Moving your WordPress weblog with the same domain name 2007-04-09 11:04:10 When you change hosts, the DNS nameservers have to update around the internet fully, so your blog could be unreachable for 24-72 hours. This is nothing to do with WordPress - it’s just the way it is.
Accessing your blog using a temporary address given to you by your host could also cause errors due to the way WP works. Best really to do this when you have the time, or plan ahead.
First, you must create a database backup. Instructions for doing this are here or use the excellent and highly recommended plugin from Skippy.
Secondly, you need to download your entire WordPress installation. Everything. If you are having to move domain
s, this is not the time to try and tidy up your install, or to upgrade / change anything. You can do that once it has been moved, and it is shown to be working.

How To Build Long Term Targeted Traffic 2007-04-08 19:29:36 I recently ran into an old friend who had a Second Hand shop up on the Avenue. After some small talk, I asked him how business was going, and he told me that he had closed the store down and moved to another location. I was somewhat surprised since he had been there for about 10 years. When I asked him why he had moved, he told me matter of factly, “Bill, you’ve got to go where the traffic is”. While that’s good general advice it’s a little different in the world of cyberspace. While there are some methods which will enable you to receive instant traffic, the reality for most of us is it takes time and effort to build a web presence and steady traffic. Build
ing long term traffic can be done in several ways, and the best part is many are FREE. Some of my favorites are; linking, traffic exchanges, writing articles, and posting to forums.

Google Launches Free 411 Service 2007-04-08 18:10:15 Google threw a new product called Goog-411 into Google Labs today - a free telephone based information service that could replace toll 411 calls. About 2.6 billion 411 calls are made in the U.S. each year, and it is a $7 billion/year market.
Goog-411 can be accessed by dialing 1-800-GOOG-411. The product is completely automated and there is no way to talk to a human for additional or clarifying information. You tell it your city and state, and then ask for a specific business or business category. In my tests the product was excellent. Although the voice recognition was only working at about 70% efficiency, I just said “back” and retried when it didn’t understand what I said. Results are spoken back or text messaged back to you, and you are automatically put through to the phone number requested. (more…)

Bad Web Design And Mistakes 2007-04-07 22:56:39 Okay, we know we all need to pay the bills. I know that many of us want to get traffic to our web sites. And some of us just want to make enough money to pay for our costs so that this thing we love to do is free.
But, come on, that doesn’t mean you should plaster a hundred ads or a dozen banners on every page of your web site. A banner here and there, a small button or a few text links is fine, but I’ve seen some web sites that have dozens and a few that have hundreds of ads on each page! Now this is just tacky and is virtually guaranteed to get your visitors to hit that handy back button fast.

What Blog Can Make Money? 2007-04-19 14:02:37 Truly the whole picture of making money blogging is simple:you blog (B), traffic comes to your blog (T), you PREsell to them (P) and finally monetize (M).
You may ask me
“I have blog and peoples are coming. I need to know how to monetize, though not sure about what the PREsell means. So, tell me how to monetize, NOW.”
Understandable request. But before you rush into monetization, there is something you must take care of, otherwise you’ll rush in vain.
I read some articles talking about “how to monetize or in what way can you make money from your blog.” They were OK and nothing was wrong.
But most of them were missing one thing, very important one.
If you have a lot of traffic, say 10,000 visitors a day, you may need to focus only for how to monetize. And the way of monetization is simple, something like placing banner, affiliate text link, Google Adsense, (listed a few) on your blog page. What you have to realize is that “B–T–P–M&r Read more:Money
The Webmasters top 30 Wordpress plug-ins 2007-04-27 11:05:21 The list is based on the Lists of favorite Wordpress
plugins, made by Lorelle last month. Lorelle found 48 lists with a total of 280 plugins that were recommended by other bloggers to their readers.
So I went through all those lists and compiled a spreadsheet of the mentioned plugins to see which of them were the most used in blogosphere. Here are the results:
The first place among Wordpress plugins goes to Akismet. 34 out of 48 bloggers are using this plugin. Obviously the spam is a very serious issue and Akismet is doing a great job combating it.
Google Sitemap Generator came in second with 27 votes. Looks like a lot of bloggers are starting to care about SEO and this plugin is the best tool to tell Google how it should crawl your blog and where to find everything you want found.
Related posts by Wasabi takes the third place. As the name suggests, this plugin generates a list of related posts based on the text of blog entry. It is a great tool to increase the stickiness of you Read more:Webmasters
