Our new Sequim Home 2007-06-04 22:49:00 Dear old and new friends,Hooray, we finally moved into our upstairs quarters two days ago! Hard to describe how good that feels, even though the house walls are full of little blue stickers where the painter needs to patch up some blemishes and electric sockets need to be aligned. But who cares. We are in after six months of house construction! As said before we enjoy the most beautiful mountain views of the Olympic Mountains and Bell Hill. Whether we sit at our breakfast table in the kitchen or on the couch in the living room or TV-room, we cannot say enough 'Aaah the views'! Hopefully, we will never get tired of enjoying the views. We are wasted from all the moving but could not resist to already install flower boxes are on both balconies., always with the anticipation of taking inside and outside photos soon. Here is a first photo to awaken your interest for more. So stay tuned. More photos coming soon. Greetings to all Sequim friends from the Sequimersp.s.Sorry but we could not ma
Sequim Summer Events in Carrie Blake Park 2007-06-08 18:40:00 Dear Sequim visitors and residents,The City of Sequim just announced their Summer
Fun Program for the stage in Carrie
Blake Park. So, mark your calendars for the summer fun at the James Center for the Performing Arts. The music program will be Tuesday nights from 6 - 8pm, starting July 3 all the way through September 11 with Rock/Oldies, Blues, Jazz, Swing, Beatles Review, 60s and more.In addition, three outdoor movies will be shown this year: 6/26 Grease; 7/31 Happy Feet + 8/28 Fly Away Home. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, family and friends to enjoy the live music and movies. Hey isn't that great that we are just around the corner. We will definitely be there for some of the live-music nights. I guess we leave the movie nights to the young folks and prefer our comfort of home.Last but not least, some important information for berry pickers like ourselves. We picked last year from June to September strawberries, raspberries and blueberries at Graysmarsh Berry Farm. Yummie.
More Summer Events at Carrie Blake Park 2007-06-16 20:38:00 It is soooo amazing what visitors can do when on a Sequim vacation on the Olympic Peninsula. It's not just all the great fun activities one can do here - kayak the Pudget Sound, hike in Olympic National Park, bike or walk Olympic Discovery Trail, go fishing at our rivers and so much more - the fun things to do are right here in the center of Sequim.Today we visited the 38th Annual Driftwood Sculpture Show at Carrie
Blake Park in Sequim. It is organized by the Peninsula Driftwood Artists. The driftwood artists showed their 'art' work and many people came to admire their works during June 14 - 16. We were very impressed what these artists had created with their finds of driftwood and their personal imagination and their skills and patience. We could not resist and took a few photos of works like 'Circular Motion' and other fancy mystic names. Photos will be downloaded soon.Maybe, since we are done now with our Sequim house construction - don't mention landscaping - we will be look Read more:Summer
Sequim Restaurants - where to eat in Sequim? 2007-06-27 22:52:00 Sequim Restauraurants When on your Sequim vacation on the Olympic Peninsula, who wants to cook each evening after lots of hiking or biking or kayaking the ocean?! Not me! We shared with our Sequim Town blog visitors on our recent 7 Cedar Casino post that you can combine entertainment with having some decent food at a good price at the 7 Cedars Casino restaurants. In addition to the all you can eat buffet option, you can also sit at a table at the Totem Bar & Grille and choose from a regular menu. Seems like good food at decent price. We took a menu sample with us, so we know what we can expect next time, when we want to give the Bar restaurant a try. Well, before we continue talking about Sequim restaurants we have to admit that we are not going out a lot. At most holidays, we or our neighbors, do a Pot Luck. Nobody can cook and bake at that variety as a pot luck can. We are looking forward to our 2 pot lucks we will be attending on July4 th, one at lunch in the Ca

