Tips for the Leash
& Your Dog
Leash laws are a fact. In any urban community there are leash laws.
Is the Leash Law Good or Bad for Your Dog?
Well, it is, and it isn’t. As a professional trainer I see more and more issues with what is labeled as “Leash Aggression”. There are many reasons it becomes a problem, and each individual dog has their personal set of circumstances that lead there. However, the steps to training your dog to be better dealing with it are the same.
A leash is not in actuality a natural sort of thing for a dog. Dogs purpose of being ‘mans’ best friend’ has someone how gotten a little distorted. Coupled with the fact that as a rule our media has convinced us that there is something to fear in everything, including dogs big or small. As a result, there is something to in fact fear now for people because it has been created. Dogs were meant to run, work, and play and none of Read more:Dog Training
Project What You Want; Your Dog will Follow 2007-04-02 11:19:00 Dogs pick up on what you are feeling before they pick up on anything else. Typically the human race spends most of their time thinking about what they don't want rather than what they do want. It is true of what they want of thier dogs' behavior as well.
Just this morning I sent Katja Schumacher, the German Triathlon pro who live here in San Diego, CA for much of her training season, off with her training partners...my dogs Seven and Carmella. I found myself telling her what to NOT have them do. I caught myself. Focus on what you want them to do. Dogs are literal. Put them into action of what you want them to do, take action and ask them to do something it in the moment. i.e. Heel when seeing another dog or person walking down the trail. I know my dogs know it, but yet going to what I didn't want them to do was the natrual. It's unfortunately how we have trained our human minds, worry about what you don't want them t Read more:Project
Dog Training and Stress 2007-03-30 08:31:00 I was reading an article this morning by a "well educated behaviorist" regarding stress and training your dog. Some of the ideas people project on how to get your dog to act like you want them to is more than appalling to me.The idea that there is stress is training or learning something new is one people need to come to an understanding that it exists and in fact must be present to further any person or dog's knowledge, whether it be how to mind your manners or information you know in your head. Our society has sadly started projecting that there shouldn't be ANY stress on a dog in training at all. If they do it right, give them a cookie. If they sort of try, give them a cookie. If you want their attention, give them a cookie. If they don't do it at all, oh well, give them a cookie. For Dog's Sake, DO NOT require anything out of your dog! It might stress them! The number of dogs ending up in shelters is astounding. One Read more:Training

You Don't Have to Be a Professional Dog Trainer to Have a Really Great Trained Dog 2007-03-27 11:03:00 I find people wishing for a better trained dog but feel they can't get it without being a professional dog trainer themselves. NOT TRUE.All you need is to understand a few Secrets of how a Dog Thinks and Learns and you are on your way to the best companion in life. Your Dog!Dogs learn and think in pictures unlike our overwhelmed logic ridden minds. As humans, I find that people over complicate what they are trying to get their dog to understand, ending in frustration and usually a wild dog that becomes yet another love hate relationship so often created in your already overloaded life.Teaching your dog the correct picture is the most fundamental step in a successful dog training program. Repeat the picture of what you want your dog to do and they will think in absolutes that way. Most repeat the picture of what they don't want their dog to do (that's true for ourselves by the way as well!).Let's use the simple example of "Sit". Every time you ask Read more:Trainer

Is Love Enough for Your Dog’s Best Welfare? 2007-04-10 22:21:00 Often times the very reason we get a dog is for love. A living being that will love us no matter what. Unfortunately in the name of love what ends up happening is not what the intention originally was.Your new dog comes home and over indulgence is a mild description of how your new dog gets treated....all done with the thought by letting the dog do whatever she wants you are giving her love. It's not long and you are spinning your head around wondering what happened to your home and why you are more frustrated then ever...and who IS in charge anyway?Establishing Pack Leadership From the BeginningVery important. No matter how cute your new dog is, establishing yourself as the leader is imperative. How is this done? Well, it's labeled a lot of things in the dog training world, but one of the simplest is NILIF. Nothing In Life Is Free. What does this mean for your dog? Everything your dog does or gets she has to do something for it. U Read more:Enough

