Google Buys JotSpot, Offers Free Wiki Pages 2007-04-03 00:32:00 With JotSpot purchase, Google
enhances its Web-based collaboration offerings. In a bid to grow beyond its roots as a search engine, Google has acquired JotSpot, a developer of wiki technology for collaborative Web sites. Earlier this month, Google announced that it would offer online word processing and spreadsheet applications to its millions of Web searchers. The company also has a blogging service, but hasn’t yet introduced a tool for Web-based collaboration. Now Google has filled that gap by acquiring JotSpot , according to a Tuesday post on JotSpot’s blog by its cofounder and CEO, Joe Kraus. He did not disclose the terms of the deal, and Google did not answer requests for comment. Joining Google allows us “to plug into the resources that only a company of Google’s scale can offer,” like a huge audience, access to world-class data centers, and a team of incredibly smart people, Kraus said in his blog. Google accidentally sends out e-mail worm 2007-04-03 00:29:00 Google on Tuesday inadvertently sent the Kama Sutra e-mail worm to the 50,000 subscribers of a Google Video e-mail group. Three postings were made Tuesday evening to an e-mail list that sends out postings to the Google Video blog. “Some of these posts may have contained a virus called W32/Kapser.A@mm—a mass-mailing worm,” Google said in a note on its Web site apologizing for the incident. W32/Kapser.A is better known as the Kama Sutra worm. Some antivirus companies raised an alarm about the threat in February, but it ultimately shriveled. Kama Sutra was designed to overwrite files on infected computers on a specific date. However, the worm, which spread under the guise of pornographic content, caused virtually no damage.Google advises people who may have received the worm in e-mail or downloaded it from the group’s Web site to run an antivirus program to remove it. The company is taking steps to make sure it doesn’t make the same mistake again, it said. The Google Video e-mai Read more:Google
Shocking Online Fraud Numbers, 1 in 10 fall victim to fraud 2007-04-03 00:28:00 Either the internet community is highly blind whenever it comes to what is a online fraud and what isn’t, or online fraud is on the rise, sadly it is probably both. With recent reports stating that 1 in 10 online users have fell victim
to online fraud, losing on average around $2,000 to the internet fraud, the internet is quickly becoming more of a risk when users sign on. With the staggering results of the study stating 1 in 10 internet users have fell victim to internet fraud, a closer look shows that some of the supposed “most secure” internet places often contain the most fraud. Shopping is a prime example, shopping across the internet is quickly becoming one of the most popular users for the internet, with it providing a comfortable shop in your chair experience, however, I was surprised to see that 6% of people have been led into fraud by online shopping, the cause of losing thousands of dollars by fraud, while another 3% lost their credit card and bank account information Read more:Numbers
Yahoo! Mail Is A Topper, No More Storage Limit 2007-04-02 23:54:00 Google did it first, with their steadily increasing storage limit, which virtually provided no cap on how much storage you use for e-mail, but Yahoo
! has taken it a step further, with their “why wait?” attitude they have made the storage of all users of their email service unlimited. Starting in May, users of the Yahoo! email service will be able to use their email to hearts will, with no caps on it they can use it for more than just mail however. With unlimited space you also have unlimited opportunities of what to do with it, however, most people who are using it for its space, are going to use it as online storage for any document they want. The biggest potential beneficiary of this unlimited e-mail storage is small business,” said Samir Bhavnani, research director for technology research firm Current Analysis. He noted that a small business might otherwise be inclined to set up its own e-mail server in large part because of storage needs. He then continued to say that it wil Read more:Limit

Google launches 800GOOG411 2007-04-11 23:17:00 Google has recently launched it’s own 411 service, perhaps in response to Microsoft’s purchase of Tellme networks which specialize in telephone based applications. This new service is ad-supported, like most of Google’s applications, and is basically another step in Google’s plan to introduce add-supported search services. Techcrunch writes :"Goog-411 can be accessed by dialing 1-800-GOOG-411. The product is completely automated and there is no way to talk to a human for additional or clarifying information. You tell it your city and state, and then ask for a specific business or business category. In my tests the product was excellent. Although the voice recognition was only working at about 70% efficiency, I just said “back” and retried when it didn’t understand what I said. Results are spoken back or text messaged back to you, and you are automatically put through to the phone number requested." Read more:Google
Yahoo’s New Media Device 2007-04-11 22:42:00 Yahoo has just announced a cool new wifi device, called the SanDisk Sansa Connect, that comes ready to listen to Yahoo Music and it also syncs up with your Flickr account. This is much like that Apple's I pod and Microsoft's Zune The Sansa Connect is $250 and comes with 4 GB of memory and a (small) 2.2 inch screen. It requires $15 or so per month for access to a large library of songs, this may be a device for music fans. Yahoo’s music collection have a total of 1 million+ songs which if available on a portable device is going to be attractive. But as the DRM walls fall, owning songs outright will be more attractive to many users than the indefinite subscription approach. Yahoo’s Ian Rogers said : "For those of you about to complain about the $12/month to get unlimited tracks (like, um, Steve Jobs), check yourself before you riggity wreck yourself. Labels and artists get paid for every radio play and every Yahoo! Music download to the Sansa Connect, whereas we all know iPods a Read more:Yahoo

