Panalangin by Moonstar88 (video + lyrics)
2006-10-22 06:42:47
Sponge Cola’s “Bitiw” is struggling to stay on as my LSS because Moonstar88’s remake of that Apo Hiking Society hit “Panalangin” has been stuck in repeat in my mp3 player for almost 1 week now. The song is bitter-sweet. Nostalgic and hopeful. Jeez, I’m getting all cheesy once more. Ahem…without further delay I share to you the video , which is quite cute and weird at the same time plus the lyrics to this wonderful and simply heartwarming tune by Apo. Enjoy Panalangin Moonstar 88 I. A nice way to dispose of your old gadgets
2006-10-22 01:52:45
If you happen to own a PC that was built from scratch (assembled is the term more popularly used in the Philippines) and it’s over two years old, I’m pretty sure there came a time when you saw or heard of this cool new peripheral or part that had you drooling over it. It may be a raving new video card, a bigger and faster hard drive or even a new optical mice that feels uber good to the touch. Simply put, you’ve upgraded your machine to suit your needs or simply wet your appetite for being on the latest edge of techno revolution. Based on my experience with upgrading PCs and being techno-junkie myself, upgrading or getting new parts for your machine generally falls under two categories or reasons: 1) Replacing damaged or worn out parts. After a year or two of computing heaven, you’ll notice that your machine would slowdown, take a few more minutes to boot up, rip or burn Cd’s a little slower or just crash in the middle of a frag fest or a last-minute dash

My Top 5 Celebrities
2006-10-21 16:27:25
This is not a tag really, just a list of the top 5 celebrities on my list. The reasons they are among my favorites and a few random things I know about them. Things like this support the proposition that my self and this blog of mine is not solely about science, technology and other geeky stuff. Fret not though, to think that this will be a gossip or celebrities news post, trust me you would find this celebrities Blog a much better read as compared to this blog of mine. Anyways, and without further delay I give you the following top 10 Celebrities in my personal list and this is in no particular order. Sean Connery - okay he is old but he’s among my most admired and idolized actors out there. I’m a fan of his films and his scottish accent. It sounds so regal and so authoritative. The first Sean Connery film that I saw was “First Knight”, which co-starred Richard Gere and that beautiful actress. (I forgot her name and I’m too lazy to ask Google for it as of

Where's my beer belly?
2006-10-21 14:34:46
“Bottom’s up!” These words are now all too familiar for us men - both young and especially the grown ups - which would then be followed by cheers, beer mugs, shot glasses or bottles banging against each other, more cheers, giggles which in turn would be replaced by another similar sound. “Chug…chug..chug….slurp…ahh!” Brings back fond memories doesn’t it? I remember when I had my first bottle of the good stuff, back in my highschool sophomore year. Surrounded by my friends, my reluctance to take my first sip of that foul-smelling, yellowish brew was dampened by their geers, challenges and name-callings. Shutting down my rational being for a second, I went for it. A gulp, followed by another, battling the resistance of my throat and bowels, flushing it all down and sucking up the horrible aftertaste with a cringe on my face, I am now a man. Or the typical form of it. This was confirmed by louder cheers, claps, high fives, a pat on the

A collection of Mac Spoofs
2006-10-19 16:52:19
Last Tuesday, Michael from the uber-cool Apple Gazette has posted a list of the Top 10 Apple Commercials of all Time. Mac users and wannabes all over the world were treated to a splendid selection of excellent, brilliant, down-right hilarious and catchy commercials that only the advertising geniuses at Apple could come up with. These short films sparked and galvanized a cult following that has made Macs and Apple true icons of our digital age. The post has even inspired me to prowl YouTube.com for something of the similar theme. What I found are spoofs of the now popular ‘Get a Mac‘ commercials which are witty and funny in their right. The spoof vidoes could either be a dessert after watching all Top 10 Apple videos I’ve mentioned or something that would put me and my blog in the blacklist of die-hard Mac afficionados. But hey, just like what is said on the makers of the spoof videos’ site TrueNuff TV: Macs are great. So are PCs. So are toasters - what’s y

