot at the office 2008-10-15 16:52:00 I've received a number of emails asking* if Skora shoes would be appropriate to wear to work (the office
).This question makes for a fantastic blog post! Many of us (including shod runners) would like nothing more than to go around the office barefoot, or at least in our socks. Too bad we can't.There are a number of 'barefoot' or minimal shoes out there but they either look terrible or fall apart to
watch your step 2008-10-14 17:12:00 Running without shoes has inherent risks. Depending on where you live, your running route may have all sorts of little annoyances like broken glass, sticks, stones, icy roads or even nasty bugs.I often get asked how to avoid stepping on 'stuff'. There's the obvious things you can do such as keeping your eyes on the road ahead, running on paved walking/cycling trails or hard-packed sandy beaches Read more:watch
say what you mean 2008-10-13 18:10:00 Many of you might have seen the MBT shoes. If you've taken a flight in the past 2 years or so and flipped through those entertaining in-flight shopping mags, then you've seen these silly shoes. Recently, the marketing company behind this brand of shoes launched their "anti-shoe" campaign. This ad slick is just one of the many clever ads they released.Funny how they pronounce that "The shoe is dea
don't let this happen to you: injury = discovering barefoot running 2008-10-13 16:51:00 With 1,200+ kms (745+ miles) in the first 8 months of 2002, it was shaping to be a good running
year. I just completed a 1/2 marathon in 1:35 on a cold fall Alberta morning. I was on pace to run my first marathon early next spring. And then... out of nowhere, a debilitating IT band injury. Run through it? Out of the question. Heck, I could barely drive a car for more than 15mins without pain
what is "skora" 2008-10-12 14:35:00 Pronounced "score-ah" or "skoorah" ....In Polish it means "skin or leather". This I knew as I speak the language. But it turns out in Swedish the noun 'skor' means "shoe". Maybe it was just a coincidence. Skora will serve as the name for the product intended to result of this project, a project that started some 7 years ago. More on this in upcoming posts.
the start of BarefootRunner.com 2008-10-12 14:01:00 Those of us that run barefoot understand the benefits. Those of us that observe runners run barefoot (aka Barefooters) question why. Meanwhile, there is another group of (shod) runners and non-runners alike, beginning to question if "traditional" running footwear is harmful or helpful. This new blog will serve not only as a forum for discussion, but also as a congress for new design to truly aid i