Sequim Town Blog About 2007-06-30 13:47:00 What is Sequim Town Blog about? Dear Sequim Town Blog visitors. Welcome to our 'Sequim Town Blog About' page. We decided to tell you a bit more about us and this blog than the short blogger profile glimpse on the side bar. Our blog title and description already told you the basic idea behind this blog: 'Sequim Town Blog tells you all about the town of Sequim and the Olympic Penisula, from Sequim vacation rentals to Sequim activities, events, festivals, golf, hiking, homes for sale, hotels, real estate, resorts, restaurants, retirement places, weather and more, seen through the eyes of two Sequim retirees who moved to Sequim.' Doesn't that sound like a big claim for a blog of two retirees who recently moved to Sequim and 'just' live there?! We totally agree but we had to come up with something to 'feed' the search engines with information about our blog. It will take us a long time to cover all the Sequim Town Blog issues and subjects we mention in our blog des
Sequim weather in June 2007-07-01 13:11:00 Dear Sequim Town Blog visitors,First of all, we are happy to see that more and more people who intend to move to Sequim find us in Google searches. That's great news.As promised, we want to supply you with useful information about Sequim Life aspects how we experience life in Sequim. Here we go again. One of the biggest concern for our final decision to make our retirement town was the Sequim weather
. Coming from warm sunny Hawaii, we were looking for a sunny place in WA state with not too much rain as in Seattle. Believe us we checked each Sequim weather chart about Sequim annual rainfall, monthly precipation and sunny days per year. The research result about Sequim weather was accommodating our expectations. Bellingham was not an option anymore when comparing the annual rainfall. After living in Sequim for nearly 1 1/2 year we learnt that most of the Sequim weather predictions were quite accurate. The fact that each mile you go from Sequim to the East in the direction to Tacoma or to
Pick berries in Sequim 2007-07-08 22:39:00 Dear Sequim visitors,One of our first posts when we started our Sequim town blog reporting casually about our retired life in Sequim, one of the best retirement town in Washington state, was about picking berries in Sequim. We were impressed by the variety of berry farms in Sequim which offered u-pick berries. Ever since the beginning of berry season this June - remember we noticed that strawberries were ripe very early this year due to the nice weather - we are regularly picking fresh berries for our morning cereal and just for eating them by themselves. We woke up to a nice sunny Saturday morning this weekend (some early fog lifted soon). At around 10am I took off for picking strawberries at Graysmarsh Berry and Lavender Farm for u-pick berries. After I had picked enough strawberries, I decided to check on the raspberries and believe it or not, there were already quite a number of ripe and sweet fruits (they need to fall into your hand, otherwise they are not ripe).Well, we were not d
July 4th in Sequim 2007-07-05 12:12:00 Dear Sequim town residents and visitors,Here is a short update on our Independence Day. What a nice celebration of the 4th of July we had! The gorgeous summer weather was enjoyed by everybody to the fullest. First, we got to know new neighbors at our new Sequim house neighborhood of Carrie Blake Park area. The pot luck food was delicious. We definitely made new friends as well. It goes without saying that we will join the next July 4th pot luck party next year.In the afternoon, we went to Carrie Blake Park for listening to the Sequim City Band on the big park stage. There was quite a crowd assembled. We did stay for about half an hour and then left for attending the next pot luck party. Our good friends from our 'old' neighborhood in Sun Meadows had invited us. We caught up on the latest neighborhood and Sequim town development. This town is growing daily. Not all appreciated by residents but this comes with progress. Seeing more and more big businesses settle in Sequim and new townho
Sequim Lavender Festival 2007-07-12 11:10:00 Before we moved to Sequim at the beginning of 2006, we had done our homework and read everything what was available on this small retirement town on the Olympic Peninsula. Most impressive features apart from the amazing beautiful location of Sequim, embedded in Sequim Dungeness Valley between the Paicific Ocean and Olympic Mountains, was the special Sequim weather & the love for festivals. It was then that we heard for the first time about Sequim is the lavender capital of the world and about the Sequim LavenderFestival
