Need a tourist Visa?
2008-10-26 14:10:00
Before attempting a RTW it is crucial, at least for our own sake, that we have all the paperworks covering our itinerary. So we are checking with the relevant embassies, mainly through their websites, all VISA requirements as the last thing we would is to made a 10 hours flight just to be denied entry and being put on a fly back home. Some countries make it very easy for tourist s, mainly to encourag

Staying Healthy
2008-10-25 13:23:00
When we went to the GP to get info for the travel jabs the nurse provide us also with an endless list of things to avoid and precautions to travel safe, apart obviously of the injections; here only a few:protect yourself always against mosquito bites by wearing protective light colored clothing covering arms and legs and apply frequently insect repellant; avoid overexposure to the sun;eat only coo

Travel Jabs – OUCH!
2008-10-25 12:17:00
Travel vaccines are probably the only thing which doesn’t thrill anybody when planning a trip but to have own our piece in mind this is actually one of the first thing we have taken into account also because we don’t have much time before the departure. Yet, we haven’t book our flight and we already took 4 shots of different travel vaccines.I must say was pretty easy to arrange it, stress fr

2008-10-23 07:35:00
The majority of our trip will be unplanned and as many independent’s travellers (not to confuse with holiday’s makers) we will turn up on a location to find a place to sleep for the same night. But there will be some exceptions mainly for the first nights on where we will land like for Hong Kong furthermore cause is going to be new year when we will be there and we would like a nice bed after s

Is Driveaway a myth?
2008-09-29 17:21:00
I heard rumours of car companies that need to move vehicles to the other side of the States and will let individuals do it and all you have to do is pay for the petrol, cool!I came across also once to an article about this auto driveaway in the USA, can’t remember even where but I Know I have been enthralled since then by this idea to do a coast to coast in a charming vintage car for free.Well,

Western Highlights - From LA to San Francisco around the National Parks
2008-09-29 11:37:00
Where do we start with this one?We tried to combine both our passion for the great outdoor with the bustling of the big cities making sure we include some of America greatest highlights and we come up with this trip starting from Los Angeles, through San Diego crossing quickly the boarder to get some Mexican burritos and faijtas in Tijuana and back to the track towards some great national parks: T

What about USA?
2008-09-29 11:32:00
What about a coast to coast in the USA? Yes like Easy Rider, the two “hippie” bikers along with their choppers that set off for a trip from Los Angeles to New Orleans. We have two months to explore the USA.Originally we though to embark the same route through some of the most scenic roads across this enormous country including the mythical 66 routes but we realise that this would have probably

Where to start..
2008-09-20 19:23:00
Travel today has become far easier and accessible for travelers and magazines and the web are packed with flight’s promotions and RTW tickets. But when it comes to you, it is definitely easier to say than to actually plan it!On overall, the budget will play for sure a big role in the planning of our trip and obviously we would like to put together the dream destinations of both of us which is, tr

A big chunk of money!
2008-09-19 18:06:00
If money wasn't a issue, we will probably wouldn't questioning about the subject and go everywhere we fancy following our moods, but since we are not Berlusconi or, for the one not family with the Italian "barzellette", the more popular Bill Gate , unfortunately we are an ordinary couple with ordinary jobs and money is for us a matterWe dug into few bloggers but maybe we haven't done our homework

What about Asia?
2008-09-19 15:52:00
Asia will be only the start of our RTW trip and it is still a big question mark but at least after a long discussion we decide not to visit China and neither Indonesia. We are trying to decide if it is worth or not to stop in Hong Kong for 3/4 days before heading to Thailand and even more I am trying to convince my “country-boy” about it, which he is more keen to spend his time in the countrysi

Buy a campervan!
2008-09-19 15:31:00
After a long evening of research, discussions and "valuation" we made up our mind at least in one thing: we are going to buy a camper van when landed to Sydney something like the one on the picture, cool isn’t!Since we will travel for two/three months in Australia this will be the cheapest option (hopefully) given that the cheapest camper van hire will be around $30 per day for a total of $3600

Rent or buy a camper van?
2008-09-19 15:28:00
I would like to buy a Camper Van in Sydney but I have a dilemma: would be more convenient to rent it or just buy one?By browsing on the web I discovered my dream van: used vans with lots of camping gears, quite cheap and completely “hippies”!I noticed that the cheapest are the ones that must be sold in a short time frame sometimes also in a matter of days as the owner is probably another trave