How to use BitTorrent 2007-04-13 13:40:00 BitTorrent is a Peer-To-Peer protocol for file sharing. Bittorrent is a way to distribute large amounts of data without the original distributor having bear the entire cost of hardware, resources, etc. With Bittorrent, instead of one person distributing the files to everyone, as more and more people recieve the files, they also become distributors. Eventually, after the file has been downloaded to many computers, a new download may get bits and pieces of the file from hundreds of users. This method of file sharing reduces the burden on any one particular source and ensures redudancy becuase a download is not depending on only one source having the file.A BitTorrent client is a program that uses the BitTorrent protocol and is capable of creating, requesting and transferring any computer file over the network. In order to share files with other, a peer (computer wil BitTorrent software installed) creates a "torrent". A torrent is a small file that contains meta data about which files are

Luckily now, the new firefox add-on is ready to be downloaded here and will provide all Mozilla Firefox users with an even better media experience, where the browser was limited before today. How to find files on RapidShare ; Search Rapidshare 2007-05-01 13:10:00 Method # 1If you dont know already, RapidShare is a website in which users can upload files
, no matter the format, and give links to others to download the files. There is a 50MB limit per file, and you can only download a set number of MB per hour, but it is still a VERY usefull service in transfering data. The only thing is, you cannot search their database for files, you have to specifically be given a link to a file. This “hack”, however, allows you to search for files on RapidShare, through google. Use the following links: For misc files. For executables, rared archives, zip files. For videos. Search
ing for a specific file using a word Type on Google the following: Quote:cab OR exe OR rar OR zip “example” site:rapidshare.de Where “example” is the specific file you want to search.Method # 2There are other Sites which list huge records of files uploaded on Rapidshare..Two of such sites are as following :RapidsharingRapidsharedIf you guys know of any other sites,,, please
How To: Get More Readers 2007-05-01 12:24:00 Magic Smoke wrote about these great tips to get more readers to your Blog :Blog Herald recently linked to Problogger.net's 11 Techniques to Increase Page Views on Your Blog. The 11 tips are geared to professional bloggers (or folks with inclinations that way), and a bunch of them are geared to specific features available to advanced blogging platforms like (WordPress), but it's still an interesting read -- some takeaways for regular folks include Serializing Content, Making Things Interactive, and Highlighting Key Posts. Who will be the "Best Company of the Year"? 2007-04-30 17:59:00 Watchmojo wonders which lucky entrant will be chosen as the "Best Internet Company of the Year." As with Time's "Person of the Year," earning this distinction isn't always a blessing: Some previous winners (Google, Cisco...) have gone on to greatness. Others (Netscape, Altavista) have just gone to zero. JJ: There are no strong candidates right now but I have my eye on Craigslist, Facebook, LinkedIn, and possibly Aquantive as 2007 breakout stars. (I would have included AKAM if earnings were a blowout yesterday). Previous Winners: 1994: AOL.com 1995: Netscape 1996: Altavista 1997: eBay 1998: Yahoo! 1999: Amazon.com 2000: Lycos 2001: Napster 2002: Google 2003: Cisco 2004: Skype 2005: MySpace 2006: YouTube

Some may think so. Google, being the publisher of the ads is now rethinking there method of approval for the desired ads to be published, with the news of some of their advertisements being “hi-jacked” with spyware, it could cause potential users of the advertising to turn away and go to other sources. Google is well aware of this, and have already taken swift action. “We cancelled the affected ads as soon as we were made aware of the problem,” Google spokesperson Diana Adair told ClickZ News in an e-mail. Internet Speed Record Broken 2007-04-30 17:41:00 Scientist have broken the internet speed record, previously set at 7.67 Gbps, they were able to send data at 9.8 Gbps over a 20,000 miles distance at a constant rate. For an example of how fast this is, a high-def movie that typically takes 40 hours on a typical broadband connection would only take a few seconds if this connection was open for public use. Tokyo(Japan) Scientist are the ones that broke the record at the Internet