What if mobile phone batteries were recalled?
2006-10-18 04:51:47
For some time now, we’ve been hearing, reading and writing - for bloggers and journalists - about the past episodes wherein big tech manufacturers and suppliers had to recall hundreds if not thousands of their products because of one or more defective parts. The most typical and popular of most recent recalls were about the defective batteries and particularly, batteries for laptops and notebooks like the Apple MacBook whose battery were supplied by Sony. Troublesome and frustrating for users; embarassing, damaging and costly for manufacturers defective batteries have reminded us all that in our present times, no matter how much we have pushed the envelop of technological development, no matter how much we miniaturise, compress, and pack more features and horsepower into our techno gadgets, the mobile ones in this case, without the aging battery we still use today all of them are utterly useless. Plastic or titanium-skinned paperweights with a pricetag of well over Php30,000. Of

10-Driver Safety Tips
2006-10-15 08:05:08
I found this note lying around the house while I was in search for a battery charger for my mobile phone. Though I don’t own or drive a car of my own, the safety tips enumerated in the little flier are excellent points to remember when using your mobile phone while on the road. When driving a car, driving is your first responsibility. When using your wireless phone behind the wheel of a car, practice good common sense and remember the following tips: 1. Get to know your wireless phone and its features such as speed dial and redial. If available, these features help you to place your call without taking your attention off the road. 2. When available, use a hands free device. If possible, add an additional layer of convenience and safety to your wireless phone with one of the many hands free accessories available today. 3. Position your wireless phone within easy reach. Be able to access your wireless phone without removing your eyes from the road. If you get an incoming call at an

The most effective way of waste disposal
2006-10-13 02:43:52
I was asked the following question; “What is the most effective way of waste disposal?” in one of my major exams in Ecology class about a week ago. Following the discussions we had, these were the choices that popped in my mind; recycling, waste segregation, re-using, incineration, the use of landfills. I chose recycling and wrote down the following very short essay to support my answer: The most effective way of waste disposal is recycling - in the truest sense of it. It follows the fundmental law of physics that matter is neither created nor destroyed; it is simply transformed from one state - being solid, liquid, gas (and okay) plasma. Once we have mastered the techniques and technologies of recycling; such that a product or material once looses it usefulness - due to damage, wear, or being outdated or simply unwanted - can easily be broken down into its basic components and those components be used to make another product with the minimal of additional new materials and

Bitiw by Sponge Cola (Video + lyrics)

It’s official! I have another sever case of LSS or last song syndrome. The culprit; Spong Cola’s new rocking hard single; Bitiw. Next to Sugarfree, my substitute for pinoy music in the style and tradition of E-heads, Sponge Cola remains my all-time favorite Pinoy bands today. I’m pretty sure a lot of people out there would agree with me. So without further delay, I share with you Sponge Cola’s “Bitiw” the video and lyrics to boot. m/ Bitiw Spongecola Tama walang laglagan At sama-samang hanapin ang liwanag At tayo'y magpapaalon sa isang daluyong Na maghahatid sa atin Sa isang mahabang panaginip "di na hihinto [Chorus 1] "wag kang bibitiw bigla "wag kang bibitiw bigla Higpitan lang ang "yong kapit Maglalayag patungong langit Teka, kaya ba natin "to Kung hindi na'y aakayin ka't Itatayo "yun-'yon Kaya hanggang ngayon Tuloy-tuloy, tuloy-tuloy, tuloy [Repeat chorus 1] [Chorus 2] "wag kang bibitiw bigla Pikit ang "yong mga mata H

What if Google had an office in the Philippines?
2006-10-05 15:35:42
The question in my title is actually asked by Philippine SEO guru Marc Macalua, in the Philippine SEO community’s mailing list. He had another ‘eureka’ moment and things went on from there. Along with the main idea espoused in the title above, he had the following setting drawn up in his mind: Pretend for a minute that Google had a Philippine office and was very active in the local webmaster/SEO scene. Imagine meeting one of the Googlers in the next SEO Philippines EB. 1- What questions would you ask him? 2- What gripes/complaints would you raise? 3- What suggestions would you give? Hmm..pretty interesting and exciting isn’t it? A lot of the members in the mailing list have already pitched in their clever questions-answers to the three mentioned above. You have to join the mailing list in order to find out what they answered and I’m telling you, it would be well worth your time and effort. As for my answers to this fancy dream-come-true scenario I have the

