Austrian chicken lay ‘dyed Easter eggs’
2007-04-07 16:30:27
Vienna, April 6 (DPA) A small flock of hens owned by a chicken breeder in Tyrol, western Austria, offer a time-saving alternative to dying your Easter eggs, Austrian media reported Friday. Karin Sprenger’s clucks, cross-breeds between the South American Araucana chicken and local domestic hens - lay green eggs, the report said. The chicken farm owns only 10 of the Easter egg producing hens, originally acquired from a local animal fair. Shape and taste of the eggs were similar to normal eggs, Sprenger said. The only downside was that the chickens lay eggs only every other day, so the supply of the light green eggs is limited. The chicken themselves are more mundanely coloured - black, grey or brown. The colour of an egg is determined in the last five centimetres of the hen’s fallopian tubes, where the lime glands are situated. The South American Araucana hen normally lays blue eggs.

2007-04-10 16:54:02
New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) Underlining the importance of a “peaceful and prosperous neighbourhood”, India Tuesday reminded Pakistan that the “success” of the peace process will depend on Islamabad fulfilling its pledge not to allow terror activities from its soil against New Delhi. “For us, terrorism remains a particular concern. Infiltration continues from across the border,” Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon told a select gathering of strategic thinkers and retired diplomats here. The discussion meet was organised by the Observer Research Fund, a think tank specialising in strategy issues. “We have stressed to Pakistan that the success of the dialogue process is predicated on Pakistan fulfilling its commitment not to permit any territory under its control to be used to support terrorism in any manner,” Menon said. India presented evidence of the alleged complicity of Pakistan’s ISI in some recent terror attacks in its territory

According to Gandhi, his effort to row across the Atlantic solo will inspire others to take on greater challenges. “That is the biggest battle of them all. I have to get miles out of nature by pushing the boundaries of the equipment, body and mind. “I have been preparing myself for

2007-04-11 17:32:59
You are totally ruining “American Idol.” You and the King of All Culture Hackers, Howard Stern, that dude at VoteForTheWorst.com and maybe some other people … but mostly You. Okay, in context with the rest of the planet (and in relation to things that actually matter), maybe not a lot of people. But certainly a handful of talking heads on daytime TV. Not to mention that MySpace guy who went on a (failed) hunger strike because of Your bad influence. Perhaps You’re taken aback by all the hubbub Your little prank is producing. Hey, me too. I mean, what’s with all the shock and awe, right? Didn’t TIME magazine name You 2006 Person of the Year” for seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own ga

Amend Panchayati Raj act to stop Pepsi: Chandy
2007-04-11 17:10:09
Thiruvananthapuram, April 11 (IANS) Kerala’s Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy Wednesday asked Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan to amend the Kerala Panchayathi Raj Act to prevent cola giant Pepsi Co from beginning operations at its plant in Palakkad district. The Kerala High Court Tuesday had cleared the way for Pepsi to start operations at its plant by setting aside the Puthusery village council’s move to cancel the firm’s license to operate the plant in 2004. The council in Palakkad had alleged that the plant drew excessive groundwater leading to water shortage in the area. Pepsi then approached the high court in the same year. A division bench of acting Chief Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice M.N. Krishnan held that the village council had no right to look into such matters, as the plant was located in an industrial belt. It added that “the courts cannot be blamed for the predicament of the legislature and executive in their wisdom of excluding the ind
