More Range From your New Laptop ( Cantenna ) ??? 2007-04-17 21:32:00 So I've been trying to set up a wireless network for my home / business and have studied a lot on networking, and how to get the best range from my new HP Pavilion Media Center laptop with Windows Vista, and an internal wireless adapter. We used to get free Internet service from the motel next door to us, but the signal has been weak lately. At first, I decided to buy a USB antenna or USB Wireless (long range) adapter. First I purchased a Linksys N - MIMO adapter that boasted long range... Great but not compatible with Vista. Next I purchased a D-Link N rated adapter that was rated Premium. It was compatible with Vista (after I downloaded the driver online). Even though the D-link Service center told me that they do not produce a Vista Compatible antenna. Although the adapter was Vista Compatible, it had little if any improvement on range or signal strength! My next thought is to just buy a "Cantenna" which I have heard works very well! Service So we've been trying to get Qwest Internet service set up now for over 4 weeks!!! Qwest lost our Internet Service order 4 times already and we finally got an order to go through on the 24th of April. (But they were 7 days late on hooking it up). We Chose Qwest Internet Service because they were a little cheaper than Comcast Cable Internet, but after spending over 5 hours on my CELL PHONE, Comcast would have beat Qwest on pricing by almost $200.00Today I finally got a Qwest Technician to come hook up the Internet. (He wasn't able to get the wireless router working though...