What about Australia?
2008-09-19 13:51:00
Australia is a HUGE continent which we would like to explore and see as much as we can on our way and our own time ideally with a campervan to be as flexible as possible and make us feel even more free with no boundbury and no stress but we realize we can’t just fit it in all!So, on the three months that we are planning to spend in this amazing country we decide to focus on the East Coast and we

Getting serious!
2008-09-19 13:18:00
Fed up of the 9-5 routine and caught the travel bug after few travels around the Europe we decide is time to take the leap soonish although the hardest thing is actually do it!Haven’t decide yet when and where maybe cause scare to leave our comfort zone for the unknown, the uncertain of where we are going to be, what we will see and probably also mainly what the hell we will do once back!We are

The first big step: the RTW Ticket
2008-11-15 16:38:00
RTW ticket, literally “round the world”, do exactly what it says and it is probably the cheapest and easy solution for a travel around the world although there might be a bewildering selection of options available and it can be a time-consuming experience (bad also if you rely on Sta Travel but I will talk about this encounter later on) but don’t stop on the first easy option and look out fo

Insurance dilemma?
2008-11-07 19:14:00
Boring stuff, I know, and I can hide that we have been really confused in the ocean of insurance providers out there in which is easy to drown yourselves in, but insurance is an essential part of planning a trip especially a looong trip.Backpacker insurance is in fact specifically designed to cover independent travelers for long periods of time, up to 2 years, and visiting different countries on t

What about New Zealand?
2008-11-01 16:22:00
I read many posts about the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of Zealand .htm">New Zealand not to mention the hospitality of “Kiwi” themselves which we look forward to and that is why we decide to spend almost two months in this country, which I am sure Christian will love it!The spectacular scenery from the white sands of the Bay of Islands to the lush forests and glaciers brrrrr and so much more...can't

London city
2008-10-31 20:09:00
Why London?Well, it would be the starting point of our RTW trip and it is the city we have been living so far since 5 years.. actually is now 6 years, gosh the time is flying!Living in London is a truly amazing adventure although it has been a real challenge for us first of all as foreigners, if you read through my posts you will realize my English is still sh…ty, and also cause its fast and bus

RTW Ticket: travel agents VS airlines
2008-12-06 17:49:00
If you are fussy like me and you watch out where every penny goes, you would want to go around to as many travel agents as possible to find out the best deal for your RTW ticket, but would all the time spent worth it or just waste it as any travel agent will come up with the same ticket? In my short experience, even within the same travel company you would get few surprises if you drop in different

Travel Money: getting ready for our RTW trip
2008-12-03 12:41:00
When start planning this RTW trip we gave little thought about the Travel Money ’s matter to take with us and honestly I thought it would have been a bit more fun the whole planning bit but this subject brought us as well a big headache and confusion (on top of sort it out the travel insurance and the right RTW ticket). What's more the current economic recession is not helping us at all as the Pou

Credit crunch, our answer: let's quit and travel around the world
2008-12-01 13:54:00
When it comes the time of quitting our jobs I guess it was more easy that what expected.I felt a bit guilty of leaving my work as I knew it they were relying on me, although I am sure nobody is essential in any workplace, and due to the faithfulness toward my colleagues I decide to give a bit more than two months notice than the month required by my contract so they would have more time to replace

High Tech gadgets for our RTW trip
2008-11-30 11:35:00
Photo camera: I decided to bring my dear old Fujifilm 5500, it is now well overtaken by others digital cameras but it still does great pictures and good enough for an amateur photographer like me.Marta instead prefer something more compact: her Sony Cyber-shot 7.2 megaPixel digital camera, again it is a last year model but still fantastic camera, light and capable of taking high resolution picture

Backpacker or flashpacker? Or what about gap-packer?
2008-11-22 15:59:00
I recently stumble across few interesting posts on “What’s your travel style” and to my surprise I was not familiar with the term flashpacker and the subject intrigued me that I went to find out more.I thought of Chris and I as 2 backpackers but we will have probably to “reinvent” ourselves as it looks like we don't fit in this category: first of all we are too oldisch to be a backpacker