Things I could do if I get fat
2006-10-24 05:01:57
I remember back in high school, my girlfriend then would ask me if she was fat or not. This was one of the toughest questions I ever tackled, let alone considered, and I prayed to high heavens for guidance in answering such an impossible question. My predicament was, I were to answer “No, you’re not fat.” She would then think that I’m just pulling her leg or she has become very thin. Which she didn’t want. My own form is perfect reminder not to loose that much weight. She would then become depressed or sad which would then be a big problem for me for I will get the ugly end of it. I answered the opposite, which is not true of course, for she was not fat, she was just in the right shape. This would never work because she would think that I think that she IS fat and the whole picture gets uglier again. To put it into perspective for her not to be bothered at all, I would point to one of our classmates who were definitely fat and say, “She IS fat. Now l

The ideal nose
2006-10-24 16:44:10
I’ve been sneezing frequently for the whole day. A tell-tale sign that my immune system is in the heat of fighting off a foreign invader that has entered through my nose. I just wish my body defenders would hold out and prevent myself from getting the common cold. It should, I’m going to facilitate a Voters’ Education training tomorrow and I can’t afford to speak in front of an audience (DLSU-D’s University Student Council body that is) with a running nose and sneezing every five minutes or so. As I scratch my nose in between the keystrokes of writing this piece, memories and thoughts about noses run through my mind. (Qui-Gon Jinn was right, “your focus determines your reality”.) I remember a classmate of mine back in my freshman highschool days who was brave (foolish really) enough to stand up and get himself into a brawl with a senior. Longing for the Windy City
2006-10-24 15:33:07
The semestral break is almost over and pretty, though the new semester may come through, Christmas break is not that far behind. With that in mind, childhood dreams of mine sometimes come back from deep inside my memories. Among them is paying a visit to my relatives living in Chicago, Illinois and spend my vacation with them. Most of relatives are already living in ‘the windy city’ ever since my grandparents migrated to the US long before I was born. They settled there, found a very good living and have lived the ‘American dream’ - to a modest level at most. Still, it was enough to support us who were still here in the Philippines. Sometimes I cannot help but wonder that twenty one years of being continents apart would’ve done something profound to our families. It’s a long time and this I could clearly see in my grandparents’ faces in the pictures they send, usually sometime after Christmas. Time and gravity has shaped and molded the faces of

Back with Firefox 2, AVG 7.5 and a new book
2006-10-27 16:48:44
After being off line and away from home for two days I feel that the world has already went so far ahead of me I woke up to a lot new things today. First up was my new set of subjects for the coming second semester. I have a full academic load, well nearly full, and it looks like that I’ll have quite a challenging time to spend time online as compared to before. Then again, for students like me, school comes first. (Yeah right! Right?) Aside from my new academic load, I have bought a new book. “Doctor on the Boil” by Richard Gordon is hilarious story about a hospital, old men who refuse to give way to the future, and nurse’s skirts getting shorter and shorter. I’ve only started reading the first 4 pages and I’m already close to laughing my head off. Another good excuse to stay off line and not update this blog of mine and enjoy the rest of the semestral break. (Yeah right! Right?…again?) Speaking of enjoyment, I’m savoring the latest news

Highschool rules, hair gel and hair loss
2006-10-26 14:35:25
When I was back in highschool, there was one simple rule every male student understood and followed with great zeal. “Touch not my hair, or else suffer great despair.” Okay, okay it’s not really a law written in the school handbook and promulgated by the student body but in every school across the province, a social norm, a social contract of this sense and practice is observed. Hair gel, hair polish, hair cream, or any other product or substance known to make one’s hair in line (shape, form and cut to be precise) with the latest trend as espoused in MTV or by the popular teen idols of our times, was the cause of drawing up this rule and is one of the most valued commodities of that time and even up to now. It did work, for it controlled, styled, and maintained nearly all hair types to achieve the desired effects; look ‘hip and cool’, attract the most number of girls in campus, declare a sense of being a rebel, and finally aid in the winning over the

