Circle Post: My Band Room Is On Fire…Top 7 Concert Pieces to save! 2007-11-15 18:52:04 The following is a great educational idea from Travis J. Weller… Let’s play!
Here are the rules… you have to respond to Weller’s hypothetical situation by posting a post (or comment here) with the above title and adding your top 7 pieces in the post. Let’s include a link to each other’s site by copying and pasting the below information and adding to it… At the end of the month…I’ll recap (hopefully along with everyonelse that posted) the complete entirety of the lists (we will all know who posted what via the trackbacks we post if we copy and paste the below section) and we’ll have a pretty good list of literature accumulated in a very novel way!
Copy below and paste into your post:____________________________________________________

Save Money On Your Cell Phone 411 Calls, Google And Live Search 411 -No Charge 2007-11-26 02:39:21 These services are just way too cool, work well, and will save you money, so I have to tell you about them! If you are on the road with cell in hand or anywhere that you have phone service, you can dial Google
411 to have it lookup business numbers for you (sorry not residential yet!). Rather than pay your cell companies outragageous 411 charge when looking for a business or certain types of information -try Google 411. Dial 1-800-GOOG-411.
I find stuff like this amazing and ultimately better for all us, maybe it will help make up for the increase in gas prices (save $.99 on a 411 call go 10 miles further down the road with the money you saved)! Microsoft also has a competing product, Search
.htm">Live Search
411, and can be reached by dialing 1-800-CALL-411.
From Google:
Search for businesses by name or category. Can’t stand typing? GOOG-411 will understand your voice and find the business you’re looking for. Search by name ("Giovanni’s pizza") or category ("Pizza").

What Mind-boggling Web 2.0 Application Should I Try Next? 2007-12-03 18:07:41 One of the technology shifts (change of paradigms) I am championing is the emergence into a web 2.0 world from a web 1.0 world (I know some of you techies loathe this concept: web 2.0… sorry, but it really is descriptive and useful). That is, taking information from a single point of view and/or stale state, into an interactive, collaborative, and exciting state.
In the old days… (say … pre-2001), the webmaster was the almighty “gate keeper” of knowledge. They had to post something for people to know about and if it wasn’t posted…we’ll you never knew about it. Now with informational bursting tools like RSS, blogs, wikis, and self-tagged informational items, users of web 2.0 technologies (whether they know they are using them or not) are finding themselves immersed in a matrix of connectivity, usability, and explorability (coining a new word here!). Much of this new matrix is self-directed, self-expandable, community-directed, community Read more:Application
Revisiting Ning, The Free Community Social Network For Anything 2007-11-30 21:56:43 The trend in informational and communication technology is very exciting at this point in time, especially if you’re in the forefront of what’s happening. I signed up for a Ning account over a year ago, but did not do much with it. At the time, I was becoming heavily involved with WordPress. I knew the time would come though, when I revisited Ning as it has so much to offer.
ScreenShot:
Discussing things with future PMEA District 5 president Travis Weller , we began to formulate ideas as to how we could best build an interactive site that would allow the PMEA members a place to discuss and interact with each other in a semi-private setting. After bouncing forth ideas, I suggest that we consider Ning as a possibility. It may just be the “ticket”.
Ning will allow us to create a private community that will provide the opportunity for posting notes, discussing items in forums and provide an arena to share photos, videos and oth Read more:Social
The Coolest Christmas Snowglobe Flash Animation 2007-11-29 20:34:36 I remember seeing this a few years ago and it still is amazingly entertaining to me. It reminds of Little Computer People, a game from 1985 on the Commodore 64. It was originally written as an advertisement for getsomesleep.com (which I believe is now defunct).
SnapShot:
This animation goes on and on with the people getting into fights, the snowman eating the snowman maker, fist fights, ski jumping, and an old man yelling out the windows. If you wait long enough the old man will sleep walk into the glass and when you’ve had enough, you can just grab the globe (with your mouse) and shake it up causing all the people to fly around, screaming, and tumbling. It’s hysterical!
Check it out here and get it for your desktop or sent it to friends:

You’ll need flash to make it work. There are links that allow you to send it to a friend and you can even download it to your computer. Either Read more:Animation

I Am Heading To The Midwest International Band And Orchestra Clinic Tomorrow 2007-12-17 14:39:11 Well, I'm off. I'm off to the see the wonders of the MidwestClinic
. This will be my 12th or 13th trip…I'm not sure.
If you are a band director or orchestra director, in my opinion, this is a MUST do often type of clinic. If you've never been to this clinic (or the Texas Bandmasters Clinic), then I strongly encourage you to attend this in the near future. Attending this clinic, may very well change your outlook on what you do (certainly for the better)!
The Midwest Clinic is always held this time of year and has been in Chicago for as long as I can remember. Ever publisher that is publishing, every instrument maker that is making, every technology provider that is providing, and anyone who is anyone in our field can usually be found out there. The days are full of concerts, information, exchange of information, learning sessions, and more.
Here is a list of the performers schedule of events for 2007:
