Me and my travels Margo Stilley, actress
2008-10-27 23:33:58
North Korea. Only about 800 Americans have been in the past 60 years and I just wanted to see what it was like. I'd never been to China and you have to fly in via Beijing. China was so foreign to me, but Pyongyang was so much more alien that, after a week there, it felt like home to be back in Beijing. It was like going back in a time machine to a different era on a different planet.

Then we started the tour. The driver could have been a stand-up comedian. He actually did stand up and deliver his funny l

Palin’s travels: journey to Louis Vuitton and beyond
2008-10-27 23:31:40
OH HOW the world likes to get its knickers in a twist over women's clothes. Or how much women spend on clothes, to be more precise. Only a mass moose slaughter might have caused as much global outrage as the revelations that the Republican committee has spent £90,000 since August clothing vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family. These garments are not washing well with the public.

Beautiful Beach and a Broken Bus
2008-10-27 23:23:55
Lots of sleeping on the bus, and it was back into France, destination, Nice. On the way we had a stop over at a perfumery. It was just in time, as the tyre under where we were sitting sounded flat. The perfume tour of Fragonard wasn't the most riveting, but I did learn that the alcohol used in perfume comes from beetroot. Who knew!

Sipadan {Darrell}
2008-10-27 23:09:55
The only reason we had ended up in Malaysian Borneo was that we were looking for a link between the Philippines and Indonesia, and the cheapest option was to fly through Kota Kinabalu. As we started to look into Sabah, the Eastern province, we found more and more to do there.Aside from having some of the world's best primary rainforest, and one of the highest peaks in Asia, just off the East coast

More Bali
2008-10-27 22:58:34
Sorry guys, somehow my post of Borobudur and Indonesian Borneo didn't get published so just did it now. Chornologically, it's out of order as we went there first when we got to Indonesia. We went to a couple of other performances in Ubud. For fans of the Bob Hope, Bing Crosby "Road to Bali" movie, the dance that Jane Russell does in the movie is based on the Lebong dance. At times the three girls

Which U.S. cities charge travelers the most taxes
2008-10-27 22:57:55
Perhaps you've been one of those folks to receive your hotel bill and you clutch your chest in dismay. "My word! How can this be?" you exclaim. You didn't touch your mini-bar. You didn't use the phone. You didn't slip so much as a washcloth into your luggage. Still, your bill is well over what you expected. What you thought was a bargain vacation has turned into more than you counted on. How come?

Requiem for a Dying Star
2008-11-17 00:48:07
Why do Americans have lawns? Should they despise walking from porch or stoop to Chevy or mailboxon weed or soil? Must that void between abode and avenue be filled−or could the distance lie bare like the pitchy trail of aphelion? Feign feral! If a moat be dug then of course swamp the ditch turbid. Sneering crocodiles sliding under brambles like rusty fishhooks. It is perfectly possible to fall ha

'Hour' travels through tragedy of past, future
2008-11-17 00:46:42
There is a moment in Wally Lamb's new novel, "The Hour I First Believed," that is excruciating in its heartbreak and loss. It's a scene that might cause readers to drop their books in shock and sadness, or perhaps howl in protest. This turn in the plot took Lamb by surprise, he admits. But in retrospect, and given his penchant for modeling his novels after the archetypical tales of Greek mythology

Marco Polo's Thane travels Mansi Choksi
2008-11-17 00:44:13
MUMBAI: Sketches of ancient explorers are usually slapped between boring dates and forgettable names in history textbooks. What if they were to suddenly jump out and start shaking a leg to some hot jazz? What if you were told that Marco Polo not only travelled up the Silk Road to China and dined with Gengis Khan's grandson but also stopped for shelter at Thane on a rainy day? Or that King Solomon'

Traveling Solo: You Are Not Alone
2008-11-17 00:11:38
I just moved out of my parents' house and into a one-bedroom apartment about fifteen minutes away by car. While this does not sound like a daunting "trip," there is more to living alone than meets the eye. In fact, as I type this with no other sound but the whir of my bedroom fan, I am reminded of the pangs of loneliness that I occasionally feel when traveling solo on the far reaches of this plane

Ranong & Victoria Point
2008-11-17 00:09:34
I regretted for not heeding the advice on the forum on which Mobile operator to use in Thailand. The ORANGE SIM card almost made me turn RED. My friend Virat in Ranong ระนอง and I tried very hard to contact each other and what we got is “Kor Tuk Ka… tik-tok….”. My frustration is compounded earlier by the courtesy accorded by Budget rent-a-car in Phuket airport for assigning me a

The far side (of Koh Tao) via Surat Thani
2008-11-17 00:05:06
After escaping the mad rains on Koh Phi Phi and a very soggy boat crossing to Krabi, we ended up yet again in Krabi Town for the night and yet another guest house. And this one was ok - yay! (Good Dreams) So another day in Krabi and another journey out - this time north-east to Surat Thani. Unfortunately, this particualr journey highlighted a flaw in our travel plans. Our lacsidasical 'we've been

Campeche, Merida and Valladolid
2008-11-17 00:00:19
From Palenque I went to the small colonial town of Campeche for 1 night. Unfortunatly I was there Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, when everything was closed so it was really quiet and there wasn’t much to do. But it was a nice town and it was interesting to walk around the walls, which were built by the Spanish to protect the town from pirates. On Monday afternoon I took a short bus ride

Skiing in the Alps
2008-11-16 23:45:06
Not too many ski regions allow you the ability to cross as many borders as does skiing in the Alps. You can hit the mountain from any angle (or country, shall I say) and experience the unique cultures of France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, and other Eastern European countries.\ While skiing is the main daily activity in towns like Les Gets and Livigno, food is looked at as more than just a means

The airline is called AirAsia , and it is the first airline in the world to do away with fuel surcharges.