!We already talked at our Sequim Town blog about a number of other big festivals, one of the biggest and oldest is the Sequim Irrigation Festival. The Sequim Lavender Festival is much younger but as it is in the middle of summer and people spending some fun vacation on the Olympic Peninsula anyways, it seems to attract many more visitors from other states and even around the world. The 11th Annual Sequim Lavender Festival takes place July 20, 21, & 22, 2007.If you h
Sequim Home for Sale in Sun Meadows 2007-07-15 17:45:00 Well, by now after reading our Sequim Blog About everybody knows that we are not realtors but still like to talk about Sequim real estate and Sequim homes for sale. Sequim is a town of steady transition, more so people moving here from California or Arizona or even Hawaii like us than leaving Sequim. When you once live here, there are chances you move within Sequim or even build another house in Sequim. We never thought we'd sell our home in Sun Meadows
till this chance came along to build a new 2-storey Sequim home with extra 1Bd/1Ba guest apartment for our families and friends. Now, we can rest and relax till whatever other chance comes along. Some time ago, we introduced Bill's and Arlyn's Sequim house for sale to our blog visitors. They are in transition to move into an assisted living home where Arlyn can get the right care when needed. They are still looking for the right buyer of their wonderful home. Our website shows all the details of their Sequim house for sale, with lots o

Sequim Real Estate Summer Analysis 2007 2007-07-22 13:27:00 Dear Sequim Town blog visitors,As we know that a lot of our Sequim blog readers are interested in moving and living in Sequim and therefore like to hear how the real estate market is doing in summer 2007, we asked Jason Lee from Welcome Home Realty on his current thoughts of the Sequim Real Estate
market. Feel free to compare this one with his market analysis in April. Thank you Jason for sharing your realtor knowledge with us!"Hello again to everyone interested in a Sequim lifestyle. This is your midsummer update on our real estate market. Despite all the doom and gloom of the national news media the Sequim realty situation is very stable. Homes sales for the general Sequim area are down about 8% from the year before, which isn't too bad considering the nation as a whole. The surprising fact is that the average and median sold price of a stick built home is up approximately $2500 from last year. This tells me that while the number of sales has tapered off slightly, there is still more Read more:Summer

Beautiful Sequim Vacation 2007-07-27 16:29:00 Well, our long longed for 2007 Sequim Lavender Festival is history. We had a nice crowd of visitors who joined the fun at the street market in Fir St with music, lots of lavender products to buy and great tasty food to eat. Fragrant lavender scent was in the air everywhere! The lavender farm tour buses were running all day long.Sure it would have been nicer with sunshine - Sequim summer weather was beautiful before and after the Lavender Festival. How ironic! Sequim Gazette wrote that Sequim had 5000 visitors less at this year's festival. Whether the reason was the overcast weather or not.Everybody had a great time and guess what we did not have to cope with hot temperatures over the 100 F as so many states had. It was already too much when Sequim temperatures reached a decade high of 94 F on one day at the beginning of July. We even ran our AC with our heat pump. We feel blessed with our moderate Sequim weather. Who wants hot, go to Mexico or just California!I promised a few lavender Read more:Beautiful

Movie in the Dark at Carrie Blake Park 2007-07-29 11:48:00 Oops, nearly missed the annual Sequim Dog Show but luckily we went for an afternoon bike ride through Carrie
Blake Park and noticed all the tents and RVs and of course, all kinds of dogs! What fun, even when your are not a dog owner like us. We watched for quite some time the dog show competitions and were amazed how one judge was able to do all the selection and choose the winning dog. Seemed kind of subjective to us but what do we know. I guess this guy is kind of an expert like the Dog Whisperer!Anyhow, we wanted to include a link to the dog show but were not able to locate one. Instead we found this site to the Carrie Blake Dog Park, which we mentioned in one of our posts about the Park. Sequim Dog Owners, if you don't know yet, this is a great place where your dog can socialize with other dogs, without being on a leash, and you can socialize with other Sequim dog owners. We were busy welcoming our first guests at our Sequim 'Bell Hill View' Vacation Home. Visit Seattle on your Sequim Vacation 2007-08-06 18:06:00 Dear Sequim blog visitors,Ever since we had moved to Sequim, I had heard so much about Olympic Peninsula people going to the Seattle