7 Tips for Leash Training Your Dog 2007-04-24 05:51:00 The
Beauty of the Leash
Trained Dog
Today I
was out on my regular run with my Dogs and realized the beauty once again of
the leashed trained dog. So many wish
they had a dog that could be off leash, and ultimately I believe everyone
should have that relationship with their dog. Most don't even have a leash
trained dog. In many cases it's due to
the fact that they've skipped the basics of leash training, or got frustrated
with it and now the dog gets limited, very irritating outings due to the fact
that Scout the Dog pulls like a wild man on the leash and your arms just can't
take it.
I've got
two dogs, one I've trained to stay on the left side of me, the other on the
right. I trained them that way because I
knew in the long run it would be easier, considering I wouldn't have to try and
hold two strong dogs on one side; as well as they lost the need to compete with
who was go to have the "shoulder up" on the other dog. I also did it with the fore Read more:Training
If You Want to Know if Spot Loves You So, It's in His Tail 2007-04-30 22:34:00 Every dog lover knows how a pooch expresses its feelings.Ears close to the head, tense posture and tail straight out ro the body means "don't mess with me." Ears perked up, wriggly body and vigorously wagging tail means "I'm so happy to see you!"But there is another, newly discovered, feature of dog body language that may surprise attentive pet owner and experts in canine behavior. When dogs feel fundamentally positive about something or someone, their tails wag to the right side of their rumps. When they have negative feelings, thier tali wagging is biased to the left.Read the rest of the story by clicking here.
Women, Dogs, & Best Friends 2007-05-02 16:46:00 Popular British television personality and dog trainer Barbara Woodhouse was born in Ireland in 1910. Its probably safe to say that she became a dog lover when the canine bug bit her at just two years of age literally. She was bitten on the nose by a mutt purchased from a gypsy when she hugged the dog too tightly. Years later, she rescued a pit bull, smuggled it home on a bus, trained it, and placed it in a good home. She trained animals from that day until her death in 1988. The young Mrs. Woodhouse began as a horse whisperer, learning the Indian trick of breathing into an animals nose to get acquainted the way horses talk to each other. It wasnt until 1980, at the ripe old age of 70, that Barbara caught the worlds eye. On the BBC series, Training Dogs the Woodhouse Way, Barbara Woodhouse held a televised obedience class where she would bark out orders to her human and canine students. The humans often looked frightened, but the dogs seemed the happiest. She rarely referred to the own Read more:Women

Camp or Private Dog Training Lessons
The question about what kind trianing is best for your dog is one many people struggle with, simply because as people, most don't understand how a dog thinks and learns. Therefore choosing the environment in which to teach dog is one that is difficult to answer given the persons experience with dogs, the temperament and type of dog you own.
Emme, the yellow labrador retriever, is pictured here with her Multsiports Dog Triaining Camp () partners out on a trail trek. She's the perfect candidate for a dog boot camp enviroment. This little lab is young and full of energy. She's incredibly cute and because of that holds the ace in her paw to be very stubborn and get away with it!

Dog Training Camp 2007-09-26 17:59:56 Emme the Yellow Lab goes to Dog Training
Camp
What I can tell you about my day today is that I loved it. I love training dogs and Emme is a yellow lab that's absolutely adorable. She's got all the puppy stuff going on.... gets excited, jumps, forgets what she is supposed to be doing, barks at herself in the mirror, and gets very excited when she sees new people or new dogs. She's a very cool dog in my opinion. She does fit into the working dog category I love so much.
Emme has come to Dog Training
Camp () at K9 Coach () and if she could talk, she'd tell you how fun her day today was as well. First thing we went out on the trail with my two dogs. She's doing so awesome... she's a young pup and can go off leash already.