With this break through they have not only given further proof of what internet speed holds for us in the future, but have laid a path for other scientist to follow in bringing us a better online experience. Adsense Alternatives ( HoT ToPiC ) 2007-04-29 23:14:00 This is one of the most hot topic nowadays that i am posting here about...Recently Google lifted the ban on having third party ads along side Adsense
. ”When it comes to enforcing policies on third-party contextual ads, we’ll be following the updated program policies instead of the T&Cs on this point. That is to say, publishers may now display other contextual ads on the same site or page as Google ads as long as they don’t have the same look and feel as our ads” This is great news for webmasters and bloggers and the market is now full of quality alternatives. Here is my complete guide to all of the main alternatives to adsense. More than 11,000 Years of Downtime in March 2007-04-29 20:44:00 Pingdom is big on monitoring websites for downtime and is truly an amazing service. You can pay a monthly fee to have Pingdom monitor your own site, but they also have a service called Pingdom GIGRIB that currently monitors 2,000 websites across the Web. The GIGRIB service is unique in how it works, and is actually free. The reason it doesn’t cost anything is because you have to setup your computer to run the software, which will monitor other websites for downtime. For every one hour that your server does checking for downtime on other sites, you receive five hours of checking from other servers. I like to compare it to the BitTorrent network where the work is distributed across thousands of computers. This is the same service that we mentioned a few weeks ago that monitored the downtime of the top 20 sites on the Internet. If you use the GIGRIB service, your downtime stats are also made publically available, which makes it fun watch for downtime on some sites like YouTube (who has Read more:Years

Chesspark 2007-04-29 20:39:00 I Found this great post at CyberNetNewsHere's what they have to write :Despite this, when someone pointed out Chesspark to me, I thought I’d give chess another shot. It’s the classic game of chess, but it’s just met up with Web 2.0. Features: Play against the computer, or play with other members.Integrated chat– you can chat with any of the people that you’re playing with.Multiple levels – obviously not everybody is a chess expert. Ratings – You’re given a rating which gives people an idea of how hard you are to beat. This also helps to match you up with people who play at a similar level.Time controlled games – meaning you can set a certain time limit so that each person is only given a set amount of time to make their move. In the future, they plan on offering lessons for those who want to step up their game. Chesspark has been around for several months, and it looks like people are pretty happy with it. Yahoo! Web Messenger is Quite Good 2007-05-03 23:27:00 Click to Enlarge Yahoo
! refuses to be left behind in the world of online communication, so they too have launched their own Web Messenger
. Their new messenger service is completely Flash based which is nice because of the cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility that it offers. It will work in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, and even Opera. After logging in I noticed a small popup that announced two features of the Web messenger, which included compatibility with Windows Live Messenger (which their desktop client already offered) and message history. The message history is new according to them (I haven’t used Yahoo! messenger in awhile) and it sounds like it works just like Google’s: IM conversations with your friends can now be saved in your Yahoo! account on Yahoo! servers. This means you can access and search your message history from any computer - just like email! Other users may use this message history feature to save conversations with you in their accounts on
Google showing international language ads 2007-05-03 23:25:00 Google Ads are now not only limited to English. Now Google shows ads in different language

TV error replaces Disney with porn 2007-05-03 23:21:00 A red-faced US cable television company has apologized after a Disney
cartoon was replaced with a hardcore porn film. Comcast subscribers were left shocked when the "Handy Manny" cartoon on Playhouse Disney was interrupted by an X-rated movie, the New York Daily News reports. Shocked Paul Dunleavy was watching the cartoon with his five-year-old son when the porn kicked in. "It was two people doing their thing, it was full-on and it was disgusting," he said. "It wasn't something you'd expect to see on Cinemax, never mind Disney." Comcast has confirmed it was responsible for the error
that affected sections of New Jersey. "We had an isolated issue in a local New Jersey facility, we immediately detected the issue and it was corrected promptly," Comcast spokesman Fred DeAndrea said. Disney's Playhouse features cartoons geared towards youngsters between the ages of three to six.

s playing the addictive Counter Strike are nothing uncommon today, but things went seriously wrong for Texas teenager when he got suspended from Clements High School
for playing Counter Strike in his home computer, on a level which closely resembled his high school. The whole story came into light a day after Virginia Tech Shooting when a parent called the Clements High School to inform that their child was playing a video game which involved killing and took place inside an animated map of Clements High School. School authorities then found a website which had that map for download, but unfortunately the creator of the map was a student at their school. Law enforcement authorities were informed and they questioned the teenager. According to the police, the teenager never intended to cause any violence or to kill someone. His locker and computer were searched, but they found nothing illegal. Whether he was right or wrong, I leave that question to you, but what the school autho
45% of Europeans watch TV online 2007-05-03 23:12:00 A new study from Motorola has found that an amazing 45% of European broadband users now watch
at least some television online
.The survey covering the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain found that the French lead Europe in terms of online television consumption with 59% of people choosing to watch previews and episodes of their favorite shows via the web with the Germans trailing at 33%. The survey did not ask where the respondents obtained the content, ignoring the reality that many were possibly downloading television shows from BitTorrent or similar services. The results further strengthen the business models of startups such as Joost, that seek to target a massive potential audience through the use of streamed content over a P2P network, but with the safeguards of DRM and imposed advertising delivery built in. The survey also found that 45% of Europeans
expect to be making video calls via their home TV’s by 2012.