Pike Market for some Seattle shopping or just having an excursion to the big city. Our recent guests at our Sequim vacation rental were also full of excitement about the Pike street market in Seattle.Well, I guess it was time to see for myself and pay Pike Market in Seattle a visit. Two of our Sun Meadows neighbors were up for the challenge too. Day and time was set fast. We decided to take the Bainsbridge Ferry which docks right downtown Seattle with a short walk to the market. We would just leave the car on our side of the Puget Sound and take it easy.Driving Hwy 101, 104 and Hwy 3 to Bainsbridge was nice, easy traffic and beautiful Washington scenery passing by. Maybe we took a little too much time cruising along. So we actually arrived at Bainsbridge ferry parking a bit late, and none of us had a clue what to do. We parked the car and walked to the fe Read more:Vacation

Sequim Summer Weather News 2007-08-22 23:04:00 We are back! Here is what happened in the meantime. Keoki got his surgery at the Port Angeles Hospital to get his torn meniscus repaired. Things went fine. Surgery was on Thursday last week. Monday he was back at SARC teaching his stretch class. Still has to take it easy at the moment, which is not easy for guys like him. But with the big goal of playing tennis at Sequim High School and go hiking in the Olympic Mountains again, he is more considerate than usual.Everyboduy who visited Sequim this month for a vacation, was wondering what was going on with the summer weather in Sequim. Normally, July and August are the driest and the hottest months in Sequim and even in Seattle. Well, weather patterns and climates change everywhere. Keoki and I can only judge from the one August we had experienced in Sequim last year. No reason to complain then. Maybe sometimes some rain would have been welcomed by plants and residents. This August was having some rain plus temperatures were generally col Read more:Summer

Visit Victoria BC on your Sequim vacation 2007-09-04 14:09:00 Sequim summer weather is going to an end but we are expecting nice Sequim weather this fall for September. That's at least what long time Sequim residents tell us. Let's believe them. Our recent guests at our Sequim vacation rental had a great time on their Sequim vacation. We made new friends with a couple from California who were using our Sequim rental home for their Sequim house search. It was nice to see when they found what they were looking for...a nice Sequim house with water views of John Wayne Marina and Sequim Bay. They are very excited to be back soon and move into their new Sequim home.On their Sequim real estate vacation, they managed taking a day off for a relaxing visit to Victoria BC. They were the same enthusiastic about Victoria as we were. Actually, our friends from Hawaii who live now in NZ, also stayed in Victoria for 3 nights on their way to visit us in Sequim. They liked their visit to Victoria as well. So, we figured it's time to share our trip experience wit
Visit to Hoh Rainforest on Sequim vacation. 2007-09-27 12:38:00 For the first time since moving to Sequim, our children came to visit, one from Hawaii and the other from Alaska. They both flew into Seatac, in Seattle around 10pm and we drove to Sequim in a couple of hours. After a good nights sleep we decided not to waste a lot of time and got on the road to the Hoh Rainforest
. This 85 mile drive takes you through some of the most beautiful areas of the Olympic Peninsula. A few words from Wikipedia on the Hoh Rainforest follow: "The Hoh Rain Forest is one of the few temperate rain forests in the world, and is also the largest. It is located on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington state, USA. Within Olympic National Park, the forest is protected from commercial exploitation. This includes 38 km of low elevation forest (120 to 760 m) along the Hoh River. Between the park boundary and the Pacific Ocean, 48 km of river, nearly all of the forest has been logged within the last century.Annual precipitation ranges from 3.6 to 4.2 m (12 to 14 feet).