Dreaming it big

When I first started blogging, I had the dream that one day I’ll make it big in this endeavor. My name would resound throughout the world wide web and even reverberate in the offline world. Problogging, it’s a dream-career for me. I know that it would not most likely happen overnight, (unless of course I come up with that Digg-inducing phenomenal post that would catapult me to big blogging sucess) and I would have to slug it out by working hard to improve my craft, writing, relating and dealing with my fellow bloggers and readers. I would have to adapt continuosly to the ever-changing landscape of the blog-o-sphere, the readers and audience, and the web for that matter. Come up with some innovations, twists and strategies of my own and master SEO to stay near the top of this blogging game. Expanding into learning and eventually mastering some under-the-hood blogging like designing my own theme from scratch, hacking WordPress or even writing my own plugin to combat spam and

Growing old and looking young
2006-10-26 14:26:44
Some years ago, back in my highschool days I found my self in one of those life-turning, mind-bending and your-reputation-is-at-stake situations so typical when you mix in closely-knit highschool buddies with the urge to know secrets, something alcoholic and the empty bottle from which that something came from. Yes, it’s the ever so faithful ’spin the bottle’ game though childish at first reckoning, it has never failed to highten up boring gatherings or idle times with your classmates, buddies and even co-workers. The highschool pecking order is thrown out of the window and under the power of that spinning bottle, every one else in the circle is of the same level. Round and round it goes, tensions increase with the gaggles, laughters and giggles ending up in the ceremonial screams of despair coming who was “it.” I was not spared. Facing the threat of a dreadful consequence to which I wasn’t - at that time - ready enough to do, I went for the other o

Intel ships Quad-Core CPU
2006-11-03 01:18:36
Woke up this morning to this tech-review from PC Magazine: Intel ’s Quad -Core CPU (codenamed Kentsfield) Arrives…and Delivers. First, it knocked all the sleepiness from my head wishful thoughts started racing inside my mind. “I wish I could get that cool Quad-Core chip from Intel” and so on. Then again, it’s a thousand-dollar chip and that fact alone made me wonder is it really for a consumer (who could barely afford such a price tag as of now) like me who’s not that an extreme of a gamer? As pointed out in the review by PC Magazine, it’s not. Even if we ordinary netizens could manage to cough up a thousand dollars for that new chip, we’d notice very little improvements in our everyday computing simply because we’re not really using that much chip-power with our Firefox 2’s, blogging habits, casual photo editing, listening to music we got from the net (legally or otherwise) and that’s similar to buying a whole publishing

How life is organized
2006-11-08 15:47:50
I’m back to blogging again! Now I wonder if anyone has missed me. moleskine notebooks I’ve ordered to arrive. And that’s what keeping me from rushing out to get a personal organizer. These organs by themselves can do wonders on their own, but unfortunately, no living thing can exist solely as an organ so inorder to achieve that we must move on to the next level of complexity and organization; take some several organs and make them work together, you get an organ system. Imagine if the penis was not part of your urinary system. Moving on, simply take some various organ systems and you’ll end up with an organism. Like a fly, mango tree and the one reading this entry. Of course, “birds of the same together; flock together” rings true of this next level of organization; population. Organisms of the same kind, or species living in a particular area. “No man is an island” they say, and it would most certainly be boring on this planet if every

To me by Bogs feat Yum v.4

On a few occassions and personal posts on this blog of mine I’ve mentioned one of the most important and dearly loved persons in my life. It’s my best friend and long-time buddy Bogsy. We’ve known each other since we were like little kids. We went to the same school from kindergarten to highschool and practically grew up into the kind of men we are today; noisy, rowdy, down-right smart and out to prove something to the world. We’ve been through a hell of a lot things and still going strong. Though we may not spend each waking day together like other best friends out there but there’s no need to. Though we miss each other, and the rest of our gang so much, though we seldom see each of each other, the bonds between us has grown so strong that all we need to do is to send a txt message and we’re fixed until the next time. Unlike me, Bogs was gifted in the arts. He was once the dancing king of our school, one heck of director/writer and one that has a g
